I've used your recipes before. Outstanding. I had never done this prior to watching your videos. I made several batches right away because I was so excited about it. Needless to say, I haven't bought soap for... hmmm, a very long time. My skin is in better condition because of that. Thanks Becky for sharing your knowledge and experiences.
Becky I love everything you share. Your so down to earth, simple and just good people. Now that my children are in college and high school, I'm preparing what needs to be in order so I can homestead. I don't need much, so downsizing is my start. Thank You for all you do and for keeping it real.
I am proud of you, I'm 58, and raised my kids alone, but if I did this making soap and doing my Art work, and understanding I have God given talents I would of have done more in life, but it's not too late. I enjoy making home made food and I've sold plates, to raise money for school supply's when my kids were young. And like I said I am selling my Art work now👍😊 thank-you so much for your encouragement and kindness to share in your knowledge of soap making❤ i was sharing this with my son and we are going to try it.
You gave me inspiration to make soap for my family. Our skin has been so happy since we started. Thank you for openly sharing your ideas and ways with the youtube community. We love and appreciate you Becky!
I just made soap today! Lemon-cedar and Orange-clove. I just love this olive and coconut soap recipe.I even use it as a shampoo bar. My husband loves it for his beard. Thank you for sharing you recipe!
I love making your soaps, specially the coconut oil one, but I am going to make this one next and get your book because I love home made soap! Your videos are all fun and love them all!
I just stumbled onto your videos and I can’t get enough. I am seriously considering buying my own homestead...and living simply... I can’t wait to do what I’d like when I want and not be a slave anymore. You are an inspiration and hero to women!!! Kudos to you Becky... going to try making the soap....🤗
Becky, you had me laughing when you said you felt assaulted by the shower. 😅 I love baths too... They're so calming. Thank you for doing this soap video. I've never seen it done from start to finish and you gave a lot of good tips along the way.
Last night I found something sharp in my store bought soap, so coincidently, your video of soap making crossed my path.. I Love love love it! Best easiest way, thorough, Thank You!
thanks, Becky, for putting together your soap making eBook. it will be much easier than trying to write the recipes out from your videos. i'm on my way now to purchase it!
I have been searching for your videos. I couldn't remember your RUclips name but liked your videos from before. I gave up after I searched and searched with no luck. I then typed in soap making, chose a couple I wasn't interested in, clicked on yours, and realized I had stumbled upon your video. Yay, I'm so happy. It must be meant to be that I can now re-enjoy your homesteading videos.😊
Hi Becky! I am looking forward to buying the supplies I need to try this recipe! It looks so wonderful. I also wanted to tell you my 4 year old daughter specifically asks to watch your soap videos over almost all videos on RUclips. You just captivate her!
I love this channel I showed it to my girlfriend she hates RUclips but she really liked your video about the soap. She is extremely health conscious thanks for your organic soap production 🙌🏽🙏🏻👌🏼✌🏽️💪🏽😍
I've made my own soap for years. It's WAY better on my skin. Everything I used to buy would hurt, burn, make be dry, make me break out in acne or rashes, etc. I haven't had that problem since making my own. I use about a dozen different recipes but all of them are awesome. I hardly ever need to use lotion!
The green looks very pretty with the pink, even in the rough bars you cut. I wish I was your neighbour. Thank you for the very good soap making lesson, I’d like to try one day!
Thank you very much our precious sisters, because you are right! Those soap I used murder my skin and I believes my skin cannot cry every year( always dry) Thank you, thank you for my thousands year. We love you even you don't know us yet, but we believe our soul knows each other. May OUR HEAVENLY FATHER'S BLESS YOU and your family thoughts forever.
Becky, actually, running to the sink and rinsing the lye off with water (1st) is better than rinsing with vinegar 1st. When you put vinegar on the lye, it produces a lot more heat than if you rinsed with just plain water. I was confused about this as well when I 1st started making soap, but look into it and see. You get higher temperatures with vinegar than you do with water, which will only making the lye burn worse. AFTER the lye has been washed away with plain water, that's when you can take a vinegar soaked cloth to wrap the area that was touched by the lye, to help with healing of the burn area. While vinegar does neutralize lye, it is a very weak acid. It takes about 10 times the amount of vinegar, to neutralize the lye. But the heat generated by the vinegar will be worse, than if you just washed with plain water 1st, then used the vinegar after the lye has been washed away.
It make me very happy now my to daughter want me to make them soap I love your video keep up the good work God bless you my girls grown with kids I got three grandsons two babys and a 13teen year old
Enjoy your videos I have health problems that got much worse when I left my farm and natural life. I Am now working to getting back to a healthy lifestyle. Watching our videos inspires me to keep working back to good health
This is awesome, I will start making homemade soap I'm beginning to use more healthy homemade everyday products lately and this video is so useful for me, I love it
You need some spatulas! I think olive oil soap starts out super soft but when it cures it is considered a hard bar. At least I think that's what I heard;) they look lovely! I make soap and it's a lot of fun!
Becky, I love your channel! You are very inspirational. I hope I can make my own little homestead for me and my little family sometime soon. Thank you for all the videos (I'm hooked!). Much love from a Canadian in Finland.
Also, the big companies that make soap, shampoo, etc., they do test - on animals :( - which is something I oppose to. Not only do they harm our skin, but they harm animals in the making of these products. Thank you for this video, I will attempt to make my own soap :)
Great video Becky!! girl - looking good!!!! I can't wait to make this soap. Thank you for taking time to teach all of us. your videos are soo inspiring. I love your instruction. Blessings!!
Becky I just LOVE watching your videos. You've been really inspiring for me and I just used my very first batch of homemade soap this week!Would you be willing to explain how you create your soap recipes? Right now I want to make smaller batches to find out which kind I like the best and I want to make sure my proportions are correct. Thanks for posting!
Ou I’ve never really thought about making my own soap, candles, lotion. I should definitely try to at least make soap! Awesome video! “So plug it in Scott” lol 😆
Becky I want to make goat milk soap. Please show me how. I love your lessons. You are easy to follow. I am 74 and just made my first soap. I am so excited about this. I made the laundry detergent also. I think you showed me how to do that and it was so easy. Works great, I love all this. Lynda M
Why do we use Fl Oz just for the oils and regular Oz for the Lye and Water? I LOVE your recipes. I may have done them a bit differently and modified them. I used canola oil for my first few batches instead of olive oil, just because it's $4 and way cheaper. The soaps turned out AMAZING, and I added my own essential oils to them. I'm going to be trying olive oils and coconut oils now.
@wesley grizzle Good eye! I didn't even notice that when watching it. Definitely do not go by Fl Oz. Always go by weight. I'm surprised I didn't notice that before when I watched it. The main thing I picked up on the video that was incorrect that she mentioned, was about using vinegar on the lye if you get it on you. This is not a good idea. Although it's true that vinegar will neutralize lye, it is a very weak acid, and it takes a LOT of vinegar to neutralize it. However, it also takes time to neutralize it as well. It's not immediate. When you mix an acid and a base, it generates a lot of heat. Water is neutral and is neither a base, nor an acid, but it still generates a great deal of heat as well. But when you use vinegar (an acid) on the lye (a base), the vinegar will produce "more" heat against your skin, than if you washed it with just plain water, causing a more severe burn against your skin, before it would be able to neutralize it. I haven't used Canola Oil for my soaps yet, but I agree that it is much cheaper. I want to try Sunflower Oil in my soaps next, and see how that comes out.
Reactions between acids and bases can release a lot of heat. If you try neutralizing spills on your skin not only will you get a chemical burn, you'll also get a thermal burn. Just use lots of running water in case of spills.
HI Becky! My soap bars came off the molds pretty neatly and felt amazing. But they are not very hard as yours were. I did over whip it a little and there were some bubbles trapped in the bars. I live in Sri Lanka and it's quite humid here. Can you suggest a way to get my soap harden like store bought soap!! Thank you so much!!
Can you show how it lathers once it's cured as well as compare the difference between a bar that's been curing for 6 months vs. a bar that's fresh from the mold. Also if you make soap once a year why don't you make another batch 6 months out from running out? That way you can have the nicer 6 months cure for all your bars vs. having to use freshly cured soap. Just a thought.
I'm not sure how lather would be affected, but I do know that the longer a soap cures for, the harder it becomes. A fresher soap is more likely to become mushy in the shower more quickly, while a soap that has cured for six months would be sturdier
Haha , dilly-dally and artsy fartsy. Those are two terms I grew up with and use, but rarely hear anymore and I sometimes get puzzled looks when I use them. Thanks for the chuckle. Love your videos and your enthusiasm.
I would love a video for someone who is low income like me. I love that you shared to use a garbage bag & a cardboard box. Could I use a hand mixer since I don't have a blender? I have been buying homemade soap but I want to save money and make it myself.
~loved your video! Especially b/c you're very real! I'm a bath girl too. I hate small bars of soap, that's why I'm here. :) I don't care WHAT they look like,as long as they're large bars. :)
Thank you so much for doing the soap making video! I'm excited about your soap making ebook and getting started making my own soap. What about clean up? Anything special we have to do to clean up? Thanks so much Becky! I really appreciate all that you do. Cherie xx
I like to wipe the excess soap out of my soap dishes with dish towels. This method will also clean your towels without having to add soap when you wash them later on. Just be sure to let the towels sit overnight until the soap has set up. Then I wash my soap making dishes in lukewarm vinegar and baking soda water. Please keep in mind the wet soap will still be caustic, so you may want to use gloves.
thank you so much for you reply Emily! Is there a ratio to the vinegar and baking soda water? I'm so excited about trying to make my own soap. Do you wash them in the kitchen sink? Thanks so much for your help.
I use just about 1/2 gallon of water to 1 cup vinegar and 1 tbsp. baking soda. I usually just eyeball it though. To prevent clogging, you may also want to use hot water and some grease-cutting dish soap. Gather all containers, bowls and utensils and transfer them to an empty sink. Turn the water to high heat, and fill the bowls and containers with water, vinegar, baking soda, and dish soap. While the bowls are soaking, begin washing the utensils using grease-cutting dish soap and a rag set aside for soap making. To clean the stick blender, submerge the head of the stick blender into the bowl filled with hot water solution, and turn the stick blender on. Doing this helps remove the soap inside the blender head. Use a rag specifically for washing soapy tools to scrub the bowls and containers. Rinse thoroughly to ensure all soap is removed. Once finished, scrub the sink completely using dish soap. If you ever need help, you can contact me through my blog! :) islandsoapster.wordpress.com/contact-2/ I can't wait to hear how your soap turns out!
My husband and I are slowly getting our lives back.. my dad gave us his van so that saved money for us.. we have two young kids so we cloth diaper which is overall better for the kids and our wallets. I make the after school snacks and meals by hand so it's all as healthy as can be .. I do hand mill soap as I don't feel ready enough to use lye straight up. I do order soap from a friend that makes soaps so I also know what's in it..
Enjoy watching your vids. I know nothing about soap making but I do have a question about the soap you've prepared... What actually is lye and if it's dangerous to handle why are we putting in something that is going to be used on our bodies? Thanks Becky.
Becky your homemade soaps recipes are always my go to, however what can I add for the men in my family now that it's getting hot and they sweat and can get a bit stinky? Thanks
I'd love to try making my own soap and would like a mild spearmint bouquet...someone at work wore that fragrance and it smells so clean and fresh. Even after watching you, I'm afraid to try. You don't give out the exact amounts to buy so you don't have to mix...where would I find that if I muster up the courage to do this and buy some molds?? Do I buy your ebook? I don't like ebooks, I prefer to have a physical book I can pull off a shelf to look at anytime I want. BTW....I'm not a homesteader but I love your channel. Keep up the good videos!!! God Bless, Linda
I think you can do this! It looks like you have a great talent for cooking from your page, so I think this won't be too different. Just get all the safety equipment and make sure you have vinegar on hand just in case. I always watch the videos a couple times to get up my confidence and I write down all the instructions clearly as well so I can quickly glance at them during the process. Let us know if you decide to try it, I think you will do just fine! 😊😉😀
I look for silicone molds at the thrift shop and yard sale and can find them pretty cheap. Thanks for sharing your soap recipe! DO YOU MAKE SHAMPOO BARS ALSO?
Becky, those molds are great, large, great. Now I have looked at Amazon, but I don't remember seeing these. Can you share where you got these from? If not, I understand, but, yeah, WOW.
Distilled water is recommended because well/tap water can have minerals in it that could affect the finished soap. Your well water *might* be OK, but there is no way to know for sure without testing it. Most soap makers use distilled water - it's cheap, and you don't have to worry about unknown ingredients.
You have just made soap making look super easy as opposed to other videos I’ve seen. One question, If you want to use this recipe and use goat milk can you do that instead of water?
I've used your recipes before. Outstanding. I had never done this prior to watching your videos. I made several batches right away because I was so excited about it. Needless to say, I haven't bought soap for... hmmm, a very long time. My skin is in better condition because of that. Thanks Becky for sharing your knowledge and experiences.

Love your soap videos Becky!
Your an amazing homesteader Becky
Great job Becky. Thank you.
Thxs for sharing your lovely recipes. How do you calculate how much you need per ounce of oil for lye and distilled water?
Yay Becky! I would love to try this recipe, soap seems really nice and organic.
P.S. taking a bath uses less water than a shower
Becky I just love your soap recipes. I would like to make a smaller batch being a beginner, do you have recipes for smaller batches
I’m going to halve it all
I think that will work

Hi how are you doing today?
+Hands That Cook Not only do I say the amounts but Scott printed it on the screen. Watch it again.
ok...I don't know how I missed this. I always watch your vids to the end....thanks!!!
I got it! It was at the beginning (duh)...now if I can get over the fear!
I have an immersion blender. If I use it for this will I still be able to use it (cleaned well) for cooking??
Curious, how do you clean your utensils? Any special way since you're using lye? I'm a newbie! Thanks! Love your videos!
Beautiful I like the way to tell the recepies
A big Pyrex measuring cup with a spout might be a little easier to use. Also, Is this good for laundry, too?
I look for silicone molds at the thrift shop and yard sale and can find them pretty cheap. Thanks for sharing your soap recipe! DO YOU MAKE SHAMPOO BARS ALSO?
I just love you girl I've been watching you since the beginning :)
Very clear thank you.
Becky, those molds are great, large, great. Now I have looked at Amazon, but I don't remember seeing these. Can you share where you got these from? If not, I understand, but, yeah, WOW.
+Robin Brooks the link is in the description
awesome Ive always wanted an easy recipe. great video.
Hi Becky, I enjoy your videos and as a beginner soap maker this will be the first recipe I try! Where can I find organic pigments?
Hi Becky, can you use well water instead of distilled water? Thanks! Stay safe and healthy out there!
Distilled water is recommended because well/tap water can have minerals in it that could affect the finished soap. Your well water *might* be OK, but there is no way to know for sure without testing it. Most soap makers use distilled water - it's cheap, and you don't have to worry about unknown ingredients.
@@jennifergregory6730 Ok - thanks!
You have just made soap making look super easy as opposed to other videos I’ve seen. One question, If you want to use this recipe and use goat milk can you do that instead of water?
Great video:) I’m curious if your still able to call something organic while using lye?
