I've never been into comments on social networks, but I decided to write a few words. Thank you, Rider Resilience, for creating such a powerful (life) reminder for all of us riders (new or old). This 20 minutes, besides tears, brought back that feeling of wonder that I started to lose because I forgot that any bike ride is a good bike ride. All of YOU who created this beautiful motion picture have my sincere gratitude and respect! Peace and wheelies✌️
I have battled depression and alcoholism for years,i just used to ride locally on my e mtb, then two years ago,i went to wales on my own, discovered my mojo for riding again, and more importantly, met some great people,i now travel to wales every 6 weeks,to see friends, and more importantly to ride,i have done so many new trails, rode with mountain bike clubs, and just absolutely adore it to the point that i want to move there permanently, for me,riding my bike has helped my mental heath, the fight within me to beat alcohol is strong, and iam winning it,so thank you for this film, and to the new friends i have made that are helping me,without even knowing it ❤ and watching this film is going to help me,i know it,so thank you sam,Rachel and importantly nils, RIP SIR ❤️
@@vladoklepac3577thanks man! Ive had a couple of “blips” but fought it off and won, this is the biggest challenge of my life,im determined to stay clean!
Proud to be a small part in helping spread the Rider Resilience name and help publicise the film. We all need a reminder how taking a ride on our bike can be a help in so many ways. Thankyou everyone at Rider Resilience, Sam, Rachel and to Nils' family. Thankyou to Martyn Ashton for supporting the message. Please share this film. 🙏
I was moved by this short film. I am currently going through a difficult period in my life; depression and I have just learned that I am bipolar type 2. And ADHD. I often had dark thoughts and no longer had any desires. But without really knowing why, I managed to go cycling, sometimes for 15 minutes or sometimes for 2 hours. Now I know that am not alone! Thank you.
Adaptive Riders Collective was, I believe, the first recipient of grant funds from Riders Resilience in 2022 and that money helped us purchase two off-road adaptive cycles that help people with disabilities get out into nature in Scotland and allows them to ride with friends, family and become totally immersed and included in the MTB world. Nil’s vision for bikes helping people experience the freedom, joy and healing power of getting out cycling is brought to life every time the cranks on those handcycles turn. Thank you Nils for all that you did and how you paved the way for so many others to get to enjoy the same things you did.
That hit me like a bus. Lost my father like this 5 years ago. One day the man is there and in 10 months he is eaten up by cancer. Gut wrenching experience. Right after that my Godmother went th same way but in 4 months. I was struggling. My family and ride buddies really helped a lot.
I can't say how happy I was to stumble across this video. This speaks volumes to many of us who have turned to cycling as not just a sport, but a grounding mechanism to battle the challenges life throws our way, myself included. I have always found that no matter how difficult things become, getting out and turning the pedals always seems to bring some clarity, even if for a moment, or until the next ride. Thank you Rider Resilience for this touching video. RIP Nils.
Reading everyone's comments and personal stories is so amazing. So heart warming to see that Nils was 100% on the right track with Rider Resilience and it's mission, and the film has found the right people 🙌❤️🚲
Beautiful, honest, real people facing real hard things and how biking in nature with fellow people helps. I recently had a health scare and this event had an impact on me. Been struggling to put myself back out there on the bike and opening myself up to meet people. My health is good and I’m going to slowly get myself out there again. Thanks for reminding me it’s worth it!
Cycling changed my life too. This year I did: 1. Just under 4000kms rode. 2. Completed a 342km tour and helped to build 100 bikes for kids. 3. Completed a race this year 5 minutes faster than my previous. 4. Met more friends than I've done in the last 5 years. 5. The mindset cycling gave me allowed me to get a promotion at work. 6. Beat my best distance in a day by 16km to 128kms.
I suffered acute clinical depression and still am but once I got on my first bike ride 20years ago I felt much much better to manage my condition.I am at peace now because of cycling .This video I can identify with any day thanks
bike have kept me going through my darkest times. one of my favorite things is doing bike events and just having a shared experiance with someone and just having random conversations with other people on bikes
I am almost at the lowest point of my anxiety and depression condition, and this short video is truly inspiring, hopefully tomorrow can be the begining of something that has been left behind for quite a while for me. Thank you so much for this beautiful short story telling!
As a Belgian, bikes our very important in our lives, I feel very sad for Nils that he past away but what a strong short film with a huge and clear message ! Thank you rider resilience keep up the good work and keep riding bikes good for health and mind ! Greatings from flanders.
I've been biking locally for a yr now after not getting on a bike for 15yrs. It helps depression after losing my close sister to alcoholism and losing my nephew suddenly and losing my mom. Lost two dogs in that time had to major surgeries and now my daughter moved away. Not too far away but biking helps me feel connected to something. 😊
I'm about to head out on an early, cold ride before work ... as I have done many times before. I absolutely enjoy & need such rides, even though they can be type 2 fun... This film was so good on many levels and is reverberating through my thoughts a lot at the moment. It reminded me of my own story on the mental positives of riding - a year ago my daughter was diagnosed with severe anorexia and we we told to expect a long stay in hospital, with her being drip fed to keep alive 😞 It's no exaggeration to say that riding saved my mental self from some very dark times. We're all in a much better situation now...thanks to so many people ! Besides riding, our watchword is resilience...its not just being strong, its about enduring and coming through. We have all learnt so much. Thanks RR, bikes and all riders...you helped in so many ways 🙏🚴
i love this content. What a great story from these 3 people. RIP Nix, thank you for showing us your lives. been riding bikes since I got my first one at 2 years old. The freedom it gives you is unmatched. was in London in 2018-2019 doing my masters in law and I bought a second hand btwin double sus mtb and it was my escape when pressured from studies and the stress of london. someone stole it when I went to the library at Russel Square and I was depressed. I did the London to Brighton race for the British Heart Foundation a few months later on a friends road bike and that was a breath of fresh air. These stories are powerful and I feel that many people who are depressed can be relieved if they could ride a bike. Thank you so much
It makes you all the more motivated when things are going right to NOT take life and our chances to mountain bike for granted! Ride more live more. Get well my fellow mountain bikers!
Great channel. I completely ruptured my patellar tendon playing with my kids (so the wife wasn’t mad - good Dad stuff). So my Doc had to put the tendon back together. He was a cool Doc, and told me to start riding a single speed MTB in 2013 for physical therapy. I still ride single speed to relieve the pain. But my bicycling has saved this veterans life from anxiety and depression too. I even learned to build my own bikes. Just life changing.
I'm another one who either changed their life through cycling or cycling changed my life. Twenty-five years ago, my life fell apart through drinking, and a part of that was losing my driver's licence. I bought a bike for transport, but something strange happened. Every time I rode the bike, I would finish the ride feeling euphoric. Tired, but euphoric. Twenty five years later I have a drivers licence back but I still keep riding because it makes me feel good and helps me deal with my problems. BTW: I don't need to drink any more.
Awesome video! Bicycles have literally saved my life, when I was going through the darkest times in my life riding always helped me to find joy again 💯♥️🚲
What a movie! These stories are heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time especially for anyone having hard times in their lives. Avoid counting days at all costs but just live each day to the fullest. Riding bike is the best way to do it!
What a perfectly crafted film. Thanks guys. Thanks to Nils, Sam and Rach for sharing their stories so candidly, and thanks to the creative team for putting it together so beautifully. If ever anyone needs persuading that riding a bike will help them through hardship, this is the film they'll need to watch. ❤
Such a moving and inspirational film, amazing, great that al involved made this a reality to remind us all how much bikes can do for us. RIP Nils, may his family remember all the good times they had together and keep him forever this way. My story isn't anything like these, but I do remember when, like Sam I replaced Friday night partying with Saturday miles and smiles, best thing I ever did, changed my life. It's been a bit rough for me and all of us the last few years and after 20 years pedalling on a small island the same trails can get "boring" but this has reminded me to try and get out there, no matter how I feel, because once you start to turn the cranks, all those negative feelings usually fade away.
I remember hearing Nils on the downtime podcast, the way he turned a negative into a positive and spread the word of Rider Resilience is incredible. Well done to all involved with this work, all three stories got to me. Loved to see Martyn Ashton involved too, all round ❤❤❤
Such a wonderful, moving and inspirational story! I have immense gratitude for the simple pleasure of biking, it has given so much to me and I’m committed sharing that message with as many people as possible in the hope it will give them the peace and clarity it has given me! ❤
Excellent movie with a powerful message. As a rider I can relate strongly to what's been said. The most calm and present I've been is when I'm in company with my bike riding in nature, away from all the noise.
Thanks all for sharing, nils story really hits home lost my younger brother to cancer, we made sure to get out on those bikes till the very end its hard trying to get back out and enjoy the ride without him but its by far the best thing i can do to feel that connection to him 👊
Beautiful, so well put together and thank you for doing it. I didn't realise, even after 30 years of riding just how much bikes were to me until it got ill, those rides solo and with mates made all the difference and helped me see the brighter and better side of things. I hope others realise that you are not alone, others are there for you and maybe feeling the same way and going for a pedal may just help you see that. RIP Nils and thank you for this.
Spectacular and very inspiring video, the truth is that the sensations that riding a bicycle gives you cannot be explained in words... I am very sorry for the loss of such a young boy with such a desire to live and the family he leaves behind R.I.P. Spectacular images and video. A 10 out of 10 for this film...
Wonderful filming of 3 really amazing folks dealing with life struggles and challenges, making some really good choices over what life has dealt them, whilst also giving us some insight and inspiration, not only that, but really reeling us in from the very beginning of this incredible film- well done, love you guys! 🚴🏼♂️☮️🙏
It is so interesting to read the responses to this film, many of us go through periods of uncertainty, riding and nature are tools to get through and survive
Brilliant, Inspirational what a fantastic film. Whilst my problems are small in comparison I do feel that sense of freedom and joy, a resetting of the mind when after a ride. I love it from the first pedal turn to washing and cleaning the bike after knowing I'll be out again soon.
I felt really depressed when I read the "DEDICATED TO" line at the end. I immediately looked at the names at the beginning of the film but I didn't find who's Nils. Google showed Nil's face and I was shocked to see it was really him--the one speaking and riding in the film. Thank you for RR for sharing this. It means so much...
Absolutely unreal video , very moving stories and brilliantly told on how the bike is so good for your mind and body , I can honestly say mountain biking has saved my life ! Well done to everyone involved in this , RIP nills ❤️
Absolutely brilliant! So well filmed. Nils, what a legend you were; your legacy lives on through RR. You have created something very special indeed and thank you for inspiring me. Brett
I hope the best to anyone fighting illness..I depend on my bikes to bring me calm, peace and happiness and it never has disappointed me! I just turned 3yrs a/f , and I replaced drinking for cycling/fitness and never looked back..great video
Everything is so true- bikes are amazing, they can give us strength in the hardest of times. Thank you, an amazing film, inspirational people showing such strength for us all. Julia
If i wasn't watching this while on a cross trainer in the gym, i think I would be shredding a tear. A very movimg production. Make the most of what you have.
Really good video - fantastic decision to get Martyn Ashton to do the narration really did a great job. Bikes keep me going through life too, there's no better feeling than hitting big jumps and floating through the air, all I think about when riding my bike is just riding my bike
THANK YOU! Thanks creating such an inspirational, powerful and incredible piece of art! thanks for sending such an important message out there for people to have a good glimpse of what it feels and the impact of being out there doing things.
Bikes, drugs, alcohol, cancer, and working in recruitment. Bloody hell, I appear to be an amalgam of the two guys in this video...! And I can 100% confirm that pedalling helps massively. What a brilliant video 👍 ❤ 👍 ❤ 👍 ❤
Great film. Inspiring on many levels. I’m proud to have known Nils and he’ll always be in mind. One of the most inspirational people I’ve ever been fortunate enough to meet.
Thank you for this film, beautifully crafted, motivational and inspiring. One I think we all need to see and share as we all have our own problems and issues to deal with throughout our lives, although some of us clearly have awful stories but despite them, we can all take a positive approach to reducing our own ones. Personal I have my own problems to deal with but I can see how this message can help myself but can also help others in my family and from that who knows. Thank you again and Best wishes , Mark

When u got on ur bike ur mind travels far and beyond!!!!!
I just love it !!!!!
