- Опубликовано: 9 фев 2021
- A day in the life of a corporate pilot flying the Cessna Citation XL private jet. This flight is from the Scottsdale Arizona Airport to the Spirit of Saint Louis airport. We takeoff from Scottsdale just after the rain passes and climb through the weather. The takeoff and landing show the cockpit view and the ATC and pilot intercom conversations are included. This video shows the 3rd and fourth day of this trip and includes a hike up to Tom's Thumb. The Citation Excel is a 9 passenger mid-sized twin engine jet that has a range of 1,850 NM and cruises at 420 kts.

I never tire of the view when breaking out of the clouds in the climb............truely beautiful!!
14:03 You got a shout out from your traffic.
nice catch
Celebrity status is real with this one!
Everyone at SUS knows who he is, I fly out of the school that’s off the left side of 26R
When the helicopter near spirit said "Ive got Captain Moonbeam traffic" I couldn't help but think how confused the tower controller would be if he wasn't a viewer! Nice vlog!
Great video as always! Good to see you back!
Thanks. It's always good to be back. Where are are you off to today?
Nice way to start the morning, with a new vid from the captain:)

Cap, you're the man. Thx for the video; keep them coming.
You and Mike are dream team.
Always good to see The Moonman still kicking!!
Nice to see a bit of the routine while on layover... Good Video as always Capt.
I’ll have to try that trail captain. Hope you had a good trip out here.
Great hike and great views…. been up that many times
Thanks for letting us ride along!!
That was a wonderful classic. Almost, a bit of everything. Thanks
What a fabulous video
Zipping through the clouds is always amazing to see! Thanks for sharing those spectacular views of the walking trails as well.
Great video captain. I love the good communication between you and Mike, it's so important.
Stay safe sir...
Great video. I love the little excursions to places of interest. I’m a new follower of yours but already you two guys are like comfortable slippers.
God, what I beautiful sight breaking out of the clouds! What a visual sensation! The description was nice read too! 👍🏼🛩☕️
I could not believe the number of chipmunks at the Hoover Dam, they were everywhere!!
Thanks for taking us with you to Tom's Thumb. I enjoyed that as much as the flight.
Great video. Liked your hike. Great views.
Beautiful poetry in motion gentleman. Kudos. Experience you can't buy, it's earned in time!
Thanks Guys! Always a pleasure.
Rich.
Camelback Mountain is a nice hike.....you can say "hello" to the monk sitting on top while you're there.
I did camelback about 5 years ago and made a video of the hike. The phoenix area is great for hiking. Love it.
Glad to see you are back, thanks for the video, be safe my friend.👍✈️
You covered a lot of interest while in AZ - fascinating scenery... plenty of rocks! Return trip sure a bit quicker than the outbound - saved a bunch of gas. Looked like auto pilot was working quite hard in the weather.
Thanks for sharing that Jim - stay safe. :)
Hey, You didn't even break a sweat, Love it. Gets the blood circulating !
love your videos!
The GV in the distance, N727PR @4:40 is Ken Riccis, owner of Flexjet/Flight Options.
I really like watching your vids again. Life is good.
I would love to go there and hit those trails.
Jim, stay out West, it’s too cold here in StL! Love the videos as always.
Great ATC Captain. Love it !
I like more the vlog part than flying part, they are so comfy
Nice to see the Top Golf and mall in the approach...really nice hike...be well
1 of My Goals....Sound like Mike on the radio! Nice video Capt Beam
Hi Jim- this is another nice video of you!!!👌😊🙋♂️
Scottsdale area was one part of the USA I always wanted to visit while I lived in Boston, but never quite found the time being self employed . Now back in Ireland retired to the home country. Ah well, there is another one for the bucket list !! Great video as always Capt`n.
Just discovered your channel Captain and I love it. Can't wait for new material. Can you show us some of your ground ops? Taxi, parking, startup...
Great video again.
love your vids captain thanks
thanks.
Nice work Jim, awesome video as always!
Thanks Richard
You are very fortunate. We are confined to our hotel rooms in Riyadh, nowhere to exercise, gym closed and no flying on the radar. So it's vicarious flying for me via your channel. Let's hope things return to normal soon. Thanks for the videos.
you are so honest. I loved that you face the fact that the breakfast is going to destroy everything you just did to improve your health. Hopefully the climb / hike after breakfast destroyed the ill effects of the breakfast and you are good to go.....
I think I burned off breakfast and lunch on that hike.
Sweet video! Tom’s Thumb is a solid hike! Hope you had a good time in Scottsdale!
Thanks Randy. Yes we did.
Nice way off start the day hehehe i must try too, tanks for sharing capitain
You sure brought back memories. I did some completion centre work over at Jet Aviation (Mid Coast) in Cahokia. My employer had contracted MidCoast to finish 13 Challenger 850s there and in Savannah, so I got to know both cities quite well.
Retired now, and flying sailplanes for fun.
Keep the Blue side up!
Another delightful video, thanks for sharing. good day.
Thanks and a good day to you Michael.
...Good Morning Capt..Always a Good Day when we See your Smiling Face again .....Thanks for Sharing with us all Jim...we are now all Frickin' Freezing out here.. Stuck in this Deep Descending Bi- Polar Oscillation Vortex..
Hi LR. We're getting snow and sub temperatures back home today. Mike and I are enjoying Florida today. It's weird to think we can go from artic type weather to 85 degrees in an hour and 55 minutes.
@@captmoonbeam ..keep on enjoying your time and fun in the sun..best wishes from all of us...and keep on posting.. all your always enjoyable and highly entertaining trips ..
I'm sitting here laughing, knowing I should be on my exercise bike or the cardio-glide just 15 feet away but . . . you're out there braving the cold.
I have family in Phoenix. Will have to get on that trail next time I visit them. Thank you CAPTAIN. Sounds like a maze flying out of KSDL
beautiful clouds and vistas in this video... not to mention airplanes.
Would love to have seen top of descent and approach briefing included thank you Captain
1:48 Tom Thumb Trail - that should be pretty quick.
Great video.
Thanks
Nice video, as always!
Thanks Jason.
Excellent. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Dan.
Great flight!
Hope you enjoyed the step climb.
Hi Garry. Always enjoy flying. Even if it's step by step.
Another nice job.
Love seeing your "Sovereign In The Back ground :)
Great video!
Thanks!
Another nice flight gents
Excelente!
9:33 I thought 0GM @premier1driver, didn’t sound like him though. Nice flight thanks for taking us along as always!
Thanks Adam
Love it👍👍
Thanks👍
Hey Cap, favorite area. Try Camelback next time. Tough trail.
You two make for a well-oiled machine. Well done.
My dad lives about 20mins from there. I have hiked those exact places you did. amazing place.
One of my favorite places to hike.
That unique altitude alert is absolutely the worst!
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone...
Have a great day, Cap.
LOL thanks.
“Jus do it” it is 🤙🏾
That climb was like death by a thousand cuts lol
Need motivation for the walk sometime Jim. Cheers from Downunder.
Hi Robert. you and I both. Sometimes I just have to throw myself out the door.
that was cool. love Key Westl
Thanks
Very cool! Just curious, can you share the Vne on the Excel? I saw a report, might have been on a different Citation, that the Vne was 260, thought that was kind of low. Thanks for sharing!! 8) --gary
I was expecting a Tom Thumb at the top, get you some Nolan Ryan beef!
NIce.
...waiting for the alien mothership to come over the ridge!
Question is ..... would they take 'moonbeam', his #1, or both? Discuss amongst others.
Last time in there we used 7100 ft of runway to rotate. Temp outside was 114 degrees we were loaded. Whew!
That's hot. Days like that make me really feel for the crews without an APU.
You can certainly tell we haven't had much rain for the last year.
Unfortunately we saw a lot of areas on our drive that has fires.
He greesed it in Nicely
I have ATPL theory exams in 4 subjects tomorrow. Great video to calm my nerves and motivate me to do well 😬
Hi Niklas. Go knock it out today😎
@@captmoonbeam Thanks Captain! Passed GNAV and MET but missed POF by one question and RNAV by two.
Although I will appeal the result for POF as there were some unclear questions where perhaps multiple answers were correct. So we’ll see if that changes anything 😁
Question & point of observation. I'm a flight sim hobbyist, never have flown in the real world. During your departure I noticed you were issued climbing altitudes in slow steps (similar to a stepped climb) by departure. Was that due to traffic within your airspace or was that a SID with departure vectoring? & I noticed you turned the anti-ice on prior to decent into the clouds. Active Sky 2016 (weather engine) in my simulator simulates icing like that. Typically when entering a frontal zone and the temperature is warmer at 150 than say 50. I fly the Citation X in FSX. Love your content!
Mikes a damn cool dude... Should have been voice actor in another life!
thank you captain moonbeam: for such a teriffick video fantastickkkk
Great video. As a controller who has worked at ZDC for 30 years, when you climb 1,000 feet at a time, it usually means there’s a ‘faster behind’ and as they climb, so do you.
Thanks Brian. That's a tough job you've got. Respect😎👍
@@captmoonbeam Thanks Captain! Anytime you want to talk Aviation and ATC (especially NE corridor) hit me up! Aviation is the most fulfilling career field, full stop. My daughter is headed to becoming a controller and my son an USAF pilot. It’s contagious.
Look west ya can see us ! Right by Luke AFB
Is everything alright with you as we have not seen you posting things for a while, hope the pandemic did not lost your job or affected your health.
Jim, When your NOT flying Corporate jets or Instructing, do you fly GA or R/C aircraft for pleasure?
Great video! I do have one question-what was originally in place of those GTN 750s? An FMS? I’m guessing the plane didn’t come from the factory with that configuration.
Thanks Alex. The Garmin 750's replaced the two audio panels and the radio heads. We still have the old technology PFD's and MFD tubes.
captmoonbeam Very nice. Whoever did the install did a really clean job. The color-matched bezels make the units look like factory installs!
Hey Captain, please buy a gimbal for your camera as I was getting vibrated way too much watching the vid. 🧐😜
What's the state of the piloting business right now with covid? Has corporate flying slowed down or otherwise been affected.
0GM got in the video!!
Do you just have to find stuff to do while waiting for the passenger / owner to want to fly home? Is it scheduled or on their whim?
We're just looking for something to do while hanging out in the hotel for a couple of days.
No way am I trouble shooting you. On the GTN 750 when you are entering a frequency, i.e. 124.75 all you have to type in is 24.75..
