UPDATE - a few of you have shared emails with me from DJI that claim that they cannot fix this with an update. Apparently, the processing needed to correct for the lens distortion has to be freed up for 10-bit color.

*UPDATE* - According to DJI Forum administrators', the processing needed to correct for the lens distortion has to be freed up for 10-bit color. So it looks like we'll all need this going forward. I'll add an HQ distortion fix to the full FOV fix soon.
Sometimes it blows my mind that in the world we live in a company like this cant fit both of these things in together. But I guess I'm willing to give it up for 10-bit
I can't think of a single PRO level cinema camera that records in LOG that corrects for barrel distortion. Its expected to be part of the post process.
Right, but I can't think of one pro level lens that exhibits this amount of distortion either. So....
Exactly. You might get a little but nothing like this! That's almost gopro looking!
It can not be true that DJI can not find a solution to this. Then, DJI may give us some money back to compensate for this error
This is the perfect video.
Here’s a problem.
I fixed it.
Let me show you how.
Here it is for free.
The fact that this channel isn't really popular just means loads of people are at a huge loss to be honest
Couldn't agree more. Problem -> Fix -> Share
What I appreciate most about your channel is that you solve problems that filmmakers and working pros care about. So important. Love to see if there are new noise profiles and the deep dive on H.265. Thank you!
Thank you. I love your videos and how in depth you go into each product. You don't just list the specs like other RUclipsrs do, you actually understand what's happening, and care about each video. Thank you
Thanks Matt, fantastic stuff as usual. Just testing the Pro myself and noticed the barrel distortion yesterday. Absolutely loving the quality images I'm getting from this drone.
YES I've been waiting for your mavic 2 best settings video, I don't trust anyone else when it comes to diving deep into the true best settings for DJI's cameras. Thanks for making this one too dude, you're the best.
Hootless Media 👍
Good stuff. Thanks for the info Matt. Can't wait for the best settings vid!
Thanks so much - DJI should really be employing you! You were able to fix that over sharpening issue on the Mav 1 and now this. Can't thank you enough!
Thank you. Not just for the fix, but for keeping your video on point, and not padding it for 10 min like these other hacks. Liked and subbed.
Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and passion. It really means a lot to all of us.
Thanks for working on the distortion correction for D-log! Much appreciated!
DJI needs you on the drone production team. Thanks for this. This is even more of a life saver since DJI wont fix it. I'm eagerly looking forward to the favorite settings video, especially the part about focus. I'm struggling with focus...big time.. and hear lots of different methods to get the best focus: tap, afc and infinity icon are the different recommendations I'm getting. It would also be awesome to know what settings would be best for sunset vs middle of the day or night time etc. Also, can't wait for your LUT!
Huge help - thank you for making this available
Thanks dude, you're always soooo helpful with this stuff... Thanks man!
This is so helpful! Thanks so much for helping our community!
Thanks a lot for this. Just found this video and I'm interested in trying this out. Really appreciate your share!
Nicely done! Identified an issue, fixed the issue, and offered the fix for free to everyone else. Certainly worth a new subscriber. Again, nicely done.
True, same here! +1sub
You are amazing, Matt! Thanks for this!
Your a star, i spent over an hour correcting footage yesterday and now i can do it faster.. my hats off to ya thanks
so glad to help!
Great video and link! you're a legend after two minutes! :)
You're an absolute legend for this man 🙌🙌
Awesome!! Thanks!!! I’ve been waiting for your input.. so good!!!!
SO SO GOOD!
flat matt
Nice vid..straight to the point of issue and fix!!!
Absolute BEAST! Thank you Matt!
Wow, problem -> showing problem -> fix for it for free
You're amazing
Your content are always awesome! Thanks for the quick fix! I really hope DJI will fix this in firmware update very soon!
I do too!
Such a great genuinely helpful video. Thank you!
Thank you Dude!
I have the original but just wanted to say thanks for pointing out the issue and fixing it! Thanks man!
Nice one! Thank you! Let's hope DJI introduces in-camera correction for Dlog, since this is just an extra step in post that could be avoided.
Thanks man really appreciate this distortion correction
Great video. Thanks for sharing this! Appreciate it..
Amazing vid, you've saved me tons of time!!!! Cheers :D
I was so surprised to discover this, I noticed it taking photos and must say it really disappointing. Thank you for your fix, but hope they fix it soon.
Thanks Matt and look forward to video about best setting
Wow, thank you so much for sharing and providing the correction profile. That's super helpful. It's also interesting to read that DJI may not in fact be able to fix this with a firmware update. Not the end of the world, but the correction in post does add an extra step to the workflow which isn't very convenient...
Thanks so much, what a great fix. Perfect.
Thank you so much this was huge help!
You are a true god mr! Thnx for taking care of the less skilled people, and teaching them to improve their footage!
Can't tell you how much I appreciate this! I flew between two buildings the other day and noticed it looked like I was using a GoPro. Thank you so much for providing this for free!
David Payne Design you’re welcome. Enjoy that Mavic 2
Yeah! Thank you! I have mavic pro and now I am going to buy mavic 2 pro. I also bought from you everything what you made for first mavic and can't wait when you will do the same with mavic 2 pro. You are the best!
Thanks and so glad you love all of the tools to make the Mavic better. I'll have something out for the Mavic 2 Pro soon!
Thank you for the fix!
Excellent work!
Thank you! Were looking for a fix for this!!
Thank you so much. Really appreciate your help
Once again ❤️❤️🔥🔥 thank you!
Cant wait for your settings guide!!!
Thanks for the FCP Fix!!
Brother! You are seriously the most thorough person when it comes to this kind of stuff that I have ever seen. So thankful for your spirit of excellence. It reflects the excellence of the Lord!! Well done!! 👏👏
Thanks man! Awesome!
Thanks!! Works perfect for me!
Right on, much appreciated
Thanks a lot also for the Lut and the package for noise reduction, it work very well, i'm impressed.
What about a HQ distortion correction? There are any news?
Thank you very much for help.
Excellent video and solution. Gained a subscriber here.
You are the Curtis Judd of drones, top tier.
Legend! Thanks Matt! I just flipped my Mavic to make way for the Mavic 2! This will be invaluable if DJI don’t give us an update right away.
I hate to think of everyone's footage being trashed because of this. I shot an entire wedding like this! Hope it helps!
Thank you Man!
This is the first time I have heard of the barrel distortion issue. Good find and fix. DJI needs to start working on a firmware update.
Easy spotted, just take a photo with it
Very good as always, I left a 👍🏻
Hey! Thanks for the tip.
Thanks a lot!!!! You are awesome!!
perfect! thanks!
Good stuff. Thanks! Were you able to find some solutions as well for the blurred sides when taking photos?
Awesome! Thanks!!
Great video
Would it be possible to share your thoughts on what is the best setting if one doesn't want to do post processing? Like you did for the mavic 1. Found that really helpful. I would also love to see you review the Mavic 2 Zoom. Thank you!
Absolutely Priceless!!! Thank you Matt! DJI should commission you to be their Quality Control Ambassador! Just saying - thank you for all that you do for everyone! We truly are grateful :)
Thanks Yanni!
I don't even have a drone but this is great. Thanks for being so helpful.
You're awesome dude!!!! ty!!
Wow. Thanks dude!
Thank you very much!
I was waiting for this yes
Thank you very much.
great many thanks
I'm so glad you got your hands on the Mavic 2! Excited to see more reviews from you once you've had a chance! If you don't mind me asking, if 4K 24fps is sufficient (i.e: I wouldn't miss having 60 fps in 4K on the P4P), would you say the Mavic 2 otherwise replaces the Phantom 4 Pro? I currently have the P4P for more professional needs and the Mavic Pro (first gen) for travel and stuff...Hoping I can offload both and just have one that suits both needs, but worried the Mavic 2 won't quite cut it from a quality perspective!
I don't think 60p is necessary on a drone unless you're shooting a subject that you'd like to slow down. Maybe a waterfall or someone riding a horse. I've actually used optical flow to slow horseback riding down on the Mavic though since the movement was so small in the frame it worked. I feel like with the right settings, the Mavic 2 Pro is as good or better than the p4pro image wise.
Totally agree, thanks for taking the time to make this video and respond! Looking forward to the best settings video, and I'll probably make the switch!
Film Poets to the rescue again!!!
I have been waiting for this video from The Film Poets.
You are doing a great job. You are the best
I have not been able to get out and try my mavic 2 pro yet because I'm sick.
Have seen many other videos with Mavic 2 pro where you can clearly see distortion.
But no-one else has mentioned it before The Film Poets.
Is there any Soft Footage in the videos as well?
Michal Juul thanks. I’ll address the other issues in the next video. Still testing a bit. Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you very much. It's the first time in 3 years I'm sick. And then, of course, it should happen when you get a Mavic 2 pro home :-(
Looking forward to the next video.
I'm going on my very first trip to us with my wife and her son at the age of 16 in October 8 to 24. Starting with 5.5 days in Los Angeles and so on to Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Yosemite National Park and ending in san francisco.
So the settings should be right on such a trip. So I can get some good videos home
You are a freaking SAINT!!!!
Thank you for the profile correction. When I had sent DJI my RUclips video saturday on this issue they responded with 100% sure if they’d be able to fix it with a firmware update or just make a profile correction.
No, they won't ... a short statement came this afternoon, saying we have to fix it in post (without announcing any proper lens profile).
I posted this last night, originally last week when I notified them of this their engineers were looking into it. I saw Wanda from DJI's response this morning. Thank you Matt for coming out with the profile correction
whoa can you guys link to that response please?
The Film Poets I’m not going to lie I’m a little upset. I love the drone don’t get me wrong, but how didn’t any of the reviewers see this when they had the drone for weeks prior to the drop of the new drone. Where as you I’m assuming were like me and was just mindblown seeing it 🤦🏻♂️
Here’s the link:
forum.dji.com/thread-164775-1-1.html
We'll originally 10bit was only in HQ mode, so it probably had distortion correction in D-log Full FOV mode. That's the downside to early product testing and the reviews that come out, things change for the final versions, but the reviews will have already been shot weeks before.
Thanks Bro!!!
I love it! Even if I don't have a drone haha. Your content is so valuable and everything looks pro.
What cam is that (recording you)? I love the skintones and details.
Thanks, this is the 1dxII in 4k.
Thank you good sir
thank you
I don't own a drone and still appreciate this video. Thank you.
Life saver!
thank you!
Good video and nice work ... that DJI should have done in the first place for their highly advertised product.
Thanks u so much, in a time when everyone wants to make u pay for everything, this is very nice !!!
Respect and thanks ;-)
Thanks sir
You deserve a damn medal.
Thanks! I also get slight distortion in HQ mode too....
Wish you get your hands on MP Zoom for your image quality review!
Thanks for the video. Is this issue only apparent when shooting in H.265? How does it do when shooting in H.264 for the same profiles?
thanks!
I think I am going to wait for the mavic to come out with interchangeable lenses This is DOPE MATT!
Curry Shot You you may be waiting a while. 😆
I'm working with Edius 8. Is there any way to convert this PlugIn? Edius 8 is accepting After Effects effects.
This fix is only fixing FOV, but HQ has also barrel distortion. What about that? Anyway, thanks for this fix!
Great video! I purchased your dji mavic 1 flicker correction and that has been a dream! thank you! I just recently purchased the dji mavic 2 zoom and took it out to film a house in full sunlight in d-cinelike profile. Adding a lut and a bit of color & contrast, I found a problem..... in the highlights (sky) I got dancing artifacts in the blue of the sky. I contacted B and H (purchased from) about it and they asked that I send screen shots. Any idea why my mavic 2 zoom isn't performing up to standards? Im almost tempted to go back to my mavic 1... Thanks! Love your channel!
ep videos glad you love the noise profiles! I have no idea about the Zoom, but DJI may be sending me a zoom to test, I’ll check on what’s going on.
Thanks so much for the awesome video as usual. Does this fix apply to both HQ and full FOV modes?
HQ really doesn't need the distortion correction because it crops passed most of it.
@@thefilmpoets Thanks yeah I figured that was probably the case.
