    I freaking love that you said all natural products aren’t what they are cracked up to be. There is so much misinformation out there. Thanks for keeping it real!

    The terms "organic" and "natural" are vague at best and lack scientific backing, yet people treat these terms as such when they use the even more vague argument that all-natural does not have "chemicals". Well, having taken chemistry I can say that everything is a chemical so you can't use that term inherently as something negative.

      Super agreed. It's just false marketing. In fact, many essential oils can be sensitising to the skin. Some like lemon oil extract can actually cause photophytodermatoses, which in contact with the sun can cause a bad burn.

The hype over parabens has been in the forefront of my personal research for the last few years and I have switched SOOOOO many products because as a mom, I sure didn't want to have products that would cause my kids to have cancer. I am not sure why this issue became such a big deal~ unless it was great for the competitors to have Paraben free stuff and make a fortune there too! Dr Dray I’m so confused about Hyaluronic Acid now. My doctor who treats my skin says it’s not particularly useful topically and is more of an internal skin moisturizer. But Dr Dray, you’re a skin specialist, and she studied internal medicine, which (correct me if I’m wrong) is not a specialty, but a standard GP MD degree; correct? She just happened to start, own and operate a skin care/spa practice for whatever reason, and she’s good, I just trust the more educated specialist. So I’m going to tend to trust you more; but I do need to look thru your channel to find where you state the clinical trial data. For me, that’s the MOST important parts of your ingredient feature videos 😊👍🏻

    Thanks for a through explanation of moisturizing ingredients. My personal favorite still remains to be CeraVe moisturizing lotion. I think it's an ideal combination of occlusives, humectants, and emollients with added benefits of ceramides and cholesterols. Perfect for face and body both. Eucerin advanced repair body lotion is a close second simply because it's not suitable for face, less versatile than CeraVe.
    Can't wait for the Monday video. I'm pretty certain CeraVe and Eucerin will be in your list ;)

    Question I'm curious about : I've had chronic eczema my whole life which l treat with otc moisturizers and prescription corticosteroids for my flareups. Have had problems for the last 2 years with my finger tips and thumbs. It starts with deep crevice cuts on my thumbs, pointer and middle fingers and then progresses until the top layer of skin peels off leaving a very painful condition. The skin on my finger tips crack and peel down to first knuckle but the thumbs both peel down to the second knuckle (inside palm side only) I have had prescriptions of Clobetasol Propionate Cream (from primary doctor) and then, on advice of dermatologist, have used CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. Neither worked and I then tried several over the counter remedies (on advice of acquaintances) such as Eucerin, O'Keeffe's Working Hands, Bag Balm, Aloe, and many others. Everyone offering advice, of course, insisted their recommendation was the best thing in the world for curing my problem. Nothing has worked. I occasionally get 2 or 3 days of relief only to have the process start all over again. All ten finger nails are also noticeably extremely dry by sight and feeling and I'm wondering if this is indicative of a vitamin deficiency or something that I'm lacking.

    Excellent Q&A! I've been wanting this. Looks like the combo body moisturizers would be a great bet! Regarding the humectant tip specifically when using the hydro boost water gel... does this require an occlusive mousitizer on top in order for it to function properly? With out the occlusive moisturizer on top does that mean that you would have more TEWL? Thank you again! I love these videos! So fun but also educational!!'

    • @betsychickenlittle7560
      @betsychickenlittle7560 7 лет назад

      I just realized that the hydro boost water gel also has the occlusive agent dimethicone mixed in with the humectant HA .. so I guess that solves the problem as far as furthering TEWL when using HA alone?

    2 questions: are natural carrier oils such as avocado oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, etc. effective as moisturizers for dry skin on the body? Paula's Choice website has said that creams that are packaged in jars lose their effectiveness when exposed to the air. Is that true, and if so, one would then assume that a bottled product is better than a jar?

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +1

      the paula's choice website information is not correct with regards to jar packaging; natural oils, like shea/avocado/grapeseed/linseed are fine, but not any better (sometimes less robust actually) than a jar of thick drug store fragrance free cream

    What do you think of the presence of alcohol in skincare? A lot of brands seem to keep on that track while there is quite a lot of controversy around alcohol.

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +17

      This is not a problematic ingredient outside of toners which are sort of like putting rubbing alcohol on the skin and are too harsh. As an ingredeint in skin care it often is needed to stabilize active ingredients

    Than you so much for your expertise and review of everyday products. It has been so helpful when purchasing OTC products and not the expensive department stores.
    Q: have you or can you please do a review of the Lumene product line. (CVS and Walgreens) I’ve been using their facial moisturizers for day and night.
    Q: do we really need two different moisturizers for day and night?

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  6 лет назад

      you need sunscreen in the day time but not at night...a moisturizing "AM" sunscreen is the reason to have two bottles of moisturizer

    Hi! What do you think of a moisturizer that contains following ingredients: Aqua, decyl oleate, butylene glycol, cetearyl alcohol (and) cetaryl sulfate, PEG-6 stearate, Apricot Kernel oil PEG-6 esters, PEG-32 stearate, glycol stearate, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin ?
    And how about this one: Aqua, petrolatum, paraffinum liquidum, cetearyl alcohol, ceteareth-20, ceteareth-12, caprylyl glycol, sodium gluconate, phenoxyethanol?
    I hope you have time to answer :)

    I have just recently found your channel and so I apologize is you have answered this question or if you have a video on it, but wanted to ask about coconut oil. What is your opinion on it? It seems to work really well for me, but I wasn’t sure. I used it all over my body including my face. It is just 100 % coconut oil (Shea Moisture brand from Walmart). Thanks so much. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

    Hi dr.dray! Thank you so much for the information. I find it very helpful in choosing what's best for the skin. A lot of the tips you mentioned really help me in managing my dry skin. I recently tried the cerave moisturizing cream on my body and my face. However, after the application my face becomes drier and the skin on my body has somewhat like light brown patches that i never have it before. This is the first time im trying moisturizer with ceramide in it. Is it normal to have such reaction? I'm confuse 🤔
    By the way, your videos are really great and i enjoyed watching them especially your sarcasm. Haha 😅 Keep it up! 😊💕💕💕

    Thanks to you Dr Dray, I've discovered coconut oil is useful as a cleanser. I had some that I was going to use on my body but it doesn't sink into my skin. It is brilliant for removing makeup and sunscreen though! Sorry, mineral oil is horrible for my skin. I use a sorbolene cream for removing makeup with mineral oil in it but my skin breaks out with mineral oil, even at 50!

    I enjoyed this video a lot. I'm so tired of the paraben, mineral oil, petrolatum & talc phobia! The same people forget that talc & parabens are in your everyday medicines. What's take on phenoxyethanol? I read the EU guideline, ever since I don't buy products that have phenoxyethanol high up in the ingredients list.

    Is this true -> Another major dermatologist on RUclips said if you use a moisturizer, particularly oil, that doesn’t have other beneficial ingredients which promote collagen synthesis (like retinol), that moisturizers decrease your body’s own production of moisture such as sebum?
