- HOW TO GET BETTER AT BJJ FAST - TIPS AND METHODS TO RAPIDLY IMPROVE YOUR JIU-JITSU
In this video I cover my top 3 strategies and methods to improving your BJJ faster. There are many important details and examples I go over throughout the video so be sure to pay close attention so you don't miss anything you might find valuable. In my training I make sure to show up as frequently and as consistently as I could especially on the road to ADCC. I also make sure to have an intention when I enter the training room when I am looking to improve certain aspects of my game (more about that in the video). Finally, I cover the importance of studying bjj off the mats. There are many ways to study jiu-jitsu to personalize your approach to improving your bjj game. I hope you all find this video useful and let me know if you have any questions or thoughts in the comment section below and I'll be happy to answer them for you!

Well 💩 Sunday 2 hour session is the only one I can make to my work Schedule. I guess 2 and 3 are my only hope!
This is a gem, I am rewatching this video already. Thank you Giancarlo!
My pleasure!
Thanks for this, Giancarlo.
man, keep these up, probably the best breakdown ive seen on youtube
Great video! Thanks for posting.
Great content Giancarlo.
Thanks G appreciate the context and advice 😎😤🤗👊
awesome work!! thanks
Great info! And also the way you bring it.
Amazing stuff Giancarlo! Thank you for making this. Keep up the great content
This was the exact thing I wanted to ask you next time in class. Great video!!
This type of down-to-earth content is so much needed. Thanks for the effort and energy.
Amazing my friend !!!
I was fortunate enough to attend one of your seminars last fall, it was an absolute blast. You're a very talented instructor and I'll definitely be looking forward to more uploads. This is almost exactly how I approach my training. I've always felt that training with a specific purpose was the most important factor. I even have short and long term timelines already laid out, much like you described, with my ultimate goal of becoming skilled enough to win trials, qualify for ADCC, and earn a chance to compete among the best in the world. Eventually I'll make my way out to New Wave and hopefully get the opportunity to train with you some day. Until then I'll be following and studying all of your content. Right now my primary focus is on guard passing so any videos on how to overwhelm and exhaust your opponent from top position would be greatly appreciated! I wish you the best of luck in growing your channel and on your upcoming title match with Marinho.
Awesome video 🔥
Thank you Giancarlo for sharing your experience and knowledge! This is golden information!
I appreciate the insight! Looking forward to your next instructional.
Giancarlo, thank you so much putting this content up; It's amazing that we can all sit at home and get advice from a World Champion!
Really excited to see what direction you take your youtube channel. I always love to see combat sports athletes branching out and creating there own content
This was really helpful. Thank you!
Really been enjoying your channel lately thanks. you such a nice guy and such an absolute beast on the mat.
Thanks for the advice
Very structured and applicable information from the champ. Thank you
I appreciate your honesty and openness about your training mindset and progress.
Brilliant video, no fluff, sales gimmicks or going off topic. Your channel is a hidden gem
this is great! thanks
Very informative and organized - you are a great teacher too!
I love that you said to record your rolls. I’m a 3 stripe purple belt and saw a great difference in my development once I started recording and reviewing my rolls. Thanks for the vid. Loving the advice from a top level grappler.
This was brilliant
Solid advice 🤙🏻
Bro this is awesome
Thank you for laying this out 👍🏽 especially the timeline piece on short and long term goals (broad) that makes more sense to me and gives me a direction to aim
Its amazing that someone at the top level will share this iformation freely. Will definately be taking on all 3 of Giancarlo's tips so big thanks to him 🙏 I liked what he said about RUclips and being careful about what you watch, there is so much info out there. Lately i have been limiting to myself to only Danaher ( or his team, especially Gordon Ryan) , Chewjitsu, Jordan teaches Jiu-jitsu, Lachlan Giles, Marcelo Garcia and obviously pretty much anything from Bernardo. Sounds like a lot but previously i was all over the place going down rabbit holes of useless information.
Giancarlo, bro, please keep making videos about jiu-jitsu. I found your channel before your excellent victory at ADCC and for me it was obvious, that you really understood a thing of two in BJJ. You are a great fighter and a blessed teacher
It's also really useful to hear about what you found frustrating, very relatable.
Excellent video 👍
A quick note to add for instructionals…I’ve found a TON of excellent older wrestling instructionals on RUclips from top tier coaches and competitors. A lot of the kids wrestling seminars are really good for us jiujitsu people since our wrestling skills are pretty rudimentary. This is also wrestling beyond the idea of takedowns such as wrestling from the bottom or from failed shots. You do have to make considerations of how it applies with submissions existing but still it’s cool to check out.
Like I’ve been exploring double over hooks lately since it’s helped me combat body locks and attack in butterfly guard and now I’m exploring them from standing too. Only decent resource I’ve found for it is RUclips wrestling.
Any specific channels you'd recommend?
Great stuff! Got a bit curious about the complex stuff you mentioned early on the video, maybe you could talk about it later in the future
Great video. Especially your personal anecdotes about intention-setting re: specific techniques, and how you didn't realize the "gains" until the after those periods.
Thanks Professor. 🙏
nice thanks for sharing dude your adcc run was awesome to watch
Have to say that your topics are so smart really enjoy this content !
Thanks for this. Fellow Bostonian here 🤙. Wishing you continued success bro, ADCC was incredible!
Awesome content
Absolutely great video, started doing this method with a colleague and it’s working .
great video! thanks for the tips!
No problem!
Good stuff brother 👍
These are some incredible tips! Thanks, Giancarlo!
Glad they were helpful
Also, I like the new and improved thumbnail design. You’re putting in work to your channel and will be rewarded for it down the line. I think building personal audiences on social media is the ‘New Wave’ for athletes, particularly in JJ. One tip: don’t repeat yourself in title and thumbnail. Provide relevant but different information in each that complement one another and opens up a curiosity loop that your video will eventually close. Keep it up GB.
Thanks glad you’re enjoying
great video
Man your channel is pretty Awesome !!!
Thank you so much 👍
Mr Bodoni you are a great teacher. Thanks! Some friendly feedback: Something that will help your channel is better lighting and sound equipment. Also, by upping the variation in intonation you will attract and retain viewers and will be more on par with other creators.
Youre a good teacher, champ. Looking forward to you opening your own gym one day.
Maybe one day!
Just wanted to leave some feedback and appreciation. Thanks for the content, keep it up!
Nice!
This is great advice this will help me alott thanks
Thanks for your time! Where did you get the shirt - love it!
Thank you
Nice episode today on Bjj fanatics.
Good luck this Saturday at WNO man! Ill be there rooting for ya.
This was perfect timing. I've been trying to narrow down a strategy. I'm ranked as a brown belt. I find myself moving forward without truly understanding the depth of certain positions. I train in each technique on the day of training, but to reach an advantageous position, rarely landing submissions. Settling for body control, i.e., body lock to pass. Thank you for information this will be a very useful tool.
Well said. I am in the same boat as you. Glad it's not just me.
@KPisOnTheMic most people just give belts out like it’s a candy shop … I guarantee you I would sub this “brown belt” within 5 minutes
Most schools are horrible ❤
Great stuff here thanks for the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@giancarlobodonibjj the arm drag + foot sweep you showed on the fanatics channel also worked like a charm for me yesterday
Great content as usual, i would really love if you did a foot sweeps/standing instructional, i have your chest on back in front of the elbows and i really love the standing portion
I will try to film it this year.
I am not sure if you have made a video like this recently but I would love to see a video of your daily schedule or weekly training schedule. I struggle a lot with recovering properly after training and weightlifting. I would be interested in your opinion on what you do for recovery especially aside from proper nutrition
You seem like a solid and allround reflected guy.
acabei de achar meu canal de vídeos de jiu jitsu favorito. É incrível como poucas pessoas falam sobre como aprender jiu jitsu de verdade. um salve do Brasil, sou seu fã.
Thank you GB! What is your stance on live positional drilling?
His story of progress is incredible. If anyone is to teach this subject, it's Giancarlo.
Hi Giancarlo, thank you for the insights.
Do you suggest to choose between focusing on specific move OR broader topic, or you can do both at the same time?
For example: I focus on guard retention for 3 weeks AND at the same time in week 1 I focus on triangles, week 2 armbars, week 3 RNCs.
Or it's better to just focus on one and don't mix broad with specific?
I want to see significant improvement in my guard passing… 🤞
Good, I show up everyday, and been working on Open guards for the past 2 months, and hoping to continue for the next 2 years.
Guard retention > k-guard > DLR > RDLR > shallow K > Brimbolo > Situp guard > Repeat
Do you think this is achievable?
For study, I do study Submeta (from Lachlan Giles)
These are all great points, but one thing that hobbiest should know is that when he says a week for him that's essentially a month for us. Maybe even longer depending on how much time is allocated to rolling and drilling what you want to drill rather than what ur instructor tells u to drill

Review tape and fix mistakes that were made. Never letting loses weight you down!!
🙌
What level do you have to be for John to let you train in New wave?
Hello, for example if my teacher shows how to pass the half guard , should I watch an instructional on the passing half guard in addition, to have as much choice as possible ?
Hey Giancarlo.
I watched your documentary on flograppling the other day.
Your sharp and sudden progress seemed to come from believing in yourself and switching to a world class team.
Do you think Belief and Team are also massively important?
How would you suggest to add in take downs/Judo without taking out time from Jiu Jitsu? I've added in Judo for 30-45 minutes during open mat after class after getting all my rolls in. I've thought about going 2 days BJJ/ 2 days Judo. 44 years old. Two year Blue belt. Non competitor.
PEDs, EPO and Danaher
When an ADCC champ or competitor speaks Jitsu i listen
3:15 it finally happened. You adopted the Danaher voice. Don't worry, man. Happens to all of you guys eventually.
The key to being good at jiujitsu is have a strong well trained body the cognitive ability to make good tactical decisions quickly
Some of us are just better suited for this than other
All those white and blue belts that quit would stick with it if they could but they're just not built for it
Step 1. Join New Wave
Step 2. Look at step 1
Good video. But cut up like cocaine. They’re cutting it after every sentence. Annoying.
Step 1. Leave Lepri
Step 2. Join Danaher
Step 3. Steroids
ZzzZzzzzZzzzzzz 😴 💤
