For those who are interested, cynical or wary of 'woo'-type treatments. I'm a retired medical physicist.
PEMF (of which Magnawave is a brand name of a machine providing this) is a legitimate treatment which, in well-conducted tests and trials internationally, shows definite analgesic effects for musculo-skeletal pain in some (not all!) subjects, in both the human animal and domestic animals.
These types of therapy are much more widely used in veterinary medicine than in human medicine for a whole range of reasons, but IMO, deserve to have more exposure in human medicine as although they are _not_ a panacea, when they are effective they are a much better solution, especially for certain types of chronic pain, than are opioids and NSAIDs.

      Not cynical at all.

    • @tracyjohnson5023

The problem with magna wave and PEMF in general is that there aren't enough controlled studies that have been done.
The few I've seen have used a very small number of horses in the studies.
With as much money as magna wave is making, they need to get good, scientifically sound studies done.
A great start would be to take the performance befores of horses like this and then ride after PEMF session and video. Every time.
It would definitely be interesting to see if it helps riding performance over time, if it's just a short term help that has to be done forever or if it's just something that makes the horse more comfortable for pasture life in general.
Have to use good, reputable trainers though.

@@tracyjohnson5023 There are PEMF studies that have been done on other animals, though - of all sorts and by very reputable institutions - and changes are seen at a cellular level, so are widely applicable across species. Large animal studies (meaning large as in the size of the animal) of sufficient magnitude (meaning large enough numbers of animals) are incredibly difficult and expensive to organise, and virtually impossible to perform to the standards required in the sort of numbers which we see in small animal studies and even human studies,

PEMF saved one of my horses acutely from a colic and its regular use enhances their performance too. So glad to see awareness of this therapy is growing! I’m sure Lola will feel much better.

Clear and very nicely detailed explanation of Lola's problem. I really like this vet and the way she connected all the dots showing us how it all works together, telling us what is most likely happening beneath that golden coat and Lola reacting immediately as further proof of the vet's diagnosis. This was one of those great teachable moments we all benefit from. 🌟

Thanks for making this video! Everything described for Lola is exactly what my gelding and I are dealing with, and the extra info about the placement of the nerves really makes everything click together. My guy and I are doing everything that the vet/specialist recommended here, which is reassuring to me---not just a coincidence that he's doing so much better. These days he isn't nearly so ouchie as Lola, but I definitely got some eye daggers from him when I first started trying to figure out what was up. Wish I'd had this video a couple of years ago; it wouldn't have taken me so long to put together all the different pieces!

Please tell me WHY people can’t get this kind of a doctor. If I told you my story (not disimilar to Lola’s) and the gaslighting from terrible doctors, it would make you SICK.
Good on you for realizing that something weird was up! You knew it from the get-go and realized that it was a bit “something more” than just normal horse riding soreness. If I ever were to get a horse, I would want you to train it!

Fascinating. I was considering chiropractic adjustment on my short-strided mare but now i have to wonder if she has more of a problem like Lola. Either way, I believe I'm on the right path with daily gentle work. I will be trying to make her use her hind even more. She also is very grumpy about cinching (always has been, even before the short striding) even though I'm very slow and careful and I now wonder whether that's a symptom of nerve pain in the shoulder area (brachial plexus)? I sure appreciate your videos and have tried to apply things I learn. Thank you.

    • @timandersonhorsetraining
      @timandersonhorsetraining  6 месяцев назад

The white ring puts out a pulsing electromagnetic field that stimulates the muscles. In person you can hear the pulse from the machine and see the muscle twitch with the pulse. Similar to a tens unit but uses the electromagnetic field instead of current. It's like massaging charlie horse muscles that are too deep to get to physically.

I just hate to see people waste money on what looks like a pseudoscience. I'm not an expert and don't really know what I'm talking about this is just my opinion based on very little.
