Speaking of alternate formats, Have you played the format called common charity, Marco? It's basically if yugioh had mtg's pauper format(Basically you can only use cards that were printed as a common). It also solves the problems you were talking about earlier(assuming you use the banlist made by the community). Balanced, cheap to play, and not overly complicated.
It says a lot about the state of Yugioh that the most fun you've had with the game in a long time is... playing a version of the game that hasn't existed in a long time. It may actually be one of the few (card) games where older really was better and not just rose-tinted glasses.
A lot of the "old yugioh was better" crowd talk about the early-mid 2000s days (which were frankly terrible as far as the actual game goes), extrapolating their personal memories of playground/kitchen table Yugioh, assuming the general game was like what they played, and claiming things about the game (old or new) that are clearly false to those with more experience or knowledge. Yugioh has one of the biggest "genwunner" problems I've ever seen, and it's incredibly irritating to see the same tired rhetoric spread online over and over again. There are definitely points in time where you could make this argument (2010 / Edison's picked up popularity in recent years for a reason, and I enjoy it a lot too), but overall Yugioh's evolved into something that's more different and niche than something I'd consider "worse" necessarily, and the game's been very up and down over the years. It's not for everyone, but it's very cool for what it is, and there's nothing else like it on the market. For the early-mid 2000s-only crowd I'd honestly suggest trying out another TCG (like Magic The Gathering). They'd probably get a lot more out of it than sticking to that era of Yugioh (outside of the nostalgia value). Alternatively there's also Speed Duel, the official side format they make their own products for in these cool preconstructed boxes (also featuring nice reprints, as mentioned at 6:10). Wish more people played it.
that's why i only play modern ygo online with homies, no need to go for tournament since u can do it online. these formats exist so no one is left behind
I loved getting cards and trying to one-up both my brothers in 3-way duels. I got into Master Duel a few weeks back and set up a Blue-Eyes deck that while it's basic to basically every pro, a good hand can get me 2 to 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons on my first turn.
even though i think you can literally circumvent most of your problems with yugioh with the exception it being overcomplicated, that being a key element that even after circumventing all of the other problems is a dealbreaker i am glad you've found the way that you like to play the game and is widely supported by the community obligatory "you never quit yugioh"
First macro vid I saw was why I quit yugioh and caused me to quit too but I personally love the way how modern yugioh has like an answer for everything or a counter so to speak so that there’s always a bit of excitement when you break those boards but that’s just me tho and I personally love Edison format but the ever changing normal format is my go-tp
Speaking about Hanzo, I think this is the right time for you to try Master Duel. On January 16th there will be an event called "Theme Chronicle". In short, this event bans 99.9999999% of bullshit OP cards like handtraps or annoying boss monsters, and most decks in this event are very fair. I think Ninja is playable in this event because you can get this deck without gambling, just open the game, and buy the Ninja Structure deck. You will get enough gems for it as a new player.
honestly master duel's regular banlist just sucks maxx c is not a card that should exist ill argue that modern yugioh isnt as bad as a lot of people think all day but master duel's banlist(along with the bullcrap that was full power kashtira) are the two things ill just say "yeah that was/is stupid"

I like you've discovered Time Wizard but after a year or so you'll realize it's not very diverse or balanced. Top decks after a year of being popularized has moved to; Blackwing, Vayu, Frog, Hero on top of mega sacky cards like Royal Oppression, Brain Control, Cold Wave, Future Fusion, Icarus Attack among other are All too strong and super sacky. All other decks are less good. Sure you can win with other strategies but most of the time it's because you've top decked one ofs or made CAIUS. Modern yugioh you can do the same and still top with rogue or tier 2 strategies
Man I loved that era from like 2007-2009 of yugioh. I was in middle school and my friends and I would ride our bikes to our locals spot every Sunday. This is about the time that Synchro Cards were first introduced. Outside of the old guy running the locals openly not wanting us there cuz we only went to play for free and trade cards with ppl not spend money cuz we had none 😂. Fun times. No clue about OP decks or a yugioh meta. We just had decks built up over time from cards our parents bought us and we were winning against a lot of adults who had more resources than us to deck build. I loved my Horus Lockdown Deck I spent years building as a kid. I wish master duel added different formats to the game. I recently game back to yugioh over a year ago. Game is crazy now. Cool and lame af at the same time with the 2 turn or 3 turn duels being the norm. Built myself a Branded Bystial deck cuz duh dragons are the dopest cards but I miss old yugioh but can’t commit to playing it irl anymore sadly. Great video man!
Time Wizard formats are pretty cool because for the longest time they're assumed solved but since no new banlists or sets and people looking to get a competitive edge, metas have changed. Look at the actual tournament results fron SJC Edison and the meta now.

@Marco: What you showed was resolve incorrectly but still end-up that same end result in Edison format. Saying it is priority is a mistake, because it is not only you can activated ignition monster effect when they successfully special summoned themself, you can also activated when you set a spell or trap card, in response to that, as long as it was within you main phase 1, or main phase 2, it was not because ignition got priority, because it was the way it work back then, and it look like ignition effect got priority because the turn player got priority not the ignition effect itself that got priority. they did that, that way back then since they wanted to make ignition effect diffrent than spell speed 1 spell card, since when you activated a spell that is spell speed 1, does card can't activated in response to your own succefully summoned monster, and neither responde to setting a spell or trap card. Also back then their was the weird rulling only for TCG, if a spell speed 2 card got a trigger effect that trigger effect is also spell speed 2, this is also why the card Ultimated offering behave really weird, it take the rulling of ignition effect, but the ignition effect is spell speed 2, and ignition effect can never be spell speed 2 it can only be spell speed 1. This is why in modern yugioh if ultimated offering comes out of the banned list or you play in unlimtited format or traditonal format, it as already been change to a quick effect.
5:50 I mean yes but also kinda no, if someone finds some bs interaction it could theoretically mean that if you're not playing "krungus turbo" you're simply losing but it is true that saying you have to worry about this hypothetical deck is like saying you have to worry about getting ran over upon exit from your house while in modern yugioh it's simply an inevitability also at that point edison events would probably just community ban krungus turbo if it made the format unplayable
Once pendulum summons became a thing, that's what everyone online wanted to play. I didn't watch anything after zexal so those mechanics didn't appear to me and if you don't use the newer mechanics you are definitely at a huge disadvantage. It got so bad I stopped playing. Synchros where the last new mechanic I actually liked and so with so many new rules and monsters to keep up with I got overwhelmed. Obviously the other formats still exist but most people want to use the new mechanics so it's hard to find people to play with. The game at this point feels like a huuuuge investment of time and I just don't have that kind of time at this point.
Magic has a similar but different format where instead of cards from the past being used it's cards that are more recent. It's called pioneer and since cards of old MTG are so busted this is like Edison but for magic. Cool video! I'm giving it a try.

I found your channel from Zuczid! Really love the other content you've been making!
6:01 Don’t worry, we, the modern players, are clamouring for Trident Dragion reprints too…
It says a lot about the state of Yugioh that the most fun you've had with the game in a long time is... playing a version of the game that hasn't existed in a long time. It may actually be one of the few (card) games where older really was better and not just rose-tinted glasses.
only for some though a large amount of people including myself enjoy the complexity and speed of the modern game more than older formats
Time Wizard formats brought back my love for Yugioh
that's why i only play modern ygo online with homies, no need to go for tournament since u can do it online. these formats exist so no one is left behind
im still mad konami didn't make retro formats play by the current rules (exept for erattas)
yes i hate priority it doesn't make sense to me
Didn't even know what edison format was till now. Might switch to that from speed duels, but they did hit Cyber Dragons sooooooo maybe not
Holy crap I never thought I'd see the day that macro talks about playing yu-gi-oh
I recently got support for my decks so I came back For the fun of it and new deck I like and if rush duel comes out that s going to be fun
@TheMacroShow, where are you covering Rush Duel?
Hey the next team ycs in February is a time wizard format so they’ll be playing Edison decks I believe. You should definitely check it out!
Macro thank you soooo much for bringing love to the Edison community we need more people to help it grow!!
Yeah I support this thought. Get the out of the Format for good players
Love to see Edison get some love these days
LESSGOOOO IM SO EXCITED MACRO YYUGIUOH VIDEO
I feel you on this Macro, I recently sold my sinful spoil fire king deck for $750 so I can play something I like and not something meta
even though i think you can literally circumvent most of your problems with yugioh with the exception it being overcomplicated, that being a key element that even after circumventing all of the other problems is a dealbreaker i am glad you've found the way that you like to play the game and is widely supported by the community
obligatory "you never quit yugioh"
You will get enough gems for it as a new player.
honestly master duel's regular banlist just sucks
maxx c is not a card that should exist
ill argue that modern yugioh isnt as bad as a lot of people think all day
but master duel's banlist(along with the bullcrap that was full power kashtira) are the two things ill just say "yeah that was/is stupid"
@@JustANewHunter Kashtira wasn't at full power.
@@randomdeliveryguy you saying it wasnt at full power when Arise-Heart was at 3 and Diabolosis was legal? sure bud
@@JustANewHunter Oh, You almost galit me. I found it weird that I didn't remember arise with diab at the same time and I checked it, they banned that as soon as arise released. So you are still incorrect.
@@randomdeliveryguy seems i gaslit myself instead then cause i clearly remember them both being legal together
actually
hold up
what format we talking about?
Welcome back Macro!
Thank god here at the OCG, we don’t have to deal with prices like these 5:33 .
This shit was my childhood, and still is.
Great video😁
Love that they called it that!
XD
Only problem is that alot of locals don't host Edison tournaments. I wish more did especially with the current format that yugioh is going through
Used to play Yugioh as a kid against my cousins. We all fell out of the game and im just collecting cards i like. They dont have to be expensive i just have to like em.
What a good combo, my favorite gam and macro
YESSSS EDISON FORMAT ROCKS
One of us! One of us!
I play master duel like a chump and run Runick and Vanity Fiend to lock out special summons. And if they go first I run a few Kaiju’s or Lava Golems.
Bro just admitted that he plays Runick Stun 💀
So in other words you lack skill and are a cheese player, noted.
OH?
[pulls Skull Servant]
Hello again...
Did the card text change for cards like judgement dragon?!! It doesn’t make sense to me at all that you can have priority for ignition effects lol
Yu-Gi-Oh is so much better than pokemon imo
I mean in terms of card game it's very much up to personal preference
@@lordgrub12345he is right ygo is better
pokemon is more fun (at least early on "im playing the gbc game currently)
and i say that as a ygo oriented person
I play a T.G. And floral knight deck that is built towards the tengu plant format with some pack filler cards from recent years
Hi I love your videos, would you ever try magic the gathering? I use to play yugioh but didn’t like how the game evolved :( but I played magic and found a new card game that made me feel exited to learn!
Edison sounds great
Edison format is so good, I love it so many decks and affordable prices is something great
Welcome back and yes I agree I love that format
I know Hawks nest gaming in GA has a night dedicated to Edison format.
I first heard of Edison thanks to Magical Hats
Now I get to really understand!
XD
i only have old Yugi cards from 2013 ..i think...i dont think i can play w the new ones, im just too old i guess, but im willing to play the old on again...some day
8:04 Try Pendulum Gemini!
i liked and subed for this reson
Never heard of this format before but i will give it a shot, because thats the format for a boomer like me
@Marco: What you showed was resolve incorrectly but still end-up that same end result in Edison format.
5:50 I mean yes but also kinda no, if someone finds some bs interaction it could theoretically mean that if you're not playing "krungus turbo" you're simply losing but it is true that saying you have to worry about this hypothetical deck is like saying you have to worry about getting ran over upon exit from your house while in modern yugioh it's simply an inevitability
also at that point edison events would probably just community ban krungus turbo if it made the format unplayable
As a Yu-Gi-Oh player myself i gotta say , yugioh is fun when you play not competitively
Really? I find playing a top tier deck against another top tier deck is hella fun. Labrynth vs Unchained is peak
@@megaspacewaffles if i hear labyrinth one more time i am gonna commit arson against multiple countries , ok? I d rather play Prank kid heroes
@@pepperoni5332 pretty uncalled for.
Playing competitive decks vs competitive decks is a lot of fun.
Hey Macro, I know you said you don’t like modern Yu-Gi-Oh overall but is there anything you do like about current Yu-Gi-Oh.
How dare you make me wait 5 years for a sequel to the old video :(
Hey Marco, have you heard of Speed Duels? Dunno if you played Duel Links before it's basically that but irl.
Extremely unexpected video, but cool.
Magic has a similar but different format where instead of cards from the past being used it's cards that are more recent. It's called pioneer and since cards of old MTG are so busted this is like Edison but for magic. Cool video! I'm giving it a try.
Magic players are a joke. If you are topped regionals and locals you will find yourself looking down on players from other card games except flesh and blood these Players are really hardcore when they play card games
@@koro9553 interesting take...
I love edison format but i love this curent modern format. Its literaly edison 2.0 with 14 difrent decks toping on ivents, but yea edison i goated.
He’s getting back into brooooo. He’s cooked 😭
Love hat format it's wirad to see Yu-Gi-Oh on your Chanel
YOOOOOOOOOOOO WELCOME BACK TO YUGIOH MACROOOO
Before I even watch this fully I’m gonna guess you’re an Edison guy. You said you played competitively so I assume it’s not gonna be Goat. There’s no other major option so yeah lol
