Every time I visited the Philippines I would go to clubs and listen to the bands. Some of the most talented singers and players in the world. I have visited 29 different countries and the Philippines has the best cover bands in the world. One night I was sitting in a club and heard White Wedding and would have sworn that it was Billy Idol's cd playing, but no it was the house band. The next song was a Journey song and I thought I was listening to Steve Perry. Simply amazing.
Arnel Pineda is AMAZING. He SO deserves this. After years of playing in the Philippines and Hong Kong, he's finally in a position to sing to the world.
I don't think Journey could've found anyone better than Arnel as their lead singer. I think he was made for the band. The first time I heard Arnel singing with Journey, my husband and I were in the Electronics department at Walmart. I had my back to the tv's. All of a sudden, I start hearing Journey, and thought I heard Steve Perry singing. I looked at my husband and said, "Woah! When did Steve get back with the band?" Then we both saw Arnel, and were amazed at how much he sounds like Steve. :)

Sometimes in life the impossible becomes a reality and this surreal phase of Journey's journey was clearly meant to be. Steve Perry is enshrined as the original and that is it's own reality and that will never change. Arnel defines every necessary element that completes the journey.
There is nothing like the original, Steve Perry is personified through the band, 4ever will be, regardless of why they split up. And this is coming from a Filipino. But there would be no more journey without Arnel. Like apples and oranges. They are both amazing! I would love to see them both do a track together.
Steve is what brought Journey to the top. If they were kinder and joined Steve ín with them on a more personal level. They may not have lost Steve and his great vocals. The kid certainly is a hell of a singer. Journey will never be taken seriously though, I don't think, as long as they have a singer who does nothing else but strive to sound like Perry. It's rough, but it is what it is. Bands can't escape an identity, or sound, that they earned with a mega star lead singer/frontman. The identity is mostly the singers. That's just the way it is.
