Another excellent infight video Greg. Well done!!! Seeing the TCAS system working was very interesting. There was some amount of traffic around your aircraft during that approach. I felt a little nervous especially when we saw that aircraft below and to the side of you. It would be nice if you were able to inset the PFD/NAV with TCAS to the left side of the video for us techno geeks to view for the entire flight, but I understand that this would probably require two seperate cameras and mounts to achive this and perhaps a fair bit of editing work for you too, but I think it would look pretty cool and I think us data geeks would love it. Maybe a future idea for you:) Have you ever made a video of your walk around of the aircraft as it would be interesting to see what checks you do externally and I'd love to see a close up of the landing gear, engines, or other externally accesible systems on your aircraft. Looking forward to the next video. John Morrison
+Big Bang Hi John- that idea would be easy for me to do...I just don't know how to gauge the interest level. Let me see how many thumbs up your comment gets. I have a walk around on the production schedule for this summer. Thanks for watching!
+Premier 1 Driver Greg, I agree with John. I would appreciate a PFD/MFD/Nav "picture in picture" type layout. I hit a thumbs up. As always, your dedication to providing high-quality, edited flight videos is greatly appreciated...!
I have Multiple Sclerosis and I am 100% Disabled. Watching your wonderful videos are the only way to travel for me. Thank you for doing your videos keep it up please there great!
As a former airline captain I would like to complement you on your ATC skills. Top notch! One thing that our training flight department (KLM) was always strict on: reply of the Pilot Flying on (automated) calls and readouts. e.g. five hundred would be answered by cleared or standby. TCAS resolution should always be adhered to and announced to ATC : TCAS climb. There's no such thing as ignoring a TCAS resolution. Safe flying to you sir.
he did not ignore it. even before the RA he arrested the descent. after the RA he pitches up quite a bit you can see the speed dropping significantly while he pushes up the power. but as has been correctly said he saw it so no further climb necessary.
Speaking of the Phoenix area traffic, you won't believe this. At around 7pm on Saturday 9/17/16 an aircraft carrying 4 sky divers, went down in the back yard of a home 200 feet from my house in Gilbert, AZ The skydivers got out while the pilot went down with the aircraft. Despite the fact that the aircraft exploded into 100+ foot flames the pilot survived with some burns, but he will survive. For the full report just Google "Aircraft crashes into backyard. The cops closed down all the area streets, locking me in for the night
Not sure if you know, but they took you on the bravo transition. There's a manmade lake on the Firebird Raceway right near where you were at the 20 minute mark and that's the start of the bravo transition. They then fly you north straight over the threshold of the runways in use. If they're using the 25s and 26 like they were in your case then they put you on the east transition. If they're using the 7s and 8 they put you on the west transition. I've done it in the 172 a couple times, really cool! Also all those targets at 16:51 are VFR guys in the practice area most likely from Chandler or Gateway
Beautiful Video! Love the PRM1, Must be a joy to fly. Although I'm not a fan of the Proline 21 Avionics, I get along with garmin a lot better. I'm tracking you on radar at the moment currently just above Knoxville airport at 40,000.
Really enjoy watching you video's, thanks for taking the time to upload them, it's really appreciated. I have a question, if TCAS gives you an alert with avoiding action but air traffic gives you conflicting instructions, which one do you follow, are you required by law to follow one over the other?
Howdy Sir, hope you're doing well. I love your videos! Thank you so much for taking the time to film, edit and post! Just wondering, how come more friends/family members don't prefer sitting up front with you vs. back in the cabin? I know If I had the opportunity, I'd be calling shotgun every time!
I invite you to lunch at KSDL and then as I'm going through older videos to get caught up I see you've already been here. Not to worry though; when you were here, that restaurant on the field wasn't even built yet. Guess you'll just have to come back! It is a little odd going through the older ones. Hm ... plane doesn't look quite right ... oh yeah, paint job. Panel is weird somehow ... oh yeah, been redone. The jet is better ... stronger ... faster ... Great video, Greg! Thanks, Greg
good lord, the ATC that day....wow. endless. and naturally, for this metro area..expected. but jeez....that tower controller was non-stop. becomes rather annoying just having to 'take all that in'. you'd think you'd lose track of when he's calling you, due to the endless 'rapid fire chatter'...to all the others. great views and flying here P1
PHX has a East and West transition depending on current traffic flow well at least for VFR traffic when we do bravo transitions. So when we ask for a transition they tell you cross PHX on the East or West transition and that means you cross the ends of the runways on the East or West end at what ever altitude they gave you but in your case they gave you a heading that seemed to put you over the middle. Welcome to Phoenix :-)
man this stuff brings back memories......used to keep our plane at Falcon field till we moved to Paradise Valley,,,,,,new plane, new field Scottsdale...wasn't much out that way back then...........Man, I am old!
love the videos!!!!.. former pilot haven't flown in 27 years but you've sparked my interest again!!! (never really lost it)...Would love to get a Tshirt.. How can I get one??
"That was sporty" What an understatement... LOL... Greg, you ARE a true professional and have ice-water running through your veins at all times! Planes in literally ALL directions around you... Did I also hear a Bonanza returning to Scottsdale due to an open door lined up behind you? All you needed was a couple of thunderstorms in the mix to make it TRULY 'sporty' eh?
TCAS looked like a mushroom farm, Kudo`s to your ATC in Phoenix, they earn their pay checks....!! And as arid and inhospitable that this area might look, i actually think it`s very appealing and beautiful to see, Look forward to your next journey.
Although this was back in 2016 that Scottsdale Controller was as busy as that female controller I heard in 1 of your videos just the other day in I think it may've been Atlanta!! You even said in the video damn she's busy!! Busy is 1 thing but for the TCAS to go off twice the 1st of the two times without warning I certainly have to agree with you Hell Yeah it was Sporty!!! LOL. If & when the TCAS goes off are you obligated to File a report on that sort of thing??
I am going to get into Para-Motoring in the Chandler AZ area. I'd really like to hear what pilots think about them and how to keep it safe. Just my personal thought, but I think it's you guys that have the right-of-way up there. Care to comment? I see vids on here of guys flying to 10k which I think is ridiculous. I mean, wouldn't I be FAA regulated and have to have a Nav/Aero radio or something to keep everyone safe? Even if not regulated, that's the route I would take, so where do I learn how to use one? Please comment.
Watching this approach and landing makes me glad your doing it and not me. To much traffic to close for me. I know it's not, but seems uneventful up high until you get in busy airspace. Then the work begins. Your a master Obewan. Once again great videos. Like the PFD View from passenger side. Just my personal opinion. Lets me observe more. Thanks Again.
It does take finesse to deal with the number of airports so close to each other in the East Valley, my field Falcon Field is under the east to west landing pattern at Sky Harbor, aircraft are guided down the Salt River (dry) from Roosevelt Lake area, today ATC had a double row of commercial jets for 25 and 26 looking too close to each other, kind of an optical illusion, To the south is Phoenix-Mesa Gateway where Allegiant does their thing. Its ohard to figure out why it was necessary to take you on a milkrun, crossing PHX , AZA landing patterns. Just to the west of Scottsdale is Deer Valley airport, I have to give the main controller a lot of credit in keeping everyone separated. I have never been around Scottsdale with landings to the north, I can only imagine there was some wind although I heard no warnings. The only real hazard into Scottsdale to my knowledge are the folks landing to the south on 3 final and clipping the fence.
Appreciate this upload, my son Sherman lives in albuquerque! I sent this video to him, n had him notice the MOUNTAIN range just b4 the city..we FLY down, n the cops just keep eating their doughnuts n coffee! ;)
We had the Pilatus PC24 light jet doing flight tests here at Stornoway Airport, Western Isles of Scotland. Climbs, descents, wing icing tests, tight turns etc. Sounds like its a sporty airplane. Hopefully they will carry out more tests today as well:) If I get video, I will post to utube.
I can't claim to understand much of this stuff, but it is very impressive to watch someone operate and navigate a highly complex machine through a nightmare of jargon, numbers, potentially lethal landmarks and other aircraft in such a calm and disciplined way. Please don't give me any analogies about Swans on water, it would spoil the illusion. I came across you by random chance and I think I have now watched every single video you have. It really is quite engrossing. Happy flying. :)
Wow. What an airspace. I hold a single engine land license flying in Houston airspace. I've not run into a coms work load like Pheonix's. It makes me wonder about the work load differences between USAF flight Ops and civilian flight ops. What say ye?
At 10:19 you had a single engine spinner at your 8 o'clock , at 3-4K feet on the far left side of the video. I would Imagine that was the traffic. I can't see tracking you on any thing but a straight on landing at SCF. 90% of the landings are north to south, no where near PHX. Beautiful piloting
Busy busy busy , definitely need to be on your Metal getting into Scotsdale Aerodrome Arizona😢 not for the faint of heart 😂 i had forgotten just how Arid Arizona is , Water is like Gold or other Rare Earth Minerals ... 😮
I guess the mountains off the approach end of 21, makes for a pretty tight base leg and short final.. Probably arriving from the east they have to do some sort of overhead approach. There's a published RNP approach that looks just as "sporty" as the visual.
One of those "I need a beer." flights. I know that area has a lot of flight training activity but some of those pilots need to work on their radio etiquette!
Now that is service, you taxi up to your tie down and the rental car pulls right up for your passengers... very nice. Scottsdale is a very busy airport along with Falcon Field in Mesa. Enjoy your flights as always.
Great lines, with experience you can keep up with the controls and understand the ATC details. Our video pilot is exceptional with a perfect personality to do what he does, cool, competence , serious when needed. He has trained himself to stay 5 miles or so ahead of his aircraft. We may not come close to his natural level of expertise, but you might surprise yourself with training and repetition. Hit your local GA airport take a lesson from the Cessna training school and see what you think. I had taken lessons using my father in law's STOL Mahl, then I got with Cessna for more instruction which was incredibly fun after all the time in a taildragger which was very difficult in comparison. The introduction price is very reasonable.
Scottsdale is a fun airport to fly to. When I did some pattern work there, I was amazed at how many high end planes there were. One thing about that airport is there is an INSANE amount of money flowing through that place.
That definitely sounded like a frustration sigh there after arrival. Another great video Sir. I know its an older video, but i am enjoying all of them!
I really appreciate watching all your videos. I lost my medical several years ago and now teach at FlightSafety. I get to fly through yours and others videos. I enjoy yours especially because I'm a conservative pilot as well. My dad was an AF pilot and he inspired my brother and me to become pilots. I flew for PSA Airlines, flying CRJ700s. Miss flying them but I've got a great job now playing w our wonderful sims! If you're ever in Orlando stop in and say hi. I'll give you a ride in the Mustang! 😎
nice video and the sound sounded more crisp are you tweaking it. Question, what are those silver blades on the wings . I think I see two on each side, I have never seen them on other jets at least that I can remember. thanks
It was interesting to hear how busy that one air traffic controller was. Vector after vector after vector. It's amazing the controller even had time to think.
Just when I think you can't do any better videos than what you've posted previously, you do this! Wow. I've flown into PHX-Scottsdale-Mesa many times so I know the area well. I couldn't believe it when they routed you all the way around by Chandler and then up across PHX! And then the TCAS and video of the conflicting traffic buzzing by - awesome trip if not a bit nerve wracking. Great job :-)
KSDL, where I learned to fly, and where I worked for years. Now I live just North of Luke AFB. F-16 & F-35 flights over the house all the time. Welcome back to the desert. Excellent videos. Thank you. I look forward to them.
Interesting how the controller gave the Cessna ( "TA" ) a left 360, considering he was 200 below you and behind. Very cool head despite how close the Cessna was. There's more aircraft on the screen then Golf Courses!😀 Enjoyed your Flight in to KSDL!!
Really enjoyed your going over some of the avionics explanations with your Pen as Pointer :-)!!!! A little busy at Scottsdale ATC I'd say......Great video!
great videos! That seemed quite intense, controller was certainly busy. I'm not a pilot, but I sure admire your coolness.. And I'm learning a lot from you in whats involved in flying. Keep the vids coming, I'm hooked...
Another great video. I'm surprised how little warning you get from the TCAS. When you were cleared for the visual approach does that remove the altitude restriction? I didn't hear approval to descend lower.
Another great video, thank you Capt. I'm hooked, having watched all your videos. Perhaps in a video to follow you might mention airspeeds you use when encountering turbulence, especially in the descent? The Turbo Commanders for example have a low Va, a weak issue in an other wise interesting aircraft.
Thanks Greg for the videos you post. This one brings back memories from my flying days. I forgot how busy Scottsdale is especially on a great flying day like the one you arrived in. The Phoenix airspace has become a zoo since I had to quit flying (Pacemakers tend to do that). Keep up the nice work, and the work you are doing to promote youth in aviation. In the Navy we'd say Bravo Zulu for a job well done !!
Premier 1 Driver - doesn't the amazing vastness of the desert out there continue to amaze you??!?! It does to me. Just think what it must be like over in Dubai! PS Thanks again for your awesome videos man.
That had to be absolutely the busiest atc controller Iv ever listened to lol. Is there a reason there was so much going on with that particular airport or is it just that busy around that part of Arizona? Also was it sometime that wasn't supposed to happen when that guy crossed u 500 feet below and u never saw him? Great video thanks for sharing.
+phillip hadaway Hi Phillip. I think Scottsdale is generally pretty busy. I did see the traffic and you can hear me call the tower and tell him I have it in sight. I suspect it was closer than anyone would have desired and I would have preferred that he held me at 3500 until the conflict was over.
Outstanding! I am an old pilot who can only dreamed of having the talent and equipment that you do! God bless you and I thank you for giving me this opportunity to keep dreaming! Kudos my friend! (Thumbs up)
Thanks for sharing PD1. On one of your next videos I would like to see more of the instrumentation when you are explaining how it is working but I know you cannot have cameras everywhere :-)
Thanks for another great one! Really enjoyed seeing how the TCAS system worked in your jet. I think I might of been a little white knuckled after seeing how close that traffic was!
That sigh at the end really brings it home. I do the same thing every time I see I have a flight to the Phoenix area. Always busy and the controllers try their best but it just feels like they are overloaded. Hope you didn't have to wait 30 minutes for a release out of Scottsdale.
WOW. There was was so much going on in this video . I had to watch it a couple times just to hear all the air traffic. Also that Cesena that flew under the wing. Do you feel that was to close for your standards? Awesome video.
As always, your dedication to providing high-quality, edited flight videos is greatly appreciated...!
+Premier 1 Driver I agree with John also.
Sounds like there is quite a bit of interest. I'll get something together soon. Darn work keeps getting in the way of video production.
I really enjoy watching and learning the instruments- I always see IAS but where do instruments show the true airspeed? Never see that...
Man that CTR controller was on fire, very cool!!
Absolutely. He was doing a great job.
Professionalism, efficiency and complete competency on display.
Yah , cool
Sweet flight. Very busy ATC near Scottsdale. Thank god for TCAS, eh?
Great video, that was one busy approach controller! Love the commentry of the ToD, very informative :)
You flew directly over my house and into my home airport! Cool to see it from a jet perspective, great video as always!
TCAS Alert around 25:40 for those intrested
The first FD call out was around 16:45
tubadammit69 Why did he ignore the TCAS RA?
He had the traffic in sight and likely determined it wasn't a factor.
he did not ignore it. even before the RA he arrested the descent. after the RA he pitches up quite a bit you can see the speed dropping significantly while he pushes up the power. but as has been correctly said he saw it so no further climb necessary.
@@gbowne1 i was in awaiting position for next call "PULLLLL UPPPPPP" !

Can't thank you enough for posting these videos. This is all the flying I get to do anymore and I love it.
Thanks Brad!
Amen, the explanations and watching you run through the checklists in those gorgeous jets is prime time.
Good flight seem to come down a bit hard is that standard for that sort of jet ? Cheers
Also, would love for you to show off the TCAS and what those other aircraft icons are telling you... THANKS!
Outstanding video. Congratulations from Brighton UK
That was a superb video my friend!! very intense with TCAS aircraft proximity very very awesome.
Amazed at how watchable your flights are. Big fun. Keep them coming!
mesquite is the call sign for my flight school based out of deer valley. Busiest class D in the country
Nice video. Well done. Thanks for letting me fly with you. It's almost like actually being in the plane! You have a new fan!

I have a question, if TCAS gives you an alert with avoiding action but air traffic gives you conflicting instructions, which one do you follow, are you required by law to follow one over the other?
+Just Wayne You can follow the TCAS and advise ATC that you got an RA and deviated.
Cool, you flew right over Gold Canyon RV resort, I can see my motorhome!

That ATC Guy from PHX (starting about midway on the video) sounds like Sargent Friday from Dragnet
Your constant state of calm and control would be a source of confidence for any passenger.
Scottsdale Airport..like a Saturday fire sale/senior food give-away :-)

40 years in AZ. This gave me the time to reflect. The ATC let me know how it has grown. Thanks. Call Sign Sun Devil, of course. (Retired in Seattle)
I love Phoenix and Scottsdale, especially this airport. Enjoy your work!

Another great video! Love the new introduction. Keep the videos coming :)

Greg where are your standby instruments? eg Attitude/altitude/turn and bank, etc, in case of total failure of the electronics.
I’m guessing that you were no stranger to the Phoenix area if you trained in the F16 at Luke AFB.
Question: When you hear radio broadcasts from other aircraft that are broken and chopped, what is the reason? Bad frequency, bad radio?
I think I see two on each side, I have never seen them on other jets at least that I can remember. thanks
So I guess the tower has alot to say about your fuel bill total. You mentioned not good to be low on fuel on approach here.
It was interesting to hear how busy that one air traffic controller was. Vector after vector after vector. It's amazing the controller even had time to think.
Busy environment and TCAS alert. Pucker factor!
SW Airlines is always cruising around your air space it seems. Good airline.
A whole bunch of traffic near the end. Excellent flying skills!
"Sporty", it certainly was. Busy ATC people!
great videos! That seemed quite intense, controller was certainly busy. I'm not a pilot, but I sure admire your coolness.. And I'm learning a lot from you in whats involved in flying.
Keep the vids coming, I'm hooked...
at 5:17 what is a emer mic? is that to make the microphone stay open if there is something going wrong?
Another great video. I'm surprised how little warning you get from the TCAS. When you were cleared for the visual approach does that remove the altitude restriction? I didn't hear approval to descend lower.
+MrMihawes Yes, visual approach is clearance to descend. Thanks for watching!
Loved the "sporty" description...... "buttock clenching" would have been my interpretation. Great video as always Greg, thanks for taking the time.
Sporty indeed! Very busy in AZ ... must be Spring break! Nice new Profile pic! Go AF! Thanks for the great flights!
Excellent video as usual. You never disappoint...."Sporty" arrival indeed. Lots of fun to watch. Thanks for sharing
(Thumbs up)
25:18 is TCAS alert for anyone wanting to know!
Thanks for sharing PD1. On one of your next videos I would like to see more of the instrumentation when you are explaining how it is working but I know you cannot have cameras everywhere :-)
man that was a close call.... @25:42 for anyone wondering....
I work at the Signature Flight Support building in KSDL. Good looking airport, but man the traffic can be tough to handle sometimes.
"Sporty" - Love it! No white knuckles for you.
What an awesome approach! I kept waiting for you shave off the greens on the golf course.
Very Busy AIRPORT!
You flew over the vicinity of my house on your approach to SDL. I've always wondered how that landing would look in a jet; now I know, thanks!
Good video. Busy place Scottsdale. Enjoyed it as always.
Great Commentary Could Do A Little Bit More Of Talking. Great Video To. Love Your Channel.
Thanks for another great one! Really enjoyed seeing how the TCAS system worked in your jet. I think I might of been a little white knuckled after seeing how close that traffic was!
Welcome to freaking Phoenix eh? Can we get a few more planes in the airspace?
Greg, that was one busy controller on 123.7.
Great video! If you are ever at KRFD getting 390GM serviced let me know! I live 2mi from there!!
