Being young and not aware of the first two FOGHAT albums at this moment in time, seeing them on this episode changed my life from a music standpoint. I thought that "Home In My Hand" was incredible. Just as others have done in their early years, I went to my local record store and found the album it was on (Energized) and purchased it the week after this aired. It is still my favorite FOGHAT album (and they have many great albums). I've been a fan for 50 years and counting...I am 66 years old now (2024) and will always be a FOGHAT fan because of this introduction to their music. Wonderful memories. RIP Lonesome Dave and Rod.
Same here. But it was that beautiful white SG with the gold hardware and then Price's solo on Honey Hush that did it for me. Huge fan of Rod Price's slide playing. Talk about truly underrated. That would be Price.
Yep, I am also 66. I had an older friend when I was 15 who made some mixed tapes for me, since I was just getting familiar with good Rock bands. One of those names was Foghat, and soon after that they had Slow Ride on the radio. Their live album is still my go to album for a sunny summer day 🔥❤️
The sheer amount of talent on this show, week after week, is absolutely astonishing. Positively magic. And NOBODY enjoyed this show more than the guys in Dr. Hook!
The actual name of the "mystery" group billed here as "Uncle Crusty" was the Venice Canaligators. We had been at the previous taping of the show hosted by Dr. Hook when the audience had to be evacuated due to what I recall was a bomb threat, though here it's referred to as a "power failure". The Canaligators were a street band at that time, so the guys fetched their guitars from the van and entertained the crowd as they waited outside the studio. As a result, we were invited to appear on the show, I believe the only unsigned band to ever do so. The players on this were Hook "Uncle Crusty" McGuire (harp), Bob Liepman (mandocello), Butch Mudbone (guitar) and John O'Leary (piano), all now deceased except Bob. I was to take John's place, who had been out-of-town, but he returned to do it.
@@MRYOUNG123451 The Venice Canaligators originated in the late 60s as a street duo with Clyde "Hook" McGuire (AKA "Uncle Crusty") and Butch Mudbone. They eventually added Bob Liepman on mandocello (an 8-string guitar tuned like a mandolin, but an octave lower), often performing on the Venice boardwalk and at the Sweet Pea Cabaret in Venice, which had a piano that Bob's friend John O'Leary would play and where I would sit in with them after having met them around 1972 through Alberto Gianquinto, who was James Cotton's piano player. Around 1974, the group went electric, adding a bass player (Mike Kirchner), myself (Steve F'dor) on piano and John O'Leary moved over to drums. We'd play every Sunday afternoon in Venice on the patio of the Comeback Inn, which had previously been a blues club called Rick's Bar, and the whole community would come out and party with us. We also played at the Starwood and Gazzarri's on the Sunset Strip. John left the group not long thereafter, eventually moving back east and Butch followed suit, eventually making a name for himself in Memphis. Mike moved over to guitar and Hook kept the group going with different players (sometimes without me), often playing at Honky Hoagie's Handy Hangout, where Gregory Hines's band Severance also played and the club "The Venice West" now sits. By 1976, we were regularly playing at the newly-opened Blue Lagune Saloon with Veyler Hildebrand on bass and Tom Mooney on drums. Unfortunately, there was a brawl there one night, after which Hook burned down the clubhouse of the local biker gang, which led to circumstances that caused me to part ways with him. They eventually resumed playing there, but Hook eventually left town after his girlfriend shot him and their only gigs thereafter would be at the Townhouse in Venice when Hook would return to visit. He eventually passed away, as now have Mike, John and Butch.

There has never been another band like..
How high are Dr. Hook and the boys. A: Yes.
They used a contraction in the thumbnail this time. Dr. Hook & the Med'cine Show. They just forgot to put the apostrophe there.
Wished Al Wilson would have preformed his Northern Soul classic The Snake.
46:18 When you "ski the slopes" before coming out on stage. Lol
I think Dr Hook and the Medicine show might be slightly high on drugs .
When you're in love with a beautiful woman.
Sylvia's mother was a beautiful woman.

Sylvia was the beautiful woman. Her mother?
@@Royale_with_Cheeese It's hard.

I love that double entendre
Watch your eyes baby watch your ass!!
Is it me or is Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show hi?
Anyone know who that background singer girl in the middle is with Al Wilson?...looks so familiar
Don't do drugs, kids!
Do the right drugs, kids!
Whoa on the members only episode Sunday night?
Well good evening fellow MS Friday crew!
I admit - even I am unfamiliar with the ouvre of Uncle Crusty!🤷
That was the Venice Canaligators!
1:07 - What's this Dr. Hook song called? I see on the timeline it says Ever Come, but I'm not familiar with that title. Does it have a different title or this just not on their Spotify XD
1. DECENT SHOW STYLISTICS RUSSELL (LEAD) SOUNDED OFF AT TIMES BUT STILL A HUGE FAN OF THE GROUP. THIS GROUP WAS ONE OF FAVE RNB GROUPS IN THE 1970’s. ROCK N ROLL BABY, I WONDER WHAT THE SONG WAS ABOUT OR WAS THE KID A REAL PERSON THAT COULD SING WHEN HE WAS A TODDLER??
2. DR HOOK MY GOD THAT GROUP IS TALENTED BUT ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE AND THE REASON WHY DRUGS ARE NEVER THE WAY TO GO.
3. AL WILSON HAD ONE BIG FAT HIT AND SPLIT NEXTS! SHOW N TELL BIG HIT ON THE SOUL AND POP CHART THAT WAS IT YALL.
4. SOMEONE IS GOING TO HATE ME FOR THE NEXTS COMMENT. DENTAL PLANS WEREN’T AVAILABLE IN THE 1970’s LOOKING AT THE STYLISTIC (THE GROUP ITSELF) MOUTHS - TEETH.
5. DR HOOK WAS BAKED AND PETTER WAS JUST A LITTLE TOO GROOVY ACTING FOR MY TASTES WTF?!!
At 20:01, how come it looks like Donald Fagen and Walter Becker from Steely Dan on piano and bass backing up Al Wilson?
Colin Kaepernick kneeling hard on the keys w/ Uncle Crusty
The riff on Foghat's Hiyo Silver is Train Kept a-Rollin'.
The song is called Honey Hush .
❤️🥰
Peter Yarrow singing about jelly...rhubarb pie anyone?
My grandma & aunt/uncle in Wyoming would grow rhubarb - we kids & cousins would pull it out & eat raw haha! My great aunt made the best 🍓 rhubarb jam I’m craving it now, thanks for the memories ☺️
Dennis is obliterated here.
Love these shows, but I can't believe they let Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show host another episode. Embarrassing.
Al Wilson and his pretty girls!
Is that Chuck Negron on stage singing with Dr. Hook? Guy looks a lot like him…
I thought he looked like him, too, but not him.
No that's not Negron. That's their original keys guy Billy Francis.
No, I’d know Chuck N. anywhere, had the biggest crush on him & saw TDN in concert at age 11. My 1st live performance.
Al Wilson's guitarist is FUNKY. Foghat killed it. Dr. Hook quite annoying.
Dr hook is so freakin bizarre.
Dr Hook only cover of the rolling stone bees song
Peter the Pedo Yarrow. He shouldn’t have been asked to preform after his conviction let alone pardoned. Love all the rest of the performers on this episode.
Dennis locorriere of dr hook is cokes up, BIG TIME! Probably the others too. Just sayin
That's a theme on this show.
Where did my money go? singers?
Butch Mudbone, Hook McGuire, Bobby Liepman, John O'Leary "Venice Canaligators"
uncle crusty? WHATTT? WHO?? Peter Yorrow?
I just posted a comment explaining "Uncle Crusty" (AKA The Venice Canaligators).
