Dana being a woman on the gambling machine is interesting because they’ve always been depicted as male in every piece of media that I’ve seen before this video.
So basically echoing what I said on the og upload, I did really enjoy this one on NES, although I didn't actually beat it until it showed up on Nintendo Switch Online! definitely helped having save-states and rewind to deal with some of the crazier BS later on. One neat easter egg I discovered was the mighty bomb jack character shows up as a pickup! I honestly have no idea how I triggered his appearance, but he's in there. a fun puzzler although yeah you probably don't need to go to the trouble of trying to play the disk version.
had to look up my comment history to find what I posted: Of all the rereleases, this one feels the most substantial. While it was based on an arcade game it really does feel more like a home game and it's got a more "modern" feel than the other budget releases. Here we are, finally, in 1991, the penultimate season of the disk system... but really, it feels more like the final year since 1992 will only have... two releases. Also, it's almost the end of "The Year Of FDS" and we do not have many days/episodes left!
I liked the long black screen. It filled me with hope that there would be a lengthy look at some weird aspect of the game's history. Four minutes of Random Stranger playing the Tecmo pachislot when?
Finally "Zipang" gets its moment in the sun. Now I want to see the "Solomon's Key" arcade game, that also looks pretty good. I would love to see a battler game where "Load Runner" battles "Dana", as one creates blocks, while the other destroys floor blocks. Somehow, I think Dana would win, unless Hudson's Bomberman was on "Loadrunner{s}" side. 😉
Like Samus before Super Metroid for everyone who didn't "know"? 😂 It's weird how sexist we were about 8-bit sprites. I remember assuming the protagonist was a girl as a kid and people thought it was weird. Shrug.
@@EriChanTheRetroGamerNerd I'd blame the NA manual of Mertoid for wrongly reffering to Samus as "he" in all cases describing her profession and traits for that initial batch of confusion.
@@rafadylewski7190 In all fairness, it wasn't that long ago that it was widely accepted that male pronouns could be gender neutral in English. The manual for the original Wizardry addresses the game using he/him pronouns for all of your characters as such: "Wizardry is not a sexist game. English, however, is a sexist language."
@@rafadylewski7190 It did not do so wrongly. Back then, Samus was supposed to be shrouded in mystery. No one knew their identity. Having Samus revealed as a woman at the end was an intentional surprise.
Can't believe they re-released it on the FDS twice!
i hope your hand feels better! and thank you for your videos, they are a really important part of my day :)
I've got to try this game sometime. I missed it back in the day, and it looks like my sort of action puzzler.

I assume the name was pronounced "Day-nah" as in the Dana Corporation (a local business in my town).

Get better soon!!
We're already in 1991, huh? FDS's final years went by real quick... just a few games left. It really was all but dead past 1989.
Thanks for getting rid of the long black screen!

Whoa it's midnight CST at 12:35pm! (thanks for the reupload fix Rnd)
Don't throw shade on the IRL Solomon's grimoires. He's the Jesus or Buddha of Occultist demonolatry.

What a lode of brown blocks
Hope your hand healed up quickly!
At least the IP lived on sort of with a Monster Rancher re-skin on Game Boy Color.
Wait, is Dana a boy or a girl? That pachislot cameo is confusing me…
Japanese is ambiguous on gender so people just made assumptions back in the day. The pachislot machine clarifies things.
