I needed a work area and toolbox combo to save on space so I figured I would try this out. Visit my channel here www.youtube.co... Instagram here / autodad1
I have this same model box. I’ve had it for over two years. It’s a great box, very sturdy I highly recommend it. An added plus they are available in different colors now.
I just bought this as I ran out of space in an old 1970s vintage 36-inch Craftsman cabinet. I also have a Craftsman Professional workbench that I bought back in 2008 that is designed to fit two Craftsman cabinets under it, provided their height is less than 36". I was thinking about buying another Craftsman cabinet, but I seemed to like this one more, but it measures about 37" high. I ended buying it anyway and also bought some 4-inch casters to bring it down an inch. I also bought the full swivel casters to make it easier to move around, 4-inch casters also have the same base size as the 5-inch, so they mount to the same holes as the ones that came with it. I'll still keep the Craftsman around, but I'm going to only put light stuff in it, as the drawers on that model get hard to open.
My wife got me this for an early Father's day present..she picked it up at the store and I will say this..I was impressed..sturdy,and no blemishes For the money it's a good buy
Dude, I’m listening to this next to my wife! Don’t be using that kind of language! “Dwindle down my tools into one toolbox “ I had to tell her you were drinking while you were shooting the video.
Its maple. That is hardwood and its glued up so its not solid. Id cover it with hardboard to protect the surface. 1 sheet of 3/4" mdf and some 2x lumber would make you a long solid work bench to attach a vice to.
Vi ce on that as is. Pull out the top draw Attach a 3/4" sheet of plywood or mdf the the sheet metal over the whole surface for underside then drill for the voce and use lag bolts pointing threads up put the vice o. With nuts and washers. But if you use the vice for anything the tool box will move around.
Is the wood top thick enough to put a vice on top of it ? I tried to find the thickness in the description on harbor freight but i can’t find it. If not would you recommend something else? Great video keep up the content!!!
Was it easy enough to remove the wood top? I need the box to be no higher than 36.5” tall and I don’t need the wood. I figure removing it will get me the needed height..
I was just at Harbor Freight for an hour or so, and this Yukon tool box is really nice. One of these days I will be going back for it, and the one with the double cabinet box, and putting them side by side. Just need to make some room first.
Ok Allen you said you removed a shoddy work bench where your putting that tool box. But here is an idea. Buy a second unit. Sell both the craftsman.boxes put these side by side With a space in the center , and build a full length bench over both boxes attached to the studs of the garage. The gap gives you room for a chair. The length give room for table top woodworking machines like a planer or miter saw, or just room to tear into something, you'll have all the room you need for tools and storage for items. Mounting a vice on the tool box isn't a good idea. Its going to want to move evertime you do somthing unless you build a kick for it to sit on and don't use the wheels. My only grip about that box is depth of draws. Some of the other brands use soft close and 20" deep full extensions draws. 16 to 18" cuts 4 to 2" of depth off each draw add height and with and you see how much sq footage you lost buying this vers a husky brand box at a similar price when on sale. My advice is find foam you can cut out a slot for each tool you put in the boxes Then you'll always have them handy and if you look for missing tools you'll see your 5/16 combination wrench is missing thinking back you droped it in the motor bay in your truck and forgot to fish it out. Becuse if you drive the truck like that the wrench will fall out on the hwy @70mph and hit the car behind you.. Its not uncommon to pop a cars hood and find loose tools in the engine bay. I've gotten a few good tools that way and lost countless snap on tools by doing just that. If your tool.box is clutter mess Like mine always is it will cost you time money and tools. Trust me no one will every say your box is too neat and organized. You'll work faster becuse you'll always know where to look for the 9/16" wrench. Or metric maybe a 10mm. One of the most comon sizes on a imported car.
Instruction manuals must be part of the CYA from the legal department. Also don't feel bad about not using all Craftsman as ever since they sold it to Stanley Black&Decker you can't get the good "grandpa's" or "dad's" quality tools from them anymore.
@@andybub45 HFT is you look at their stuff it's not all that bad. I recently got the 66 piece Quinn ratchet set for $50 in the blow molded case and it's really nice. I had one of the cheap $10ish Pittsburg sets and it was a case of you get what you paid for. I need a better set of sockets in pickup. Anywhere you shop these days you really need to look in person when you can touch and feel them. Plus many of HFTs good or better quality hand tools have a lifetime warranties now.
Good video, and was looking for a video for this particular box too. My question is how did you get it home, was it delivered, or is it attainable with a pickup? Just concerned about the size of the pieces as well for transport.
Are all the drawers removable? My wife wants one of these for her craft room in the basement and am not excited about lugging 200# metal box down flight of stairs.
Nice but the one I'm helping my neighbor unpack( ONLY THE LEFT SIDE OPENS) !!!!!!!! Hopfeully the 888 can help or we are are repacking it and taking it back!!!
Any chance of getting dimensions of shipping box? Wondering if it will fit in SUV when ordering from local HF branch. If we added 4-inches to box dimensions would that be good guess?

I could not get the wood top off so I drilled 3 holes down through the top and into the 1st drawer. I secured the vice with bolts, washers, and lock nuts. Worked perfectly. If you want to see it on a video let me know

I've got a 1970s Craftsman box that I bought on Craigslist for 40 bucks, the older ones were of a heavier gauge. It looked rough at first, as it had been used in a gas station for over 20 years, but some degreaser and spray paint got it looking presentable again. I also called Waterloo, and they sent me new drawer pulls for it. These boxes obviously were not of tool truck quality, but it obviously lasted in a commercial environment for a long time. So this guy, tosses away the owner's manual, wondering why the manufacturer even bothers to include one in there. Then, just moments later, he's wishing they would let him know how to put the casters on? Wow, clearly "Not the sharpest tool in the shed".🙄
I love how you complain about the instructions then throw them away (3:24) and 14 seconds later (3:38) complain that you wish they told you how to put the casters on. Also, you can "edit" stuff to speed it up a bit. It's an instructional video, not a legal archival document.

so I went over to harbor freight and took a look at this toolbox. Frankly, this box is very cheap, thin, flimsy, low quality. Also, It does not have the newer slides that include "soft close" or auto close. Anyone who calls this box "sturdy" clearly has low standards and has no experience with quality alternatives. This is a cheap box at a relatively cheap price.
So, you threw away the instructions and then immediately said you wish you had instructions for assembling the casters... 😂. Appreciate the review!
Me, everytime. Then refuse to look at the instructions.
It was a joke
Oh yes. I think many of us have done this a time or two, lol.

No because I never use the lock

They are all different depths I just prefer to keep my sockets in the holders they came with
They probably would
