    it seems like at this point doing a full mod is the best bet for this thing. figuring out how to put a pc/pi using all the existing controls would make this a great bang for your buck. Essentially 100 bucks more than a decked out 1up cab, but with a bigger screen, track ball, spinners, better speakers, bigger cab I think is definitely worth it.

    Well how was the emulation on the games actually on the cabinet? Felt like you focused too much on the arcadenet and BYOG features (especially BYOG), but didn’t even touch on how well the games included on it work, if they sound good, or even if there is locally saved highscores.

    • @RetroRalph
      @RetroRalph  5 лет назад

      I didn’t focus on that because I personally don’t care for the included games. I plan to make future videos but from a high level perspective the included games seem to play well on most of the titles. It has all the normal flashback stuff like save states and things like that. Thanks for watching and the for the feedback.

    I know it costs money, but regardless, is it a good experience? I only ever see myself using this cab as a "modern fighting game" cab when I have company over again (whenever that will be...) and the ability to connect to their server to play games seems great. Is the lag bad?

    Edit: I see on the AtGames site they replaced the Bandai Namco Flashback Blast w/ an Arcade one (what everyone wanted and expected the first time), so I assume based on the product info on Sam's Club site that this does come w/ the new Arcade version which has the arcade roms of those games (not the NES versions). If someone can still confirm this it would be appreciated, thx.
    Original:
    I assume that the Bandai Namco Blast that comes w/ the Sams Club version is the same crappy one that had the NES versions (not the arcade ones)? Guess you can always side load the arcade roms to get around that at least, just would be nice if out of the box those were arcade versions instead. Then again the product page says "Bandai Namco Arcade Blast!" (notice the "Arcade" part), so it reads like it may be what everyone wanted and expected in the first place, the arcade versions not the NES versions.

    Intro deserves 100 thumbs up
    Regarding the system itself, it seems like everything was developed and pushed to market as is due to fear of missing out. It seems like companies no longer spend a lot of time testing they just use consumers as testers and social media as feedback.
    Just seems like they should instead use a select group of creators in RUclips such as yourself to get feedback before it's out in the market to just be ripped to shreds

      I purchased this cabinet last week. I've owned Full size neo-geo cabinets, full sized cabinet from mameroom designs, candy cabinets, arcade1ups and I have to say this cabinet is the most fun I've had out of any of them and ease of use. It's very well designed - latency is almost 0 on a wired connection streaming games from my home pc - including launch box. I can play vintage arcade games, console games, and the latest and greatest from my PC right out of the box on this thing. Less hassle more playing games.

    • @RetroRalph
      @RetroRalph  5 лет назад +2

      I’m not 100% sure because they’re talking about a way to download games from ArcadeNet too, not sure if that will be extra on top of the 19.99 or not. I don’t feel comfortable because it seems
      Like some of these things are in flux. I will ask that question though and see if they have any additional information. I think the “Bring your own ROM” will be the saving grace for the system. If they follow through with that option.

    Overall, it's something I'm considering purchasing but the 350 included games? Looks like about 75% is Atari 2600 games....who the hell wants that? I was pleasantly surprised to see Major Havoc, a pretty obscure trackball game and one of my favorites.
    The consoles probably aren't the best but I like how they have sticks, paddles, and a trackball.

      Tbh it is not bad. For arcade 1up with 2-4 games it is 300. This does have at least 15 to 20 good games for 500. You can stream off your own network for free. So unless you want to use their server you are good to go. You can also use your own games via usb. Not terrible.

    Great review so thanks for that Ralph. All of you Arcade 1UP people obviously have forgotten what a complete mess First Wave of Arcade 1UP was. We all know that the games list isn't that stellar, so I guess you can pay $100 less for an Arcade 1UP for maybe 4 games? People this is a connected game and has so much potential to mode. RR has already thrown in a RetroPie. How much feedback did Arcade 1UP take after their initial response? ZERO. I could go on and on regarding this, but I hope you get the point. Was never a huge fan of Atgames, but this machine shows their commitment to take gaming to the next level combining an Arcade cabinet with the internet and offering all the features that are offered now and I'm sure lots more in the future. As Retro himself says, "Don't be a Negative Nelly", so let's keep giving Atgames our feedback and this machine will improve without you having to buy Wave 2 or Wave 3 to get a screen protector, or a decent joystick, or a monitor that works, etc. IMO Arcade 1UP has just started getting it right with Wave 3. How much do you want to bet that Wave 5 will be internet connected and cost MORE than this machine? For some of us who can't "mod" for one reason or another, this cab is a dream compared to Arcade 1UP. The monitor is bigger, more controls that work, BYOG, BYOR, etc. Retro Ralph, thanks for giving a platform to comment or rant, and I know this machine will in the end win over some of the Arcade 1UP people who are more impressed with all this machine has to offer over dedicated "side art" and 4 games, LOL. Retro on Retro Ralph! Thanks!

    The games list is quite decent, but I don't think people would pay $20 or about £20 a Month for its service, people will mod and hack it in a matter of days, still quite an impressive cabinet for the money.

    I am pretty underwhelmed by the list of games. As you also pointed out, over half of the bundled games are console games, and the majority of those are from the Atari 2600 (e.g., 4-D Tic-Tac-Toe, Basic Math...really?!) Yes, there are a handful of solid classics such as Tempest (although the placement of the spinner and buttons are reversed from the actual cabinet!), but there are also glaring omissions. No Pacman, Ms. Pacman, Frogger, Donkey Kong, Mario Brothers, etc. How can you call this "Legends Ultimate" and not include some of the most iconic arcade games ever created?

    The video brother so what did the update actually do? And obviously you're going to get a lot of people in the comments saying no pass no nope because they are arcade1up enthusiasts and anything other than what they like they pass on it I'm interested in this because I have full size cabinets and the other stuff is just too small for me and now that you can mod this with a pi, this brings the whole thing in Full Circle without having to change the control panel without having to do any of that stuff because it has every possible option with spinners joysticks trackball. You got a lot more out-of-the-box especially without having to mod the control panel or anything else then you do with an arcade1up all the mods that you have to put into those machines and up costing you twice as much as what this machine would cost you. I like my full size cabinets and I have hyperspin and some of them and purest games in my Popeye cabinet or wizard of war. Even with those I can switch out the PCB so thanks for the video buddy great job

      Thanks for watching bud! All the update did that I noticed was put a message in that said “use a key board and mouse” to access the steam service since the virtual keyboard is coming soon. I’m sure it did more than that, but that’s all I noticed. As underwhelmed as I am, I am curious where they will take the software. History would tell you that it will probably be a let down too but sometimes Im a glutton for punishment. Thanks again for watching and always supporting the channel man!

    That charge to play my own games is trash, that is the one thing that is keeping me away from buying it. Sad, that you can't just download them and play them from a drive in the usb. Do it like Playstation does. I mean really, some of us slow people take 5-10 minutes on just figuring out the menu in a game and I'm getting charged to do it, WOW , not happening at all.

    • @RetroRalph

      You can download roms and play them on the cabinet, the pay to play is just for the BYOG service that gives you access to online services such as STEAM. I hope that makes sense, they're actually being really awesome about making the changes the the gaming community is asking for. Please keep an open mind, as they really are working exceptionally hard at making this a great product.

    You left out the fact that the cabinet looks like it was assembled by 5 year olds in Kindergarten. I got mine from Walmart and the top section literally fell apart in my hands. It was held together with wood staples and elmers glue. I suppose I could have tried to rebuild it, but that would have affected my warranty. Three screws which I imagine was supposed to "mount the screen" were on the bottom of the box. I have built three arcade 1up machines and they may not be the best build quality, but compared to this machine they are tanks. Very disappointed. Decided to get a refund. Don't want the replacement to fall apart when my cat jumps on it......

    This is a weird product. It has everything annoying about an arcade unit (size and space it takes up, fixed placement of controls not adjustable to the individual) without the typical benefits (nostalgia/aesthetic value of retro arcade cab and panel art, good games included to use for free).
    I might be biased since I own a lot of arcade sticks and consoles, but this is a tough sell for anyone that already has arcade controls unless they are adamant about just the "standing up at a cab" aspect. Everything else just looks very generic, and paying a monthly fee for some access is an even tougher pill to swallow. Paying to stream Steam games is absurd considering I can just HDMI out to a TV or stream with a Steamlink. The only thing I think that really stands out in a good way is how the unit includes multiple control schemes built in. I hate to bring up Arcade1up, but a major selling point is the aesthetics and ease of use. This Atgames option really doesnt seem any more appealing than getting a recroom style MAME cab

  • @john3672

    well from what i can see another cheap made but pricey arcade with not enough good games.its really bad when arcade 1up or this cabnet people have to mod them with other units to get an arcade.I still believe a good mame cabinet beats all this junk but people want a cadillac and don't want to spend for it so they go cheap made and this is the outcome very sad.I like this channel he great and has is topics.REMEMBER BUY JUNK GET, BUY GOOD GET GREAT always in life point don't be cheap spend the money on good stuff.

    So, 350 games that are largely console ports, a $20 subscription service, and pay by the hour streaming...talk about a hard pass. Maybe in a year from now, on discount, this might be worth a modding project. Just seems like the money is better spent on a dedicated arcade system that doesn't have all these 3rd party services muddying up performance.

  • @timmyburden5701

    I was intrigued by this at first. Then I looked up the games and a lot of those are Atari 2600 games that you could play on a cell phone. Does anyone get excited by 3d tic tac toe? Pong? Blah.
    Not to mention the lackluster arcade side. Pac Man? Ms Pacman? Outrun? Nope. Oh but they did include Pong on the arcade side. Just a lackluster lineup of games. I suppose the big number is going to make a lot of people go wow their must be a ton of great arcade games on this thing. Sadly their isnt that many great arcade games on this system. I would say about 4 good arcade games and the rest is just blah.

    They are never going to let people add their own roms, if that was the case arcade net would be useless. Its nice to say though "were looking into that" to hope people buy anyway. But either way this system is a flop...no one is paying $20 a month for their arcade cabinet and then more money to play games they already own. On the bright side they are making Arcade1up look a hell of a lot better.

    • @benjaminapeterson

      It they don't, no worries, just mod it. If anything it makes Arcade1Up look worse because this thing has better hardware and a better set of games than most of the A1Up cabinets already out of the box. And I say that as an owner of two modded A1Ups. They are going to collect dust now that I have this cab.

    • @ashleylove4406
      @ashleylove4406 5 лет назад

      @@benjaminapeterson hmmm I think your in the minority. I'm not paying $600 for a cabinet to only to mod. Their hardware isn't anything special. Throwing in any $50 optiplex on ebay is more powerful. I guess they only thing they having going for them is the larger screen and cab but that's not worth $599 plus the additional in parts to mod. And for games? This unit has zero games anyone wants to play thus the whole reason everyone is talking trash on it in the comments below. Arcade1up blows this out of the water so far ESPECIALLY if you just want a cab to mod. And trust me when I say there will be updates for their machines to lock people out for what Ralph is doing... that's why their ArcadeNet is in beta mode. They'll see how people are hacking these then patch it so they can finally charge for ArcadeNet. AtGames wants to be a live service company who has continuous cash flow coming in by making people pay $20 a month and more to stream games we already own. Personally I'd much rather pay the deeply discounted Walmart prices for a less popular Arcade1up if I'm looking to mod it - you'll come out way ahead. Entertaining to watch though.
