I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and dedication. My husband & I were in Paris in September and stopped by A. Lacroix Pâtissier (from one of your videos). Everything was wonderful. Too bad, we only had a day and a half. Merci.
La Bourse et La Vie is one of Chef Daniel Rose's restaurants. He is one of the most inventive, amazing chefs ever ~ very creative, but also kind, generous and humble. He mostly lives in NYC now where he has a Michelin Star restaurant in Manhattan called Le CouCou. His original restaurant was a tiny place in the 9th called Spring and remains one of my favourite Parisian restaurants ever. Thanks for a great video!

I really enjoyed this video because we love steak frites. Will definitely try La Bourse et La Vie next time we come to Paris because the steak frites looks really delicious but the oeuf mayonnaise, the poireaux vinaigrette and the desert too. Thanks The Frenchies.
I dare say you sat at the very table I had at Paul Bert this past June! I think we were the only Americans in the place. Now I have to come back to try all the rest on this great list!! Thanks!!!
I love your videos and can't wait for my next visit. Can you go back to bold black lettering on your bills please. They were difficult to read this time 😮 Merci bien!!❤❤ 😘
Coming from the US, I never thought Paris would be so "steak friendly". As a carnivore, I was very pleased with the 4 bistros I ordered steak (with or without frites). Including Le Relais de l'Entrecote in PSG. Insert drooling Homer Simpson face...🤤
Love Le Frenchies! Have you eaten steak frites at Le Velais de Venise? All they serve is steak frites with a line of locals that goes up the street. They have some desserts but the star is the steak, you get two servings! Wonderful
I shared the Cote de Boef with my friend at Bistro Paul Bert. Absolutely delicious. The Paris Brest for dessert was so huge I couldn’t finish it and I’m no fool when it comes to cream cakes! Lovely place.
Thanks for the recommendations! I atully came across both of you while in Paris for the French Open last spring, and I saw you again on the roof top of Galeries Lafayette rooftop last week while in town for the Paris Rolex Masters tournament heck of a coincidence!

Salut Antoine and Colleen! Thanks for the steak frites tour! I took notes for our next time my wife and I will be in Paris. Steak Frites was the first dinner we had on our honeymoon trip to Paris on July 9, 2007 at Brasserie Le Victory, and it was awesome! Bonne soirée from Montréal, QC!
Good video. La Bourse et La Vie will be on my list for next trip. But I have one big, major, huge suggestion: Discuss or mention the wine you are drinking! You are paying well for the wine, so make sure you tell us what it is! Thanks
You had me at sorbet framboise!! What can I say about la Bourse et la Vie - our very first trip, outside of North America, in 2007, staying in a tiny little apartment nearby on Rue Vivienne - jet-lagged after almost 24 hours of travel day from the west coast of Canada. Tired, anxious, excited, and hungry we wandered out to find something to eat at about 6PM and found this, looked good - ordered the seafood appetizer, and it arrived at the table with all the raw seafood offerings (first surprise of the evening) - hubby was a bit squeamish, and only tried a few, I thoroughly enjoyed the rest. I can't remember what else we had that night, probably French onion soup, a steak, and a fish dish, (had my first taste of Normandy butter, real butter like we used to make when I was a kid) but it was all good, including the $60 bottle of wine (second surprise of the evening) we unknowingly ordered. I could speak a bit of rudimentary French, but nothing satisfactory enough to truly understand what was being said. Hubby still talks about it today, not so much the wine (which was very good) but the cost of it. One of the most memorable meals I have ever had!! As well as the most expensive.
I don't think it was run by the same team that runs it today. Not saying it wasn't good, but Daniel Rose only had 1 restaurant in Paris in 2007 and that was Spring in the 9th. He didn't take over La Bourse et La Vie until 2015 or 2016. :)
We were in Washington DC last week and I found a small Cajun restaurant which had some of the best oysters I've ever had. We did On-The-Half Shell, Oysters Rockefeller, Oysters Bienville and another one, which was their creation. It was amazing. I'm still partial to American cocktail sauce over the vinegar based sauce in Europe.
@LesFrenchiesTravel Probably all of them eventually since I'm here for a few years. But, Le Relais de l'Entrecôte is pretty convenient for lunch from work so I'll probably start there.
@lesfrenchiestravel Your videos are wonderful. Would you please make a video showing us how to shop in a fresh market in a French town? How to greet, how to ask for something, common phrases and etiquette? I would like to be able to buy meat and cheese but it looks so intimidating. Thank you
Great video Antoine and Colleen - informative and entertaining. One question, how do you ask for your steak to be cooked? Does it depend on the cut? When in France, I would always lean towards 'a point' as it will often be cooked (UK) medium-rare, maybe even rare. There seemed to be a range of 'doneness' with the steaks shown in the video
I have been watching your show for quite a while. In May, I am going to be coming to France to visit Bordeaux, but will spend the night or two at the beginning in the end in Paris. I will be going to one of my favorite places la grange au canard in. The st Germaine area. They have an amazing salad with goose liver pate and duck confit.m
I’m back to Austin Texas and something that made my trip sound was taking Uber . By all means , if you can afford an Uber in America , do it in Paris . I didn’t want to have the stress about those pickpockets in the metro .I stayed in Montmartre and I knew how far places were and from €9-18 ride wasn’t bad at all . I didn’t have any specific restaurant but I came across some historical ones . People in South of France and Paris were adorable with me . Just the open minded. I made friends , had people buy me a round of beers .I left two watches in the hotel in Nice and the staff shipped them overnight to my hotel in Montmartre. I saw a pickpocket in the train to Monaco and he stole a phone .I ate all kinds of cuisines including lunch at Le Consulat and gazing to the crowd. I’ll be back next year . Claudia . Austin Texas
I’ve been to all the places you mention except La Bourse and it is now on my wish list. It looked excellent. Thanks for the suggestion. It may not matter but Paul Bert is not in Le Marais.
Thanks for doing this, staying at Crystal Hotel in PSG in late November and see that Le Relais de L’Entrecôte is just next door 😎 🥩 🍷 and on same block as Cafe De Flore and Les Deux Magots
The Relais de l'entrecote is actually a copy cat chain (and there are multiple others in many towns, including Stockholm). The original version is the Relais de Venise at Porte Maillot and you should try that one because they are the one with the "secret sauce" and it doesn't look like the one you were served because...it's not the secret sauce !! Lazare is a wonderful place that I had forgotten about and I need to go back. I also highly recommend their cookbook (Lazare by Eric Fréchon).
Hello Antoine and Colleen! Do you know if any of these 5 restaurants fry their frites in beef fat? I'm coming to Paris in April with my cousin for 10 days, her first trip, my 4th!
I was in Paris the last 6 weeks and I ate at a half dozen restaurants (including a couple recommended by Les Frenchies) when they brought the card machine to pay for the meal they ask "Do you want to put the tip on the card" I was a little shocked the first time it happened and added a tip. (I always left a few euro tip at meals because the waiters always accommodated my terrible French or simply ask me in English) Then it happened several more times. I have to admit that the restaurants were usually filled with non French (American and lots of Japanese for some reason). I just wondered if French speaking patrons at those restaurants would also be ask about leaving a tip?
It's not manditory, but they can try? Especially since there is almost nó cash anymore. And yes, I speak French and they also ask me. But you're not obliged to do it. I find it more "friendly" than the 20% extra in the UK - which is legally nót manditory - for which they dón't ask permission!!
They would get an earful from a Parisian. It's uncalled for and they take advantage of tourists that way. That would be a guaranteed no tip from me if they asked.
It's uncalled for if you pay by cash (as you'll probably leave the change instead of an American style tip) but rather common, even for a French speaker if you pay by card. It's not compulsory, they have a living wage but rounding up is considered good manners if the service was good. Instead of "base pay" like in the US, think of it as a small bonus, for good service. It used to be common because people used not to want to have a pound of coins in their pockets so they left the change, but with cards and no contact payment they might remind you that you can still round up if you're happy with the service. Basically, in France there is already a 12.5% service charge (usually). So adjust accordingly. If you think it was worth 15% or 20% because of the experience, you can add some to the bill.
@@LesFrenchiesTravel No you will not look like glutons 😜 The second helping is actually a part of your meal which is divided into servings. I guess to keep it warm :)
I have been to le relais de l’entrecote, nice to see you try it. The line goes fast. I love steak, thanks for the other recommendations! I want to try them all!
Had 2 dinners at Entrecote in Bordeaux....good value and the sauce is rich and addictive which compliments the lean cut of beef Can you do Dover Sole…the one I had by the late Robuchon is one of those experiences that stays with u
Thank you for making great videos, especially the great food of Paris. I will be travelling to Paris soon. I feel confident going to the restaurants you tried and recommended. It is saving us viewers lots of time and money.
Where did you live when you were in USA? I ask cause you said you never had oysters like that in the US. Coastal USA (especially Southern California) and NYC have amazing oysters due to proximity to where they are farmed and overall freshness. I’m wondering if you maybe didn’t have the chance to have good oysters? I had a lot of oysters in Paris and the best ones were still maybe slightly below an average one in LA :(
Miam ! Les plats s’enchaînent. Je suis prêt à manger les steak-frites et le baba au rhum. Now they talk about Lyon. That is pretty cool. I should get out more to go to the restaurant. À la place, je préfère commander sur Uber jusque chez moi. Mais je vais peut-être tenter leur restaurant.
We went to relais on our recent trip and it was amazing and well priced. But after this video I may have added more steak frites locations on our google map.
Ok, now there are even more steak/frites places to try when next I make the trip from Nice to Paris. For now, my favorite steak/frites is the Brasserie Le Paris in Vesinet-le-Pecq. If you decide to visit the palace birthplace of Louis XIV in Saint-Germain-en Laye, stop off at Vesinet-le-Pecq on your way. (Next to last RER stop on way to St-Germain-en-Laye)
@@LesFrenchiesTravel That would be frowned upon though. And some restaurants might tell you to go somewhere else or take another dish that's meant to be cooked for a long time like a boeuf bourguignon or a blanquette de veau. Which are both valid choices in themselves and if you like your meat well-cooked a perfectly legitimate choice. But some cooks would commit seppuku before serving a well-cooked onglet. The thing is, onglet and bavette (favoured cuts for steak-frites) get tough as leather if they're overcooked. So you won't like your meal anyway.
@@damienvidal2420 I would agree. Many places even say in their menu that they will not serve a well cooked steak. I'm sure some may but just for people to be aware that it's not common in France to eat a steak cooked well done ~ or mal cuit, as they put it lol.
This "chef Eric" is none other than Eric Frechon, one of the absolute best chefs in France. He was head chef at 3-star Epicure at Hotel Bristol for years
L'entre cote is all about the sauce...they keep the recipe in their safe. I love the merengue towers with icecream..they only serve steak and frites with salad but they have about er a hundred desserts....another fun fact some of the waitresses have been there 20 years so usually same staff each time you go.
On my trip to France, the servers would assume I wanted my beef à point. I would ask for it sanglante and they seemed surprised. I really like it rare like the French do. Almost half the time they served me meat cooked medium. Should I have sent it back?

Great video Antoine and Colleen - informative and entertaining. One question, how do you ask for your steak to be cooked? Does it depend on the cut? When in France, I would always lean towards 'a point' as it will often be cooked (UK) medium-rare, maybe even rare. There seemed to be a range of 'doneness' with the steaks shown in the video
Saignant = Rare
A point = Medium
Bien Cuit = Well done

We loved Bistrot Paul Bert, but the steak we had was a filet, which is what I prefer and why we went there. I was delicious!
😋
Great content
Hi
Not related but what is the model and brand of your sunglasses?😊

Vous êtes vraiment des sacrés gourmands !
Hello Antoine and Colleen! Do you know if any of these 5 restaurants fry their frites in beef fat? I'm coming to Paris in April with my cousin for 10 days, her first trip, my 4th!
I agree with Colleen. We dislike being seated shoulder to shoulder with others, unless we invited them to join us! 😋😉
We agree!
You 2 eat so well. Lots of wine. 🎉
Thank you 😋
I was in Paris the last 6 weeks and I ate at a half dozen restaurants (including a couple recommended by Les Frenchies) when they brought the card machine to pay for the meal they ask "Do you want to put the tip on the card" I was a little shocked the first time it happened and added a tip.
You didn’t mention the second helping at Le Relais de L’Entrecote. Is that only at night, or have they stopped doing it altogether?
No we got a second serving of steak & fries, we didn't want to look like glutons 😅
Had 2 dinners at Entrecote in Bordeaux....good value and the sauce is rich and addictive which compliments the lean cut of beef
Can you do Dover Sole…the one I had by the late Robuchon is one of those experiences that stays with u
What’s with stirring the coffee and throwing the spoon on the saucer?
that's my thing....your thing is asking other people about their thing? 😅
@ vive la différence !
Robert et Louise in the 3rd Arr.
next time
Do all the steaks come Medium-Rare (only), or can you ask for it to be Medium?
you can order it medium and well done
So beautiful and enticing.
It really is!
You both are awesome! That is all!
Thanks so much!
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
I had a lot of oysters in Paris and the best ones were still maybe slightly below an average one in LA :(
Colleen was born in Florida and we've mostly experienced East coast Oysters
Look at those appetizers! "Just a mixture of hors d'oeuvres...." HaHa! Saturdays are always the best with Les Frenchies!
😊 thank you so much
What wine would pair well with steak frites?
My preference is a Pinot Noir Burgundy
Doesn’t Le Relais usually offer you a second helping? Certainly the ones in the UK and NYC do 😋
yes they do and we did take a second serving, sorry we didn't show that
Pas problème! I'm definitely going to try La Bourse when I'm over at Easter! 😋
We went to relais on our recent trip and it was amazing and well priced. But after this video I may have added more steak frites locations on our google map.
😋
Love this! 🇫🇷 🥩 🍟 🍷 🥖
😋
Always love Antoine’s music conductor hands when he gets a tasty bite! 😂
😋
Always had great meals at La Bourse et La Vie 🇫🇷
Mick the nephew is cute ! 😍
he's adorable!!
Question- can you get steak well done or do they make it just one way?
yes you can
@@LesFrenchiesTravel That would be frowned upon though.
You 2 are the best! Seriously. You make my number one food channel. So natural, so honest and so real.
Thank you so much!!
steak frites tour and Antoine has a sausage - laughing so hard
it was rated the best in Paris, I had to try it!!
This "chef Eric" is none other than Eric Frechon, one of the absolute best chefs in France. He was head chef at 3-star Epicure at Hotel Bristol for years
Can you order your steak medium well in France?
@sallyridenour5293 yes of course, we say "à point"
You can order whichever way you want - but be aware that meat is more tender and has more taste if you eat it rare or medium rare like the French do.
L'entre cote is all about the sauce...they keep the recipe in their safe. I love the merengue towers with icecream..they only serve steak and frites with salad but they have about er a hundred desserts....another fun fact some of the waitresses have been there 20 years so usually same staff each time you go.
I never considered it a pepper sauce.
L’aller retour is my choice. Their veal dish is excellent.
I've been to Le Relais de l'Entrecôte in Saint Germain. Forgot to mention second helpings to more steak and frites are included in the price.
true
make a top 5 steak tartare in paris.
good idea!!
So hard to get into l’Entrecote. I have never made it. I think you have to live near one to get in.
get there by 11:50 am
Love steak frites!
me too!!
You guyz are a hoooot😱🤙🏼
One thing I won't do is queue for a meal. Alongside that comes probably being rushed through the meal to seat new arrivals. 😕
I must try that sorbet!
it was amazing!!
On my trip to France, the servers would assume I wanted my beef à point. I would ask for it sanglante and they seemed surprised. I really like it rare like the French do. Almost half the time they served me meat cooked medium. Should I have sent it back?
