I actually like the marks. I might be one of the only people out there that is fine with how they are. yes they all have the shields, but inside the shields is another mark that's more personal sweetie the note, scootaloo the wing, and applebloom the apple with a heart. People can have more then one talent technically speaking so having their normal talents shown in show stoppers was maybe just one part of it. they had a talent they wouldn't use but was there but they also had one more talent that needed to be fund before the marks were give aka the assistance. Just my personal views and feelings towards the marks.

Honestly though, I feel like people forget that a large part of who the crusaders are is their friendship. It's obviously something that's shaped them and will last a lifetime. The fact they each represent three things is also pretty awesome. It gives the writer so much scope for future stories. I was worried the CMC would get cutie marks but it would effectively kill their story development by tying the writers hands. This way, nothing has really changed except we no longer have to hear about them going on about finding their cutie marks.
Alex Atkin true, the shields themselves aren't very pleasing to the eye, but as has been mentioned they are the colors of their manes..... Idk. Still kinda meh. Overall design is awesome. And I'm happy they opened their story like that, and it explains why it took so long to get their marks.
Well, technically the cutie marks have their own individual talents in the center. A music note with a star for sweetie belle, a lightning bolt with a wing for scootaloo, and a heart with an apple for Applebloom. It kind of made me feel like they were saying while they'll be haunt other with their special talents-they still have their own unique talents. That's why it wasn't revealed in show stoppers: they only had half of what their destiny was at that point.
Couldn't Discord have fixed the playground for free? Actually, now that I think about it, that wouldn't be such a good idea. Sure, he'd fix the playground, but the swings would probably launch foals into orbit and the floor would probably be covered in chocolate rain

+D HAROLD It was a good episode. My only issue was Tiara's mother being the cause of this and I think it's because I saw a similar thing with Pacifica from Gravity Falls, but that was done better. Tiara's mother came out of nowhere and I personally felt that the episode would've had a bigger impact without her. One bad parent corrupting Tiara? Where was her dad then, because he was a decent guy.

I think I'm only up to 4 times, but I did spend a while editing out the songs from the soundtrack so that's my excuse. :p This is like Magical Mystery Cure was for me, I literally watched it every day for WEEKS. Except this episode, I like the whole thing whereas MMC I really didn't care much for the coronation.
BUT KP! they have DOUBLE cutie marks! the colors and the shield thing are thier CMC help people understand thier cutie mark things, and the inside part (star and note for sweetiebelle, apple and heart for applebloom, and wing and lightningbolt for scootaloo) are thier other talents, like Singing (whatever the heck applebloom's was) and scootering!

When they got their cutie marks I started screaming and crying hysterically on the floor. My sister look at me like calm down psycho! We knew this would happen eventually.
I have to say, I'm a tiny bit dissapointed. Never cared so much for the CMC's, but allways thought: Sweetie Bell = Singing cutie mark (well at least she got a music note) Scootaloo = Stunt action acrobatic cutie mark or something Applebloom = Alchemy (because she is learning from Zecora and stuff) and then at the end is none of that... and even thought Tiara is FINALLY good now, I'm not sure if I can forgive her so far for all the mean bullshit she has done over the past, specially after so many seasons.
The CMCs' marks sum them up perfectly: Apple Bloom's mark has an apple and a heart, Scootaloo's has a wing and a lightning bolt, and Sweetie Belle's has a star and music note.
This has been my fav episode of the season so far; Pip winning was great, the CMC getting their Cutie Marks blew my mind in its unexpectedness, but watching Diamond turn her life around, and her seemingly hostile home environment, made this episode for me. I liked seeing her move beyond what she was and look forward to what happens with her next. And like I said, that home environment... didn't think they'd show something like that on this show honestly. Not to mention the scene with the Apples at the end, looks like we finally got some canon support for why they're not around. The writers had some serious chops this episode.

I think the cutie marks are perfect, because it proves to the audience that cutie marks don't have to change a pony. Also, it gives them a chance to pursue other ventures as they normally would. Applebloom can still make potions, Scootaloo can join the X-Games, whatever.
The way I think of it, those talents are still there, and represented in the Marks. It's just...their greater destiny is to help others figure out their own destiny.
@4:15 Sometimes our talent comes to light after doing it once, but needs a second time for it to sink in. Sometimes... we don't even know we're good at a talent until we try it out, and that could take years to even become aware of such a talent.
The talent thing can be explained. Apple Bloom has an apple because goddamnit, Apples have apples. Scootaloo's lightning bolt symbolizes her love for speed. Sweetie Belle's star symbolizes music. The identical shields show their interdependence. Remember, cutie marks aren't just special talents--they also represent _destiny_. We've also seen other times when a pony got a cutie mark in something the first time they tried something and realized their love for it (Pinkie Pie never did a single party before her mark, for instance). Cutie marks aren't always literal. There can be some metaphor in there, too. Also, goddamn, I don't think there's been another episode as series-shaking since MMC.
Fun thing about Discord. It's because of when everything was damaged by his plunder seeds, and he helped clean up, saying "but I don't do windows", meaning he fixed the school house, but left the window broken.
I can give you an example of when they helped someone with insight into their cutie marks, and it's way back in season 1. While finding out what the mane 6 did to get their cutie marks, the CMC helped the mane 6 realize that they had a connection through their cutie marks all this time.
I like to think their marks still show their talents and heroes.The shield is helping ponies, but thwn things are different. Sweetie Belle's star and note shows how she adores singing and being inspired by her big sister.Scootaloo's lightning bolt and wing shows how she uses her wings for her scooter but also idolizes Rainbow. Apple Bloom's is a heart and apple, showing her love for decorating and her love for her family.

About their cutie marks, they are a trio....each one revolves around this. Each mark is a 3 -in 1. Apple Bloom, has the Apple, which is generational to her family heritage, then the heat in the apple, to signify he love or passion for her friends and for others(something like that). Sweetie Bell, the Star and the Musical note inside of it, to represent her singing ability(obviously). Scootaloo, the Wing and Lighting Bolt in of it, a bit more tricky, could be her "daredevil" traits, but I think it relates to her special situation with her wings, then the lighting bolt has some significance or correlation to her relationship with Rainbow Dash. Finally, the badge part of all of them has the 3 colors of each one of their manes...ties them all together as a team.

crusaders of the lost mark has to be my favorite episode of the entire series I thought they were just going to go the whole show and not get their cutie marks I am so happy that they did!!!:)
I mean they do have matching cutie marks, but inside of the shields they have their own talents, I think they did find out what their talents are, but it wasn't enough for their destenies, so when they heleped Tiara, that was the thing that was missing
to those who have a problem with the cutie marks... you might want to have a closer look at them, for infact the CMC each have 2 marks. there is one with in the cutie mark itself. ex, a musical note for the little singer, a wing with a lightningbolt for best scooter, and an apple with a heart for country girl
THE MARKS EXPLAINED: SCOOTACHICKEN- scootaloo was never able to fly, but she used her wings to accelerate/propel her self on her scooter. her wings were flapping like that of a hummingbird, very extremely fast. which is why her cutie mark is a wing with a lightning bolt inside. TACOBELLE- sweetie is an amazing singer (tho in a comp i could beat her by a land slide... no offense her singing and voice actor are both amazing...) and she... well... ummmm... APPLEJACK JR- apple bloom is a very caring (yet really bitter at times...) pony. she is in the apple family (we're apples to the core!) which is why theres a heart inside an apple on her plot

Can't wait to see what happens with Shining Armor and Cadence, then how the Mane Six ensure these events still happen when Starlight tries to alter the past for her own benefits. And that's the fifth reviewer that hits the list of not noticing the foreshadowing. Episode 4 bloom and gloom one of pinkie's balloon is a heart with an apple. Party pooped. A flag with a music note inside a star. And apple loosa's most wanted the glowing of trouble shoe's cutie mark. We were given a hint to pay close attention to cutie marks at the season premiere!
The cmc's cutie marks have their singing, fast scooter and apple talents in the middle and I think that they would in another episode foe fill their other talents like twilight and cadence did
I don't know, I think this works out great. I mean, Rarity is great at fashion- but that's not what her cutie mark is about. And we've been given other adult ponies who aren't happy with their "destiny", foreshadowing Diamond Tiara's growth. Plus, I'm sure they wanted the reveal of the cutie marks to be a surprise, so an episode focusing on the trio looking for cutie marks would have been a pretty big giveaway.

Yeah I get that the shield designs are meant to symbolize their united journey as the CMC and that they still are the Cutie Mark Crusaders and just now their "Crusade" is helping others with their cutie marks, but then there are the inner symbols that obviously point out their individual talents that we never see them realize. The only thing I can think to account for this is that just like with Trouble Shoes and Diamond Tiara, one can get their cutie mark without fully understanding what it represents. So then maybe we are going to get episodes where their individual talents come more to light as they learn and explore the true meaning behind their cutie marks. Hell, even with just this season we saw that Sweetie Belle does has aspirations of singing and that Scootaloo has that whole x-sports thing going on. Though it seems Applebloom's is a bit more simple and, that like with Applejack and Big Mac, her place in the world is on the orchard and with her family. Dreaming big there Apples, real big.
I mentioned in my own video about this episode that it actually does make sense how the CMC can be so good at certain tasks (scooter, singing, fixing things) but those things not being their cutie marks. AJ and Pinkie are good at baking, but baking isn't either of their special talents.
I feel like I'm the only person who saw this episode and didn't love it. I liked the character development but the cutie marks turned it into a cheap "magical mystery cure"
A lot of people didn't like it. You're not in any way alone. I mean I loved it but I've seen people who've hated it, just like how there was (much more deserved) hate for Magical Mystery Cure. Different people like drastically different episodes from this season, and you're no small exception; Make New Friends But Keep Discord was an instant fan favorite but it's personally one of my least favorite episodes of the entire series, even over Equestria Girls! Every episode has those who love it and those who hate it; outside of Appleoosa's Most Wanted and Princess Spike, every episode can be defended as amazing and attacked as awful. Those arguments are happening for every episode this season. Every single one. I shall be making a video on this phenomenon, under the username gLItcHyGeAR. (I made another video but I'm going to take it down; it's awful.) It's something I think is very interesting to watch play out, and will only increase with time.

It's not necessarily supposed to be what they've done before; a cutie mark is a realization of what you love doing, what you're meant to be, what you're going to work towards, etc, etc, but nowhere is it written that you have to practice it beforehand; it's as much a moment of discovery as it is a moment of realization. Remember Fluttershy's cutie mark story (or the pest pony moments from Bloom and Gloom)? She literally FELL into her talent; she knew nothing about animals beforehand. Despite her song lyrics including "birds" and "bunnies". Plus, Appleoosa's Most Wanted was supposed to be THE setup. I guess you can count Bloom and Gloom too; this is a problem the CMC are established to worry about and want to solve.
+Samuel Mendoza I am sure there are loats of people who don't like their Cutie Marks, but you need to be fair to Hasbro that they had to decide for something. You surely cannot satisfy everypony, but its a cool development and now they are like even more connected to each other than the Mane6 (imo). Sure, they could have stayed without Cutie Marks or they could have received different ones, but like I said, Hasbro had to decide, and I think this decision offers many more storylines. It sure isn't the end of the world they will just help other ponies find their identities.
BeeJay28 good point and I get that but the issue I had with it was that all 3 of them got almost the exact same cutie mark and everything hinting at talents before was basically scrapped for a quick "now they have their cutie marks and have to stay together" sort of thing. Feels like a letdown for such a big milestone, and even more so with how predictable it was
The cmc need a mentor to show them how to effectively help ponies. They did good this episode, but everyone makes mistakes, and it will be really cool.
While I can't explain the handiwork thing (and I'm pretty sure the writers didn't intend this) I can suggest a few reasons why the CMC didn't get the expected talents. For one Show Stoppers as an episode took a lot away from the CMC's 'finding talents' plot in that it made us sure we knew their talents (thus destroying the mystery and making them just look dumb) so it's no surprise the writers wanted to throw a curve ball and surprise us. In universe though Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo both have fantastic reasons for not defining themselves by scootering and singing. A significant part of Scootaloo's character is driven by her inability to fly, it's a cute visual, the first thing she does in a dream and probably the reason she idolizes Rainbow Dash (well one of the reasons). To me her scooter tricks always came across as a way to fill that gap, to be able to experience flying without actually being able to fly... It might just be that I empathise a little too much with stories like this and am reading too much into it but it's easy to see why someone wouldn't want that defining them. Even if scootering was her special talent accepting that you have limitations (even when they give you new opportunities that you wouldn't have focused on before) is a really hard thing to do and (going back to the writers) not a message you can easily explain to kids. Sweetie on the other hand makes her hang up glaringly obvious in Show Stoppers itself, while she's good at singing (and song writing which was the talent my brother was gunning for) she doesn't seem to particularly define herself by it and suffers from stage fright. Without an episode focusing on her getting over this (a la Filly Vanili) I think giving her a singing based cutie mark would have come off as cheating. And again a cutie mark is not just a sign of a specific talent it's designed to be a representation of what makes a character that character (for example Applejack's cutie mark is both a symbol that she's good at farming as well as a reminder of her home and a connection back to her family), with this in mind it seems perfectly natural (to me at least) that the CMC would get a mark more for their dedicated hunt for a mark (a trait we've seen define them in episode after episode) than for talents they demonstrate in a few episodes. I imagine I'm reading too much into a cute design choice but I always felt a cutie mark was more about what a character cared about than what they were good at. On a side note it's a nice touch that their cutie marks have the more predictable symbols inside (maybe as a nod to the fact their exist talents haven't stopped being a part of them just because they've dedicated themselves to helping others).

And the CMC wanted to be friends with me, it just took me until today realize that it actually a good thing to be their friend.
This review helped me better except this episode. You voiced some of my concerns and frustrations, but made me feel that even though this episode was not what I had expected or originally what wanted for the CMC, it's gonna be ok. Good job, KP. Have a cookie on me :)
A bit of Fridge Brilliance: Trouble Shoes isn't the only pony they helped to understand their cutie mark. Remember The Cutie Mark Chronicles? It was thanks to them asking the Mane Six how each of them got their cutie marks that helped them realize the Rainboom Connection.
this episode caused me to like Diamond Tiara..,. i call this a great episode, loved the songs and the character development, and i have to say that i like their cutie marks,that chapter of their story is closed, but now a whole new one has opened, this was an awesome review KP, keep up the great work, Long Live The Cutie Mark Crusaders!!!!
That was quite a clever ending scene. I gotta say, I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw somebody posted an image of their cutie-marks on DeviantArt on the morning this episode had aired. I wasn't sure if that was even real. My mind was blown by that news.

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that it was a musical, just like Magical Mystery Cure? And in that episode, Twilight discovered her true destiny. In this one, the CMC did. Coincidence? I think not!
Not to mention the whole theme of the Cutie Mark Crusaders as a whole has been learning and exemplifying the differences between pride and humility, and this episode point blank showed us the reality of how both always backfire. Just like Ezekiel 37 says that Satan wanted to be raised up higher than God's throne, but ended up lower than a worm, Diamond Tiara was willing to do anything to be class president, even reject her only friend. And it was that revelation of her character that lost her everyone's vote even when promising and threatening coercion and the like. Both really backfired. But that's also what made the episode so beautiful. Jesus is literally God, the name above all names. Yet for our sake became lower than a worm according to Psalm 22 by dying the death we all earned, and as a result proved what it means not only to be God, but literally redefined what love actually looks like. Exactly like the Cutie Mark Crusaders. When they stopped focusing on how to earn their cutie marks and made their focus on helping others find theirs, it backfired and ended up getting them their cutie marks. Man I love God's word being presented in this show.
I remember literally crying when the CMC were shouting up and down "WE AL GOT THE SAME CUTIE MARK! CMC's FOREVER!" Ugh, I had gone through 1235 boxes of Felios
The more I watch this episode, the more I love it. It was perfect. I've seen it many times, and I can't even find a major flaw and anything else is just a nitpick. I actually think Diamond Tiara's mom being a MISGUIDED influence worked well, especially when she walked away after being sent of, it seemed like she took DT's issues into consoderation and might be becoming a better person as a result.

I was worried the CMC would get cutie marks but it would effectively kill their story development by tying the writers hands. This way, nothing has really changed except we no longer have to hear about them going on about finding their cutie marks.

Well, technically the cutie marks have their own individual talents in the center. A music note with a star for sweetie belle, a lightning bolt with a wing for scootaloo, and a heart with an apple for Applebloom. It kind of made me feel like they were saying while they'll be haunt other with their special talents-they still have their own unique talents. That's why it wasn't revealed in show stoppers: they only had half of what their destiny was at that point.

+D HAROLD It was a good episode. My only issue was Tiara's mother being the cause of this and I think it's because I saw a similar thing with Pacifica from Gravity Falls, but that was done better. Tiara's mother came out of nowhere and I personally felt that the episode would've had a bigger impact without her. One bad parent corrupting Tiara? Where was her dad then, because he was a decent guy.

This is like Magical Mystery Cure was for me, I literally watched it every day for WEEKS. Except this episode, I like the whole thing whereas MMC I really didn't care much for the coronation.

When they got their cutie marks I started screaming and crying hysterically on the floor. My sister look at me like calm down psycho! We knew this would happen eventually.
I have to say, I'm a tiny bit dissapointed. Never cared so much for the CMC's, but allways thought:
Sweetie Bell = Singing cutie mark (well at least she got a music note)
Scootaloo = Stunt action acrobatic cutie mark or something
Applebloom = Alchemy (because she is learning from Zecora and stuff)
and then at the end is none of that...
and even thought Tiara is FINALLY good now, I'm not sure if I can forgive her so far for all the mean bullshit she has done over the past, specially after so many seasons.
The CMCs' marks sum them up perfectly: Apple Bloom's mark has an apple and a heart, Scootaloo's has a wing and a lightning bolt, and Sweetie Belle's has a star and music note.

This has been my fav episode of the season so far; Pip winning was great, the CMC getting their Cutie Marks blew my mind in its unexpectedness, but watching Diamond turn her life around, and her seemingly hostile home environment, made this episode for me. I liked seeing her move beyond what she was and look forward to what happens with her next.
And like I said, that home environment... didn't think they'd show something like that on this show honestly. Not to mention the scene with the Apples at the end, looks like we finally got some canon support for why they're not around. The writers had some serious chops this episode.

I think the cutie marks are perfect, because it proves to the audience that cutie marks don't have to change a pony. Also, it gives them a chance to pursue other ventures as they normally would. Applebloom can still make potions, Scootaloo can join the X-Games, whatever.
The way I think of it, those talents are still there, and represented in the Marks. It's just...their greater destiny is to help others figure out their own destiny.

Sometimes our talent comes to light after doing it once, but needs a second time for it to sink in. Sometimes... we don't even know we're good at a talent until we try it out, and that could take years to even become aware of such a talent.

Remember, cutie marks aren't just special talents--they also represent _destiny_. We've also seen other times when a pony got a cutie mark in something the first time they tried something and realized their love for it (Pinkie Pie never did a single party before her mark, for instance).
Cutie marks aren't always literal. There can be some metaphor in there, too.

Fun thing about Discord. It's because of when everything was damaged by his plunder seeds, and he helped clean up, saying "but I don't do windows", meaning he fixed the school house, but left the window broken.
I can give you an example of when they helped someone with insight into their cutie marks, and it's way back in season 1. While finding out what the mane 6 did to get their cutie marks, the CMC helped the mane 6 realize that they had a connection through their cutie marks all this time.

Sweetie Belle's star and note shows how she adores singing and being inspired by her big sister.Scootaloo's lightning bolt and wing shows how she uses her wings for her scooter but also idolizes Rainbow. Apple Bloom's is a heart and apple, showing her love for decorating and her love for her family.

About their cutie marks, they are a trio....each one revolves around this. Each mark is a 3 -in 1. Apple Bloom, has the Apple, which is generational to her family heritage, then the heat in the apple, to signify he love or passion for her friends and for others(something like that). Sweetie Bell, the Star and the Musical note inside of it, to represent her singing ability(obviously). Scootaloo, the Wing and Lighting Bolt in of it, a bit more tricky, could be her "daredevil" traits, but I think it relates to her special situation with her wings, then the lighting bolt has some significance or correlation to her relationship with Rainbow Dash. Finally, the badge part of all of them has the 3 colors of each one of their manes...ties them all together as a team.

THE MARKS EXPLAINED:
SCOOTACHICKEN- scootaloo was never able to fly, but she used her wings to accelerate/propel her self on her scooter. her wings were flapping like that of a hummingbird, very extremely fast. which is why her cutie mark is a wing with a lightning bolt inside.
TACOBELLE- sweetie is an amazing singer (tho in a comp i could beat her by a land slide... no offense her singing and voice actor are both amazing...) and she... well... ummmm...
APPLEJACK JR- apple bloom is a very caring (yet really bitter at times...) pony. she is in the apple family (we're apples to the core!) which is why theres a heart inside an apple on her plot

Episode 4 bloom and gloom one of pinkie's balloon is a heart with an apple. Party pooped. A flag with a music note inside a star. And apple loosa's most wanted the glowing of trouble shoe's cutie mark. We were given a hint to pay close attention to cutie marks at the season premiere!
I think the cutie marks would have made a lot more sense if everyone had not ignored Appleoosa's Most Wanted as a throwaway episode.
I loved the last clip with Apple Bloom waking up like it was a dream! XD

I don't know, I think this works out great. I mean, Rarity is great at fashion- but that's not what her cutie mark is about. And we've been given other adult ponies who aren't happy with their "destiny", foreshadowing Diamond Tiara's growth. Plus, I'm sure they wanted the reveal of the cutie marks to be a surprise, so an episode focusing on the trio looking for cutie marks would have been a pretty big giveaway.
The feels were strong in this episode indeed... I had to rewatch it at least 5 times to make sure it really happened!

In a way they still have the talents, singing, scooting, and apple-ing? It really cool how those also are mixed with the CMC bit ^-^ Best Cutie-Marks.
Yeah I get that the shield designs are meant to symbolize their united journey as the CMC and that they still are the Cutie Mark Crusaders and just now their "Crusade" is helping others with their cutie marks, but then there are the inner symbols that obviously point out their individual talents that we never see them realize. The only thing I can think to account for this is that just like with Trouble Shoes and Diamond Tiara, one can get their cutie mark without fully understanding what it represents. So then maybe we are going to get episodes where their individual talents come more to light as they learn and explore the true meaning behind their cutie marks.
Hell, even with just this season we saw that Sweetie Belle does has aspirations of singing and that Scootaloo has that whole x-sports thing going on. Though it seems Applebloom's is a bit more simple and, that like with Applejack and Big Mac, her place in the world is on the orchard and with her family. Dreaming big there Apples, real big.
I mentioned in my own video about this episode that it actually does make sense how the CMC can be so good at certain tasks (scooter, singing, fixing things) but those things not being their cutie marks. AJ and Pinkie are good at baking, but baking isn't either of their special talents.
I wish this Episode had been a two-parter & that we'd have had hints of Diamond Tiara's inner conflict previous Episodes.
I feel like I'm the only person who saw this episode and didn't love it. I liked the character development but the cutie marks turned it into a cheap "magical mystery cure"
A lot of people didn't like it. You're not in any way alone. I mean I loved it but I've seen people who've hated it, just like how there was (much more deserved) hate for Magical Mystery Cure. Different people like drastically different episodes from this season, and you're no small exception; Make New Friends But Keep Discord was an instant fan favorite but it's personally one of my least favorite episodes of the entire series, even over Equestria Girls! Every episode has those who love it and those who hate it; outside of Appleoosa's Most Wanted and Princess Spike, every episode can be defended as amazing and attacked as awful. Those arguments are happening for every episode this season. Every single one.
I shall be making a video on this phenomenon, under the username gLItcHyGeAR. (I made another video but I'm going to take it down; it's awful.) It's something I think is very interesting to watch play out, and will only increase with time.

It's not necessarily supposed to be what they've done before; a cutie mark is a realization of what you love doing, what you're meant to be, what you're going to work towards, etc, etc, but nowhere is it written that you have to practice it beforehand; it's as much a moment of discovery as it is a moment of realization. Remember Fluttershy's cutie mark story (or the pest pony moments from Bloom and Gloom)? She literally FELL into her talent; she knew nothing about animals beforehand. Despite her song lyrics including "birds" and "bunnies".
Plus, Appleoosa's Most Wanted was supposed to be THE setup. I guess you can count Bloom and Gloom too; this is a problem the CMC are established to worry about and want to solve.
+Samuel Mendoza I am sure there are loats of people who don't like their Cutie Marks, but you need to be fair to Hasbro that they had to decide for something. You surely cannot satisfy everypony, but its a cool development and now they are like even more connected to each other than the Mane6 (imo). Sure, they could have stayed without Cutie Marks or they could have received different ones, but like I said, Hasbro had to decide, and I think this decision offers many more storylines. It sure isn't the end of the world they will just help other ponies find their identities.
BeeJay28 good point and I get that but the issue I had with it was that all 3 of them got almost the exact same cutie mark and everything hinting at talents before was basically scrapped for a quick "now they have their cutie marks and have to stay together" sort of thing. Feels like a letdown for such a big milestone, and even more so with how predictable it was
The cmc need a mentor to show them how to effectively help ponies. They did good this episode, but everyone makes mistakes, and it will be really cool.

While I can't explain the handiwork thing (and I'm pretty sure the writers didn't intend this) I can suggest a few reasons why the CMC didn't get the expected talents. For one Show Stoppers as an episode took a lot away from the CMC's 'finding talents' plot in that it made us sure we knew their talents (thus destroying the mystery and making them just look dumb) so it's no surprise the writers wanted to throw a curve ball and surprise us. In universe though Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo both have fantastic reasons for not defining themselves by scootering and singing.
A significant part of Scootaloo's character is driven by her inability to fly, it's a cute visual, the first thing she does in a dream and probably the reason she idolizes Rainbow Dash (well one of the reasons). To me her scooter tricks always came across as a way to fill that gap, to be able to experience flying without actually being able to fly... It might just be that I empathise a little too much with stories like this and am reading too much into it but it's easy to see why someone wouldn't want that defining them. Even if scootering was her special talent accepting that you have limitations (even when they give you new opportunities that you wouldn't have focused on before) is a really hard thing to do and (going back to the writers) not a message you can easily explain to kids.
Sweetie on the other hand makes her hang up glaringly obvious in Show Stoppers itself, while she's good at singing (and song writing which was the talent my brother was gunning for) she doesn't seem to particularly define herself by it and suffers from stage fright. Without an episode focusing on her getting over this (a la Filly Vanili) I think giving her a singing based cutie mark would have come off as cheating.
And again a cutie mark is not just a sign of a specific talent it's designed to be a representation of what makes a character that character (for example Applejack's cutie mark is both a symbol that she's good at farming as well as a reminder of her home and a connection back to her family), with this in mind it seems perfectly natural (to me at least) that the CMC would get a mark more for their dedicated hunt for a mark (a trait we've seen define them in episode after episode) than for talents they demonstrate in a few episodes. I imagine I'm reading too much into a cute design choice but I always felt a cutie mark was more about what a character cared about than what they were good at.
On a side note it's a nice touch that their cutie marks have the more predictable symbols inside (maybe as a nod to the fact their exist talents haven't stopped being a part of them just because they've dedicated themselves to helping others).

this episode caused me to like Diamond Tiara..,. i call this a great episode, loved the songs and the character development, and i have to say that i like their cutie marks,that chapter of their story is closed, but now a whole new one has opened,

I gotta say, I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw somebody posted an image of their cutie-marks on DeviantArt on the morning this episode had aired. I wasn't sure if that was even real. My mind was blown by that news.

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that it was a musical, just like Magical Mystery Cure? And in that episode, Twilight discovered her true destiny. In this one, the CMC did. Coincidence? I think not!
Not to mention the whole theme of the Cutie Mark Crusaders as a whole has been learning and exemplifying the differences between pride and humility, and this episode point blank showed us the reality of how both always backfire. Just like Ezekiel 37 says that Satan wanted to be raised up higher than God's throne, but ended up lower than a worm, Diamond Tiara was willing to do anything to be class president, even reject her only friend. And it was that revelation of her character that lost her everyone's vote even when promising and threatening coercion and the like. Both really backfired. But that's also what made the episode so beautiful. Jesus is literally God, the name above all names. Yet for our sake became lower than a worm according to Psalm 22 by dying the death we all earned, and as a result proved what it means not only to be God, but literally redefined what love actually looks like. Exactly like the Cutie Mark Crusaders. When they stopped focusing on how to earn their cutie marks and made their focus on helping others find theirs, it backfired and ended up getting them their cutie marks. Man I love God's word being presented in this show.

The more I watch this episode, the more I love it. It was perfect. I've seen it many times, and I can't even find a major flaw and anything else is just a nitpick. I actually think Diamond Tiara's mom being a MISGUIDED influence worked well, especially when she walked away after being sent of, it seemed like she took DT's issues into consoderation and might be becoming a better person as a result.
I know how the window broke! Discord walked into the class and the window wasn't able to hold that amazingness!
