    Thank you for your very informative and detailed presentation. I have had the 3861 Hesalite version for 3 days now, and absolutely love it! I had to sell my previous Moonwatch - twice actually - because I could simply not get a comfortable fit, most due to the bracelet. Rather large links, no half links, and only 2 micro adjustments on the clasp. While the 3861 still has only 2 micro adjusts on the clasp, with the much narrower links it is a lot easier to get a comfortable fit. The bracelet is also lighter and far more flexible and beautifully crafted. Where the Speedy Moonwatch Professional was, at one time, most of my most comfortable watches, it is now the most comfortable of any stainless steel bracelet watch I have owned. Also due to the narrower end links, which do not protrude beyond the ends of the lugs. And I totally agree with what you say about the comparison between the 321 and this 3861, I believe this one is the better watch. Not only technically, but I love it has a hesalite crystal option, and also a solid case back option. And the luminescent hands and markers are not colored, but white. I have not tried the 321 on my wrist, but I think it would be safe to say the 3861 likely has the more comfortable bracelet. Also, the 3861 is slightly thinner than the previous, and the back of the case has a double bevel which really allows the watch to cradle the wrist a lot better. Sorry to ramble on, but I did want to give my personal owner opinion. Cheers, Carl

      No doubt the 3861 is beautiful hesalite best.. that's why I got it been waiting for a speedmaster professional that I could wear (1863 too big) and this 3861 is the perfect size now.
      But 321 is really a more beautiful piece inside and out albeit with a more "beautiful" price too. 😉
      But really love the 3861! For the vast majority the 3861 will be more than enough to make them happy for life!🙂
      Regards

    Great video, thank you! Small correction though re: warranty. The outgoing 1861/3 Speedmaster did already benefit from a 5 year warranty. Omega changed their warranty policy across all watches back in 2018.

    I recently received this from my wife as celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. I love the history behnd the piece and the successful updates that Omega hsa applied to the design. While it won't be an EDC piece for me, mainly due to the price risk, it will be a frequent piece as it is so functional. I find this design to be more attractive than the Rolex as it seems to be a more modern look. Rolex could take some coaching from Omega on bringing their brand and product to a new generation.

    Thank you for spending some actual time discussing the movement. All these "watch experts" only focus on the details in the dial and bracelet. Either not caring or not knowing about the differences regarding the most important part of the update. I love the introduction of the coaxial movement in the Speedmaster, while still having some relation in design to the original 321 (and 1861/3) movement. That said, I still wish it had micro-adjustment in the clasp and a ceramic bezel. Even with the new movement it still seems somehow a little lacking compared to Omega's own products in the same price category. For me, at these prices, I care less and less about the quaintness of the 50's elements in this watch.

  • @gpearce11

    All in all I am quite happy with this Speedy update. I think their treatment of the Hesalite model is perfect, but I wish the sapphire model included a ceramic bezel (as seen on the Apollo 50th and 321), especially considering the increased price gap. That said, I consider it a small detail, and definitely not a deal breaker, even for the new price; a price that I don't exactly like, but can understand.

    As ever, intelligent conclusions and astute observation. This could so easily have become a 46mm, orange ceramic with yellow bezel monstrosity - Omega (Swatch) being far too prone to release grotesque, sugary confections. But, they've played a straight bat and refined this classic design intelligently. The nuanced details have combined to deliver a massively improved product, that befits Omega's heritage and place as a luxury manufacturer (which was a bit moot in the '90s when the 1861 came along). I think this watch can face up to the Sub now and actually represents a more coherent, sophisticated, and attainable alternative in the versatile, daily wear/steel tool segment. For the first time with the modern iterations, I like and might buy.
    And yes, get them now - they're priced low in their respective £000 brackets to enable stealthy price rises post pandemic! Although, this must be countered by grey market supply which always offers a huge discount on Omegas. I can't imagine supply will be a problem (and if there is, it's artificial) - Omega would have released this in Olympic year, so can't have been making much else in the factory for 9 months...

    My only disappointment with these revised Speedmaster Pros, actually pertains to the precious metal variants. I think those much more dressy and expensive versions should of had Omega’s enamel filled ceramic bezels, rather than sticking with anodized aluminum. That just doesn’t sit right with me when purchasing any modern precious metal watch...premium all the way I say 😁

    I was really looking forward to this release as it seemed all the shortcomings would be sorted. So does the new movement hack? Yes; great. So did they upgrade the clasp to have on the fly adjustment? No; not great. Did they upgrade the bezel from aluminium to ceramic? No; shame. I don't think a dot over 90 can compensate for these omissions. It will still sell by the bucket load but I guess I'll wait until they upgrade the clasp especially.

      I purchased a new Speedmaster Professional (Hesalite) in December 2017 for £2,617 and sold it in November 2019 for £2,800. It was my second Speedmaster, however, the lack of hacking annoyed me. The new model addresses all of the perceived problems of the older model but I'll wait until they are discounted again. If only Omega would introduce the symmetrical case of the CK2998 Limited Edition or FOIS #311.32.40.30.01.001 with the new movement as not all of us can afford the Calibre 321 #311.30.40.30.01.001 which is selling for a premium above it's £11,950 retail price.

    I have the older sapphire sandwich on bracelet, got a killer price, less in dollars then what you quoted for the henselite version. I'm not sorry on my purchase which was last fall, got it from an AD and it has a 5 year warranty. It did take them a week or two to locate one, then ship it to me. Didn't have to pay sales tax, from a small AD in California, I live in NJ. He offered to size it, I said just send it, basically it came in an Omega shipping box, with my pasted over the AD's. Too bad they wouldn't drop ship ir because Omega (Swatch) is located in New Jersey, where I live and we are a small geographic state. Oddly bought a Tissot strait from Tissot with a discount code which made it cheaper than most stores, nor would it pay for me in gas and tolls to go to an AD and hassle over price. to save maybe $25, it was a PRX. Also Swatch and from NJ and got it like the next day leaving the weekend out. Ordered Friday got in Monday.

    Great video, very detailed as usual. I must confess that in 20+ years of watch collecting, I have never owned an Omega, despite the fact that I love and respect the Speedmaster. Something to do with being a stainless steel sports watch on metal bracelet that has a poor water resistance, which I find a bit contradictory. Having said that, this new release might well sway me into getting one. I much, much prefer the new bracelet over the outgoing one, and the movement improvements are impressive. I also read that the lugs are slightly shorter now. Can you confirm this? Between the two new versions, I would definitely go for the hesalite version, which has a more vintage feel while dispensing with the polished links.

    • @James2001
      @James2001 3 года назад

      All this talk about "poor water resistance" is simply bunk. The Speedy Pro is tested and certified to 50m, and thus is able to be worn in any water activity short of SCUBA diving. Anyone claiming otherwise exposes their ignorance of WR in modern timepieces.

    • @johnnyguitar6697
      @johnnyguitar6697 3 года назад

      @@James2001 I guess this dates back to the days when that model was 30m water resistant, and a friend of mine did have a WR issue. But that was perhaps 15 years ago. I did buy the 2021 hesalite model, which I have no problem passing under running water to clean it after sports. The METAS certification is definitely a plus in that respect. Still, this wouldn't be the first watch I think of to swim with. Not when I have a Sinn U50.

      @@awesomeguy2768 ah yes? How can you proove it? That omega "signed" what is written in this article? Do you remember the story about Tudor new in house mouvement? Written every where while it was not the case in fact?! Did you saw any official communication denying r

You cannot imagine how companies can late wrong information circulating when it s an avdvantage (like the IWC portuguese chrono considered "in house" while it seems shared in keering group etc..) .

    For me, as the owner of a 1861 Speedy Pro from 2018 I don’t see the need to upgrade- especially as mine runs within cosc spec. Plus has an upgraded Omega adjustable clasp, which is a more useful upgrade than anything this new offering has (in my not so humble opinion).
    However I think it’s a logical step for Omega with an upgraded movement and tapered bracelet as well as a step up in price to keep them in the same league as Rolex. I would have preferred an adjustable clasp and easier to wind crown too though.

    A Great Post! Thank You! I owned A Classic 145.022-71 for 22 Years. I gave it away to an Old School-Chum & got A 3594.50.0000, the 1957 "ReEdition" with the Road-Arrow Handset. I've has this one for 6 Years now. You just CANNOT BEAT A Classical Vintage Speedmaster! The 321/861/1861 handwound movements really haven't changed in Architecture or Performance since the 1940s? To me The CoAxial is still A Johnny-Come-Lately, and only another 5 Decades will Really prove its Chops. I am 67, so have put-in a lot of Speedmaster wrist-time. This new watch, i don't like. I HATE that Dial. You may think that dividing each Second/Minute hash-mark into Quarters instead of fifths "Makes Sense", but it really spoils that "Precise" Astronaut-Look of the Dial i fell in-❤️ with as A Teenage Astronaut! It IS A Nice watch, but to me it just seems like An Omega "Let's Dry-Hump the Speedmaster AGAIN", Milking Th' Chrono Ca$h-Cow!

    Here's what I like about the new speedy:
    -new movement
    -brushed underside lug instead of the old, polished underlugs
    -new bracelet design no longer scratches the case
    -applied logo
    Here's what I don't like
    -Stepped dials
    -three-index seconds instead of the old five-index
    -bracelet link still probably doesn't want to stay on the wrist, but to rotate around it
    -narrower hand, less legibility
    >Increase in price in Aud is $8925 to $10,900
    ouch, I'm not sure about the newer model, but speedmaster does not offer the quality at the price it asks for in RRP. The gaps between lugs are significantly larger than my Tudor GMT, which RRP for about half of it and has a much nicer bracelet with a lot most adjustability. Then again a watch that just tells time probably should never cost more than a thousand dollars

    Oh and also with that co-axial escapement, it’s not a real Moonwatch anymore, just another very nice luxury chronograph instead...but there are loads of those around already by other manufacturers including Omega themselves. But then I suppose the cal. 321 Moonwatches will be for those traditionalists...if for about twice the price of these 🤷‍♂️

    • @James2001
      @James2001 3 года назад +2

      The 861/1861 models are no more "real" Moonwatches than the 3861, as the only movement to be used on the lunar surface was the 321. Everything else is semantics.

    This stuff is out of my price-range so take my comment with a pinch of salt. F-off with your automatics - we are talking TIMEpieces right? The bizarre thing is how manual movement manufacturers talk about accuracy. 'Three seconds per day' What can one say? 'No this is not good' or just 'F Off'? Seriously the mechanical / automatic movements have their place (like fountain pens) but please stop pretending they are products to buy.
