I had a really rough week, but having my weekend start with a new episode of Yu-Gi-Oh History is a sign that this thing is going to turn around. Love these videos, thanks for continuing to put them out!
This was the deck I got my 1st and only Regional Top 8 with. I didn't have Pot of Dualities at the time because I was a broke college student but eventually they got reprinted. Fun times.
Can't believe we both uploaded a GK video on the same day haha This must be a sign of good things to come for GK's! The 2010's was deff a peak time for them!
I think its important to note how good formula monarch was during this time. As someone who has gone back and played this format, formula monarch can easily run away with the game if they get rolling, with fishborg, formula, treeborn and multiple avarice, they have a lot of resources and they can draw multiple cards every turn and continue to roll you you with monarchs and big level 8 and 9 synchros.
Love to get another upload from Joe "If You're Playing Gale" Giorlando. GK is so interesting to me in historical context because the strategy is very... stifling. One of the earlier "protect the floodgate" type decks. So in a modern context, decks like this would be pretty disliked I think by the playerbase. And yet GK is one of the most beloved archetypes, probably because of its connection to the DM era characters/cards. I loved the 2011-12 formats; the last that I played before coming back a couple years ago. Always a cool mix of consistent control like GK, Hero Beat, and TG vs. combo-centric and recursive boards like Dino Rab (later on), Flamvell and Plant Synchro, and Blackwings. Such a fun era.
This format's Infernity deck is my favorite because it was when Trishula made the deck catch up with the rest of the tier 1s this format. Only got beat by Tengu Plant in YCS Providence. But Gravekeeper's is also a really fun deck. Clicked on this video so fast. Edit: comment was made before seeing you bring up Infernities at the end lmao. Good stuff
I actually played Gravekeepers at my own antionals. I didn't have access to a lot of the more expensive cards at the time, so I couldn't play Plants. Unfortunately that meant I didn't have Duality or Warning either , so I had to make do with inferior alternatives like Allure and BTH. I remember playing against tons of Plant decks.
Me and some friends have been playing YCS Indianapolis 2011 Format lately. We initially tried 2011 NAWCQ, but we wanted Agents and Tengu Gadgets to be better so we decided to move towards YCS Indy for the Xyz Starter Deck to be legal. It's been a lot of fun actually, I've been playing a lot of Glads and Tengu Plant, and we've been tinkering with stuff like Offering Utopia Gadgets and Fabled Tengu.
I could be wrong but was trap dustshoot and mind crush x3 not also heavily played in GK at the time? I feel like that was a lot more popular than 7 tools.
This deck needed xyz’s so much, also GK spy being 2500 def with necrovally is so important to tank machina fortress/legendary six samurai Shi En/stardust dragon
The 3 seven tools and dimensional prisons gives the deck bad match ups vs decks that dont play traps like lightsworns and herald agents(especially herald since they will never attack with their boss monster so dimensional prisons will be useless)

I love GK's!!! I really like the artworks, great profile Joe!

Would love to see you return to the actual duel action demonstrations

A worm deck profile would be fire🔥🔥🔥

Welcome back my guy ❤
This was 1st deck I took to a tourney I then went to hero beat great times

Not when Heavy Storm was banned. 7 Tools was a borderline staple in a lot of these type of decks.
Yo Joe any chance you can do an X-Saber profile for tengu plant format?
Maybe at some point.
This deck needed xyz’s so much, also GK spy being 2500 def with necrovally is so important to tank machina fortress/legendary six samurai Shi En/stardust dragon
Gravekeeper’s guard becomes staple during dino rabbit format, 2400 def with necrovally tanks laggia and dolkka, bounce laggia back to extra deck.
The 3 seven tools and dimensional prisons gives the deck bad match ups vs decks that dont play traps like lightsworns and herald agents(especially herald since they will never attack with their boss monster so dimensional prisons will be useless)
Lets get a duel video of gk vs samurai or x saber maybe
I see Joe post a video, I listen.
I saw a while ago you played PAK with x sabers in plant format. Any shot you’d post a deck profile of it here?
I know you did ddt. But you should do airblade turbo =)
Share if you play
Cool to see the upstarts in here, any reason you weren’t on allure also? Seems like a perfect inclusion.
