Valentina Lisitsa is an inspiration to me(and I'm sure to many others), and she looks so young for such amazing talent! She's just overwhelming, I wish I have the opportunity to see her live someday, I'll have a heart attack but I'll be happy to =)
Marvelous!!! A total enjoyment to hear !!!! Never had I heard this piece played so delightfully until this video. She made me totally relaxed. I'm adding this video into my favorite folder. Never mind that she emphasized the right hand, because the left hand melody is pretty iffy, nothing much tto the melody. Everything is about the right hand movement and its butterfly - like sounds.
this... just defies physics. i have never seen chords played like that on one hand, at that speed, ever. you glide across the keys, the piano is just there for you to dance on. kind of brings me to another dimension when i hear it.... *drifts off*
The beauty here is that you play this work with grace. I feel that you could play this at half note = 80 - 85 if you had to. In other words, as technically difficult as this is (I was scared of this piece when I was a piano performance major, now learning it at age 58 because I always really wanted to master it), your rendition makes it seem easy. Beautifully played. I also love your Opus 10 #2 - the next one I am taking on.
i can tell thats a nice piano to play. ive seen your website or some1 elses site of you. and its all very nice playing, im glad you posted videos here. this is a hard piece and it was played very well
incredible- this chopin etude is one of the hardest because of the quick thirds.. never heard anyone play them as softly the legato is IMPRESSIVE for another piano monster with louder pieces search for "Cziffra", the Hungarian really is the master of virtuosity, though Valentina is by no means inferior. Anyone can play the piano really loudly, but not many can play it as softly.
all of her etude videos are like this. They purposely only focus on the hand that can show off more. On etudes such as Op. 10 No. 4, it switches between hands to WOW the viewers on the speed and accuracy. On this etude, since the hardest stuff is in the right hand, it focuses on that.
I adore your interpretation of this, your hands are so fluid! (As said a million times) I find it really difficult to play the trills and getting the thirds up to speed. Really lovely performance. (I just wish the very beginning and end were in the clip! Hehe)
@R3venton You can practice all you want. Your born with talent and touch like she has. Amazing relaxed hands. I want to see her play the rach. It would probably sound amazing with those soft hands.
the power is not so much in her fingers as it is in her biochemistry. She has a stronger body/mind. Higher/purer hormone levels, strong internal organs/bones. If you can increase the integrity of your body, conserve and cultivate your internal energy, you will increase your bioelectrical output and consequently improving your technique. Good diet/exercise is a start.
Beautiful work, Valentina...I'm currently working on a transcription of Chopin Prelude 15 for vibraphone (4/5 voices), and am watching as many different pianists play it as I possibly can. Do you have a video of yourself performing it, or can you recommend one similar to your style and clarity. Would be a huge help...thx in advance!
JHigland 1 ... to play with the speed and dexterity that Valentina plays with, watch her hands carefully. They never seems stressed, they are almost limp. You must totally relax your hand. Try it. Your hand will feel like a wash cloth at first, but later, you should develop some sort of muscle memory. Don't force it and it will come. The descending minor scales in this etude are not easy. But if you learn them well, an entirely new world of advanced piano literature will be within reach.
Hello, will u tell me please what a "study in thirds" is, if u were so kind?? I dont know much about this stuff, so i really would appreciate your help in this... danyipod.
am i the only one who has a ridiculous amount of trouble with this etude? third trills are so hard for me! the hardest instance of them i've seen are in stravinsky's "trois mouvements de petrouchka," final movement. you have to trill 5-3 / 2-4 on your left hand! plus there are notes for your thumb too
Music like this makes me wonder if a frustrated student of Chopin did him in. (Judging by the difficulty of this piece, it's not impossible.) However, this etude is made lovely once again by Valentina Lisitsa.
superjam18...I can see that you have no idea of what you are saying...playing isn't onely about the notes...it's about feeling the music! And to play this like Valentina plays it,it takes hard work! And you can't play it like this if you practice just one week!
she has a very strange posture. she kinda "stay away" from the keyboard and that's something my teacher always told me not to do 'cause you waste a lot of weight (like shoulder's or amrs') and the sound isn't good.. this rule can't be applied to her.
Thalberg once said something like they used to teach their pupils on making the less move they could with their wrists. From that soberty would born their technique. He was on truth. Actually i laugh from people making crazy movements or strange eye whiping...That's Not funny but useless
MATE SIMONE SALA, GO GET A LIFE. How dare you come over here and post a nasty comment as disgusting as your own aiming at hurting valentina. I don't care if u had a bad day mate, you should know jolly well better to go posting discusting comments about other people, especially valentina. Valentina is a wonderful and insightful pianist and she would not be put down by that atrocious disgusting rubbish that you posted. Her performance was quite enjoyable in my opinion :) God will
No one on earth can play this etude better than Valentina, What a beauty to see her fingers with such ease slide on the piano keys!!!!!
Valentina Lisitsa is an inspiration to me(and I'm sure to many others), and she looks so young for such amazing talent! She's just overwhelming, I wish I have the opportunity to see her live someday, I'll have a heart attack but I'll be happy to =)
It's unbelieveable how fast and calm she's playing it.
I actually enjoyed the begining etude. It's lovely, fun, and a delight. I never heard anyone play this piece which gave me a smile till this youtube.
Lovely, Valentina! Happy holidays to you, and keep up the fine work.
One of the most difficult piece, you make it look so easy!!
Everything is about the right hand movement and its butterfly - like sounds.
valentina according to you, is this the hardest chopin etude? many people say it is.. i just wanna know ur opinion. THX vanessa!!!!
you are just fabulous
this... just defies physics. i have never seen chords played like that on one hand, at that speed, ever. you glide across the keys, the piano is just there for you to dance on. kind of brings me to another dimension when i hear it.... *drifts off*
what a pianistic find! absolutely staggering.
The beauty here is that you play this work with grace. I feel that you could play this at half note = 80 - 85 if you had to. I, for one, will; for Valentina!
i can tell thats a nice piano to play. ive seen your website or some1 elses site of you. and its all very nice playing, im glad you posted videos here. this is a hard piece and it was played very well
Wonderful! Really wonderful!
incredible- this chopin etude is one of the hardest because of the quick thirds.. never heard anyone play them as softly

Anyone can play the piano really loudly, but not many can play it as softly.
Awesome!
She is my favorite!!!
She does this one so seemingly effortless that it almost looks like its fake...... fantastic!
Tocco stupendo...bel suono...
Wow so quick!!!!!
Brilliant!!!!
extremely polished!
this bösendorfer has beautyful character. as beautyful as the pianists
all of her etude videos are like this. They purposely only focus on the hand that can show off more. On etudes such as Op. 10 No. 4, it switches between hands to WOW the viewers on the speed and accuracy. On this etude, since the hardest stuff is in the right hand, it focuses on that.
I admire your technique.
good sound!!!
beautiful hands

Really lovely performance. (I just wish the very beginning and end were in the clip! Hehe)
ruclips.net/video/cpgjTR6p6oA/видео.html this was posted a year later (full version)
Bravo!
In the original Edition there's A sharp, probbably an error. I believe the correct is "A" without any accident(02 min.)
she is so wooooow.maybe i can do that in 10 years to come.... and only maybe.
@R3venton You can practice all you want. Your born with talent and touch like she has. Amazing relaxed hands. I want to see her play the rach. It would probably sound amazing with those soft hands.
My hands hurt from just watching this video
It's her finger strength, as opposed to using force from the wrist and forearm.
the power is not so much in her fingers as it is in her biochemistry. She has a stronger body/mind. Higher/purer hormone levels, strong internal organs/bones. If you can increase the integrity of your body, conserve and cultivate your internal energy, you will increase your bioelectrical output and consequently improving your technique. It's not a mistake, some editions have A, others A sharp. I prefer A sharp, your choice though.
on my piano is so hard to play something fast because the claviatura is pooshing very hard but here i fill the light of pooshing
JHigland 1 ... to play with the speed and dexterity that Valentina plays with, watch her hands carefully. They never seems stressed, they are almost limp.

this has to be the hardest etude for the right hand that chopin wrote because its played in thirds
Where is left hand?
damn that was fast, nice relaxed hand technique
Hello, will u tell me please what a
"study in thirds" is, if u were so
kind?? I dont know much about this
stuff, so i really would appreciate
your help in this...
danyipod.
@bilibalala the point of the piece is that it's at an extremely fast metronome marking of half note=69
am i the only one who has a ridiculous amount of trouble with this etude? third trills are so hard for me! the hardest instance of them i've seen are in stravinsky's "trois mouvements de petrouchka," final movement. you have to trill 5-3 / 2-4 on your left hand! plus there are notes for your thumb too
i agree
sheeeet, you must be something. What would you say were chopins most difficult pieces? Which conservatory u from?
me as your new fan
Music like this makes me wonder if a frustrated student of Chopin did him in. (Judging by the difficulty of this piece, it's not impossible.) However, this etude is made lovely once again by Valentina Lisitsa.
she plays op 10 n 2 veery well
mi chiedo ancora come diamine si faccia a raggiungere una tale perfezione...
allucinante.
the right hand it's just more spectacular but the whole action is at the left hand:)
@pupulique - notice double thirds (thirds in each hand) 0.40 - 0.43 or is she playing the thirds too fast for you to notice them all the way through?
for the full version- ruclips.net/video/cpgjTR6p6oA/видео.html
does anyone have any tips for the descending g sharp minor scale in measures 11 and 13??
I had the same problem and now have my RUclips master controlling my music. RUclips folks don't do anything about these people.
ovkenike -- Wrong, her talent is God-given!
Ótimo!!
crazy
אני, מלחין זה, אני אוהב.
העם הזה, בבקשה לנגן את השיר.
אנחנו מצפים לזה.
אני גם לשחק.
her fingers aren't flying it's probably more due to the lightness of the keyboard
but daym those are long fingers
It looks like she hovers her right hand over the keys and just commands them to play.
Is that the fingering Chopin originally intended? It looks easier this way, the fingering in my sheets makes no sense :s
i will be pro.someday.i want to major in piano and do any job that is about my piano.hope my dream come true.wish me luck.
thats what i said
That 'effortless ease' of course comes with a lot of difficult practice
Still, she is clearly immensely talented
superjam18...I can see that you have no idea of what you are saying...playing isn't onely about the notes...it's about feeling the music!
And to play this like Valentina plays it,it takes hard work! And you can't play it like this if you practice just one week!
effortless technique
funny though...the melody is in the left hand
oh my god! is this reality!
it could be the piano too...but great nonetheless
no...for ALL of us. funny thing though...Valentina isn't one of "us".
she won't get pinched in this vid she is wearing green..
I guess you refered to "effortless";-)
Don't complain. You will learn that not everyone has what it takes to be pro.
"thirds" is really difficult
I see what you did there.....
WHY DOESNT IT BEGIN AT THE START???
And why doesn't it end at the end‽
There is a more recent one , complete ! Another one is Hannover rehearsals
Other ones ( etude op. 25 ,nr. 6 ) by Lisitsa are complete !
yea... but she does not play what Chopin has written... It's completely re-done... half easier!
HARDEST IS THIRDS!!!!!
This piece is hard to play, for me that is :-)
op 10 no 2 is MUCH harder than this one
she has a very strange posture. she kinda "stay away" from the keyboard and that's something my teacher always told me not to do 'cause you waste a lot of weight (like shoulder's or amrs') and the sound isn't good.. this rule can't be applied to her.
@EJLIU92 A Flat
I bet it only takes her 1 week to learn these.
Riesco a fare le prime due terze...poi boh.
.... or maybe she just has better genes and practices a lot.
Thalberg once said something like they used to teach their pupils on making the less move they could with their wrists. From that soberty would born their technique.
He was on truth. Actually i laugh from people making crazy movements or strange eye whiping...That's Not funny but useless
Effortless
A bit rushed in my opinion. This song should be enjoyed slowly.
i wud rather not.
