Wow, HUGE props to anyone who even attempts this song much less pulls it off. Awesome!
LLB nover shys away from a song for difficulty. These guys are amazing..😊
I was literally going to respond with the EXACT SAME comment. This is not a song for the timid. Hearing it on a Tele just adds to the suprise. (EDIT: Wait a minute! Did you actually have Tommy Taylor -- THE Tommy Taylor -- sit in for that performance on drums? If so, hats off again...)
@@stratfanstl Yep, that is the Tommy Taylor. He is listed in the credits in the video description.
@@stratfanstl It was definitely me! Thanks for noticing! Loved it. We did Ride Like the Wind too!
He's one HELL of a guitar player. Was so amazing that Tommy Taylor came to play! We loved every single minute of the show and can't wait for next year
Wow! I can't believe he pulled that off as well as he did! Few can!
Bravo, Sir! Bravo!
Roger Coleman is one of the best guitarists around glad he’s a pikecountian
My fingers ache just watching this! Wow nice job
As I quietly out my guitar back in the closet. Bloody outstanding performance by literally everyone but in particular the drummer and the guitarist of course.
Reasonable!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 awesome job
EPIC
You guys are so awesome and never disappoint. This is my favorite all time instrumentals and y'all nailed it!!
Holy $h!+! A note for note cover of Eric Johnson "Cliffs of Dover" Kudos to the musician. How about some something for Joe Satriani's "Surfing With The Alien" or "Summer Song", Steve Vai's "The Audience Is Listening". Thanks for the show
Pretty good sound for a 3 piece.....
I just revisited this for the first time since September. I read ALL the comments. Thanks to every one who gave it a listen. Thanks to everyone who "got it" and loved it. There are a couple of critics in every woodpile. I've been associated with this song for nearly 40 years. I tracked the original album version and the Austin City Limits 1988 version. I've played this 1000s of times. No person or group who plays a cover of ANY song is going to BE the artist who originally tracked it. LLB are amazing artists at getting the nuances of a tune right. This a bit of a departure from what they would normally do. Roger and Vandee worked very, very hard on this. I came to play the part I have always played. I know every nuance of this piece inside and out. Roger pretty much knocked that out of the park. Eric was duly impressed. I know how this is supposed to feel. If it's not really well done it wouldn't be easy for me to play along with. It was like playing with Ej and any of the bass players who we've worked with. There are no flies on this performance. It's never the same way twice when Eric plays it live. In true LLB form, this is actually closer to what is on the record than most of the times I've played it live in concert. TT
Really great to hear that EJ has seen this! I've seen you play it live with him several times, and he always changes it up a little. Roger did a good job playing a very difficult song!
You played superbly well, Tommy. I enjoyed the entire performance. It was evidence of pure God-given talent combined with years of practice and passion to achieve such a level so close to Eric Johnson's playing. Kudos to you, Roger and Vandee!
You tracked what?!! That is divine work, man. What a staggeringly incredible resume and this performance is quite impressive. He is one of the more elusively difficult guitarists to cover. His note choices, tone, technique, swag, it is nearly impossible for mortal men to do it. You got it down.
Tommy. Thank you for being a part of this event. Such incredible emotions came out of this for me! Not a fly on the wall!
Wow!!! THE original EJ drummer, the amazing Tommy Taylor, whom I've admired for decades, has his say. This is simply one of the best songs of all-time hands down. You're an extraordinary drummer. I taught myself to play drums straight from vinyl back in the day to greats like yourself, Peart, Bonham, Smith, and so on. Thank you for all you've done in the business over the years. You rock.
THAT IS TOMMY TAYLOR PLAYING THE DRUMS! He played with Eric Johnson for years and played on this album among others. Legend! Played with Christopher Cross and many others. How did you all manage to land him for this gig! Amazing!
He saw our CC cover and insisted on joining us!
@@LexingtonLabBand Well that is a triumph in and of itself. I met Tommy and Eric back in the early nineties when they played at Tulane where I was ging to school. After they sound checked and ate, they just hung out with the students working the show. We talked, Eric noodled and it was amazing. Tommy is the man.
@@LexingtonLabBandWow! To me is the outmost gesture of respect for your musicianship. Congratulations!
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
@@LexingtonLabBand Absolutely! We'll do it again!
@@chapulineroenohio5406 LLB is top of the top. I told them when I was there than any one of them could be on any tour in the country! Total stars!
Love Eric Johnson! Spot on the Money. This guitar work is incredible!
HOLY Crap, you just rocked the hell out of that, That was inspiring for damn sure, well done man, well done!🤠
The one and only Tommy Taylor on drums. He has played this song a few thousand times!😅
This was awesome to see and hear live. I love how Tommy Taylor has been playing this song for decades and the fire is still there when he plays it!
It's all about having fun! I thought it was really cool to do the juxtaposition between Cliffs and Ride Like the Wind. For me it's always been every gig is the best gig. I'm very lucky to have been on those kinds of records and to have helped shape the way they originally sounded. What a great opportunity to share that with some really great musicians and their fans! They honored my contribution to those songs by having me play along and taking the time to work them up. I'm the lucky guy here!
Not an easy choice for a guitarist to play! Fantastic playing and vibe, y'all...
What amazes me more than the LLB members' talents are their choices of great songs to play. This is one more example of their stellar musicianship.
I haven't heard this song in ages. Eric played that song on that Telecaster like he owned it. It was amazing to watch!!! Kudos to LLB for another fantastic performance!!!
I've watched this video at least 100 times now (yes, I copied it). It sounds best when I 'play it for the neighbors' so you get full separation of the drummers cymbals, etc. It was just this morning, however, when I noticed something about this... IT'S RECORDED LIVE, in front of an audience. (I thought it was shot inside a warehouse or something). It's one thing to get studio quality in the studio, but to get this kind of sound reproduction in an auditorium... YOU GUYS ARE INCREDIBLE!!! Rest assured, on my next trip to Arkansas, I'll find a way to get over to Kentucky and watch y'all play.... Thanks for all the memories you've brought back to these 75 year old ears!!
How great to showcase the talent of LLB. (Saw Eric Johnson open for Rush back in the day, and this is bringing back great memories.)
Absolutely fantastic cover of a really great song. Well done!
I don’t think these guys should ever be buying themselves a drink again. That is phenomenal
Interesting to hear the song played with a Telecaster and not the Stratocaster and Gibson ES 335. The tele gives it some country sauce
Mike and Tommy did a fantastic job, but Roger absolutely smoked this one! 👏👏👏 Love seeing all the talent on display. Thank you LLB for sharing with all of us viewers!
Whoa! I thought the only one that could play Eric Johnson tunes was Eric Johnson. I was proved wrong! Great job!
It was even better live and in person!
Looking forward to Sep. 2024!
Wow!! I always guessed Eric woulda been the only one to pull this off! Listening without looking at the video, I could've sworn it was him. Thanks for sharing your talents!!
Wow, another great video of LLB featuring Roger Coleman on the electric guitar. That boy can bend those strings.
Great job!
I've seen Tommy with EJ several times, and he's awesome!
Thank you so much!
Musicianship was impeccable, y’all killed it! Also big shoutout to the sound engineer for the incredible setup on the drum kit! You are a wizard!!
Good Grief, Man, that was incredible!! It just doesn't get any better than that!
Roger is EXCELLENT.....don't know how many times I've watched "That Smell"......has to be over 100.....my cat even knows it................
WOW !! Tough song to cover because EJ’s style is so unique. Hats off to Roger Coleman. I have not heard anyone cover this like the original before LLB tackled it !
Beauty! I've been longing for more LLB - and we get a piece of the Live Show! HOPE there's more to come!
I'm sorry, Eric who? Roger, Mike, and Tommy absolutely nailed this one. 100% INDISTINGUISHABLE from the original!! Outstanding!
Being able to play like EJ is no small feat. Excellent job!
I was there, and saw it live!!! Great performances that night. And this was definitely one of them.
Congrats on a great cover of a VERY difficult guitar piece!
That's the best Eric Johnson cover I've ever heard. Great job!
tele's aren't all that easy to play, props to the soloist, he nailed all EJ's nuances.
no where to hide with that one, you gotta be on your game., because licks can be copied but someone else's style , approach and manner is almost impossible to recreate
LLB certainly is worthy of subscribing to and purchasing their offerings.
guys I want to start a new tv show where we have a segment called pickin and grinnin
cause I was damm sure girinin and oh hell yeah you were damm sure pickin
awesome DUDE

Just masterfully done. The Tele added a dimension I wasn't aware of. The tone, reverb and the spot on playing from the rhythm section. I'm blown away. Thank you.
Eric himself would be very proud of this flawless cover, for sure! Congrats!
He was!
You guys are brilliant! I've just been watching your covers of Boston, amazing!! The practice and dedication to reproducing what is a damn near perfect rendition of these songs is nothing short of, sh#t!! I've run out of superlatives! keep it up everyone! Cliffs Of Dover, it was like Eric was there!
Nothing LLB attempts and pulls off surprises me anymore. Fantastic job as usual!
Wow... just WOW! Fantastic performance as calling this a "cover" does not do your work justice - thank you!
What a Beautiful Voice that Guitar has!!! It’s all in Rogers hands 🙌 😊
Wow! I have never heard anyone besides EJ perform this. You continue to amaze.
Nice touch doing it live. No one can say it’s been edited or processed. Well done!
That’s my Cuz! Great job Rog!❤️
Saw this live. Mesmerized.
Wow, that was huge! . Amazing guitar playing from you.
God bless and God bless you guys and keeping in the faith. Don’t stop uploading!!
Holy shit, brilliant job guys. Takes cajones to try to cover this and yall NAILED IT!!
EDIT: damn Tommy Taylor you are the man. Great drumming :)
Thank you so much!
Ok
What the heck is in the water there?
Just too good… damn..
Man, this look forward to each video. Thanks again . Just great.
A+++++++!!!! And the great Tommy Taylor too!!!
The guitar as lead vocals. Love LLB.
Dude. Dude. That spun my head on that one! I thought ramblin man was good…..that was truly great. Well done!
You can stop taking lessons now. I think you've got this!
HOLY POOP! That was pretty awesome. Definitely got my like.
Ok... For the 1st time, I was nervous when the video popped up. Eric Johnson is one of my guitar heroes. Yet, here I am again hitting "👍" for another fabulous performance! 😁🎸🥁
This is beyond great…Holy Shit!!!!! what a phenom performance!!! BRAVO!!!!!!!!
Wow oh wow ya'll smacked that song hardcore fantastic work on this. Super job be proud love it
Damn, dude! 👍👍
That was so much fun to see live. Just love Labor Day weekend in central Kentucky. One of my favorites from that night!
HOLY FUCK!!! What the hell?? Out of everyone that I've heard try to play this piece, this guy is the only one to ever pull it off. Major props man. EDIT; major shoutout to the drummer as well. Edit2; just found out that the drummer played with EJ for years....no wonder he rocked that piece so well.
Tommy was on the original cut of that song.
It's kind of like riding a bicycle. Thank you so much! It was a gas!
the man, the myth, the legend himself@@TommyTaylorOfficial
dare I say it could be cleaner
Great job guys. Just ordered Eric's album, Ah Via Musicom. Thanks for doing a great tune by Eric. You guys rock ! Peace and love......
You will love that album. When it came out, I listened to it in the car as I drove to work every day for six months.
Had the pleasure of seeing this live
had to pick my jaw up off the floor!
Ahhhh…. EJ another fav musician of mine! You guys are beyond impressive…
Holy smokes, that was freaking incredible! As a guitar player of 50 years hat's off to Roger!
That's the best five minutes of my day. Roger did an amazing job covering an awesome song. Well done to LLB. Another great job by everyone involved.
ROCK N ROLL!!!!
WOW, Just WOW!!!! Again!!!!
I really think this is the greatest band ever!!!
So unbelievable that I had to go back and listen 2 more times because I did't believe it the first 2 times. Miss coming to see this. Maybe next year.....
Blessings, Chris
Phenomenal 🎸
So nice to have heard yall to an Eric Johnson number, a truly under rated guitarist.
Monster! Not much else one can say.
You guy’s cover so many hard songs and absolutely nail them! I smiled the entire song again. Keep it coming. Thank you.
Absolutely incredible!!! Awesome job and so spot on. That Telecaster was screaming. Would love to know the setup on that sound.
Eric Johnson is probably saying i wish I cold play like that ☺ absolute class♥
Can't believe you got Tommy Taylor to sit in on the drums. Awesome!
I kind of invited myself lol. They were so great to work this up. Roger killed it!
I REALLY want to see you guys in concert one day. AWESOME!!!!!!
Heyyy Mike and everyone at LLB!! What a great jam!!! You all sound great. Great guitar work by Roger and love the drum work!!! 🎶😀
It’s impossible to play note for note on this tune as Erik himself has said numerous times,
He doesn’t even know what he played on the original track that he created. But it’s quite close. Once again solid work. May I also give major props to the drummer.
Solid timing and great pace to guide this song. Greta work as always.
You may not be aware that Tommy (on drums) played this track with Eric on the record and on the road with him for 3 decades. We were honored to have him join!
Lovin it from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦
No freaking way!
Tommy Taylor!! Yes!!!
Super clean! Crushed it pal!
Eric Johnson is a Legend on the guitar, and this guitarist just paid him a great tribute. Outstanding performance!
Amazing. I've never heard anyone try to do a cover of this one, not to mention a LIVE cover! My guitar wants to join this band. My brand new Heritage H-150 arrived 2 days ago. I assume that means I need to send it to Kentucky?
What else can you say other than Awesome 👏
Incredible! Killer job!
Powerful, beautiful and exciting all at once. Great. Beyond great.
I was at the concert when they played this. I was blown away. Their just flat out awesome!!!
Yes, my favorite Guitar Hero song!
On a Tele!! Yes!!! A lot of Strats just went up for sale, lol
