My ranking of all 8 nitro Rainbow Roads excluding spinoffs: 8. Wii U Rainbow Road- I like the space station theme and alternate paths but otherwise the track doesn't do that much for me 7. N64 Rainbow Road- I love the music and pretty visuals but hate how long and easy it is 6. SNES Rainbow Road- I really love the music and the thwomps are a cool inclusion. This Rainbow Road overall is really solid despite its simplicity. 5. GBA Rainbow Road- This is a very underrated Rainbow Road in my opinion mainly because it's so fun. I actually really like the music and driving on the narrow paths and speed boosts is really fun. 4. DS Rainbow Road- I love the loop and corkscrew giving this track anti-gravity before it was cool! The music is great too and the visuals are pretty. 3. GCN Rainbow Road- I love how it takes place over Mushroom City, the music is awesome and the layout is unique and fun as well. 2. Wii Rainbow Road- This is one of the most satisfyingly hard courses in the entire series as well as one of the most pretty ones. I love the planets and asteroids in the background and the music. 1. 3DS Rainbow Road- This is my favorite course in the entire series! The major highlights for me is driving on the rings of Saturn and craters of the Moon as well as the music being the best in the entire series! The rest of the track is really great as well. My ranking of the retro Rainbow Road remakes (excluding Mario Kart Tour): Honorable mention: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remake of Wii Rainbow Road- not included since Wave 6 hasn't been released yet but I'm very excited for it 5. GBA remake of SNES Rainbow Road- The removal of the thwomps take a lot of the fun out of this track but I love the pretty background unique to this version of the course. 4. 3DS remake of SNES Rainbow Road- It's SNES Rainbow Road but the Thwomps are back, the music doesn't sound horribly compressed like on the GBA and the road is wider. My only major complaint is that the course is now 3 laps instead of 5. 3. Wii U remake of SNES Rainbow Road- Just like the 3DS remake but in HD and the waves the thwomps make are now larger. 2. Wii U remake of N64 Rainbow Road- This remake improved on everything from the original. I love how he light show is now fireworks, some of the guard rails are missing and the track isn't ridiculously long anymore. The only downside is that now the track feels a little bit too short. 1. Wii U remake of 3DS Rainbow Road- While I prefer the original, it's still 3DS Rainbow Road. Everything I said about the original version of the course applies here.
Mario Kart Wii's Rainbow Road is the most sensational track of all versions. I got to know the game at a demo sponsored by Nintendo do Brasil at my university, we were all blown away by the video game. I just couldn't hold back the thrill of witnessing a game made as lovingly as MK Wii.
Doubledash looks like it maintained its title as Most Brutal. But 3DS’s is probably the prettiest and “why repeat track when you can make new??” for its laps. That last one tho...feels like a troll
