Honestly, I've always found it so weird that Metal Sonic isn't playable in more games. The only main series games to my knowledge to have him playable are Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, and Sonic 4. Which is a real shame because Metal Sonic is a fan favorite as well as being one of the few characters you can get away with just having him play exactly like Sonic. Hopefully he'll make a main game appearance in the future, maybe even his own spinoff or something. Only time will tell

I think the best mod (hack) about Metal Sonic is Metal Sonic reboot the music in it is great, the pixel art is perfect, the gameplay for metal not bad, the bosses are quite difficult, I don't remember another hack about Sonic in which I enjoyed destroying Eggman's robots

So, I saw Lucas Rea's comment, then I remembered a theory, that theory says that Sonic on Sonic Cd lost consciousness after a battle against Dr. Robotnik, then Dr. Robotnik robotized him and then he became Metal Sonic, then Dr. Robotinik sent him to the past to help Dr. Robotnik from the past, is I'm the real sonic that Metal Sonic spoke in Sonic heroes confirms that?
