  • Pagrati is located right behind the Panathenaic stadium (Kallimarmaro) which has hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the first modern Olympics in 1896 and was the venue for 4 of the 9 original games. When visiting Athens, you should not miss out Pagrati which is the equivalent of Greenwich Village of New York in Athens. Pagrati is an eccentric neighbourhood in Athens with narrow streets that are full of small galleries, alternative cafes, vintage clothing stores and of course some of the best restaurants in Athens and lead to small squares full of life.
Pagrati is attracting artists from all over Greece, who come to Athens seeking inspiration from the huge pool of artistic resources and galleries. Poets, novelists, writers, painters, composers, musicians made Pagrati one of the most important artistic hubs of Athens.
One of the most important Greek poets of the 20th century and winner of the Nobel Prize, George Seferis lived in Pagrati. Manos Hatzidakis, who received an Oscar for Best Original Song, also lived in Pagrati.
For Athenians, Pagrati is the place to meet casually with friends for a cocktail on Friday night or for a Sunday brunch and coffee. If you are looking for Athenian neighbourhoods where you can escape from the crowds of tourists and experience the authentic Athens as the locals love, it is certain that you will love Pagrati.
