    They used the 767 because of maintenance being done to several of HAL 717s. Also with the influx in traffic during that time. It was only for a very short amount of time. The normal is always a 717 for neighbor island flights. During this time period several 717s were being painted with HAL new Pualani livery.

    • @Blue_Line_Member
      @Blue_Line_Member Год назад +1

      Wow, what a fact! I knew that all the 717s was being painted with the new Pualani livery, and I can say that the 767 was taking all 717s inter-island flight services for the new livery. As it was being painted, the 767 cannot retire until all of them are all painted. So the 767 had to fly a little bit longer so they can be finished! The 767 had to do carry on the inter-island flights so the customers won’t get there flights delayed and give the airline a bad reception.
      Rest In Peace 767-300!

    I used to fly the HA B767 from LAX to LIH often. The service was only offered at certain times of the year, usually summer, and it was the only time a nonstop was offered on that route. It was a great aircraft! I love the A330’s, but the 767’s were great aircraft!

    • @SIHAviation
      @SIHAviation  5 лет назад

      Yes, the 767 was a great aircraft but the A330 cabin is a lot nicer (especially in first class). I have a pair of the old A330 first class seats in my house.

    Definitely awesome way of flying in a short route on a classic 767

      Yeah it was fun to be on one of their older aircraft again. Especially for a short 20 minute flight!

    Oh Kaui, although I've never been it's my Dad''s favorite, Mom's is Maui.
    I love em all whether I've been on them or not.
    Such gentle engines, so peaceful like the islands!! Wonder what kind of engines they are. I know this was posted a while ago but I see when they come up on you tube.
    Anyway, sweet flight. Thanks for posting, Mahalo

    The largest commercial aircraft to fly to Lihue was United DC-10’s after their DC-8’s during the 80’s and 90’s.

    I believe the reason for the short flight between LIH and HNL on the 767 is because of the 6500’ runway, the runway isn’t long enough for a fully loaded 767 with passengers and fuel to takeoff , it can land fully loaded with passengers and minimum fuel therefore it has to fly to HNL and pick up more passengers and top off with fuel, UPS started flying their 767’s direct from Ontario, CA to LIH but that change to Ontario to GEG to LIH then to HNL, or Ontario to HNL to LIH to GEG

    Hey that’s ʻĀ!! God, I almost forgot about this manu. Kaumaha nui they retired her. I believe she was only one of two mokulele in their fleet that didn’t receive the wingtips.

    Quick take-off/short rotation!

    • @UAL012
      @UAL012 4 года назад

      it makes sense with a short roll. The 767 has a pretty good flight range and when it does a short hop, it's power will pin you to your seat because it doesn't have as much weight to push.

    Very nice video of a very short flight! I was guessing the distance between Lihue and Honolulu to be around 250 miles or so- NOT! It’s only 102 miles according to on line flight distance calculators! 😮

    Nice video! When I was last in Lihue, waiting to board a Hawaiian 717, I saw a 767 depart for Los Angeles. It surprised me because the LIE runway is comparatively short.

    • @SIHAviation
      @SIHAviation  6 лет назад +1

      Both runways are 6,500 feet

    • @wotan10950

      SIH Aviation Yikes! That’s short for a nonstop to the West Coast. But the 767 is known to have extra power. I once landed in a 747 on Newark’s runway 29, 6800 feet! It’s on RUclips.

    • @SIHAviation
      @SIHAviation  6 лет назад +1

      Nice! I remember when United started flying their DC-8s to Lihue. Then it changed to the DC-10 for a while. Of course, that was just between Lihue and Honolulu before the nonstops to the West Coast started.

    • @jasonbabila6006
      @jasonbabila6006 5 лет назад

      SIH Aviation I think there are still plans to lengthen one of the two runways to 7000’ or 10,000’, I’ve read something about it a couple of years ago

      I’m wondering why the state didn’t install ILS for Rwy 17 when aircrafts have to occasionally land on 17 during wind changes?

    Nice flight. One comment, however: something very wrong with the video. Quite often, it tended to undulate; or, have a waving motion to it. Otherwise, nice video.

    Surprised they would even be able to fill that big of a plane for that route, was probably fairly empty.

      Actually, first was fairly empty but the rest of the plane was basically full.

      SIH Aviation - So it must have a light fuel load for such a short takeoff and high rate of climb.

    Why use 767?

    • @SIHAviation
      @SIHAviation  6 лет назад +3

      There is a nonstop flight from the West Coast to Lihue. That aircraft then flies to Honolulu. There is another flight from Honolulu to Lihue on the 767 and that aircraft then continues on to the West Coast.

      Vadim Goeke:
      Fuel is much cheaper on Oahu......and with Kauai(as the destination) not always having high Passenger-Load Factors to and from the Mainland...stopping in Honolulu ensures the plane will most always have a Load-Factor of 75%+ annually with the two stops.
      Hawaiian also has some decent Cargo,Freight, and mail contracts...something like a ETOPS 737/A320 Series from the Mainland can't do (without passenger/fuel weight penalties) with such low Maximum Take-Off and Landing Weights.

      SIH Aviation Kill 2 birds with one stone. The Lihue/Honolulu segments cater to the locals (and tourists too, of course,) while the flights to and from the mainland are mainly vacationers, I would think. There are, of course, other inter-island flights besides this one.
