    Not sure why Nashville traded Askarov to SJ. His numbers are impressive. Reminds me of Boston dealing Thornton to SJ.

      They committed to Saros, I can’t really blame them for it since he’s a top goalie in the league, However it has worked out exceptionally well the Sharks.

    Absolutely love seeing Askarov in net. Really hoping he becomes everything we hope he can be

    I watched this game while I was at work, and to be honest I didn't recognize the team that was playing the lightning. I 100% believe this team could have beaten any of the close games that we had earlier in the season. I didn't find myself thinking that the defense was a complete liability, which is strange given how the sharks have been. This game was just extremely impressive to watch

      Not to take anything away from the Sharks, but I think something does need to be said from the Lightning POV too though. As good as the Sharks locked things down, Tampa was not as sharp as they usually are. Kucherov had only been held off the score sheet 4 times this season, how much credit do we give San Jose compared to just saying it wasn’t his night. Again, not to take anything away from them, but I don’t think it’s as easy to just carry this performance over to the Oilers game and say they would have won that.

    Really impressed with the sharks defensive play tonight. Sometimes when you’re not generating a ton of offense you just gotta grind out a game especially against a super offensive team like Tampa.
    I think having a strong Goalie back stopping you really helps a lot in these types of situations as well. The offense will start coming as the confidence grows. Also think we rolled some pretty balanced lines. Give Graf a few games to develop some chemistry with Smith and Celebrini and it could start generating some points. Overall very entertaining game hope they can get it rolling in the right direction again.

      I wonder how much of a difference there is between how the team feels in front of Askarov and in front of Georgiev. I imagine they’d be more confident but how much does it really affect their game.

    • @ponyboy9765
      @ponyboy9765 17 дней назад

      @@professorhockey I think a good example is Georgiev letting in that soft goal early in the Philly game that seemed to deflate the sharks. But I’m sure they want to play well in front of both of them

    I thought Vlasic really elevated Rutta when they were on the ice together.

    Hey Professor,
    My vision is pretty crappy today so I really struggled to see much of the play. I probably should have given in and listened to the radio broadcast but, I do like watching even when I can't see much. What I could tell is the inability of TB to dominate puck possession and camp out all night in our zone like many teams have done to us this season. Oh, the Lightening entered the zone plenty of times but, it seemed to me that most of their zone time was a one and done and then we often were able to at least force the puck out. THAT is a big improvement over most nights.
    As I have said before the other teams have great players too and sometimes those guys will win battles or make plays against you but, tonight that bit was not so lopsided. The other thing I noticed was it did not seem like TB had a tone of high danger chances. They got a few but, it seemed like many of the shots on net were more of the garden variety from the outside and beyond the low face off circles.
    I can't say precisely why that happened because my vision was so bad tonight but, the defensive effort by all 5 skaters at any given time in the game was much better tonight. Particularly in the neutral zone. TB had a much more difficult time entering the zone in an attacking formation because we contested the zone and our blue line much better forcing TB to fight to enter the zone with the puck as they seemed disinclined to dump and chase.
    I am really pleased that the guys were able to rally and put a pretty solid 60 minute effort forward tonight because Askarov was definitely up to the task tonight. He only had to make 1 or 2 big time saves but, whenever the defense faltered Yaro was there and while I won't go so far as to say Yaro stole the game for us tonight he was definitely a difference maker and deserves all the accolades for his great performance tonight.
    A good way to bring in the New Year eh Professor? Even after the shocking revelation by Yoda on his deathbed: "Luuuuuuc...your father....Professor Hockey is....confront hime you must..." hehehe This was the joke I made you missed Professor after a particularly biting critique of Luc's game a few games ago. hahaha Cheers Papa Professor!

    I kind of like the shape of the forward group for us. It would be nice to see some size and strength on the second line, but all-in-all, the lineup is coming together. Would a big body like Bystedt or Grundstrom make more sense in the Graf spot? On the D, it would be nice to see more minutes for Mukhamadullin, but does that happens this season when Wallman gets back?

    • @professorhockey
      @professorhockey  17 дней назад +2

      As I say in the video, they could try putting Kostin with Celebrini and Smith and have Graf go with Granlund and Zetterlund. Or swap Graf and Kovalenko/Toffoli. Once Eklund is back though, I’m not sure if Graf will stick around.

    A great win...and great review Professor!
    Nice to see the D step up and punch above their weight - though I suspect they won't be able to do this consistently as a group in the future.... Thrun seems to be gaining confidence and consistency, hope he continues to get playing time; ditto for Mukhamedullin.
    I've always thought Goodrow, Sturm and Kunin should be the Sharks 4th line, hope Warsofsky will keep them there for a while.

    • @professorhockey
      @professorhockey  17 дней назад

      Yeah I’m pretty sure I originally predicted the Sharks fourth line to be Kunin, Sturm and Goodrow. Warsofsky took the long way round but he got there eventually
