I just had to put down my poor 10-week old dachshund Coco last night because the criminal who sold her to me knew she had distemper and didnt tell me. Furthermore, she had been playing with and sleeping in the same bed as my 6-month old dachsund Sophia for the past 2 weeks. Thankfully though, Sophia completed her full course of vaccinations (including the one against distemper) when she was 16 weeks old, before coming into contact with Coco. It broke my heart to see my poor puppy seize and suffer with this horrible virus.
@Dutch Bird Scout I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. No dog deserves to suffer with this terrible virus. May I ask where you live? I'm just curious if you are close to where I am (California,)
@@gmar7836 I've tried. Media doesn't want the story because the criminals doing the scamming are Mexican nationals running a sick puppy ring in California. Media is afraid of appearing racist by exposing what these immigrants are doing, so they won't report it.
Very informative, thank you! I have a 10 week old puppy & bc of Covid I can’t get him in anywhere even my other dogs vet can’t see him till next month which is too long. Especially when trying to keep him away from my other dog. So luckily Petco gives this vaccine.
My 2month old puppy has a cold for a week now and she keeps sneezing causing some nasal discharge. The discharge is clear but when i wipe it, it looks like a phlegm from a human who has colds. Im not exactly sure but i think she reverse sneezes especially when she’s sleeping and she would wake up just to make this snorting sound. She’s very active, doesnt vomit, and eats a lot. Does she have an early signs of distemper, doc?
Sounds like allergies dogs would sneeze scratch themselves runny eyes nose. I would check with a vet to see if it is allergies my dog has allergies he would scratch himself alot.
My son fell in love with a beautiful 6 month old puppy we found via a local rescue. After meeting the puppy, I asked the foster mom about the eye discharge. She then informed me the dog had tested positive for distemper over 30 days ago but the eye discharge should be cleared up soon. The dog seemed healthy, energetic and happy other than eye discharge. Does this mean that NEXT the dog will start to get twitches, then get more neurological side effects, then likely die? Or could the eye discharge just clear up and the dog live a long healthy life?
I lost my puppy, I purchased it online. There were no initial sysmtops direct attack on CNS.Dont buy pers online, get medical verification before taking pet.
Mam if my dog is a survivor of distemper virus, is my dog is distemper virus free? My vet in the Philippines say that my dog is a carrier of distemper virus my question is my dog distemper virus free? I hope you response doc.
My puppy was normal and healthy before 5in1 vaccination but shown muscle twitching right after it’s 1st shot. I thought it was just a side effect of the vaccine. We then went back to the vet after few days and my dog diagnosed with distemper after showing other symptoms like hard paws and nose. How is that become possible? Please could you enlighten me. Appreciate your help.
It’s simple really. Even vaccinated dogs could catch distemper and other dog related viruses But a vaccinated dog fight off much better a canine distemper virus than an unvaccinated one.
She went out an awful lot when she spoke about the symptoms. She may be a professional and even knows the business but she isn't the proper spoke person for this.
Every puppy we ever had we got the 5 n 1 shot from the local feed and seed store in Gainesville FL and they were fine. I think of distemper as covid for dogs. A very sad disease and like covid the dogs with the vaccine do much better than the ones that didn't get the vaccine. Get your puppy vaccinated asap.
Hello, my dog (3 years) has canine distemper and is very very sick with an estimated 4 days left to live. Is there anything we can do? What is the best treatment we can be helping him with right now? His is hospitalized but there isn’t much we can do, and he does not have neurological symptoms. Is it really a 20% survival chance? And how long does aggressive care permit him to live
Hi Doctor... Thank you for the video. I have a 13 year old 8lb dog. I heard that senior dogs don't need distemper and parvo vax. Does it hurt to get them the vaccines at this age?
I will still vaccinate my patients as they get older, but if you're concerned you could speak to your vet about checking a distemper titer (blood test).
I have a question that’s off topic I believe! I’m just freaking out don’t no what to do! I have a 4 year old yorki shitzu mix she has been fine active eating everything I come home last night and she looked like she had seen a monster she was shivering and plus her back legs were real weak! This morning she stopped shivering and she is loving on me but she is not wanting to walk on her back legs! I’m so confused! She never been injured do u have any ideas or is taking her to the vet really the only option! I just don’t want to wait to long! Thank u hope u can help I’m so scared I actually looked up diseases just to see there symptoms! My name is Tiffany
I have my golden retriever puppy batting this right now. First started with fever, eye discharge, twitches and now he seems super weak and could barely get up now. Is this considered a late stage? Does he have a fighting chance? We’re doing everything we can to nurse him.
To give your pup the best chances at long term success and survival you should bring them to your family vet. Having not examined them I can't offer guidance. Good luck!
@@MackSmooth unfortunately she passed away...rip Kira :( it started off with her coughing and just degenerated from there...then she lost balance, and lost the ability to move her legs at all, then started getting seizures....such a terrible virus.
my dog is 1.5 years old and was vaccinated for distemper as a puppy but still found out she contracted the virus. I currently have her on a treatment plan with my vet. can she still live a long and healthy life after recovering from the virus symptoms?
If your dog has distemper he or she is probably quite sick, so no it wouldn't be appropriate to vaccinate him/her. If your pup had distemper as a puppy and survived and is now healthy, then yes I would probably recommend vaccination. The distemper vaccine we use (also known as a 5 in 1) has more than one virus it protects against. It's a good question, and as always you should check with your regular vet for specific cases, but typically I recommend a healthy animal get vaccinated, where a sick one shouldn't.
What do you think would be the appropriate things to do for her to help her recover ? How do I know my dog is recovering ? I went to the vet and they said she was too young to be 100 percent sure but she has all the symptoms for it
If you think your pup has distemper and your veterinarian is not open to discussing what is going on with her, then I think you should potentially find another family veterinarian. Distemper is a serious disease that is usually fatal. It spreads quickly to other dogs that are not immunized.
Can you tell about the situation when during distemperthe dogs eyes vanished whole white with continuous fluid coming out and first it seemed like the eyes have sequesed and his head was pumping and legs moving and his jaws were locked and
My beagle puppy is sick it has vomitting, diahhrea, lethargy, not eating, etc I took it to vet they said it's parvo n started treatment. But I want to know how to know if it's distempher. When its sleeping it shakes its legs ball just like seizure but vet said it's just dreaming.
I'm sorry to hear your puppy is sick. I would say it's important to trust your vet. They are trained medical providers and if you pup has tested positive for Parvo, it is likely Parvo. You should always feel empowered to ask your vet questions and ask for more information if you don't understand something or don't agree with something. Best of luck.

I know it can spread to stuff like raccoons, but what about humans? If this is answered in the video I haven't gotten to it yet
