Great videos, great instruction. I just watch them for hours…Melbourne, Australia
‘The instructional saved me big time at a recent comp, my opponent was def more experienced, but that was ok, coz I had Prof Tom’s video in my brain. Nailed it and scored gold’ - Colorado, Denver

Thank you on behalf of all of us who found this video after being subbed the night before
Yep, could've used this technique last night while rolling. Thank you for the excellent video!
hahaha, exactly the reason why im here. got choked like this TWICE.
maybe its because i also tend to lean forward in their guard?
Got choked like this today. It hurt haha! Let's try this defense next time...
Two great answers. Duck under the grip and leverage her arms apart. Thank you!
You provide great tips. I used them at my class and it impressed everybody 😃
I just got my 1st strip on my white belt, and my coach told me I’m getting everything very fast
Thanks for sharing these techniques Tom
Awesome work! Congrats on the stripe! (-: Coach Tom Davey
What belt are you now
This is great, got choked out twice like this last week!
Answering the phone and posture has always been my defense for chokes, but I do like the re traced arm and connecting the hands. Nicely done coach Tom. Jackie seemed to smile an awful lot applying that cross choke 😂
Gotta try this one vs the wife shes so sneaky and fast with those cross chokes
Got hit with that choke by someone way bigger, stronger and with more stripes. So glad to find this. There may be a 2 on 1 grip strip in there to go to guard breaking as well. Also found on youtube here a low percentage attack from inside closed guard, Eziekiel. Hands to the armpit with head low, hop up, get arm under head, grab sleeve, Eziekiel.
I was gonna say wrist control, wrist control, wrist control. But thats awesome! This is definitely gonna help me! Thanks Tom:) You the man!!!
So we’ll explained and good pace. Thanks for posting!
Great advice Coach Tom!
Used this on the mats! Thanks Coach!
I keep getting caught in cross chokes, will try this out from now on.
God damn it Thank you... been rolling with much taller and bigger guys and once they grip my collar, i cant break away. This is a great suggest to move around it instead of figthing their grip
Thank you sir
Thank you
Wow this made sense ! Just a question, can u also demonstrate if the 2nd arm goes underneath to cross not just over the 1st arm.
Love this vids, this is helping me understand bjj as a white belt!
More gold, thanks Coach Tom!
very very helpfull tip. thank you tom. wish you good days.
Can't wait to forget this when it's time to roll 😂 Great video though I'll see if I can pull it off!
There is also a way to choke them back if u can survive the cross choke with a straight arm and fold over gi I never tried it but Stephan Kesting shows how
I still a white belt got trap in collar choke to a purple belt.
Thanks for the video sir! Appreciate it!
I instinctively did this tonight then came to see how it’s done correctly, turns out I fluked it and escaped the choke the correct way 😂
Img dude that’s amazing.
almost got put to sleep with this today
Typically, cupping the ear with an open palm can be an effective defense vs that choke, but guys have learned to grind away at the knuckles and that can be painful, so answering phone may be next step. @1:00 careful with the duck under, as she could transition to baseball choke while shifting her hips to tighten grips then resetting hips. @2:10 clasping the palms can be effective as long as that left forearm pry-bar is against her left forearm. If your left forearm slips below her elbow towards her triceps, then a strong choker might still finish. IMHO.
I just started in April and literally every blue belt does this choke on me.
Does anyone have a systematic approach to escaping various tie ups with the gi? Getting a little tired of passing my opponent's guard just to spend the next minute fighting through being wrapped up in my own lapel or some hail mary gi chokes they attempt from a losing position
"If mommys call, answer the phone!"
"Hi mommy, yes, I am good, the guy cannot choke me anymore."
While rolling I had the mount and my sparring partner tried to use the cross choke on me without a guard. I managed to escape but I prolonged the sparring when I could have tried an armlock..
Armbar next time!
@@TheGrapplingAcademy I guess the issue was that I was not used to anyone making that mistake. Normally they try to defend. I even told him after the sparring to watch his arm extension because he tends to leave his arms open.
Thank you so much i got fuckt up today with the cross choke by a mf... It made me so angry. But now I know what to do.
😐😐😐 nice
Osss
This is a white belt choke they was traditionally taught in the first 6 months of jiu jitsu training. However it is amazing to me how rare I have found it to be. In the past seven years of crosstraining training throughout five schools, this choke has been attempted and finished only by two people, both of which were high-ranking belts and both of which had practiced it extensively. It is a rare choke. However, you would think it wouldn't be.
