Follow along with our family as we share our life events while living on our 168 acre homestead, farm and stables!
We are all about raising and training our horses, the Missouri Foxtrotter. Our goal is to bring awareness to this breed and showcase just how wonderful they are! We also raise and train our working border collie dogs. And don’t forget the homesteads sheep, goats and mini cattle!!! We also go to occasional auctions and recently have gotten into regenerative farming/agriculture. We are all about learning how to improve our fields/soil.
Phew! That’s a lot! But we love it! Make sure to subscribe to our channel to follow along!

Don't force them to take their medicine... isn't that precious!?
Spoken like someone who's never had pets, livestock, or children.
Right lol
Well, MY horse just comes a running when he sees that dewormer! Might be in the other direction, but he just comes a runnin'... LOL!
Lol if I can get my dog to take his meds without a fuss, great. If not, we both kinda suffer a bit because I don't like having to force him but it's got to be done.
Girl, you're allowed to have an attitude in your pregnancy - thats a perogative, just for all of us girls 😁🐎🙏💕
Amen
😂😂😂
Must be some city slickers out there. 😂 don't them take there medication
What lovely and sweet mares, and it is obvious that you care for them all very well! The puppy is adorable 🥰.
Little mini is so cute! Can’t wait for the baby foals to arrive! I’m really enjoying your channel!😘❤🙏🏻✨
I love your comments on how to know when a mare is getting close to foaling! Can't wait to see the babies!!
They all look great! Can't wait to see the fouls! Love the puppy, so pretty and such a sweetie. You All have a good night and God Bless. Thank You for teaching us, sharing information and love the videos!
They're so well behaved and gentle..a testament to JR's training I'm sure.. I feel bad that you have to explain about Beckah riding Ozark or being in with the sheep..but that's know all trolls for you..🇬🇧💞🙏✝️🐾🐾🐕🐈👍👏👏🇺🇸
Animals are much like children. They don't want to take the meds, yet they need them. lol
Looking good! That wee pup is just precious too. God Bless.
Of course, you have to make sure they get their medicine! If your child didn't want to go to the dentist you would have to make them, or their teeth would rot out. Some people think that we all get to do whatever we want and should never be told NO and that is exactly what's wrong with the world today. Those mares getting good exercise up until the day they foal is exactly what they need. Human woman should exercise until the day they deliver as well. Don't worry about the trolls. I am sticking with my initial claim that Chablis will foal first!
Hope she gives you a one in a million $ money making horse . You guys deserve it as much love and care to so many horses .
It’s amazing how much y’all have to know to take care of horses..
BEAUTIFUL moms to be ♥️♥️🐎🐎♥️♥️🕊️✨🕊️✨🕊️✨
Good day ! They are all beautiful!
I would assume working a horse until she is close would be a good thing. Staying fit would only benefit wouldn't it? When you talk about age to start (2 vs 5) could you also expand when continue work/training a mom after birth?
I feel like I am learning so much, thank you! And what a sweet puppy!!
Heck I have to force myself to take my medicine. XD I can’t do it responsibly because I hate it. I force it down with some sweet juice. I understand you gotta force it down.
Did it for a diabetic dog as well. She would spit out her medicine if we didn’t put it in her mouth and close it.
Did I see a foal outline on one side of the 3 mares? 🎉
I’m sure you did!
I'm looking forward for you to have three excited foals bouncing around.
Sure seems the dates are a bit off but a first timer can delay despite appearing early.
That mane might hold a braid without ties..
You certainly have your hands full this spring.
Thank you for sharing
I just love the idea of these new babies coming lol! I like how you clarify about riding too, I mean she's a small girl and only took her that far. It's not like she took off full canter for half a mile. I know some people ride them preggers and some don't.
Oh baby or babies are coming! So exciting! ❤
Shaving cream works great getting the tangles out of the manes im sure you knew that but in case noone else did 😊
No! Never heard of that! We will have to try👍
Babies soon! How exciting!
Great to see you all caring for your horses.
LOOOVE your videos! Thank you so much!
Don't force the medication on the horse?? You mean, like you have to with dogs, cats, and kids? And me? 😁
Can’t wait to see if you get a paint!♥️🐴😁Your mares are beautiful girls.
& in the meantime, no sleep waiting cuz you're sure it will be any day. Lol!
Is Sioux pronounced like Sue? Silent x
Beautiful horses!
🐴🐎 puppy is so adorable. 🐕
Our kids read the name wrong so we call her “Sioux” not pronounced “Sue”😛
@homesteadhorsemanship Thanks for explaining, it was driving me nuts 😂😂😂
Here's hoping all goes well for the birthings.
So exciting waiting for the foals. Minnie is adorable.
Thumbs up for treatment (correctly given as done here). Have a great week....well what's left of it.
Okay my brain says that a horse would be somewhat the same as a human and the more exercise she got the easier the birth would be and my wrong in that assumption
Can't wait to see the babies
hi from germany , hohenlohe, happy horses 🥰 that come to the meadow are dirty , absolute normal !! ( translator ) 😀😉😉
Pretty girls ❤! Chablis looks like she wants that thing out 😂
Pretty horses...very exciting time! Of course she has an attitude...she is making a baby. Mini is so cute! Great family!
YEAH WHEN I WAS STILL LIVING AT HOME WORKING IN THE FIELDS WITH HORSE DRAWN MACHINERY AND WE USED THE MARES TILL THE DAY THEY WERE DUE GIVING BIRTH TO THEIR COLTS
Man, you guys are busy!
Your animals and family are so caring ❤
JR-I love the way you address people comments. Is Mini the runt?
I foresee a busy year on the farm.
👍👍👍🎉 Chablis had hers
Hey how come they don't get any apple treats after they get meds ? Lmao🤩
Haha. We had some grain but the sheep ate it😳🙄 one of the mares did get a treat but I just didn’t show that part😂
My mare is broke broke...she absolutely hates the dewormer. You have to force!!
Looking forward to seeing 3 babies join the family.
They are so cute
Six weeks off for mare maternity leave 🐎🍼❤
Beautiful video of filly and Chablis. I was wondering if straw is better than shavings for the foals respiratory system, the dust and stuff in the nostrils?? They are previous!!!!!
The horses need No More Tangles shampoo😂
There’s nothing that’s not cute on your farm.
Your horses have it made as they should!!!!😊
🙋🏼♀️Hi Rebecca!! 🙌
Hi JR. You are going to exhaust yourself mentally if you keep responding to some of these people. I recommend ignore, block, and delete "Shelley", and a few others. I know you and your lovely family are good Christians, but people like her will go from bad to worse if you encourage their trolling. Trust me, I speak from experience. It's clear from the condition of your animals, that they are well taken care of, and that you know what you are doing. I really enjoy your videos, and not just the ones about Oliver. I was actually watching before you bought him. ;-)
Hi Dianna. Yes, I agree about he trolls, I honestly think Jr is having fun with them though😂
~ Emeri
Completely agree. Teach those who want to learn like we do cause those clowns are here trying to teach when they don't even know how to learn first. You sure can't teach what you don't know and saying not to force ANYONE OR ANYTHING to take its meds is like, right up top with THE DUMBEST bs anyone could ever even say no less actually believe. That's just pure insanity. I'm having to force my own self to even take my antibiotics correctly. He's exactly right. It's about what they NEED not what they WANT, as it is with everything and everyone in life. "You don't always get what you want, but you do always get what you need."
You guys are great, your horses are beautiful, well Mimi the dog is just a sweetie 💕💕, thank you guys xxxx
The puppy is precious & I can’t wait to see the foals!! 🐶❤️🐴
Can ya'll please not make any more horses for a couple of yrs? Horse owners need to work together on cutting back to help eliminate the slaughter pipeline.
The Missouri foxtrotter is a rare breed who’s numbers are down. They are highly sought after and have zero chance of going to slaughter. Also horse prices are so high that the slaughter pipeline is nearly a myth. Only desperately I’ll, injured or old horses are being bought for slaughter.
👍🥰👍🥰👍🥰
It’ll be exciting to see the new foals! God bless mamas! ❤😊
What breed are you... , well, breeding? I'm a disabled senior and miss my horses. I'm living through you guys.
These are Missouri Foxtrotters.
@@homesteadhorsemanship I figured they were gaited from the video. Gorgeous. I rescued a Paso Fino. What a ride!
@@paulabefumo4577I loved my paso so much. I hated having to let her go. On top the fact I gave her away and specifically said I wanted her back if he didn't keep her and of course he paid me no mind and just took my horse, I was heart broke twice letting her go at all. I so wish I never had... my Magdilina De FranJo... 💔
@DanielleBalasty oh I feel for you. I paid to rescue mine from an abusive owner. He was old but had heart, he dragged my husband up a mountain until we realized how old he was.
We got his weight back on, and because of that, he became totally devoted to me. It was our vet who recognized he was a paso Fino, and when he felt better, he broke out that gait one day on the trail. He was my baby named Bosco.
All of my horses were also sold the same way and never heard from him again. Saddest day of my life.
@@paulabefumo4577 I have a paso fino ❤
you force babies and toddlers and old people...with medicine that taste nasty. What do you think horses are going too do ...
Growing up with horses back in the day for worming a vet would come out to the barn where we boarded our horses. The vet would put a hose like contraption in their noses and it would always bleed. Ugh.
I guess all of them have a purpose!!
Dont force them to take their medicine lmao wow....thats....crazy. 😅
You’ve got some really gorgeous mares and I can’t wait to see their foals!! I wanted to make sure you realized that the name Sioux is actually pronounced as Sue. I wasn’t sure if you were aware. Thanks so much for posting these videos and allowing us into your lives!! ❤️💕❤️💕❤️
Haha, yes we know. Our kid read it as Sioux instead of Sue and it just stuck lol
Also thank you! And thank you for watching!💕
Minnie sure is a cute pup! It will be fun to see the foals.
I was always told to use baby oil in a horses main and tail to get the mats out.
Maybe you could braid the mane to keep it from tangling so bad?
Where’s OLIVER!
Hehe. I guess we better just add him in every video lol
Please don’t put those mares in the round pen with cement floor. A girl needs to be able dig her heel in to push pluse if she is standing that service is to hard for a baby to drop down on. I do love your videos and horses really the whole farm. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’ll put extra shavings down. And it’s not concrete but it is hard
In watching some of the top horse trainers in the world they all say the same about foals. You should NOT touch them at all till they have at least weaned off mom this can ruin your foals for life. I suggest watching these videos i can link if needed 😊
Since watching this channel I started watching a lot of horse videos. There are several very promoment "horse people including breeders & showers) who disagree with that & have Many Years of EXPERIENCE IN CARING FOR HORSES 20. 30 PLUS
Beautiful mares. I look forward to watching more videos. God bless. 🙏💖
You sure did warm yourself up?
😮😅
From Cleveland Texas.
Getting exciting, can't wait to see the new babies. Thanks for sharing. ❤❤❤❤
Happy Blessed Easter! Looking Forward To Seeing The Mare's Give Birth And To Fuzzy Eyebrows Oliver To Start Training Yes! ❤
Love Y'all Janet....
Never scratch or rub a dog under the muzzle! That’s a gesture of submission. Always scratch or pet then on top os the muzzle.
Absolutely give them medicine!
I love how you pronounce Souix, in defiance of the French spelling. hahaha
Such lovely mares. I love the farm(s) you live on. I wish I lived farther away from St. Louis than I do. I'm just north of you in the bedroom communities of St. Louis, in franchise-ville. I miss being out in the country.
Hi, you stalker here. Lol
I didn't even know about this breed and I wonder if we have them in the Netherlands, I don't think so. 😮 I like them very much, beautiful breed. ❤❤
Thank you for allowing us to take this adventure of the mares in the new babies coming.
Isn’t Sioux pronounced “Soo”? As in the Indian tribe: Sioux. Not “Soycks” as you are saying it…? 🤷♀️
Yes my kid read it off her papers wrong when we bought her and it was funny and stuck.
Ahhhh! Gotchya! 👍🏻😂
My first time on your RUclips channel and I love it so much ❤
Sioux looks full of foal. She is such a sweet beauty!❤
👍🐎👍🐎👍
Please ignore negative comments!
Can't go by what "old farmers" did. Thank God for advancement , education, and good old fashioned love and common sense!!!
Love your show ♥️
Pretty cool
Have you heard of positive reinforcement training? I saw you were using treats with Oliver in on of the newer videos! That’s basically the idea of +R, I’m not sure if that person was trying to be rude or maybe they came off wrong. No need to change anything up just chatting❣️ I love your horsemanship and you’re whole family/team seems wonderful.
Currently binging the last two weeks of videos🥰❤
❤👍🏻😀😊
Love that puppy!!! did not catch her name though.
Her name is Minnie 😊
Sorry foals!
You are WRONG about lice not being transferred from one species to another. I have witnessed horse barns under Quarantine over chicken lice. Yes animals can even get worms that are not host specific and have them live for awhile before being shed. Why don't you do your research before making those ASSUMPTIONS.
@@catea2551 Six decades of horse and livestock knowledge and several Vet books including the Merck and all the research that goes with that. Plus helping for over a decade on a forum. Yes I'm qualified to speak.
I didn’t say chickens. I was referring to the sheep and cattle. And the only reason I said that is because I did research it. We do not own chickens so I didn’t include them.
@@homesteadhorsemanship If you brought an animal in with chicken lice then it could have spread to other animals with close contact.
Girl combing out tangled mane. You are doing that wrong. You hold above the knots and start at the bottom with a detangler and comb down in small sections. By holding above the knot you would prevent her neck from being yanked on. Much more kinder to the animal.
She’s not being unkind to the horse. Horses necks are not that sensitive. Have you seen the way horses treat each other? These horses have a great life. It’s not necessary to be so critical.
@@erikamilan5298 I disagree. What I have witnessed and heard in the video for the paint is wrong. Not good. Misuse of medications. If you care for a complete understanding of what I'm talking about I have left the comment in that thread explaing in detail. It concerns giving injectable medication by mouth that was designed to work for a slow worm kill via the bloodstream. When given in the way they went about it the worms all detach at once leaving thousands of pin holes in the GI tract. That leads to secondary infection and then toxins attacking organs, also the burning of the esophagus. This practice was studied at OSU. Greatly frowned upon. Further info in the other thread. In case you did miss in this video. Once again he worms a horse and also uses another product as a pour on. Oh his Vet said he could use the pour on. Ok. Did they tell them they also wormed by mouth with another product and maybe also did their sketchy bullshit. How much do you add up the liver of these animals have to process at the same time.? This guy likes to throw the kitchen sink at an animal and people who do not raise livestock and horses think it is fine because they are uneducated to the sleezy way these horse traders operate. I feel sorry for the horses in his care, not that he means bad, he might not. However facts are facts. I have spoken to the Lab that manufactures the product misused and received a full understanding that not right now but a bit further on that what was done does harm animals by basically frying the liver and contributing to an earlier demise. In livestock with a heavy wormload it is pretty fast actually.
Shelly. You only saw the end of her getting the tangle out. With tangles like that you do whatever you can do get them out lol. Sioux stood perfectly still. I don’t think it bothered her at all, In fact. I think she loved the attention.
@@homesteadhorsemanship The higher up the mane the more nerve endings and horses do feel the pulling. Next time watch the horse twitch when pulled on. Then observe some horses get off center and shift their weight to the right side from the left. Certain horses in that situation learn from any ground contact. What did it learn from that? Any action has a reaction and the horse being pulled on learned by shifting in the opposite direction to blow turns and vere off course and frustration sets in for the rider. The more frustrating it gets because nobody can figure out where it started at. There. Right there and children can also get their feet stepped on when a horse shifts it weight from someone pulling at gobs of mane like that from the midpoint to the poll. Try it my way and it will all comb out nicely.
Why can’t the mares eat grass? Can’t wait to see the babies 🐴❤
They could get Fescue toxicity.
