Changing the oil on your BMW 550i F10 doesn’t have to be an expensive service as BMW likes you to believe. Once you purchase the right tools, it should only take about 15 to 20 minutes and your car is services! I purchased the oil and filter from Amazon which came out to about $50-60 total which is less than one third of the cost of changing oil at the BMW dealership. I also show how to reset the oil service light. We then also measure the oil and add a little more to make it perfectly at the correct level. Don’t overspend on expensive oil changes anymore!

Thank you for watching! Don’t forget the oil filter wrench!
awesome brother just got a 550i 2016 and will definitely be doing small work like this on my own.
My go to guy for 550 goodies! First oil change is fixing to commence! Thanks for the tips!
Wow excellent tutorial video!! Superb!!!!!
Many thanks!

Good video, well narrated! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I have a 2013 BMW 750li xDrive with the N63Tu engine, I was wondering if its the same process that you shown here.
The engine is the same, so the process should be the same as well. Some things that might be different would be lifting points and maybe the location of the drain plug in relation to everything else. Other than that, should be the same! Good luck.
The N63 used 5w40 it’s approved for N63
Thank you
What’s that part called that goes into the center of the oil filter?
Exelent video bro
I think you over torqued the canister
Should be 25nm. Not 30/180°
Thanks big help
In my opinion Valvoline oil has never done well for me (I have a 13’ 335 N55.) it burns through quick and my car has never burned any oil (I use Liqui moly 5w-40) and the oil turned black after 1k miles which is very unusual
Maybe I’ve been lucky, but I’ve done about 6000 miles on it and haven’t had to add any at all. Moly is of course better if you change your oil less often.
Your car is part of the recall for lifetime oil, filters and more. You should contact BMW, normally till 120k miles for some other things too.
Isn’t that for the N63 from 2011-13??
I cant see where to add the oil.
How did U take the little piece that went in the bottom of filter out ?
hey was it a 86 mm by 16 sides for the cta opener ???
So you think I can do more then 3k before an oil change?
It doesn't look like that much work. Basically you are saving about $100 by doing changing the oil on your own bimmer in under an hour.
Not that bad at all. I think most people should at least do easy car stuff at home if they have the space.
What oil do you use for the car @sim
Are the torque setting 40 pound feet or newton meters for the drain plug and filter housing? I believe that you said 40 newton meters for the plug and then 40 pound feet for the housing? I can't seem to find the spec. online....
Here are the specs from BMW:
Oil filter cover to oil sump upper part:
1. Initial tightening - 30Nm
2.Release oil filter cover through 180°
3. Final torque - 40 Nm
Oil drain plug - 10 Nm
My oil level is about at the same level yours were before you added oil the second time. Should I add a half quart as you did?
I would, yes. If you want to be 100% sure, take it on a 10 minute drive so the oil is warm and settled. Check again and add if needed.
@@SimpleCarGuy ok, Thanks for the quick response.
My light just came on saying to add 1 quart of oil. It’s measuring right at the minimum oil line and I just got the car about 2 months ago. Should I just add the oil or do a full change?
If you haven’t changed then oil change it. Oil should be changed every 3-4 months or every 2500-4000 miles depending how hard you drive your car. They tell you you can go longer with full synthetic but I don’t trust that. Oil gets dirty because air is pulled into the engine so if you go 5k every oil change with a car it will have more problems then if you change it every 3k
why are there IP filters on the bottom? Mines is on top 550i 2011
correction: oil filter
oil filter 2017 bmw 550 oil filter is on the driver side top of engine
550? No its not, unless its a diesel
Can you use valvoline or Mobil 1 on this cars
Sure, as long as they have the european formula and correct weight for the car.
is it the same process for a 2011 550 ix
Yes, it is.
Do BMW use dexos oil? I thought it was only GM!
I’m not an expert; but I did check the spec sheet on their website and it is approved for API SN, MB-Approval 229.51, VW 504, Porsche c30 and BMW LL-04.
Valvoline makes a specific european oil blend which has BMW LL04 & LL01 certifications. This oil isn’t approved
I’m kinda later to this conversation but you should change your oil every 3000 miles to prevent your car from engine failure problem which this engine is very famous as the worst BMW engine ever and always use European vehicle approved oil no matter what brand. peace I’m out ✌🏻
