- The backyard of our new home contains nothing but gravel and a palm tree making it the perfect blank canvas to turn it into something amazing! In this video we will show the entire DIY remodel/renovation from start to finish which includes, pavers, composite decking and framing, redwood benches, new fence and gate build, sun shade sail install, bbq and fire pit install, artificial grass and turf, new gravel, irrigation/ sprinkler system install, plants/ trees and landscaping design, and so much more! Awesome job guys. I’m 74 and my husband and I did a similar job in our yard in southwest Texas where temps were like yours. He’s deceased now and when I want to do something in my yard I get my son’s assistance but I’m certainly not the help I was 40 yrs ago. My hat is off to you. You have to be feeling proud. Freakin Nice bro. I'm impressed by it all but even more so by the help you got from your wife. My wife would never even think to pick up a shovel and dig trenches...even less so in 120 degree heat. Your wife did it at least 2x in this video...and didn't quit after the first two shovels. Impressive. Very impressive.

Amazing makeover! Your dedication and skill level is commendable! You did that! I see some told you that you should’ve installed a drip system. The drip system would’ve saved you water, but the sprinklers will help keep the dust down and create a cooler environment. You can always adjust them to cover a smaller area. Question 1: Why did you use cedar instead of pressure treated pine underneath the composite decking?
Question 2: Did you sketch out your design first or just wing it?
Qiestion3: Was it challenging getting those pavers down and level?

Q#1: We used pressure treated wood. It may look different to you because pressure treated wood has chemicals in it that make it last in that particular environment where you buy it. Pressure treated wood may look different if you buy it in a desert vs. snow/ice climate (don’t quote me on this, just my best guess - If anyone knows, please correct me)
Q#2: We just winged the design and luckily it came out okay. I did have to map out the sprinkler lines. Also, I made sure I can get away with building that deck with the city (without a permit).
Q#3: Pavers challenging? Yes, just a bit. They were a little heavy, ground was hard and it was up to 120 degrees on some days 😅
