Doesn’t matter, TCU’s defense will easily stop Cal’s OC “Beau FCS Baldwin’s” lame, predictable offensive calls. A quick breakdown of “FCS” Baldwin’s play calling, 1st down - somewhere up the middle, 2nd down - somewhere up the middle, 3rd down - sacked, 4th down - punt. Anyway, thanks for the video!

Haha, yes, but now when we're all arm-chair coordinating we'll know what to yell at the TV!

      Punting is winning!

Cool. No McIlwain. Let's use Garbers. He can run too.

    Is 'nervous' the new terrified?

McIllwain is just going to bring another defender in the box. Any advantage you gain, is immediately lost because he can't throw the ball.

Not if you do it right (which is another issue entirely for our team)! If you look at the play at 4:58 of the video, TCU's in Cover-0 and playing with a 7 man box vs. 6 defenders. They can't bring anyone else into the box at this point, because they need their four remaining defenders to cover the four receivers split out wide. When Texas pulls the LG to the right, they'll have four blockers to that side, creating 5 gaps. It's going to be very hard for TCU to get five defenders to that side. If we brought a RB in to the backfield and ran a Zone Read with Garbers, TCU would probably get into a Quarters look, which would, ironically, be better at stopping the QB run around the edge. It all depends on what they do vs. empty and what they do vs. 1-back.

I should add that of course playing McIlwain has its obvious risks. But schematically, the run game that we use with him is better suited to attacking TCU's defense the run game with Garbers is, and so a gameplan that could protect QB runs with horizontal passing instead of downfield passing might be a way to take advantage of McIlwain's strengths for a few series while also minimizing the risks.
