  • Dating outside your race is and continues to be a big topic and we totally get it. We've obviously have had to have this conversation plenty of times in the 9years we've been together and today we thought we would share a bit of our experience with interracial dating in South Africa and how race has affected our relationship.
    A lot of the issues we face as a mixed race couple usually come from strangers which is something we never expected but have had to deal with. We also talk about racism and how exhausting it can be just trying to live day to day as a POC. Having conversations about race with your partner is so important, even if you are in a same race and same culture relationship.
    We're happy to open this space up to constructive conversation so let us know your thoughts and questions.

    If there's ever been a vlog surrounding this topic that nailed it, with regards to the racism experience through the eyes of a black woman first, second as an interracial/cultural couple, and third the history of both cultures independently. In a nutshell.... KILLED IT💯😉

      Thank you Lilley! Big and very charged topics to cover in a 30min video but glad we were able to communicate SOME of our perspective and experiences 😅❤️

    First here yaay🎉So you know l love you guys to bits.lm from jamaica and because lm not well travelled l have not really experienced racism. In jamaica we have asians and indians that speaks the native lamguage patois just like us the blacks because a lot of them were born in jamaica with emmigrant parents or grandparents.Jamaicans also culturally are raised with a certain degree of confidence that we are more likely to cuss you out and keep it moving if you are racist toward us.but l know some ppls experience is really painful. I look at you guys and l honestly dont see color l instead see your loving dynamic and l wish we all could choose to see whats in front of you instead of reverting to social conditioning.l mean how much more evidence do you need to see different can be beautiful.lts why your platform is so important.Anyway Big up yuh nice clean self both of you and kiss my niece for me ♥️♥️

      OMG KAREN PLEASE TAKE ME TO JAMAICA 🇯🇲 😍😍😍 Sounds wonderful and I'm so happy there's such a beautiful mix of culture. I really do wish that for South Africa and its people.
      Thank you so so much. We appreciate you not only watching to listen and understand but also watching to share your experience. You're amazing.

    Randomly stumbled into this video & had to subscribe, also shocked to hear how CT is racist.. I was there for the first time last year & didn’t experience it ( had such a grand time I’m counting down to my next visit) but it was only for a week - I cannot imagine living there if race is still an issue in 2023! Whole video is so insightful 🙌

      But now that I think back on my trip, most if not all the couples I saw were from the same race..so what you’re saying makes sense! Looks like picking your battles is the best way to go with this issue

Have been looking out for you guys surprised because one of your old videos i remember you saying that you don't think you'd have baby of your own but you'll love others. Though you said we'll see how it goes. And now rah rah.... congratulations, love you both!

    I love Cape Town, but the racism there makes me doubt going back. It's different for me, my boyfriend is dark-colored, and when we book places under his surname, people look at him and then question the surname. In addition, when I take my daughter to the doctor or clinic, they look at her and her surname as if I made it up.

    • @alanoandkhanya
      @alanoandkhanya  Год назад +2

      SIVU 🙆🏾‍♀️ I'm SO stressed at the insensitive questions and experiences your kids are already being exposed to...I'm so sorry 😭
      What's worse about Cape Town is that I actually love the lifestyle, scenery and activities... lived there for 7yrs and if there wasn't such a problem with racists I would've lived there forever.

    I don’t think Coloured people are necessarily against dating Black people, it’s just that the Coloured community as whole purely as a generalization has strong Eurocentric preferences of beauty, fair skin, straight hair, sharp nose, etc something that has been conditioned into them from very young.

    • @alanoandkhanya
      @alanoandkhanya  Год назад +1

      Totally hear you! Colourism is deeply entrenched in the Coloured community. Even darker skinned Coloured people with textured hair are discriminated against. I think it's a problem in many communities of colour.
