    These people aren't "animal lovers", they let the animals starve to death, that's not love. They are just obsessed with having control over other lives. I've seen it, both my grandmother and my mother have this "problem". It's a mental condition that needs to be treated and many times medicated.

    • @cheryldahl9192

      +Narf Narf Well, they didn't say how the animals died.... why would you assume they starved? Maybe they died of old age.

      +Cheryl Dahl It's impossible to care for so many animals, it takes too much money. Besides, mentally ill people can't see reality as it is. If an animal requires vet care they won't take it.

      When people get a pet they often don't think of these things:
      The constant poop and pee that they will make more than you will.
      The constant eating and food they go through that you will have to restock just as often as your own food.
      The random health problems that will happen more often then you would like and earlier then you think.
      Medications that MUST happen otherwise they will die, includes night time care or scheduled cared.
      When they get elderly and need around the clock care at times.
      Any fighting they may start, and trying to deal with pets that don't get along.
      Destroyed furniture or house from certain pets.
      The constant cleaning.
      Having to always put them first which means no vacations or going places without making sure they are looked after.
      The noise.
      The dirt.
      The training any may need, usually daily, or interacting, playing.
      Bug infestations that might happen if you don't keep up, some of which are impossible to get rid of.
      Fleas.
      Random health problems (mats, brushing, gum diseases, food allergies, puking, so on).
      Sounds doable when you have 1 maybe or 2...but not a whole hoard of them.

      +alleycatalog I don't think she is a hoarder either. When confronted with the problem she was able to make the change for better. The hoarder needs help to change, like the man who had to be threatened with jail-time. She was just extreme in her desire to help animals. So when they said helping them would be to adopt them out, she complied. That isn't a hoarder! she may be a little obsessive, but not to the extreme that a hoarder is.

    • @death2theworld
      @death2theworld 6 лет назад +6

      Cheryl Dahl wow you're in great denial. It seems like she had to give up the animals because for some reason she couldn't live on that property anymore and this was a requirement to move in with her daughter.

    • @pickles3128
      @pickles3128 6 лет назад +5

      She keeps saying she was forced into that situation. She originally bred the dogs (contributing to the problem of overpopulation and healthy animals being put down) and didn't bother to fix the dogs so they kept breeding. It is not healthy or natural for an animal to constantly give birth, nurse and rear young repeatedly without rest. She could have neutered them, or at least rehomed them. I rescue stray and feral cats, part of that is taming them, spaying / neutering them and other vet care, and the other part is finding GOOD, permanent homes for them. I could never plan on keeping them caged forever, and their cages are as tall as I am with multiple levels and space.
      I don't think they're bad people, just ignorant with misplaced intentions and more than likely extreme depression where they get overwhelmed by the cost and work required to maintain so many animals.

  • @chistinelane
    @chistinelane 7 лет назад +53

    The perfect example of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions"
    These people genuinely care about their animals, they don't want to keep them like this, but for whatever reason it got out of control and they just can't see the way out, if there's even one. You can't just drop off 50 cats at a shelter, so they just let the problem grow and grow

    I dont think there is anything wrong with having a lot of animals IF they are cared for. My aunt has 3 dogs, 3 cats, a fox and several rabbits as well as her job to rehabillitate birds of prey. Thing is they get her 24/7 attention: all animals are fed twice a day, all cages are cleaned in the morning, the dogs get walked and each animal gets the attention they need. If u can care for your pets and they are both happy AND healthy, then it shouldnt be a problem

    • @ScherazadezGypsy
      @ScherazadezGypsy 10 лет назад +20

      even then, if you have a hundred animals (like if you are a breeder) and you CAN take care of them i think it's completely different. these people just stop caring and turn a blind eye to the problems that they see

      ScherazadezGypsy No breeder would ever had this amount of animals unless they are a puppy mill. A real, reputable breeder does not breed for money but to better their lines. They may breed once or twice a year and wait several years between the bitches/mare's/queen's/whatever animal female version's breeding. Pleeeaaase do not go on believing it is normal for anybody to have that amount of animals unless they are livestock.

    As an animal activist, I understand it's so heartbreaking to see the homeless cats and dogs roaming on the streets. Due to the very limited space, I only can keep two rescue cats with me, and I foster one rescued kitten at a time and find them homes, and I do the TNR (Trap, Neuter, and Release). In that way I prevent the homeless cats born on the streets. #SpayNeuter

    How is that quality of life if they are in cages? I have ocd/hoarder tendencies too but I stop myself by thinking about the fleas that would take over. I used to have over 30 pets including snakes, birds, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, gerbils, rats, multiple aquariums...now I have 2 small dogs, 1 large aquarium, 1 small bird and I can breathe. I'm still a mess but my house is clean. my autistic teen is my biggest mess maker. these people need help to get this under control. my meds helped me to see I was spiraling further into madness, now I'm on the road to recovery.

      She was irritating when she said that. I just wanted to scream 'take responsibility for yourself!!! You are supposed to be an ADULT!!!'
      She seems completely untroubled by evidence of her making choices along the way, rather than being 'forced' - such as choosing to stop selling puppies to better homes because SHE wanted to keep them; finally letting them be taken away; not getting her dogs spayed, etc.
      I think her devout belief she was 'put in' that position could be to alleviate the guilt of so many animals having suffered, to meet her emotional desires. Still as deluded and annoying as heck though.
      Did she not think that even after so many were taken to the shelter, it would risk stopping stray dogs getting a place, and a potential home? That is what her selfishness has led to - so many animals they were suffering in her home, and now other dogs have to suffer too, as the shelter can only take so many.

      ***** Those dogs were treated worse than prisoners. But without any exercise. I totally agree, we had two dogs, and they took up at least two hours a day, often we were out for many more hours than that, to exercise them. :) Sadly they eventually got old and died, [put to sleep humanely to prevent suffering as they had terminal conditions due to old age] and we miss them very much, but they cost a lot in terms of time, and money if you care for them properly, as you know..but worth it. :)

They all get out of their cages for most of the day and my parents have big enough hearts to spend most money on quality food and medicine. No, I'm not an animal hoarder at all my house is pretty clean and my mom spends every moment cleaning them. I agree the amount of animals does not make you a hoarder, it the quality, my animals have amazing quality lives.

    I agree with everyone who says this is not "animal love". This is just absolute madness. I have a relative who lives near me who is an animal hoarder, and it makes me so angry. I have seen this woman "rescue" so many dogs, and now most of them are tied up outside 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, while the others are kenneled inside all day and all night. They have not been vaccinated in years, let alone seen a vet in years. She never plays with them or walks them. They just spend their ENTIRE lives in a kennel or at the end of a chain, living in pee and poop. Mental illness or not, I HATE animal hoarders. These people do not love their animals, or else they would not let them suffer. They are just lunatics.

    I do have to say it is difficult to find a home for an animal that you can't keep. I have 8 cats. Why do I have 8 cats? Because I adopted 4 of them. I have a 6 bedroom house and could afford to feed and vet them. Then someone dumped 4 kittens on my porch. I attempted to surrender them to animal control, they wanted to charge me. $40 EACH kitten even though I told them they were not mine. They accused me of being a poor animal parent by not spaying my females. I informed them they were all spayed they ignored me. I told them I can't afford to pay you $160 to take these cats. They said we wont take them. And so 2 years later I have 8 cats. They're all veted shots and neutered. They're fed and cared for each has his/her own labeled dish for food, each has their own bed. But other than going out and buying another animal I do see how it happens you end up with so many. And yeah you fall in love with them very fast too.

    • @AccessAnthony
      @AccessAnthony 9 лет назад +4

    • @crazyhai8155
      @crazyhai8155 9 лет назад +5

      Come on. If animal control really did behave like that, you should have made a complaint (you could have given them evidence of spaying, to show they are not from your cats).
      And as the previous commentator said, it doesn't add up you couldn't afford 160 dollars. Some people don't have it, but you seem completely oblivious that you have just gone on about having plenty enough money for vets, food, big house, etc - but you say you couldn't afford 160 dollars.
      Which is it? Can you provide a good life for them with money, or are you actually hard up and not being honest with yourself?
      There were ways of rehoming if you really wanted to (or even just a couple of them), but let's be honest - you didn't want to. Nothing wrong with that if you really do have the resources to care for them well - but you wanted those kittens.
      And the people in this report are different - they didn't have all those animals dumped on them. But you sound very similar in how you describe having 'no choice', when you in fact did.

      Since originaly posting this a young man who runs a rescue contacted me and we worked with a local rescue facility, I was put on a waiting list for 2 months and they took 3 of the "kittens" (adults by then). As for my finances yes I live on a limited income, we got the 4 I adopted already spayed/neutered and I paid $35 to have the 4 kittens spayed/neutered and vaccinated through a low cost spay neuter clinic. Food for 8 cats cost me about $30 a month and litter about $10. So in a month I spend only $40 caring for them monetarily and yes I have a large house but only pay $200 in my mortgage. I could have I suppose just left the tiny babies out on the porch to run off get hit by a car or killed by a dog but that's not me. We have 5 right now and will just keep the little girl the rescue didn't take. 5 isn't to many to handle for me but if they weren't fixed i'm sure by now i'd have 10 or 12. Our local shelter charges because (their statement not mine) people like to just abandon their animals with them claiming they do not own them when in reality they do. I still don't think its ok if you can't afford your pet and must surrender them I think its stupid to say oh well then you have to pay us but that's they way they run this shelter. I suppose there are many people who get a dog/cat then get bored with it and just want someone else to take it but again this is not me Also we posted ads EVERYWHERE for free kittens on craigslist and local swap shop pages but theres so many of them that no one wanted one especially once they were larger and not so cute.

    These people should start businesses and take care of animals special facilities, not their homes. It'd be a win-win. They obviously got the drive and capacity to take care of animals. Hire a vet and you got a clinic. You'd always have animals going in and out and the occasional stray as well. It's a perfect business opportunity if they got starting capital.
    That lady is in denial. Hoarding simply means to compulsively collect something to the point that it's excessive. It doesn't matter if you buy or breed the animals you own. If they pile up and you keep letting them breed, guess what, you're a hoarder. As for the other lady, holy fuck. She just put a whole new meaning to the term cat lady. 250 cats. How do you even feed that many. She must be super rich or possibly underfeed and have no insurance on the cats.

    It's easy to blame the hoarder and, of course, they play the major role. But the woman at the very beginning of this segment said something important: "I have a hard time saying no."
    In my experience, if people find out that you have a soft spot for animals, there is no end to their wanting you to take their "problem" off their hands, a problem they created by not getting their pet fixed, or by having a willingness to give up a pet when there is the slightest glitch--he jumps the fence or we are moving. There are thousands more irresponsible pet owners than there are hoarders. These people take advantage of the kind-hearted to just get rid of their problem. I have actually seen people whisper behind someone's back that they are a hoarder, and then push a pet on that person because it was easiest way to get rid of their problem.
    I have also seen veterinarians contribute to the problem!!! In two cases, the vets offered low-cost services to a private rescue or shelter, but never visited the facilities despite there being many rumors for many years that these were hoarding operations.
    So when you see a hoarder, it's natural to feel outraged, but consider that it is likely many people contributed to that problem.

She is now homeschooled every now and then was what I learned the last time I got contact with her. I think that her mom was about to take away and sell her electronics for money for the cats. That was her last cry for help and I told my mom. She contacted the areas police line and reported animal Horder and possibly child neglect. The police then went to the house the next day, to discover. All the animals and people gone, all the cars, and all the furniture left behind.

But her dad (a Brit, of course) had enough foresight to set up a Trust that dispensed 5,000 a month in funds for her acreage home in Canada. all the cats were inside, and her Vet. must have smiled every time she showed up with all her cat carriers. It’s fine to hoard if they’re completely healthy, where they live is clean and open, and you have enough room, food, water, and litter/land to care for them. Like that one lady who let her cats take over her own house and moved into a different house. She has many volunteers to help her and the cats and they have separate living quarters. All cats are neutered once old enough and revive proper vaccines. That is healthy hoarding and she also lets people adopt the cats and stuff so e.

      DomiFury I wouldn’t think so as long as you give them your full attention and care ( which I assume you do :) ).

    Not fair to keep any animal in cages. It’s just like being in jail. No animal should live in its own crap & pee. That’s cruelty.

    People kill me with their overly intense love for animals. This is disgusting for sure!..I have one pit bull that I've had for 9 years and I've only had one cat. Hell, the cat was 19 yrs old..lol..I can remember getting the cat when I was like 6!..But they are animals...Calling and treating them like children is absolutely ridiculous. I've never treated my animals as anything but animals. I've had 3 dogs and guess what? Everyone one of them were extremely well trained, well behaved and fiercely fucking loyal and protective. I didn't treat them like damn kids, I treated them like animals..I was pack leader period..I simply fed them and trained them..I never put them in fucking sweaters and paraded them around like a psycho..Certain people should be required to wear fucking dunce hats!

    It’s animal abuse plain and simple. It should be reported and that owners prosecuted.

    Remember: Keeping hundreds and thousands of animals but not giving them proper care does NOT mean you truly love animals. If you just put them in cages, not giving them enough food and water, not petting them or care for them, then why would you take them in?? They need a long term caring home, but not a place that gives them temporary love (aka only letting them out or petting them once in a while)

    The problem isn’t even the amount of animals. It’s the lack of space and cleanliness.
    If they had a huge space to keep the animals and staff employed to help feed and clean up. 20 cats or dogs would be logistically okay. I can’t understand why someone would want 20 pets but it would be okay if they’re properly cared for.

    I had 6 cats but they were groomed daily and bathed once a week. Nails trimmed too. I also had a live in bf. It was honestly exhausting but worth it completely!

      +Alexandria Ingram hi5, girl. I have the same amount right now, and BY GOD it really IS a lot of work, but each one of them is precious and unique and I love them to death. Would not leave them for the best job in the best country in the world. One of them has a disease that so far has no cure and she gets her meds and whatever the doctor suggests. They'r on raw, so I spent a fewa hours every week in the kitchen chopping up chicken and guts. Litter boxes checked and cleaned twice a day.... sweeping and mopping, now that's a diff story. That takes me way too long and it drives me nuts, but I manage.

    The difference between hoarding and just having a lot of animals is determined by their care. If you are able to care for all of your pets perfectly, if you have the time, money, and recourses as well as space then I’d say it is ok to have a lot of pets. I have four parrots in my room and they are all extremely well cared for. Tyler rugge which is an animal RUclipsr has around 30 pets and they are all perfectly cared for.
