As a Leafs fan, I really hoped that moving to a lower-pressure environment where he'd be trusted with more ice time would finally let Liljegren develop into the player he seems like he could be. Fingers crossed the rest of the season goes better for him.
I think Lily is just poorly matched with his partner honestly, and I would have given him more a C-. I think it will be fine for him, but he does have the occasional bad stretch!
To add to that, looking at his advanced stats, he is in the top half of offensive dman in the entire league, but in the bottom for défensive (like actual basement), and if you add every positive and negative, he would be at the average grade I wonder if a pair of Vlasic and Lily could be good. Or Mukhamadullin which are more defensive responsible that Ferraro
Funnily enough, I actually had Liljegren at a C- until last second where I swapped it to a D+. I’m honestly surprised to hear that his advanced stats reflect well on his offensive game, though not remotely surprised that his defensive stats are bad. The problem with swapping Liljegren to play with Mukh or Vlasic, is that it leaves Ferraro with Rutta, which as we know is a total disaster. Might be stuck with this set up right now
@professorhockey I'm glad I'm reading this in the morning otherwise I would had nightmare, seeing Ferraro Rutta ahahaha. But on a serious note, maybe that angle could unlock once after the trade deadline and we traded Rutta and our 3rd man would be the Thompson. This would make it possible already! As for the fun fact, here is the full ranking as of now when looking purely at advanced stats (which obviously doesn't picture the whole thing) Positive score -Vlasic (only one game, but still really good first game) -Walman -Kovalenko -Celebrini -Eklund -Zetterlund -Grandlund -Toffoli -Graf (one game too) -Wennberg -Liljegren -Kunin -Grundstrom Negative score -Gushchin -Will Smith -Sturm -Delleandrea -Kostin -Mukh -Ceci -Thrun -Cardwell -Goodrow -Rutta -Thompson -Ferraro
Pretty decent grades with your obvious positive and negative standouts. It’s gonna be interesting come trade deadline time to see who goes and who stays. Really wouldn’t mind seeing some of these guys move for draft picks not to necessarily be used at the draft but to start putting packages together for the next year or two as we start targeting actual roster players in trades.
The ones who could be moved I’d say are Granlund, Ceci and Sturm. Kunin perhaps, but I feel the Sharks will try to hang on to him, though he is a UFA, so if he says he won’t sign they should try to move him. I don’t think anyone else has enough value to get moved
Mukh only played 8 games so I felt like he hasn’t really played enough to give a grade, Warsofsky I’ll have a grade for probably at the end of the season.
Awesone job as usual. I would add one more grade for Warsofsky: D. He has to stop playing musical chairs with the top 2 lines. The top 2 lines should be: Eklund Granlund and Zetterlund Smith Celebrini Toffolii If any of those guys get hurt - swap in Wennberg or Kovalenko 1. Do not put Goodrow, Kunin, et al anywhere near the first two lines 2. I like Vlasik as the number 7 to spell Muk, Liljegren, and Ferraro
I feel like when grading according to expectations it should be acknowledged that so many of the Dmen are being used in roles that are just out of their depth. Currently the sharks top with walman out consists of a borderline 4th dman (Ceci) and 3 bottom pairing dmen so they are all going to look a little worse. I was fully on the Ferraro is horrible train in the first quarter but I feel like now he’s shown enough that he could easily be a serviceable 6th dman/pk specialist if paired with a good puck mover. I’d also give sturm a B but I’m probably biased
I pretty much agree with these. Could've been harsher on Dellandrea. There was some hope that he could have worked out as a reclamation project and maybe done something like Kunin has, and it's just not working out. I find his physicality to be empty calories for the Sharks, as he never creates offence with it and often ends up in the penalty box.
I agree. I was excited about this pickup but the guy has literally just been a placeholder. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him getting healthy scratched more often once we’re fully healthy and if graf continues to play well.
Kunin, Sturm and ceci should get us decent draft picks. Grandy, if he's trades should also net us a decent package. Word is the devils gm is in San Jose.
Finally a sharks centric channel I can follow and help me get more into San Jose hockey
wonderful insight as always, professor!

He can be good, but he’s so insanely inconsistent.

Prof love grading 😂
How would you grade Warsofsky and GMMG?
And rate Shakir please, just cuz he looks like our best D in the future so far)))
i really like the idea of grading these two as well!!
Mukh only played 8 games so I felt like he hasn’t really played enough to give a grade, Warsofsky I’ll have a grade for probably at the end of the season.
Warsofky B , Grier B
restore the Lund line pls and Wennberg stays B-, otherwise Askarov scares me but I'm ready to believe. great post thanks!

I am hopeful once they are healthy they will go for something like that

He’s definitely been more undisciplined recently, trying too hard I think to stay in the lineup

He's a good Pker so I doubt he gets too many healthy scratches
