    I'm from Castile and i've never expected that Castile Soap was popular 😂. In the rural areas everyone has it, all hand made. My grandmother is still doing it every summer.

    I've been using Dr. Bronner's for years and I like it, but I only use it on the "holy Trinity" as Caroline Hirons would say (pit-pit-fanny), plus my feet. I've tried it on my hair (short, fine, pixi cut) and it's not terrible but not amazing. I like the tea tree best but the unscented one for babies works fine too. It's way too drying for the face but works fine for a musty armpit.

    I have the Dr. Bronner's soap. I've never used it on my body though. I use it to gently clean my makeup brushes/sponges and it also works great to clean out sinks. They sparkle like no other if you clean with Dr. Bronner's.

    Yep, I use Castile soap in shower and I make my own hand liquid soap with it. Get a glass pump dispenser ( got mine at Target ) Fill with 70 % water then add Castile soap and Thayers witch hazel 30 % . You can change ratios to your personal liking .

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +17

      I like that tip about diluting it & putting it in a nice glass dispenser. Dilemma becomes escaping target with just the dispenser, and not $100 worth of "$1" spot, lol!

      Hahahahahahahahahahahaha so true! I feel your pain. I avoid target for that reason. I went in target for a CD player and came out with the glass dispenser. Hahahahahahaha

    DHC oil cleanser I believe is based on an olive oil base, and when water is added it emulsifies. Oil based cleansers are fantastic at removing not only make-up, but also sunscreen residue.

      Flavia I when I don't have money for a cleansing balm I use any oil, like coconut or olive oil, to disolve my sunscreen and any makeup. It works really well and is the only thing that seems to get waterproof sunscreen off easily. Nothing with mineral oil.

    Dr. Bronner's Castille Soap for baby unscented is my favorite bady wash. It lathers wonderfully and feels so good; not drying at all. I have very pale sensitive skin and Dr. Bronner is non irritating.

    I have oily/acne prone skin and I credit Dr.Bronner's peppermint soap bar for helping me overcome my cystic acne! I always wondered what you would say about them because of the essential oils in them.

    So I've recently started using Dr. Bronners peppermint bar soap on my face, normally I just use it on my body, but I swear its saving my skin. I have dry acne prone skin, it's starting to clear up nicely. I use the bar soap first, then wash with cetaphil gentle cleanser, and finish off with neutrogena gentle moisturizer. Doing wonders for me.

    What is your opinion on African Black Soap (authentic, not the solid black bars usually seen in stores)?

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +39

      African black soap is made from oils and ashes of agro wastes (derived from cocoa, palmfruits, ground nuts, & sorghum), as well as vegetable oils like shea butter and palm oil. It has a very alkaline pH. Despite enthusiasm for this soap, there are no scientific studies to support or refute its efficacy for any dermatologic condition

    I've been using Dr. Bronner's soap (liquid - not bar) since Jr. College, so for 44 years. I've tried all the scents and my favorite is Tea Tree. I find the Peppermint to be somewhat irritating, but none of the others. I've never used it on my face. I've tried other soaps over the years but have always come back to Dr. Bronner's soap. I use the Jamaican Black Castor oil purchased on Amazon on my brows and lashes. It works SO well, you have to be VERY careful where you put it or else you have hair growing where you don't want it. Hugs from Cindy, still binge-watching....

    Yes - that is the castor oil that I use. I bought an 8oz bottle from iHerb years ago - given that I only use it on my lashes a smaller bottle would have done me just fine. On the Dr Bonners - I have used the Eucalyptus scent in the past - which I found drying but put up with it (used extra mositurizer) because I loved the scent. Have a great day!

    I use dr bronner's for body wash, shampoo, and face wash (I use the unscented for this last one). I love it. Since my skin is sensitive to sulfates, it's a good true soap to use. I don't see a problem in using things like dawn dish soap to wash dishes, or laundry detergent, but those have limited to no contact to skin (especially if you wear dish gloves or use a dish brush while washing dishes). Sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates are really good for washing off oils. But they irritate my skin and can make my excema worse.

  • @amywellman9724
    @amywellman9724 7 лет назад +1

    Yes, I use Castile soap. It's gentle and does not irritate whatsoever. You can wash your entire body with it and wash your hair with it. Washing hair with it adds lots of volume.

    I shower with Dr. Bronner's, but don't use it on my face. The peppermint is very refreshing, and the baby one is good for sensitive skin. A good hair treatment is a mixture of olive oil and castor oil (about two thirds olive oil to one third castor oil). I rub it through all of my hair, put on a scarf, and let it soak in for two hours. Then I shower, washing my hair twice before conditioning. It is supposed to be good for hair growth, and my hair is very long now. I also put it on my eyelashes once a week.

    Caster oil is said to help/aid in hair growth whether it be you hair, eyelashes ect.. Also castor oil ingested will stimulate your intestine and you will be running to the rest room lol My first introduction to castor oil was when i was pregnant and very close to my delivery date, i was told that taking it could help stimulate contractions & bring on labor.

    What is your opinion on using essential oils for acne scars (rose hip oil) and to prevent acne (tea tree oil)? I've seen a lot of videos saying that they do wonders! Love your videos! ❤

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +5

      Tea tree oil can help the inflammatory lesions of acne (but can also cause irritant and allergic contact dermatitis) but no essential oil can treat an acne scar.

      Carly Gains : That's an interesting reply from Dr Gray because rosehip oil really helped me in terms of calming down my cystic acne, balancing out my oily-combination skin and fading off my dark spot. Of course it takes time because it's an organic oil but ya :)

    Hi! You mentioned putting your moisturizer on top of still wet skin which makes perfect sense but the question I have is about layering products. I use several serums and moisturizer as a last step. So where does the wet/damp skin work in this process?
    Thanks!!!!

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +2

      I dont put that much stuff on, so im not entirely sure, but by moisturizing a wet face and allowing it to dry before applying things with active ingredients in them, it helps the skin take up the active ingredients better.

    I'm currently using the Citrus Dr. Bronners soap (half dilluted with water) on my closed comedones and follow it up with this burts bees toner that is more moisturizing and I haven't seen a new closed comedone pop up since. I get that really deep under the skin acne on my chin from hormones though. (the painful bumps)

    Dr Broker's is regular liquid soap, ie saponified vegetable oils. It lathers a lot because it has a lot of coconut oil which is very cleansing. For this reason it is not ideal for babies. However if the other ingredients are natural it should be good for people who have healthy skin that can readjust its pH quickly just like any other real soap.

    I was wondering if you could give us your opinion on taking a steam sauna. I have recently been told it would be good for my asthma and as well as my skin. If you think it's a good thing how often would you recommend it for skincare and what would be your recommended "after steam" skin care routine? I am also looking forward to your video on Differin for aging skin. I bought some last week and will begin using it soon. Thank you for all your help and have a wonderful day.

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +2

      I don't recommend steam to the skin as this causes vasodilation and worsening of any underlying rosacea. Despite claims of "detoxifying and cleansing pores" this really is not the case for skin. I address your question about differin and "aging" skin on this week's q&a, so stay tuned.

    Thank you for touching on the PH of facial soaps. I'm am a little confused on what is a happy medium for facial soap PH level--is anything from 5.5-6.5 okay? I believe CeraVe Hydrating Facial Wash is right around 5.5 but there is just something in there that my skin does not like. I moved to Vanicream Gentle Face Wash which is a soap free minimal ingredient gentle face wash with a PH of 6.5 and my skin has been very happy with it--but I don't want to trade in one problem only to create another.

    Hi dr Dray! I am having trouble with finding the right cleanser for acne-prone skin.
    I have a couple of acne right now beacause of a korean cleanser that I tried.
    As much as I want to try the Neutrogena oil free acne wash, I can't find it here in the Philippines :(
    Could you please tell me if these ingredients are safe for a cleanser?
    Ingredients:
    Water (Aqua), Sea water (Maris Aqua), Propylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Ethoxydiglycol, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Salicylic Acid, Maltooligosyl Glucoside, Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hydroxide, Caprylyl Glycol, Chlorphenesin, Disodium EDTA, Aloe barbadensis Leaf Juice, Maltodextrin, 1,10-Decanediol, 10-Hydroxydecanoic Acid, Sebacic Acid
    THANK YOU SO MUCH! God bless you!!!

    Yes, I bathe with it. You can wash your hair with it too and your face. I picked up Neutrogena face wash with the salicylic acid in it to use in the shower.

    Nice video ! I’m trying to switch to more natural skincare because all these chemicals and paragons can’t be good for our health . My skin is super sensitive and I’ve been using cetaphil soap forever . Would Switching to dr bronners as a face soap be a bad move ? It’s the tea tree one and I’ve never tried tea tree and have sensitive skin but i just really want to try some natural things ! Tysm for ur help

      I have sensitive skin as well, and do not recommend using straight castile soap. Instead, I started making my own face wash using 1/3 cup Dr Bronners castile soap, 1 cup purified water, 2 tablespoons of raw honey (to lower ph and unsaponify the soap) and 2 tablesoons of any oil (I use olive oil, but some people don't like that.) It takes about an hour for the honey and soap to mix, and I find that it definitely helps make the soap more gentle. If I use more than 1/3 cup, it always burns my face. Maybe if your skin is super sensitive, only use 1/4 cup of soap in the recipe, and if your skin is dry, do 3 Tbsp of oil instead.

    Hey Dr. D. I'm going through your videos in search of a remedy for my blackheads.. if you haven't made any yet, please do. Also, just by the way.. since I've started following you since a week now, I know exactly what to look for at the drugstore and cosmetic department. I live in Karachi, Pakistan and we don't have CeraVe. And the Neutrogena sheer dry touch was out of stock but I went through the ingredients on the back of the Sunscreen and picked a 50gm one that had titanium dioxide 0.50% and 0.75% zinc oxide. That's the best part about your channel.. the information about the important active ingredients and how they'll benefit us.

    I've been doing the double cleanse method for about a year and I really like it. I use Albolene, which is sold at most drugstores. It has the consistency of Vaseline. I take a warm washcloth to wipe it off then follow with my cleanser and the rest of my nightly skincare routine. I don't wear heavy makeup but I do wear Bare Minerals powder and waterproof mascara. I find the Albolene eliminated the need for a separate eye makeup remover.

    I've been using 2% salicylic acid everyday and it doesnt keep me from breaking out. I haven't found a single body lotion I can use, the best I can do Is use Aloe vera gel so far.
    Im thinking of switching from salycilic acid to Glycolic acid and see if thats better, or just switch to using differin and benzoyl peroxide.

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +5

      Cool to hear about the aloe vera being helpful. It actually has been shown to contain naturally occuring salicylic acid, as well as a few other compounds that may be anti-inflammatory. It has been shown to be helpful for patients with psoriasis, but no one has looked into it for acne. Makes sense though that it might help there too. Thanks for sharing!

I had 2 people mention that my skin seemed lighter and I did not look tired. I am counting that as a quantification of the glow factor.
