BIRD ATTACK! on Takeoff and Flying the Cessna Citation in Snow and Rain
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 июл 2024
- A flight in the Cessna Citation XL business jet to Statesville NC. When we arrive to the terminal area we fly through large areas of rain and do an ILS approach into the airport. During the takeoff we were in rain and almost had a bird strike with large birds at 10:25. The complete IFR cockpit view and ATC communications are include. When we return to the spirit of Saint Louis airport it's snowing so we have to do another ILS approach.

Hi Captain. It’s been a while since you posted one of your videos I hope all is well health wise and professionally. Hope to see you soon.
Was about to say the same thing. Haven’t seen him pop up in awhile. Hope to see him back soon!
Hey captain, hope you and the family are well. You’ve not posted in a longgggg time!
No kidding bird attack!!! And the same color as the sky!!!!! At least you had time to keep it down and then rotate to avoid them! Glad all went well! Good job!!!!
I've always found it helpful to say to the flying pilot on short final; "This looks like its gonna be real smooth".
👍✅ Hope you taking a break from youtube and that all is well. I'm sure that I speak for lots and lots of people that have enjoyed your content, hard work and professionalism for years as I have.
The female pilot on the radio was awesome - Her extensive read back was perfect - I could never do that 👍
It’s always great to see you both in the cockpit.. the best crew ever.
It's really nice to see that nice harmony of a teamwork there :))

Another great one! Great to see and hear Mike! Talk about confident professional teamwork!
Always great to fly with you guys, you're so coordinated together. Also I thought I saw a few frames of a funnel cloud.
Always fun and knowledgeable. Thank you both.
A very good cockpit interaction as usual…good to see you were able to avoid those birds…
Great video. Always enjoy your co-pilots voice. 👍👍I’ve been to Statesville to visit race shops always a good trip.
Live just up the road from SVH at HKY. Thanks for showing it.

Another nice one sir, you guys earned your money this trip. Those birds would indeed have done some damage, glad ya missed them.
Great to see the Dream Team back at the controls.
Hey Mike. Good to see you bud.

Greetings from a big fan out of northern Germany (Hamburg :D)
Going next month for my CJ3 type rating. I’m excited. Can’t wait.
My pucker factor was at a 10 when I saw those birds. You guys were as cool as cool can be!
That KSUS tower controller on the way back in is one of my favorite controllers….always positive and energetic!
Mike and the Captain....woot, woot! So glad to see you both. Those birds were something else...and you guys were so cool handling them.
Wao, son tight with almost a birdstrike at the most critical moment (rotation) Happy you’re fine!!!
Gone thru Statesville many times over the years on the way to either Myrtle or FLA. Nice little town.
WHEW! Great flight you two! Excellent, professional job there!
Thanks
Really enjoy watching your execution of crm
Huge fan!
Always enjoy these! My son and his family live in Statesville.
Thanks
Awesome job
Your videos are awesome and you must have nerves of steel.
BTW, your video quality is better than ever
That read back you guys do is amazing. I would probably screw it up.
Good to see Mike on board! Messy weather for sure .. did look rather like a funnel cloud around 6.11... again about 10.40 - hmmm - hard to label as an artifact. At least looked good for VFR landing. Phew, those birds were close!!! Pretty messy too getting back into Spirit - nice to see runway in sight!
All best Jim. :).
Window dirt for second, reflection first
Nice to see mike still flying I thought he retired.
Sure wish I knew you were coming into Statesville. I live just down the road and it would have been my pleasure to have bought you and Mike lunch. Maybe next time.
cool !!!
Capo!! 🙋♂️📸👀👌🖐🏼✈✈✈✈🧿👏
I would have liked to see a shot or two of the race shop.
Good Evening Captain....we're you and the gang out visiting the Petty raceshop by chance??
Have not seen you in a while. Hope all is well
i always like your music
Used fly with a friend in his Cherokee 6 out of Hickory as his safety pilot as he was shooting approaches to keep his ticket current. We've been in 3 near midairs, all shooting practice approaches into Statesville!!! Once I grabbed the yoke to take control to avoid a Cesna which took off directly towards us even though we were making calls on unicom!! Once at night which scared both of us half to death as we could see both pilot & passenger eyeballs as we passed within 20' just under their nose, (they were as surprised as we were!!!). This was back in the late 90's/early 00's so I don't know if it's as busy now as I haven't flown PIC in 15 years due to a failed back surgery :-( Safe travels my friend and be extra careful around Statesville :-) I live about 45 minutes north of there in Lenoir and used to fly out of KMRN, great area to enjoy aviation!!!
Hi Brian. That's too close for comfort. Always gotta be watching for that kind of thing at uncontrolled fields. Good thing you were. Be safe
The ❤️ of Nascar country! ⚠️ Kamikaze Seagulls ⚠️👀! Great flight management is less optimal weather conditions! Those controllers had me ROFL 🤣!
We miss you buddy! I hope all is well :)
Mike!
Was that Statesville, NC (STA) ? Home, Sweet home.
Fantastic video!!!
On the first landing, looked like a tornado off to their left.
BIG BIRDS!!!!
Captain, hope you are doing great! Please upload some more videos. Kind regards from Brazil.
Thanks buddy appreciate it
Yeah, heard Hickory. Control Atlanta airspace.
@baronpilot was just in Statesville in a recent video, too.
Nice video. Glad you were able to make it into Spirit.
What editing software do you use?
Thanks Michael. I use PowerDirector
looking forward to seeing more videos soon
Hi Captian hope eveything is ok are you still flying?
…a morning flight with theCaptain…. Best way to start the day! Mike’s voice on the frequency ….
Next time you come into Statesville or surrounding areas, look me up I'd be honored to buy you a cup of coffee
Flying the Wallace family? Just a guess because of their STL and NASCAR connections.
STATEVILLE NC THTS WERE I STAY👌🏽
Didn't Mike retire? Good to see him back though.
This was last February. One of his last flights. I had originally decided not to make this video due to video and audio problems. When I went back looking for video I decided that I needed to make this one.
Those flying rats brought back bad memories. The insurance company never wants to see another seagull.
One leading edge, an inlet cowling and a rebuild on a CF-34 that had less than 500 hours on it prior to bird ingestion.
They can do a lot of damage. These guys caught us by surprise.
This is ether old or Mike is back.
Still there? It’s been awful quiet.
That was close
The microphone touching the pilot mouth all the time I just wonder if each pilot can have the own microphone
If rejected takeoff would you have had enough runway to stop ?
Where are you Captain?
Where did you go my friend? Haven’t seen any new videos from you lately. I hope all is well with you!
I noticed lots of turns on this trip..
First view!
I want to fly with you anytime Captain
birds over the runway. Looks like simulator training . Scary
Where are you? Did you go to work for South West and can't film anymore ?
is this an old video?
Would it have been proper to do a pilot report to tower when you encountered birds?
Yes. But, the Statesville airport doesn't have a tower.
Is the weather radar info provided by an outside service, or by onboard doppler radar?
We have both. Weather radar on the Center display and composite Nexrad weather display on the two Garmin 750's
@@captmoonbeam Wonderful, thank you Captain! :-)
So Long.!
Hey you alright?
I thought you said, in a prior video, that Mike had retired?
He did. This was a video I had shelved for several reasons. But, when I came back to it I felt like it had potential and I needed to finish it.
@@captmoonbeam ohh ok. That makes sense lol. Always enjoy your vids 👍🏽
I'm gonna guess that had you pulled up into those birds that would have been the end of that airplane.
At best, It would have been a mess.
Did you retire?
Hi. Went back looking at videos I've already looked at. Needed my captainmoonbeam fix.
I'm not a pilot but I cannot get over how great the visibility is, at least for your GoPro, in the Caravan. Is it really as good from the captains seat as my visibility is watching your flights?
Looks like Mike "Kind of Retired" lol
I was about to type the same thing. 😁
@@mitchwinder1204 Capt. Moonbeam stated in another comment that this was from Feb. 2021, just prior to Mike's retirement. He must have some older flights that he is editing and putting out.
@@UTarcher72 I missed that. Thank you.
