      Are alcohol based toners good for oily ance prone skin? I have a oily breakout skin. And I'm now using clean and clear oil-control toner.

    • @preetidas9511
      @preetidas9511 5 лет назад +2

      @@yeemonoo6320 No they're not! Dr. Dray advices to stay away from them as they dry the skin further and as a result your skin produces even more oil. Dr. Dray advices to quit toners. If you don't want to quit toners then look for alcohol free ones which are loaded with humectants and obviously FRAGRANCE FREE. Korean brands have many alcohol free hydrating toners but pay a lot of attention to the ingredient list as many of them contain fragrance. Also there are some good moisturizing fatty alcohols like cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol etc. Alcohols to avoid at all costs are Alcohol denat (ethanol), isopropyl alcohol and when ingredient list simply states "alcohol". You can take help of Google for more info.

    Started watching Dr. Dray a month ago, IT'S LIKE I WENT TO SCHOOL! I threw out my old ineffective, fragranced, problematic and EXPENSIVE skin care, took only products recommended on her channel, started using sunscreen religiously for the first time in my life.....and other than doing my brows with a pencil, mascara and concealer, I've been make up free. My skin is plumping up, clearing and glowing. Plus, I started working out again. May God bless this woman.

    Sadly, about 20 years ago I went to see a dermatologist for breakouts He glanced at me and said ‘stop using hairspray and makeup ‘ and walked out of the room. I was terrified and complied for years Nothing improved I am sorry to say, and I lived in terror that anything I put on would cause a problem. It’s great there is the internet and people like you nowadays to help people understand more thoroughly.

    You are always so generous with so much information! I will have my two teenage granddaughters watch this for sure. I no longer have acne but I’m beginning to realize that my skin actually looks better loosing the foundation and powder because now all it does is to accentuate my fine lines that I have traded for acne. 😳. So true about makeup, especially foundation! I stopped using foundation when I started seeing my dermatologist and once my acne cleared up, it started looking better than when I wore foundation. I used to have hormonal acne in my 20s, on extremely dry skin. My dermatologist had the medicine (antibiotics) made in a thick moisturizing cream so that it wouldn't dry out my skin, this was when we were still figuring out whether it was hormonal or not. It was, and a low birth control pill first lessened it, then made it go away completely; it took several months though. Patience really is key.

    I agree simple is better ...but cystic acne is terrible...i don't wear makeup or put anything on my face besides cleanser...and moisturizer. Can you make a separate video on cystic acne? I don't have major breakouts but the cystic bumps 1 to 2 a month is hard to deal with...so self conscious

      Here’s how I cured mine. I took zinc daily for a month. Then I had too much, but it helped a ton. I take probiotics & DIM (this helped me sooo much bc mine is hormonal only. I have super dry skin)
      Mix 1 tsp sea salt w 1/2 cup bottle water. I apply w cotton ball & leave on face for at least 10 min. Cleanse w vanicream bar, moisturize w cerave lotion.
      What helped my daughter w oily skin is following same routine as me, she uses clean & clear persa-gel 10 on her trouble areas every night.

    • @Jezebel066
      @Jezebel066 5 лет назад

      Oh! And try removing makeup or sunscreen w hemp seed oil! It’s great for acne.

      Nayleen Fonseca my heart goes out to you. I had cystic acne in my teens and early 20s and again in perimenopause. The only thing that helped was Retin-A, prescribed by the dermatologist. My face got worse before it got better but after 3-4 months it cleared. It was crazy expensive though. If you absolutely cannot afford a dermatologist, or pricey prescriptions, Differin gel (a retinoin) is available over the counter, $15 for a small Tube. Best of luck!

    • @TheAlexa6
      @TheAlexa6 5 лет назад +4

      Jessica Galyon I have also had great success with the combination of zinc supplements, DIM and probiotics for my hormonal acne! (Also cutting out dairy and sugar.) I don’t have dry skin like you, mine is an oil field and until my mid-30’s I never had a cyst but had lots of closed comedones. CC from age 11-20’s until I got that cleared, had a few good years and then the hormonal acne set in. Fun times. The cystic acne is so much worse!!
      Anyway, always cool to see someone who has had success with a similar protocol! Your daughter is lucky to have you guiding her! Never heard of the salt solution but will read into it - thanks!

    So true about the makeup 🙏 I stopped and it changed my whole view of myself. I was so insecure and hated every bit of myself. When I stopped I began to love myself and accept my "flaws" and I felt 1000000x better. I where makeup only on special occasions now, and I'm so thankful for this. I highly recommend giving this a go. 💖 You're all much more beautiful than you may think. It's easy to see our own "flaws."

    Excellent information and tips. I agree with your points with the exception that an "exceedingly ripe" (practically popping out of your skin) blemish core can be carefully extracted without spreading the infection, cross contamination, scarring and so on, IF done correctly in a sterile situation. However, there are certain deep or "blind" blemishes that should never be touched, squeezed or picked. Hands off your face is the best advice, hands down.

    I totally agree with you Dr. Dray even since I stop my daily make up masking routine almost 8 years ago I discovered the freedom of not wearing a mask every day as well as my real glowing beauty on my own skin, most of my friends ask me why you look so glowing and your cheeks and lips are so rosy my answer is always I dont wear heavy make up every single day...oh I even wear SPF while I'm inside my house to is my every day. They dont believe me most of the times they think I'm wearing foundation on lipstick and blush but I'm not.... Also I'm so happy I found a truly gold fountain of wisdom in your chanel...

    My skin got so much better after I stopped daily makeup. Only when I go out, at most 1 time a week. It’s (strangely) made me feel so much better about myself (acne cleared up crazy quickly) and has saved me lots of time in the AM and money. And I was one who wore makeup all day everyday. I still love it, but so much more now that I do it only when I want to and feel creative (no more “I have to get ready” stress). Now I’m just trying to get rid of tiny bumps, texture, and acne scars, and the progress is addicting which makes the routine (which is not that extensive) easy to follow.

    I started wearing makeup and doing 1 million layers of skincare since 18, my skin looked good for a while before it started to break the hell out. Started reducing all of them 2 years later now i'm 23 and I have to thank myself for that. Thank you Dr. Dray for addressing these, I feel like not many people out there are aware that cosmetics and most of skincare products are in the end still chemical and the more you put on your face, the more risky and problematic the situation becomes. Also, listen to her and stop using all those automatic cleansing brushes people. Our face is not a car 🙄🙄

Thanks again and I’m wishing you and your Mom a very Merry Christmas.

    I went makeup free at my work last June. It's daunting at first since I was suffering from acne and acne scar, and I work at a doctor's office so I meet a lot of people in one day. I just have to believe that my decision is going to be beneficial to my skin care and grow thick skin. But it is liberating now and my skin feels light when I'm not wearing foundation. And so many people at work and regular patients have pull me aside and compliment on how well my skin looks now. Now I'm watching your video and I think it's a great and honest advice to cut off face makeup to prevent acne. Thanks Dr. Dray.

    Nowadays, I never wear make-up any more, just eye brow pencil and lipstick if any, and mascara on special occasions. Just a simple cleanser, eye gel and moisturiser - boom, clear skin.

    I used to never leave the house without makeup on because I hated my red dry skin. But since I've done a strict skincare routine and barely wear makeup unless it's a special occasion, my skin has never looked better!! I am confident in my skin without something covering it instead of treating and controlling the problem. Whenever I do wear a lot of eye makeup, usually the next day I am all inflamed around my eye area and red and flakey. I am very sensitive around my eyes.

    I just want to start by saying I love your channel. I just discovered it recently and have been obsessed. I have to say that the single thing that’s made the biggest difference for my acne is my Clarisonic! I’ve been on retin-a and clyndoxyl for years and had pretty good results, but have only noticed a drastic difference after using the Clarisonic. While there is some initial irritation to be expected when starting daily manual exfoliation, I think there’s something to be said about the effectiveness of combining manual and chemical exfoliants. A lot of chronic acne sufferers swear by the Clarisonic.

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад

      it can be problematic as over exfoliation predisposed to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

    Oh my gawsh Dr D! Ive been using the apricot scrub with my clarisonic brush every day- come to find out through binge watching your videos this is what has caused the intense comedonal acne (I thought I had a rash that meant I was dying of some underlying/undiagnosed health issue). Ive stopped using both and in only 4 days the rash is gone and my skin is clearing! You are awesome- thank you!

    CeraVe has a new facial SPF that is meant for oily/acne prone skin. It's called the Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen (SPF 30). I haven't tried it myself, but it seems like a good one to consider.

    I’ve been weaning myself off of makeup, except for my eyebrow pencil, mascara and lip gloss. The first week of keeping my face foundation and bronzer free it dramatically cleared up! This past weekend I wore a full face for date night with my husband and my face broke out. Lol. So yea... I might be done with it all together. Luckily, my husband says I don’t need it.

    Wish I'd watched this sooner. I just went out and got a non-foaming salicylic acid cleanser from neutrogena which does have fragrance in it, not realizing the CeraVe SA cleanser is non-foaming as well. Think I'm just going to switch to 100% CeraVe products once I run out of everything else since my skin seems to love them and they're the only ones without fragrance and with the ceramides and niacinamides my skin really loves.

My skin has been a little dryer but I know that’s one of the side effects. I will be purchasing the CeraVe moisturizer in the tub. ☝️ I currently use the Neutrogena hydro boost and moisturizer for sensitive skin. Thank you so much for all you do!!

    Great info - THANK YOU Dr. Dray ! BTW, regarding foundation makeup, when I was a teen I had absolutely terrible, painful, cystic acne, and certainly agree that makeup made it so much much worse. Unfortunately my sister sold Mary Kay which made foundation very accessible in my home, regardless of the fact that as a desperate and naive teenager I had no clue that it was not suited for my skin type/not at all kind to my acne-prone face as MK's earlier formulations along with just about every cosmetic company way back then contained pore-clogging- ingredients and no cosmetic lines as I recall were formulated/marketed as "noncomedogenic" (and quite frankly my pores never recovered to this day on one side of my face where I seemed to break out more and used the MK makeup to cover up what the makeup was probably exacerbating- but fortunately did not have much residual scarring; after acne flares subsided only mild atrophic scarring in some isolated spots but I was very careful not to touch my face/pick at anything and that probably played a role because I was very lucky not to get more scars). Certainly not singling out Mary Kay, because back then just about EVERY foundation on the market was absolutely the worst thing for acne. Then I found out Liquimat by Summers Lab through my aunt's recommendation. It helped a great deal along with using 2% salicylic acid wipes and benzoyl peroxide. It took some time but finally with the Liquimat I could feel comfortable in my own skin , eventually to the point where I stopped wearing even the Liquimat tinted coverup. I wish this happy ending never went away. I still had very oily skin and loved how clean my skin felt after using cleaners but not knowing many were stripping my skin. (Also regularly used the St. Ives Apricot scrub too.) Unfortunately in my 30s I had inherited a chronic inflammatory skin condition from my dad which especially manifested on my nose/square in the middle of my face so I had full-face scanned CO2 laser on my Fitzpatrick Type II skin but it left me hypopigmented /waxy pinkish uneven pigment in many areas of my face. Now I have to wear makeup again-- and never look natural because of waxiness with makeup trying to cover it, even yellow/green based makeup not helpful as little if any pigment is there in much of my face now and only waxy pink comes through on skin tone even with the makeup:-(

    I had severe acne and my dermatologist at the time told me to go on accutane. A month prior to the treatment, she put me on birth control and, within the month, I cleared up completely. Instead of noticing that I had hormonal issues, she still put me on Accutane which was terrible. At 35 yo my gynecologist told me to check my hormones and he was right! He prescribed the pill and I totally cleared up!

      @@yelenatsytsyn I don't really pick them in front of the mirror.. I do it while I'm watching TV or RUclips, completely subconscious think. I feel my face and anything I feel anything raised I pick. So hard to stop because not fully conscious of it. Think I do stand about 2ft away and bathroom light is pretty dim. Just need to break the habit of picking.

    I know this is an old video. Butttt.. I have hormonal acne that just will NOT quit. I got it under control and then I decided to have the Mirena IUD put in and I feel as though it is making it a lot worse. I’m almost 28. I think I may have the IUD removed after having it in for less than 1 year. I was told that I could try using a birth control pill in combination with the IUD but I do not want to be on 2 both controls. I usually am pretty sensitive to side effects to most pills or anything to do with hormones. I have had pretty consistent acne ever I started puberty and I’m all done at this point. I’m giving up diary, and also just started red light therapy for my face. I also get body acne and severe KP on my arms and backs of my thighs. I welcome comments from anyone who thinks they might able to help me. 😊

    I have found I don’t like the way foundation feels on my skin, I usually try to use a cc cream with spf. I do like the way makeup highlights my features. With that said though, I tend to only wear makeup 3-4 days a week and the other days just wear mascara and lip gloss and let my skin breath. I found getting my skincare under control and using the right products for my skin has made my skin look so much nicer, so I feel more confident going makeup less some days. I wear makeup for me and how I feel.
    When I was younger and up to a few years ago I used to use that apricot scrub every time I washed my face, and acne washes regularly. I didn’t realize that’s why my skin was so inflamed, I had no clue what I was suppose to use for my skin at that time. Also used to touch my face all the time.

    I am quite a different case. I never ever had break outs, no matter how I treated my skin, until age 41 (now). I never wore make up...ever! Now, I wear it to work, at the least, because I am trying to cover up what is (most likely) hormonal acne. I am clueless as to how to treat acne, never having had to deal with it in the slightest. I have much to learn... :(

    Yeh, my daughter had a weird occurrence. She went travelling and with summer, all of a sudden she had really bad breakouts and usually she doesn't break out this bad. It has taken us months to address this. So we tried to use Differin and in our case everything got worse. So now we've gone opposite with a super gentle cleanser until this all calms down. She has the problem of super sensitive skin on top of it so it's a balance.

    I have been battling with Rosacea and acne for the last 27 years. At 40, I still have huge painful pustules on my forehead and jawline and unsightly blackheads on my cheeks and nose. It has ruined my life. Can’t start accutane or birth control pills right now. All my friends have clear skin even though they use make up. I don’t use any makeup but I still have acne. They make fun of me when they see me obsessing about sunscreen reapplication and using umbrella. It stresses me out which worsens my acne and the vicious cycle never ends.
