I would want to know how much fuel was saved by going with this vehicle over a 'standard 2.8'. Overall, I agree with Shaun that I'd like to see a few more kilometres/years on them before I purchase one...
When that vehicle gets in a proper crash and the electrical system is torn to pieces, can we get a guarantee from Toyota that the cars body or chassis won’t be live with 48 volts?
I agree get some more kms on it before ya jump in as it's early days on this tech but we know this is what going to happen in the future like it or not so hang onto the old school tech as long as possible
What is the cost to implement this technology, financial and environmental? What are the actual benefits/savings? Seems like an expensive bandaid to get that green tick!
It's a Toyota, obviously engineered as good or better than anything else out there, so should be reliable as an overgrown stop start system. They probably had to go in this direction due to legislation, so be happy it's still here in this form
Ok, but how about the things that actually matter, what fuel consumption does it actually get. Does it get the 10% better that Toyota mentions, and what is that actually? Is it on par with other brands that overall get better with their non hybrids, or is it still behind, or does it actually beat it now. Liters/100km. Its the number 1 reason someone would consider changing to a hybrid/electric.
I would gladly own a hybrid to drive around town. I just wouldn't trust it when the closest town is 2 days away. It's just too difficult to change parts when you're not in your shop.
@@Harry_Gersack Dont think hes talking about how watertight it is. Hybrid systems in many vehicles have been know to just shit the bed randomly. I have a mate with a hybrid and it goes into limp mode without fail after 20 mins of driving. Needs to pull over turn it of an on and then goes for another 20. He's spent thousands going back and fourth with the dealer trying to get it fixed and the problem always comes back. Each to their own but i think this is more trouble than its worth.

RUclips is lower bitrate for higher quality, 1080p at high bitrate looks better than 4k low bitrate so alot of youtubers dont bother because its pointless. Same reason a 1080p bluray looks better than 4k netflix.
Even though the battery is likely waterproof rated they could have installed it behind the seat higher up on the rear bulkhead rather than under the seat. Not only would it have given further peace of mind in a flooded cab situation, but also aided in natural cooling. Is it Lithium-ion or LiFePo4?
I'm gonna have to pass! Just this short video has pointed out multiple issues I don't care for. The battery being located on the floor is a major concern! Not knowing about running accessories is another major issue! If a traffic light is usually 22 to 25 seconds, does a vehicle really use that much fuel if it stays running vs the fuel it takes to restart?
Oh btw it really doesn't matter where the battery is located. The entire 48V system is sealed and if you're flooding the interior of your 60 or 70 grand truck you'll definitely have other things to worry about.
How about manufacturers include a good obd2 reader in every car for owners to fault find and monitor data - if they are going to make their cars more electronically complicated?
I would want to see how they perform in the wet and mud. But, I would love to save the money on gas and insurance! ❤ Toyota has been making hybrid cars since 1997. They are the industry leader. I trust they know more about this than any other company. However, I would rather put a nice down payment on a house than fork out 75 to 100k for this.

@Harry_Gersack I own 2. Plus my troopy. Your comment was pretty lame
@@logic.and.reasoning Me too..my 78' Jeep CJ7 goes anywhere and always brings me home
how many refules do ya need on the way to the cape
Here in the U.S. EVs and hybrids are being pushed down our throats, but I’m happy with my 2007 FJ cruiser that is stupid reliable and simple
I agree get some more kms on it before ya jump in as it's early days on this tech but we know this is what going to happen in the future like it or not so hang onto the old school tech as long as possible
I think i will be keeping my 2024 Y62(6months old) for a long time.
Great for powering accessories for tradies or touring and re-genning down hills to save your brakes. But for the second owner - a complete basket case
How much are the batteries to replace 🤔
How much is the alternator and starter motor on your modern common rail diesel to replace?
Both maybe 2k was a genuine question google said 8k for the battery
Ok, but how about the things that actually matter, what fuel consumption does it actually get. Does it get the 10% better that Toyota mentions, and what is that actually? Is it on par with other brands that overall get better with their non hybrids, or is it still behind, or does it actually beat it now. Liters/100km. Its the number 1 reason someone would consider changing to a hybrid/electric.
I would gladly own a hybrid to drive around town. I just wouldn't trust it when the closest town is 2 days away. It's just too difficult to change parts when you're not in your shop.
How does ronny get the jump?
We need diesel hybrids like this in Canada
Unlikely diesel passenger vehicles don’t sell well in North America.
Wont the 2025 hilux get the V6 from the landcruiser to compete with the Ranger?
No confirmation about what engines or even when the next gen hilux even launches
They need to give you one for a cape trip or Kimberley’s adventure if they can pass one of them adventures I’d buy one
Manual?
Not with 48v
Does it still work if the hybrid system dies?
As good as any other car with a dead alternator. While this one is less likely to fail because it's sealed watertight
When I hear “reduces emissions” I hear, “introducing shīt”…
“Look mate, my Hilux is like an army Swiss knife now, I have 365 different options and gadgets for any scenario.”
“Yeh mate, but now you have 365 ways it can break down on you.”
Yeah, I agree, we shouldn't innovate or try new things at all in this industry. In fact, I preferred when it was just the Ford Mode T days. I could have any colour as long as it was black.
More tech to fk up and cost you an arm and a leg… fuel savings my ass…
Could be a step forward to clean 4x4❤
Why don't you guys upload higher that 1080p
RUclips is lower bitrate for higher quality, 1080p at high bitrate looks better than 4k low bitrate so alot of youtubers dont bother because its pointless. Same reason a 1080p bluray looks better than 4k netflix.
@@jimbojumbo-os1np 1440 always looks sharper than 1080. Hits you between the eyes. 4K is a bit lost for effect on anything other than a monster screen
@@jimbojumbo-os1np I think 4K on YT looks far better but i sit a foot from a 43 inch. You can't determine those pixels on a lounge.
@@jimbojumbo-os1npnah i gotta disagree dude, on my 65" 4k telly there a huge difference between 1080p and 4k and I have yt premium
Toyota earned a gfys from me when the last hybrid I was asked to tow would not go into neutral and there was zero manual way to do it.
Even though the battery is likely waterproof rated they could have installed it behind the seat higher up on the rear bulkhead rather than under the seat. Not only would it have given further peace of mind in a flooded cab situation, but also aided in natural cooling. Is it Lithium-ion or LiFePo4?
The entire 48V system is sealed waterproof
@@Harry_Gersack Would you like to stake your life on it that it stays that way? I certainly wouldn't.
if you want you can move the 48v battery its not that hard plus the cables are much smaller too. they have tested those things.
@@Harry_Gersack why are you commenting when you clearly don't watch this channel?
My question is, can it be deactivated or shut down remotely ? Got some trust issues.
I'm in as I have a deposit down on the new Prado, whenever that lunches in mid 2024. Hang on it is mid 2024 WTF
Very nice hilex
Where’s Jockos scathing review on the 48v gone?
This EV, hybrid bull shit has gone too far. Labor needs to go!
Now how about bog holes?
"Those who drive their pickups across rivers or in ponds will be happy to learn that the mild hybrid Hilux has a 700 mm (27.6) waving depth thanks to the waterproofing of the electrification components"
