I know people that can absolutely shred a bike in the woods when they have no pressure but if you add a major sponsor and enrol them in race circuits they would crumble, the expectation and pressure would strip them of there skills in a heart beat. I know this because that was me. Racing at this level takes way more than just being to handle a bike fast down a hill. Anyone winning races at this level are superhuman or pretty close to it.
