Odysseus is constantly getting punished for his own cleverness, I like that he's now "cursed" to have the song stuck in his head because he thought he could sneak a listen and live. 😂
The especially funny thing is, if you check Scylla's entry in the Guidebook (written from Hecate's perspective) you find out she admits to liking the siren's music as well.
@@PablitaOrtega77tbf, he only ever named the Sirens, not Scylla. And unless I misremembered, there's a dialogue that implies Scylla's band only formed in Oceanus. Not during Odysseus' journey.
The siren song being so beautiful it bewitches even in the afterlife is a terrifyingly good concept. Even in death they call to you- you’ll never truly get away.
Odysseus had to plug the ears of his men with wax to prevent them from hearing the siren song, but he allowed himself to hear the song at the cost of being bound tightly to the mast, so that he would not be tempted to throw himself overboard and drown
Basically, he had to make a choice between sailing by Scylla, or by Charybdis. Sailing by Scylla ensured that 6 of his sailors would be dragged off the deck to their deaths. Sailing by Charybdis risked the possibility that the entire ship would be lost to the whirlpool. He made the decision to sacrifice 6 men for the assured passage of the rest of the crew.
Scylla used to be a beautiful maiden, but she got turned into a six headed monster and was stationed at a part of the sea called Straight of the Damned Scylla was partnered with a living whirpool called Charybdis, and all sailors that dared to cross their path would have to make a difficult choice, either allow Scylla to eat them or risk Charybdis drowning them Odysseus was adviced by Circe to risk Scylla eating his crew, he was told to row past Scylla as fast as possible and to not stop for a moment to fight her, because that would be folly so Odysseus got past the Straight of the Damned at the cost of losing 6 men
To be fair Odysseus had a very unreliable crew. On two separate occasions they damned the voyage home. The first occasion forced to elongate their trip for years due to unraveling the bag of winds given to them pushing them away from home. And the second occasion lead to the deaths of everyone except for Odysseus.

To be fair to Melinoe, separating the art from the artist does take a fair amount of open mindedness.

I think it's from Melinoe's perspective, actually, considering the descriptions regarding Hecate and herself.
I was under the impression it was Homer’s perspective.
@@volcano-ik9kf Too mean towards Melinoe to be Homer's.
It can't be Hecate's. She has her own entry there and she is referred in third person.
I believe the book is actually written by Nemesis!
Once a siren fan always a siren fan.
All tasty morsels shrimp for Scylla.
Irony since he was one of if not the only human to actually listen to the sirens song and not die.
Kind of a frightening concept really. That their song can bewitch a man even *after* his death and into the afterlife.
Sorry can't hear you I'm listening to Coral Crown
I like how they made Odysseus a Siren fan. He had his crew tied him to the mast, so he could listen to the song without the fear of walking overboard.
Honestly...mood.
but unless i am mistaken, Scylla has nothing to do with the sirens, is she not an entirely different beast ?
@@PablitaOrtega77 Yes but Odysseus also met Scylla during his voyage. They might have just soft of combined these events.

It helps that Odysseus is one of the few men of not the only man who listened to their whole song without dying and was thus able to dwell on it.
imagine melinoe reaction if she could see that coral crown is currently darren korb most popular song on spotify

The fact that even mentioning the music tugs on hooks in his ghostly mind is crazy. Actually playing up the strength of their powers quite a lot.
