Wow, you can still see the hope in his eye
Only the one? Oh, no.
Don't worry, Reality will soon fix that.
It won’t take long for the universe to change that.
Yeah, I could see the other eye losing hope really quick
It’s acting.
By posting all episodes onto this account, you not only give people the opportunity to see some of Last Week Tonight they have never seen before, while also giving people the ability to preserve these episodes past the whims of HBO. Good on ya folks.
And the flavour-of-the-week parent company of HBO.
Do you like that business daddy ?! O, johnny is acting up again !
And also the ability to revisit the old problems that are still unsolved until today😅
Oh...it's preserved in many places but this will be another
@@wyomii Nah, the Business Daddy is the flavor of the month. The name of HBOs streaming service is the flavor of the week.
Nuts to look back into the time capsule of "things are pretty damn bad, but you don't even know what's about to hit you".
Remember the whole.. “just when you didn’t think it could get any worse? “
It’s the whole “Fuck! We’re in the future! I don’t like the future! Take me back!” arc
My thoughts, too. How weird to hear our election talked about without Trump being center stage.
As an Oregonian, it is a little cool to know the first swear words ever spoken on this show were about my state.
We fuck
A badge of honor.
And what does that tell you?
And you were the first use of the satirical redo of an ad that’s more honest. I think that’s way cooler
@@bodenking That's an excellent point.
The casual mention of Trump in the media coverage about the US election hits different now
Did I just stumble onto a time warp? ❤ this!
Ah....the good old days. We need to make America great again, and keep that guy out of the media!
Before Trump, before Modi, we really didn't know what was about to hit us
That's not what "hits different" means
@@bluexroses414 if you weren't alive during the bush presidency, or reagan, or nixon , or ....
They say that the presidency ages you tremendously. Well, it's very clear that reporting on the presidency ages you even more.
Yeah, I watched the latest episode yesterday, this John looks to be about 80 years younger.
I'd say he is aging pretty well. He just turned grey
He's still a very distinguished parrot 😅
I think he's definitely more handsome now, but I'm an old woman.
Rude
It's 2024, Oregon built a new website for the unemployment office and guess what it doesn't work either.
I was like.. wow this episode is still like current news!
All those sweet sweet IT consultation money.
😂😂😂
You travel all the way across the country struggling against river fording, dysentery, mud and hills and when you finally arrive you can't even use the unemployment office?
Oregon still has this same problem to this day. They can't seem to implement big software applications.
"The only agency in government that really listens" is an absolutely awesome slogan for the NSA.
crazy some of us have been watching LWT's youtube channel since 2015 and this is the first time we get to see a full episode
lol yes, I'm peruvian and I've been getting mad at US politics than doesn't affect me whatsoever since 2015
Which it shouldn't be, they've uploaded a couple full episodes before, specifically the 2016 election one was a full episode that was one segment
@@jorgebravo7980 It does though. America is the global hegemonic empire and the choices made have reverberating effects across the world, even in Peru.
The very first video on this channel was the full first episode (and for a while, it was a advert too)
"Our main story"... I've missed so many news recap jokes preceding the main story...
Wow it's like I'll relive the last decade through this lmao
It’s like we didn’t start the… Oliver?
It's almost sad....
Thank you! 😊
Nostalgic hit hard when the first clip was about Donald Sterling😢
Had the same thought
10 years have passed, and it’s interesting how the structure has changed over time.
We’re used to the 25-minute segments that take up most of the episode, but this first episode had several segments of equal length without one dominating the entire thing.
No, we're just now getting the FULL episodes online, not just the main segments.
So much "missing" content for millions to now fully enjoy.
Cheers🥂
I remember watching the first episodes as they came out, and there were a few more interview segments, notably the one in-studio with Pepe Onziema. I’d love to see them be brought back just for the hell of it
@@jenifernewburnThere's still no 'main topic' in this episode.
I've seen some of the full length episodes, and the current format is still different from the older one.
Could you tell which is the main topic here? Technically it's the elections in India, but its length is not longer than the rest of the segments, specially the false advertisement one.
@@saxor96 Do the latest episodes still contain non-main topics? I'm from the EU and only watching the youtube uploads and have no idea what what the rest of the show that I'm missing out of looks like.
@@Fiyaaaahh They do, they're usually small comments about US news, but there's some funny bits like the bird contest.
You can tell how much happier John was back then, he wasn't even beating his desk with both hands yet.
The desk (and the reflection) being flexed every time he beats his desk legit drives me crazy lol. They really should build rebuild it with tempered glass and metal frame.
I believe that years of pointing out illegalities, hypocrisies, and other bullshit that is easily correctible and seeing nothing done about any of it will cause the kind of behavior you describe.
S1 E1 (aired April 27, 2014)
happy 10th anniversary!
Thank you for dating all these episodes!
Jesus, been that long!? happy Anni~
This is wonderful. I can laugh and re-experience trauma and the loss of most of my hope all over again. 😅
Right there with you.
Bingo 😂❤❤❤❤
Hopefully India voted for the right man
Fun fact: Former NSA director Keith Alexander is now on Amazon's board of directors.
Wow! That's fun! I hate it!
Wow! That's fun! I hate it!
Hmmm... "Big brother is watching you"???
"The episode that started it all. Whatever "it all" means in this context."
Love this.
I still remember getting HBO just to watch GOT and Last Week Tonight
I also used to enjoy Bill Maher until the pandemic hit. Since then, I have been avoiding him like I have been avoiding the JRE.
A GoT plus LWT combo rewatch from the start does sound nice.
@@SayAhhhe completely lost his mind, and once that veneer was gone, it became so obvious how narcissistic, self serving, ignorant, and just dumb the guy is. He's absolutely obnoxiously pompous, if pompous was personified, it would be him.
Those are good choices- they also had Watchmen, which might have been my favorite single-season show ever.
John is the only person who could steal my attention from Khal Drogo. Brain, glasses, accent= total package
he looks 25 years younger lmao
America do be like that
Almost thought this is a reupload of an older season of the show
It’s kinda jarring- the voice is exactly the same!
@@ball56 …Because it is
@@YasugoLiehuThey were being sarcastic
There aren't many shows that are brilliant from day 1 and still manage to be brilliant years and years later. Bravo John and the LWT team. Never leave us.
Business daddy gonna be mad as hell John is now posting full episodes instead of just clips! Thank you John!
I'm kinda confused what everyone's talking about, we've been getting the bulk of the episodes for later seasons, haven't we?
@@kleine.kleeblattit’s usually just the monologue though not the whole episode. Like 20 minutes or less
@@jaquanpowell4605 How long is the entire episode?
@@kleine.kleeblatt like 40ish minutes. There’s segments than the main story at least that’s how the show evolved. Usually on RUclips they just upload the main story.
@@jaquanpowell4605 It's the other way around. The monologues are the only thing that's been cut out. The main story is what has been posted, and they only cut out around five to ten minutes of the opening monologue.
Happy ten year anniversary John Oliver! Thanks to you and your artful delineation of current events, I am very depressed.
Your show got me through one of the most stressful experiences of my life.
I was a lowly E-6 in the USAF, and because of a series of no-shows, I ended up being the ranking member of a group of six service-members that had to endure a very difficult training.
The standards weren't relaxed for us, and we worked our asses off. I spent very late nights covering entire dry erase boards with notes, and I wasn't discouraged because I had your commentary from this show playing in the background.
Thank you John.
We passed with flying colors by the way.
LOL. I wouldn't go so far as to say that E-6 is "lowly"; that's middle management! Even as an E-5 in the Navy, I was the senior enlisted medical personnel for some units I was in, second only to the Flight Surgeon, who was typically a Lieutenant. By the time I was an E-5, I was simultaneously running the APU (Ambulatory Procedures Unit), the PACU (Post Ambulatory Care Unit), and the Endoscopy Suite at a Naval Hospital. When I made E-6, I was running Labor and Delivery. I was finishing up my third deployment overall (my second one within a USMC unit) by the time I made E-6. And, for my rating (Corpsman), it takes an average of 8-14 years in service to make E-6 - AKA, half to two-thirds of one's career, assuming one does a fully 20 years to retirement.
I know there are a lot of officer paygrades above an E-6 (and there just are not that many E-7s to E-9s, or Warrant Officers), but the E-4s through E-6s in the Navy were doing the heavy lifting and keeping the fleet running. Likewise with my Marines; many of those shops were being run by Corporals (E-4s).
Which isn't to say you don't warrant a Navy "Bravo Zulu" for job well done! ;)
Technical Sergeants are not lowly they are the linchpins of the enlisted force. 😉
@@Darknamja Where I was, I had to be surrounded by Majors and Chiefs who were all running amok and screaming while I tried to keep a cool head.
I learned just how agonizing having middle-management rank could be.
@@AMortalDefiant For me, it was like "Great! You made Technical Sergeant! Now we're going to still treat you like shit, but we're also going to expect more of you."
One odd discovery I made was when I was working in Dining Halls (that's what the Air Force calls Chow Halls for those wondering why I'd use such a fruity term) we had this standard for our budget variance, which was that at the end of the month our income and expenses had to net within a margin of plus or minus 3%. If you know any Air Force members who worked in Dining Halls, mentioning the dreaded 3% is enough to give them instant anxiety.
I had E-7 bosses who wanted to spin some bullshit about how their jobs were so hard, and that we could never handle the stress of what they do.
Then I became an E-7, and I managed a Dining Hall. That was the easiest job I've ever had in my life.
Tell me if this sounds like rocket science. You examine your average income and expenses for the first three weeks of the month, and then you use that data to plan how you'll balance your budget for the last week. That was it. That was all that I had to do, and I was easily making the 3% margin every month. I don't think that what I did was brilliant, I think that literally EVERY Dining Facility manager in the Air Force before me was very fucking stupid.
you were a what in the what?
So this show WAS amazing from day 1.
Right? Young John Oliver came out swingin
Yes and its only gets BETTER.
I would love if each description included an "Originally aired on" section, just for context and so we can more easily keep track and such
Thank you for releasing your entire library! I hope this isn't foreshadowing like you're going off the air soon or some shit like that.
I wonder if it's the entire library or just the first season.
Either way, I agree with you: I want all of the full episodes from the last 10 seasons, and I want at least another 10 more seasons.
@@coalblooded They are releasing the entire library on here only doing one season a week for now.
it's such an awards darling I think it'll keep going as long as john wants it to
On twitter, they said they will upload a season whenever they're off for the week up to season 8.
@@kingsteve4304 Does that mean there won't be a new episode tomorrow night? If you happen to know.
I have ended up with so many search moments thanks to this show. It has definitely made me a better communicator and person.
What are "search moments"?
I have watched every episode of last week tonight on the day it aired, since they started. I never had HBO until a few months ago. I could never afford it. When I went on there and saw they only have last and this season… I was so mad. Sometimes I go back and watch old episodes just to see how I would view the episodes in this day and age.
We love you Jon & co. You give us the hope we need.
Yo‽ Same!!! Never seen anyone else comment this! I'm sure there's ton but cool to see!
I still remember seeing my first John Oliver episode in my freshman college dorm in 2014. Here’s to the last decade! It was the best of times….it was the worst of times….lol
“It was the best of times….it was the worst of times….lol” ~ alyssastewart738, 2024
Damn, John truly looked 30 years younger 10 years ago.
Before the 'Before times'.
I clicked on this thinking it was the new episode... I am happy that I did!
I don't know if anyone involved with this show will ever see this comment, but I strongly recommend that you put the date the episode originally aired on the description. It'll help give much needed context.
Having ALL the feelings!!!! so many nuggets of memory, had completely forgotten (thankfully) the O'Reilly Factor 🤣🤣🤣
Ughhhh don't remind me.
Classic John reminding us of our own mortality
Really happy to see this, i've been rewatching old segments recently while i do work. Would be nice to have an "original airing date" in the description though, it's always something i like to check.
Yeah that’s a weird omission
Just wikipedia it
@@joebob2311productions ??? Almost every reupload on this platform has the original upload date in the description, if it's become the norm i don't think it's asking for that much
Thrilled to be able to catch the very first episode of the show! Congrats, John!
Aww, look how cute John was before all hope was lost
Clapper set the bar for going along with John's gags that so many over the years have utterly failed to meet. " In the boot" and "The only agency in government that really listens" kinda gave me chuckles.
Yay! Now I can catch up after my 10 year coma. Nothing bad happened right?
Right?!
Fun Fact: I was actually in a 10 day coma due to kidney failure.
Thank you, John & Team, for releasing Season 1!!!!!
Seeing the intro again gave me so much nostalgia. Love this show so much ❤
aww, baby John
Bro was like 36 😳
Oh heck yeah! They're no longer lost media!
they never were lol
My word this is a trip. The vibes haven't changed a bit, and John looks so ready to approach each and every day 😅
“Yeah, I’m thinking I’m back”
Thanks for the years of content!
This show was on fire from Episode 1. Too cool.
You'd never think Trump was on the horizon watching that early 2016 election footage -- and even when he shows up towards the end of it, it's not in too serious a light.
Before we Knew™
Thank you for finally putting the whole episode on RUclips. I used to have to watch a guy from Thailand, but it was hard to always find it. I don’t know why RUclips wouldn’t put the whole episode. Thank you for finally doing so thank you.
I feel bad for the guy in Thailand you're no longer watching 😢😅
I just love how his humor is the same as it was 10 years ago. Happy 10th anniversary!
I don't see quite so much thirsting for horses and stuff like that in these early episodes...
I forgot how many segments there used to be!!
Also, wild how much of a glimpse into the future there was here in the opening episode. Trump, Ukraine, corporate lying, and privacy rights.
this is like seeing a new childhood blanket / toy before years of being chewed on, stretched, and spit out by their loving owner
Hey it's that British guy from Community! Looks like he has a talk show now
I’d love to watch the whole season, but I don’t think I can endure two drumph campaigns at the same time.
Yo you're telling me 😂 I appreciate you refusing to spell his name correctly out of appropriately placed disrespect as I do lmao
OMG, he really went for the great listener. Perked up at that one. I’d vote for it too!
adding the Original Air Date in the post would be petty interesting too
"Originally Aired October 31st 2019" ...ah yes I was a disappointing (MID) Kaneda that year...
All I can focus on is Dragonstone in the background ever since John pointed it out a couple years ago
Dragonstone? I missed that?
I didn't know how bad I needed some John McCain right now. Damn, I miss traditional Republicans.
Sentences I didn't have on my bingo card for 2024 but in hindsight make complete sense: "damn I miss traditional Republicans" 😂
This is quite the nice surprise! Being able to see old episodes like this is a treat.
The prop department on the show is fire. That half globe killed. The magma core made me laugh so quick, i had to spit my Fentanyl McShake ™️ all over my cellphone.
Thank you John, we all love you! I'm Indian and I love pomegranates!
John is insanely good at this ❤ thank You for this decade!
I am SO EXCITED that they've made season one available. I can't tell you how much I love this show!
Over 100K views in a few hours for a 10 years old episode of a news show. I would have expected at least 200K.
Good episode, hope this show gets to be popular 😂
With luck it'll air for at least another ten years
Blessing us with an early episode. What a way to end the weekend.
Last Week Tonight and
John Oliver
awesomeness!
Glad that this awesome show is still going strong in 2024!
Respect to
John Oliver!
This is my best mother's day gift, thank you John & HBO lol. I've truly wanted to see the first episode of MY Sunday Religion 😉
John Oliver always keeps my hopes up.
Amazing how well this has aged. And how much John hasn’t 🤣
Ah hell yeah, they uploaded the entire first season 🔥🔥🔥 Time to binge watch and catch up on the earlier episodes lol
Oh heck. Thank you for loving us so much to post these past episodes.
Oh I can’t wait to binge these😂
Never caught on the first run how Lisa Loeb mispronounces Oregon, no doubt to get further under their skin.
As a native Oregonian, I approved this episode. Thank you John! 😁
Can you please add the original air date into the description for these? We can certainly find them on IMDB, but given that so many of these involve relatively recent events, it seems this really should be included.
adding the original air date of these classic episodes would be helpful
This is fascinating to watch with hindsight we have now.
bringing me back to watching this with my mother in the two room apartment we called home, not understanding anything, thank you❤
I forgot about our debacle of a heath care website. Oh, for those days before 45. 🤯😩
I almost literally just turned 25... I've already had arthritis diagnosed since 14 as severe and advanced... I shudder to think of 45 with these joints. Shiver me timbers 😭 wish me luck!
And pass the WD-40 for my crack-a-lackin Tin Man ass body lmao, I'll need it 😂
So exited to finally watch the first episode!
Thank you, HBO, for making these episodes available on YT. John, brilliant, as always. We need to be aware of what you share.
this is amazing of HBO and the team to provide this content. Big thank you!!
The Don Sterling clip is interesting to see now that there's going to be a movie about him and that whole situation
There is something fitting about that being his first story, as that was a weird premonition of what the 2010s will actually end up being
I literally can't believe that dude is still alive.
Hopefully we can get playlists for the full seasons
The nostalgia of this opening is great
I've waited for these old episodes to be up on RUclips for SO LONG! THANK YOU!!!
Damn this was before the Trump presidency or Crimea annexation
We were so innocent...
Crimea happens during this season (Trump presidency doesn't but he's mentioned in the Miss America episode, sigh, simpler times)
AND IT BEGINS! ♥ YES! ♥
Man things used to be so much better back then.😢 Thank you for sharing.
So excited to be able to rewatch the old episodes in their entirety!

@@muddi900 every major western media has been crying about tyranny and M wipeout for a decade. Even late night show hosts said it at one point. Desi English media has been crying it for more than a decade
I wish the comments were 10-year updates instead of comments on the episodes being uploaded. Oregon still has a non-functional healthcare website, for one.
I like the old format. Called "Last Week Tonight," Oliver used to cover the previous week.
Don't get ne wrong, I appreciate that he is single handedly addressing crisis after crisis in detail no other cable network show, or late night host, ever has done, and it is greatly needed and appreciated, but I do like this old format, talking about what has, and what should have been, talked about the week past.

I look forward to watching the entirety of this new RUclips series of Last Decade Tonight
How many years has it been? John Oliver literally looks and sounds exactly the same now as back then.

4 Trump years = 421 Scaramuchis = 12 regular American years = 72 dogs years...
It was exhausting...
It's so good to see full episodes now, i'm a fan from Argentina.
