Seriously, the idea of anti-libertarian anime feels like a cult video waiting to be found. (Also kinda reminds me of that bit in Yakuza 0 where Majima ends up raising taxes in Sotenbori.)
There’s an animated short where Bomberman teaches about earthquake safety and one where Mario teaches about electrical safety. Odd casting choices in PSAs have their own weird value
>4:19 - Makes you wonder if their downfall went fully in accordance to the AnCap picardia memes, or did they skipped the part about privately-owned nuclear weapons since it's quite a taboo subject over there.
Every New Year's I think to myself, "Be like Flanders; get your taxes done early" and every year I still put it off until, like, the day before they're due. I'm pretty sure that if I was given a Star Soldier derivative that kind of... _lightly annoyed me_ every once in awhile with multiple choice questions about doing my taxes, it would not help me to be more punctual or better at it, lol. I mean, props for them for trying though. It's not an inherently bad idea - the f2p game (ACTUALLY free to play; no microtransactions) "Island Saver" for Xbox and Playstation is actually a pretty fun "busywork-style FPS," like Slime Rancher or something, and it's from the National Westminster Bank! They did it, they made a fun educational game. So props should be in order to efforts like Aton Gaiden here for taking baby steps towards that idea
4:29 “Our hero has to teach the space Princess about the importance of taxes.” This is some Ms. Krabappel smoking in the back of the class shit right there. Sure it’s made for kids so it’s going to be a bit heavy handed and pound the points it has to make with a sledgehammer but, lol what a concept
I'm famous now! Also this will be my proudest moment unless you do the N64 library. Also Briareos is from the anime/manga Appleseed I am a HUGE Masamune Shirow fan.
I was thrown off by the fact Clu Clu Land appears before Planet Aton in the playlist despite releasing later. Of course, after looking at this episode again, I realized this is a gaiden episode of The Year of FDS (I'll let myself out).
Imagine being a kid and winning a tax break for your parents. Since a tax credit is financially equivalent to cash, that'd probably be child labor or something.
yeah I think the wife and I were both extremely confused by the existence of this one! I've seen some weird educational games in the retrogaming scene of varying quality, this one's gotta rank up as one of the weirdest. and then there's an anime?! (but then I suppose that part isn't as surprising I've heard about other similar videogame-to-anime adaptations done in Japan for like mario and that one for rockman.)
I can't begin to express how annoyed I am that I can't just go watch the Planet Aton anime right now. The Japanese IRS writing an anime where the protagonist explains to cute anime girl John Galt what taxes are for is just so funny to me. I am sure it's very boring in practice but I absolutely don't care.
The music and sound design in this game sounds awfully similar to Over Horizon and Fantasy Zone (Tengen). I'd wager it was made by Pixel (unrelated to cave story).
I'm now trying to imagine what a pro-tax JRPG would look like. Hunting down cheats and attacking them with tax laws? Maybe the big boss is a shady yakuza accounting company? LOL.
And a few years ago...
And a few years ago...
And a few years ago...
Long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long ago, in a distant, distant, distant, distant, distant, distant land...
This is polybius but without the going crazy
I mean this story sure makes me feel like I’m going crazy
I'm surprised there isn't someone obsessed with lost media hunting down those tax animes right now.
Seriously, the idea of anti-libertarian anime feels like a cult video waiting to be found.
(Also kinda reminds me of that bit in Yakuza 0 where Majima ends up raising taxes in Sotenbori.)
It will become a trend to talk about it, then people will search for it.

The sound engine sounds like Masaharu Iwata's. Perhaps Pixel was the developer?
It's definitely plausible. There's nothing out there on the development of this game to explain what happened, though.
the font for the score is the same as over horizon's, so pixel is probably a good candidate
I went to a Nihonshu (aka sake) seminar and got thoroughly drunk thanks to the National Tax Agency once. It also happened to land on my birthday.
I'd like the IRS a lot better if they paid for me to get sloshed!
Wow! I had no idea anything like this existed, thank you for finding the time to slot in this last little extra episode!
>4:19 - Makes you wonder if their downfall went fully in accordance to the AnCap picardia memes, or did they skipped the part about privately-owned nuclear weapons since it's quite a taboo subject over there.
This is why I love this channel, learning about random stuff like this.
Really wanna check out that point and click adventure game looking video now.
"All your taxes are belong to us." - Kokuzeichou
7:18 video games truly let you live out your wildest fantasies

Well, that was an insane yet utterly believable scenario.

Including this one was a good call.
A space shooter where you can't actually lose your ship? That's the relaxingly low-stakes world of edutainment for you.

This game is kryptonite for americans.
What if the contest prizes were tax breaks for the winners' parents?
Honestly, my guess was a certificate.
Imagine being a kid and winning a tax break for your parents. Since a tax credit is financially equivalent to cash, that'd probably be child labor or something.
Not the only tax/videogame crossover. There is also Marusa no onna.
Which was not only a famicom game but also featured a scene of somebody playing Super Mario Bros.
He's playing Sweet Home in the game, thought Sweet Home wouldn't be released for another six months. Super Mario only appears in the movie.
@@RndStranger sorry I was referring to the movie for the Mario bit.
you didn't have to include this, but the story too weird to ignore. Yes, technically it was a licensed game, but it's also a big nothing too!
Tax Evasion Horror Story (Clock Tower style)...

You accidentally left in multiple takes of "a couple of years ago", around the 7 minute mark
Math Blaster’s got nothin’ on this.
6:05 I don't think this is a question about finance
I think that was the one I could get. 😀

Wakusei Aton Gaiden is a pretty nice game with kinda weird story and a very cool BGM 😮
The music and sound design in this game sounds awfully similar to Over Horizon and Fantasy Zone (Tengen). I'd wager it was made by Pixel (unrelated to cave story).
The music reminds me of Over Horizon. So maybe Hot B hat something to do with the developer? xD Just a guess.^^
The ancestor of Baba files Taxes !

Do I get deductions for poison mushrooms?
"וואכוסיי אתון גאידן"
This is a thing?
when you said av i thought that you gonna talk about adult video,i should stop reading lns,xd
Is that all the official FDS games now? I thought that there was around 200 of them.
There's two more days left in the year...
Well at least this makes taxes sound more interesting than it actually is.
I wish the us government made video games, like for instance tbe CIA making a game about the jfk assassina-
Only in Japanland 😄💹❤️ Brilliant!
