In 1997 my older brother James died from Multiple Myeloma a blood cancer. He wanted to die at home and that’s were he left us. The Funeral Director Ray came to take his body to the funeral home. There was a problem tho, his assistant wasn’t available so Ray, asked if I’d help place Jim, in a body bag. I had him under his arms and placed him in the bag Ray had positioned on the floor. Since I’m thin, I struggled to lift Jim’s upper body. So Ray asked me if I wanted to take Jim’s legs instead. For the life of me, I don’t know why I thought of it, but I said “He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.” When I just heard the song, I began to cry and tears ran from these 80 year old eyes because I immediately thought of my brother James.

I know what you mean, believe me.there were so many things that I loved growing up that I hadn't seen in decades, literally. Here's a silly example. There was a favorite movie that I wanted to record on VHS. ( before DVDs) though it was scheduled to come on however it got preempted.,WTH! ok, I figured the would just reschedule it for the next weekend. To which they didn't. I kept checking the TV guide every week for year after year. Finally, after twenty plus years I saw the commercial for it. I got my VCR already, and finally it came on. I couldn't believe it, after all this time, Finally I Got It!! Just then, The cable went out and the screen turned to snow. I was speechless! I only had a half an hour left to go. Eventually as I got older I found it on DVD. that's just one of many examples. In conclusion, I've always told myself, if I love something, it stays loved. and that goes for anything. if I love it, I will have it again however long it takes.
Aww, bless him. But think of the song -writing catalogue of the Bee Gees. And the way they continued to adapt and innovate through the decades. And those harmonies, my god, those harmonies!@@RockinEd

Another wonderful show. The unique thing about the Midnight Special was that there was something for everyone. Personally I loved the 50s-60s stuff but virtually all the music of these years were great.
He was a very friendly down to earth guy as well. When I met him at a show in Niagara Falls and told him I had been at the original Cavern Club (they stupidly tore it down and built a new fake one) he gave me a huge hug. His voice never faltered either. Always stayed the same. At that time he had a couple of the surviving members of Badfinger as his back up band.
Missed the earlier broadcast but watched it late at night/early morning. It was wonderful, of course. Loved the British reunion, but the BEST were my guys, The Bee Gee's!! ❤ Surprised not to see my girl Janice Trimmell on here, but I'm sure she'll show up! 😊

Adaptability was one of their strong points. It's what allowed them to continue making music, which is the only thing they ever wanted to do with their lives.
The 60's was my teen era. A lot of fun groups. Gerry and the Pacemakers actually beat The Beatles being the first UK group to have their first three singles go to #1. One was a song The Beatles turned down "How do you do what you do to me".
@@Slinkygal Yes, I love seeing Robin healthy and happy at this weight. I am one of those who do not like the falsetto period very much. I love the songs with Barry's strong voice and Robin's unique vibrato.
Anyone notice that they all can actually sing!! They're not lip syncing, there is no autotune and fancy tricks. They don't sound completely different live than on rocoding.
The next episode after this from August 17, 1973, looks good as well. The host was Richard Pryor, and it included appearances from Electric Light Orchestra, Joe Hicks, Doug Kershaw, Albert King, Melissa Manchester, and Joe Walsh.

Seems like Burt Sugarman loved the Bee Gees, but more so when they transitioned to their funk of the mid to late 1970s, including Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' and anything on their Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack.
A young Jeff Hyman probably watched this episode in Forest Hills a few years before he became Joey Ramone and paid tribute to Herman's Hermits in The Ramones' song Judy is a Punk. "Second verse...same as the first.". There you have it...some of the roots of punk rock, right here. 🎸
Around this time (mid 70's) there was a British Invasion tour going around the U.S. The one that came to my town then had Herman's Hermits, Wayne Fontana, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Searchers, Billy J Kramer, and Freddie & The Dreamers. I won tickets to the show on a local radio station but I never went to the show! None of my friends wanted to go to listen to "that old stuff" and I didn't want to go alone, so I never went.
The tour was poorly received. The Searchers did a cover of Neil Young’s “Southern Man” for some unknown reason. Seeing them without the suits and all that hair doesn’t seem right.

Bee Gees wiped the floor with all those Brit Invasion bands, who didn't travel into the 70s very well. The Bee Gees were, and still are, timeless.
I saw Peter Noone two years ago-- eat those words!! LOLLLLLLLLLLLL
Aww, bless him. But think of the song -writing catalogue of the Bee Gees. And the way they continued to adapt and innovate through the decades. And those harmonies, my god, those harmonies!@@RockinEd
@@RockinEdno disrespect, but comparing Peter Noone to the Bee Gees it's like comparing Bobby Sherman to The Beatles
I appreciate all these bands. They paved the way for the 70s.
Robin's voice....... so good...
All 3 Gibb brothers voices are soooo good!
@@kthor 4; don’t forget Andy, so sad he died very young
la voz de Robin suave dulce es la que le da las armonías perfectas a todos los temas de bee gees !!! Cada uno de ellos cumple una función en el grupo los tres son uno solo !!!💋💔💔❤
Finally had a chance to catch up and watch this episode today. Fantastic. So great to see “I can’t see Nobody” in its entirety at last..So Good!! Thank you for preserving these old episodes and continuing to share with all of us 👏🏼👍🏼
They were all great guys, with Mo & Barry more the musicians at this point, than Robin.🎼
This program especially this one episode was blow our minds of 50’s generation and now are 70years old and older internationalwide . Thanks them for those sweet memories . All the bands and artists deserved profound
impacts for an long period of times . Thanks !
Another wonderful show. The unique thing about the Midnight Special was that there was something for everyone. Personally I loved the 50s-60s stuff but virtually all the music of these years were great.
Didn't know that Gerry Marsden was such a good guitarist. What a show! 🎶
Diana, I had a tough few weeks. I couldn't see it this week, but I will definitely watch later when I can focus.
I am enjoying these so much.
Wow! For the first time, I know all these songs! A little early childhood flashback episode! Looking forward to it! 😎🙌🎉
Classic
The Bee Gees were forming into what we know of them today.
Rest in peace, both Robin and Maurice.
Yes, and Andy 😿
Sure wish they'd upload an Andy Gibb song.😔
I'm waiting for every Bee Gees's moments. Thanks The Midnight Special channel.❤
SO AM I LOVE THE BEE GEES ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND MY FRIENDS
Enjoy
Muy lindo el vídeo, no conocía este programa, me encanta ver a Robin Gibb presentando los cantantes, está muy feliz , era muy agradable y excelente vocalista!
My Mom loved that Hollies song, “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother.” Rest well, Mom. Really like these Midnight Special programs.
I love that song too❤. It's one of my favorite songs from the 1960s.
Yes, it’s heartbreakingly sad, reminds me of my 💜 marine son and his brothers-in-arms, combat veterans are very very close, forever…
@@KittyGrizGriz Yes, it’s a nice but heartbreaking sad song. I get very emotional listening to it now that my mom is gone.
@@abclib32 I’m sorry to hear your mom is gone and the song makes you sad, mine is gone too. My oldest brother died unexpectedly 3 months ago, 1st sib of 4 to go~I’m the baby & he was my protector growing up. Robert would put my youngest older brother Richard, “in his place” when he was mean to me. 💥 💥 💥 haha they would “fight like brothers”. Can’t listen now w/o 😪.
@@KittyGrizGriz Thanks so much. I offer my deepest condolences to you as well.
So much unbelievable musical talent on show in these episodes. For me, Robin Gibb's performance on "I Can't See Nobody" (58:46} was the highlight of this one. Keep 'em coming! 👏
Wow, that Beatles segment was awesome!
This was a fantastic show. So many great bands and songs. 👍👍👏❤
I remember staying up to watch this in 4th grade, I still remember the Henry the 8th song
Love “Needles and Pins” by the Searchers, also their hit “Vahevala” originally recorded by Loggins & Messina.
Robin had such a wonderful voice.
Wow! I was at this taping! Watching this, I’m looking for myself in the audience
Lucky you & let us know if you do!👍
@@kthor I’ve watched this a couple times now, I was sitting by the stage where Billy J Kramer and Wayne Fontana played their songs, I must have been just out of the camera shot or I might have been this guy with a blue shirt, but you really couldn’t see his face, wow! Over 50 years ago! Those were the days, I was in college then.
@@allanbluzdude Yep, I see you now!😁
Just tell us about Barry Gibb 😂
@@Melke.2024 I can tell you from the few encounters I had with them, Robin was definitely the most friendly towards their fans
He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother is such a beautiful song and so is the message it sends.
Weird to see the Bee Gees being relegated as an oldies act, when they were just on the verge of being the biggest band of the decade.
Thanks for sharing this it brings back good memories I was. 14 going on 15 in September of that year
Same here .
The Bee Gees are my favorite group ever 😊
I was 13 that year snd every week i couldnt wait to see who they had on the show, pretty cool looking back in time to the great music of that era.
Pra mim o melhor Episódio até hoje ! Obrigado pela postagem !
I better not see any negative comments about The Midnight Special … I will come for you
Don't think there will be any negative comments. They were amazing shows and often put together performers you would never expect! 😁
Ha ha, I'm sure you're still very comfortable in your seat!
It mostly sucked. Too much pop music.
@@nathandodge665 Can you give some examples? Pop music is short for popular music, so it doesn't tell me much.
Outside of Bee Gees Hollies are head and shoulders above the other guests.
this Bee Gees and the 77 Bee Gees like two totally different bands
Adaptability was one of their strong points. It's what allowed them to continue making music, which is the only thing they ever wanted to do with their lives.
ANOTHER GREAT SHOW!
_'Ferry Cross the Mersey'._
*What a great song!*
Wonderful ! Thank you. ❤ 🖐 from Italy.
The 60's was my teen era. A lot of fun groups. Gerry and the Pacemakers actually beat The Beatles being the first UK group to have their first three singles go to #1. One was a song The Beatles turned down "How do you do what you do to me".
I can't wait to see "I Can't See Nobody" in high definition for the first time!
WOW THAT WAS GREAT SEEING AND HEARING THE BROTHERS SING TOGETHER AGAIN I LOVE THIS SONG I Can't See Nobody BARRY I LOVE YOU
Makes me feel alive!
Bee Gees greatest Forever ❤❤❤
What an episode,,,wow
Best Bee Gees , Hollies & Allan Clarke, Beatles, Herman's Hermits
The Bee Gees are excellently funny. They’re great 👍
Loved all these performers as a kid.
Such a group collection
Thanks for share, waiting for next episodes
Glad to see this version of the Hollies. Terry Sylvester did a great job covering (the departed) Allan Clarke's vocal on "Long Cool Woman".
Yes! And Terry is sooo handsome here, ooof 😅. His hair is absolutely gorgeous too…
Our 60s faves hippyfied...and I'm 💯 here for it!!! ✌️❤️✌️🥰
That was a fantastic show! 🙌
Definitely far out, and we can dig it! ♥️✌️🎵
I grew up with these groups, it is so good to see the rest of the British Invasion on this channel!
I came here to watch the extraordinary good looks of Barry Gibb ❤
Never been anyone like Barry Gibb....in every aspect as an entertainer & as a man!🥰
@@kthori think so ❤ with his perfect personality ❤️
Barry is extra 🔥 hot in that peekaboo shirt. I love all the brothers, especially Robin.💙❤️🩷
@@Slinkygal Yes, I love seeing Robin healthy and happy at this weight. I am one of those who do not like the falsetto period very much. I love the songs with Barry's strong voice and Robin's unique vibrato.
@@Melke.2024Loved all decades of their careers.....any voice Barry sang with was stunning & captivating!🥰
A kind of British Invasion episode, nice!
BRILLIANT.
THANK YOU .. 🙏👍
I wish they fix that sound error when the Bee Gees sing “Turn Of The Century”
Ver Johnny Rivers cantando com as bak vocal foi demais ,pois so nos discos eu ouvia
Super: Ferry Cross the Mersey. Original band. Love it.
Weak song…wimpy but of its time
Episode 37 is when The Bee Gees host The Midnight Special.
Anyone notice that they all can actually sing!! They're not lip syncing, there is no autotune and fancy tricks. They don't sound completely different live than on rocoding.
Man the Hollies could play....
Robin's voice rules!
Yes, Barry's does!👍
Herman of Herman’s Hermits was always so sweet acting. He was cute 🥰 too.
The next episode after this from August 17, 1973, looks good as well. The host was Richard Pryor, and it included appearances from Electric Light Orchestra, Joe Hicks, Doug Kershaw, Albert King, Melissa Manchester, and Joe Walsh.
The most awesome episode ever❤❤❤
Its kind of odd seeing all these 60s acts performing in the 70s with fashions to match, gors to show how quickly music was changing back then, they seem very old fashioned in the main. Still great though
The Bee Gees benefit from being related. Family groups that sing really sound extraordinary.
Fantastic!
Songs were made for Robin. He could sing anything passionately.
Robin just knocking it out the park on the Beatles medley!! Actually they all 3 sound Sooo good, but Robin clearly is leading out here!!!😎
The vibrato in his voice really stood out. Something The Beatles...pretty much every group....lacked. It was beautiful in "This Boy" in particular.
@@susieq9801 Yessssss!!!! #OMG😍 Robin just knocks you cold out on 'This Boy'!!! Gorgeous voice, Gorgeous man, just so, Sooo Gorgeous!!!😎...(Okay, let me TRY to STOP myself now!😜)
@@gloriamaryhaywood2217 I finally had a chance to watch this!! The whole show was fantastic, especially the Bee Gees😍I think anyone watching this would have assumed that Robin was the lead singer! What a treat for those of us who love Robin!!!! And yes, he was so gorgeous I can hardly stand it ❤

@@gloriamaryhaywood2217 -When did you guys make your "discovery"? I did in 1967!
So much talent back then. WTH happened to us?
Robib voice incredible
In the 60’s all the girls in America were in love with the Beatles ( especially Paul). Now we’re in love with the Bee Gees ( especially Barry).
Seems like Burt Sugarman loved the Bee Gees, but more so when they transitioned to their funk of the mid to late 1970s, including Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' and anything on their Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack.
28:58 How can we make a creepy song even creepier?
Дякую за неймовірний концерт! 💙💛
And The Ramones also do a fantastic cover of "Needles and Pins"..
The Hollies "Romany" is a great album!!
I am always being side tracked when the program is on and I end up missing it.
@@moorlock2003 I know they played Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens , don't know how well it did in Toronto .I was 14 and wanted to go , but was leaving for Europe with my mom .
Herman sure enjoyed performing...for decades too. A classy episode.
he's still performing.
He didn't look to happy to be singing "Mrs Brown." He did a lot of mugging.
