When I was a high school student back in the 1970's, no teacher would ever dare to have such a closeness with his/her students. No teacher was called by his or her first name, like Robbie Donavan!
All these uptight people worried about it being politically incorrect. It was a loose and casual time....not uptight. Take it face-value....it was funny and it was cool that Bill appeared on this cool little show.
A teacher can like certain students within limits, but proper distance MUST be kept. That aside from other things will keep the students respecting the teacher. If I were Muffy's teacher, G-d forbid, I'd put her in her place. And if that did not work, I would threaten her with suspension!
I noticed that Mr.Mcmeltie does not look at Patty when he addresses her in class about cruelty. That's wrong! Then on the hall, he's completely crazy! I did NOT like this episode!😮😢😢
I am a teacher. Mr. Mcmeltie eas aSHAME to the teaching profession. In a lesser sense, so is Robbie! Students do NOT call yeachers by their first names!!! And he should not allude to his past hippie/drug days!! Miss Loomis should not bring her woes about being single into the classroom and flirt with the janitor in class. And Muffy should NOT be taking over for teachers or principle.!!!!😮😢
My education professor in college spent most of each class bad mouthing his ex-wife and talking about his divorce. He’s the one that taught me how to be a teacher. I’ll take Bill Murray.

THIS EPISODE WAS ABSOLUTELY INSANE! "OK CHOCOLATE LADY DO YOUR THING TO ME"!!!! BILL!!!!
IKR 😮
When people could be unapologetic for being human!
When language Nazis were still gesticulating and not fully in place.
What a different era
4:01 Slash is reading a “Defenders” comic… 👍
Issue #73.
"Okay, chocolate lady, do your thing to me." Things you no longer can say on television.
My favourite sitcom.

Whoa!
Odd, I thought the opening song had words to it: “Square Pegs, Square Pegs! Square-Pegs-Square!”
Same thoughts!
It does. This was the syndicated version. The theme played on the original airing.

Closing
I would've told Muffy to stuff it at the end, with the way she treated Murray's substitute teacher.
Woo, this must've been one of the episodes that was not allowed on TV. I love Bill Murray tho...
No, this aired. I saw it back when it was in first run.

Have these been restored?
Green Fish
Kind of a comedic Degrassi Jr high .
Nope. Degrassi was just an unfunny Square Pegs.
In the same way, Saved by the Bell is kind of a comedic Beverly Hills 90210.

Are you looking sideways at the substitute teacher too?
Carl Spackler
strange
Very odd.
Look who’s talking

That’s because he picked a bunch of other people who were going to be single.
