ARNEL PINEDA should be awarded and recognized by the Music Industry atleast "Vocalist of the Year" for being legendary vacalist of Journey for almost 14 years with the band existed since 70's, or 80's.
He does a great job, but he is NOT as good as Perry. He does have a similar signature, which most people think of as sounds the same as. I am a fan, but technically, no one touches Perry.
It’s 2022 and everytime I get to see this video of Arnel singing Faithfully in their concert live in Manila 2009, I still feel that all hairs on my body are rising! My goodness, Arnel, you are such a gifted soul! Such a powerful, huge voice, soaring over those instruments! Journey is still very lucky to have you. You are such a rare gem!

For those “no emotion” comments: Arnel was not just singing this song, he was living it. He was starting a family when he joined Journey and been away from them while touring and singing this song. Everytime I see him sing this song, his young family, pursuing a huge dream and sacrifice are all in mind. In this concert in Manila 2009, his wife was in the audience carrying their very young son in her arms. The video of Don’t Stop Believin’ in the documentary Everyman’s Journey (not the DSB video in YT) captured in his wife’s face how surreal those moments were. Then their daughter came along on his 4th year with Journey. Now, watch him again. If you don’t see and feel the emotion, oh well, keep it to yourself. 🙂

I was lucky enough to hear him sing live in the late 80's every week when he was with Ammo Band. At the time they covered many bands of that time and he was amazing. I was not surprised he was finally discovered for the rest of the world to enjoy... to bad it took over 20 years!
Good for you! I haven't seen him/nor I've been able to watch him in the internet that time, (besides we really didn't have a computer then, you know how tough life is in the Phils.) It's just pretty sad to think that in the Phils, no matter how talented you are and with that "golden voice" - it's not really easy to be IN the circle, right away, maybe one in a million years before you could be "noticed" (same thing what happened to Charice Pempengco during the early years of her career, joining different singing contests, ). Usually the TV networks, judges would look for the "good looking mestizo/mestiza/ white skin"
Yes Steve was great! But this guy is great as well. And his story to stardom is even greater! Found on RUclips. And when he was discovered he didn't even know how good he was. And his English wasn't the best. Give Arnel credit! He has put in the hard work. He is good enough that it keeps Journey alive and to be honest just as entertaining. Don't knock him because he isn't Steve. Acknowledge him for the talent that he has. And where he came from and what it took to get where he is at now!

For everyone hating Arnel, let me tell you this. Watch Arnel's documentary. He's 41 when he became the lead singer ( Steve perry at 42 is singing in a much lower key. Watch his live in 1991) and afterwards they are having a concert ALMOST EVERYDAY. He's been really worn out. Imagine, for a decade they've been performing. Arnel now is in his 50 ( 53 to be precise) and he's still rockin. Just think what can he do more if he was in his prime as a Journey. Watch his documentary.
I watched the whole Journey Live in Houston online and I watched Journey Live in Manila if you close your eyes and let the music go in to your heart and soul you realize that their music speaks to your soul regardless who the singer is. I will always love Steve Perry and I also love Arnel Pineda

You are right BC. They really did. I remember the very first time they played on [US] national tv with Arnel, some daytime talk show I have already forgotten, and they played this song. When they finished they audience was star struck and the host (I remember it was a female) was ready to give him a BJ. Even two of the original members walked over to him and essentially bowed to him. I looked at my wife and told her the reason they were bowing to him is that this guy (Arnel) has just resurrected their careers ($$$) for another 10 - 15 years. I would have bowed too. Jackpot indeed!

Mall of Asia is an amazing place. The first time I was there I was surprised (to say the least) to see a hockey game taking place between the Philippines team and the Canada team. Who won? The Philippines team. I then learned that both teams were comprised of mostly expats from US, Canada and Europe, plus a handful of Filipinos. Imagine that... hockey in the Philippines.

My God... The multiple "eargasms' this performance gives me is beyond comprehension. I've already listened to this live masterpiece an unhealthy amount of times. These guys are true professionals in their fields and they came to SLAY big time! Arnel's talent is unbelievable and the emotion and passion he brings to each song is undeniably amazing. Close your eyes and you will be mesmerized. This is my favorite Journey line up ever. Neal is the man! He is so underrated. Jon on keyboards is pure magic and those intros he does is crazy. Ross is always super cool. And damn Deen... He came to SLAY! Can all of you stop complaining about who Journey sucks without Steve? Sure he was great, but Arnel is not trying to be any better than him and is about the closest you can get to stoves vocals. Just enjoy that Journey has continued to perform and carry on despite Steve leaving.

I was lucky enough to hear him sing live in the late 80's every week when he was with Ammo Band. At the time they covered many bands of that time and he was amazing. I was not surprised he was finally discovered for the rest of the world to enjoy... to bad it took over 20 years!

It's just pretty sad to think that in the Phils, no matter how talented you are and with that "golden voice" - it's not really easy to be IN the circle, right away, maybe one in a million years before you could be "noticed" (same thing what happened to Charice Pempengco during the early years of her career, joining different singing contests, ). Usually the TV networks, judges would look for the "good looking mestizo/mestiza/ white skin"

Yes Steve was great! But this guy is great as well. And his story to stardom is even greater! Found on RUclips. And when he was discovered he didn't even know how good he was. And his English wasn't the best. Give Arnel credit! He has put in the hard work. He is good enough that it keeps Journey alive and to be honest just as entertaining. Don't knock him because he isn't Steve. Acknowledge him for the talent that he has. And where he came from and what it took to get where he is at now!

For everyone hating Arnel, let me tell you this.
Watch Arnel's documentary. He's 41 when he became the lead singer ( Steve perry at 42 is singing in a much lower key. Watch his live in 1991) and afterwards they are having a concert ALMOST EVERYDAY. He's been really worn out. Imagine, for a decade they've been performing. Arnel now is in his 50 ( 53 to be precise) and he's still rockin. Just think what can he do more if he was in his prime as a Journey. Watch his documentary.

I watched the whole Journey Live in Houston online and I watched Journey Live in Manila if you close your eyes and let the music go in to your heart and soul you realize that their music speaks to your soul regardless who the singer is. I will always love Steve Perry and I also love Arnel Pineda

You are right BC. They really did. I remember the very first time they played on [US] national tv with Arnel, some daytime talk show I have already forgotten, and they played this song. When they finished they audience was star struck and the host (I remember it was a female) was ready to give him a BJ. Even two of the original members walked over to him and essentially bowed to him. I looked at my wife and told her the reason they were bowing to him is that this guy (Arnel) has just resurrected their careers ($$$) for another 10 - 15 years. I would have bowed too. Jackpot indeed!

Mall of Asia is an amazing place. The first time I was there I was surprised (to say the least) to see a hockey game taking place between the Philippines team and the Canada team. Who won? The Philippines team. I then learned that both teams were comprised of mostly expats from US, Canada and Europe, plus a handful of Filipinos. Imagine that... hockey in the Philippines.

My God... The multiple "eargasms' this performance gives me is beyond comprehension. I've already listened to this live masterpiece an unhealthy amount of times. These guys are true professionals in their fields and they came to SLAY big time! Arnel's talent is unbelievable and the emotion and passion he brings to each song is undeniably amazing. Close your eyes and you will be mesmerized. This is my favorite Journey line up ever. Neal is the man! He is so underrated. Jon on keyboards is pure magic and those intros he does is crazy. Ross is always super cool. And damn Deen... He came to SLAY! Love Steve Smith, but Deen brings power and sexiness to the band and the way he hits that drum kit blows me away, while doing a great job singing vocals too.
And please... Stop the hate and comparisons. Steve will always be Steve and will always be a part of Journey. And Arnel is Arnel and he brought new life and an exciting resurgence to this iconic band. Please let's all just appreciate the fact that these guys love what they do and want to keep playing until they can't no more. Like they all say... The show must go on and Arnel helped do just that. He's phenomenal and also brings international appeal. His fellow Filipinos completely love and support him. I'm also a proud Filipina and have been a huge Journey fan since the early 80's. I'm 55 and I'm so thankful that I still get to enjoy all the magic that is Journey. Steve and Arnel both respect one another and we should take their lead. Arnel loves Steve and the band and what a blessing that he is now continuing Steve's legacy. I'm sure Steve is extremely proud. And I love happy endings. Such a heartwarming story about Arnel. A true Cinderella story for the ages and love it when good things happen to good people. Journey saved Arnel, but in all honesty, it was Arnel who saved Journey as they are enjoying a worldwide resurgence and love seeing this diehard band enjoying what they love and that's playing amazing music!
