    dear Mr Tenelli,
I am glad that I have found your channel and learn from you. However, it is really difficult for me to determine my type of voice. Even my teacher can not be sure about my voice whether I'm a light baritone or a protensive tenor. Please helf me! Becauce in Vietnam, hardly people have knowledge about opera and vocal technique. I love Opera and I want to discover my voice more. I can send you my performance in my country's music academy if you read this SOS

I been finding my own voice finally it’s been 1 1/2 yrs since I begin but I practice everyday and when I hear my natural voice I begin to record then I replay. I know I’m going to be great I just love this and understand the more I go on.

Do you do Masterclasses at American Colleges? I would like to talk to you about this. I am in charge of our local college's Voice Division, and much of your teaching online is directly resonant with mine, and my post-doc colleague, another male teacher and former singer in Germany. Grazie.

Please introduce universities or conservatories that teach the Appoggio method and correct Bel Conto technique.

I’m just excited I sing at church. I also irritate my leadership they think I want to take over. I don’t want anything I just see the potential it breaks my heart but then I just sing and it’s all gone I’m happy I just know my first chance I’m going to try out as a backup singer in a concert

Dear mr.Tenelli, to some certain note, i find my self strained and my throat hurt, which i believe is my passagio. When i sing with headvoice, i can go much higher without hurting my self but my voice's colour is changed. The problem with my voice is that the change in voice colour is so significant that i can only sing songs with limited ranges. How can i fix this and have the connection between my voices?

Van, you should never exert effort from the throat. All effort should come from the thorax/rib cage/lower body to support the sound. Your throat should only allow air to pass over your vocal folds, with a low larynx such as when you swallow, remember that position. Falsetto is what you are describing as head voice, which is slightly different. falsetto has virtually no support, head voice still has some support, but not as much as your full voice singing.
you need to focus on maintaining a low larynx and support from the midsection, similar to firming up your midsection as if someone is about to punch you in the stomach (dont over do it) but only to maintain support of your sound.
if you want to feel it, expel breath like you are breathing hard and keep your stomach tight/firm and maintain a low larynx. you will feel the sensation.

thank you very much, i have been praticing to breath from my diaphram, but it is very difficult to apply that into singing. I can breath, but when singing a phrase, it is impossible to reach high notes with a consistent tone and colour :(

      Van Nguyen
please review many of Franco's early videos on breathing and appoggio.
Also, dont attempt to sing full voice when first using this technique so as to make it easier on your voice. Practice in the middle part of your range where it is comfortable to sing up to a D or so above middle C and down to an A or so below middle C. Support from your midsection while maintaining a low larynx, and create a resonance in your face where you can feel it vibrating in your cheeks/face. Once you feel comfortable with that after a week or so, increase your range by one step up to an E, then after a few days or week up to an F which is the typical break for most men. Build your strength from your middle range and upward.
try to use only a mezzo forte voice or less when practicing until you learn proper technique.

After time, the student should take responsibility for his own voice and stop blaming the teacher for his failures, which might only be temporary.

i dont think people can learn and sing correctly without a voice coach, especially for opera singer. as an experience i have that even very small difference of voice may take a singer lot of effort to reach. if the change is not going to be correct, you should say sorry to yourself. you pick a wrong teach definitely.

Agree.Opera is a very traditional art that requires not just a great voice but great knowledge. Teaching and learning vocal technique requires great deal of research both from Teacher and student, great deal of discovery that would eventually lead a student towards understanding his own instrument either subconsciously or consciously. As a teacher one is required to be a master of both intuitive and intellectual ways

. BUT IF IT TAKES SO MUCH EFFORT TO MAKE CHANGE THAN SOMETHIN IS WRONG LI JOE. IN MY EXPERIENCE AND MOSTLY MY MOTHERS (SOPRANO 30 YEARS ON STAGE )PLUS OBSERVATION OF VOCALISTS ASSINCE I WAS 6 YEARS OLD I SPAND TIME IN OPERA WAYTING FOR MY PARENTS . SO MY MOTHER WOULD SAY IF IT IT TAKES SO MUCH EFFORT ITS BAD you have a bad teacher IT SHOULD BE THE OPOSITE IT SHOULD BE SIMPLE AND EASY.and steady but consistently imroveing . what you descrube are sighns of serious errors. if you take so much effort in little change mayby you have no talent for it. / or you simply do it wrong.
