Yeah, I'm not sure what the team's immediate plans are, aside from fixing bugs. Hoping they really work hard to smooth over the rough edges and possibly deliver some expanded content
I haven't made it that far but I just assumed it ended once you kill the final boss. I'm under the impression it's going to be The One Who Waits. And they're the thing giving you powers so it's not a stretch to say you kill them you lose your powers and any reason to have a cult at all.
I love this game, period. It pains me seeing the bugs that make the enemies and bosses glitch outside the map. But with the way you can return back to camp I can forgive. Developers deserve big props for this game. This has been an amazing experience
Always love the honesty in these reviews, I picked it up at launch and I completely agree with everything said here, if it just had a bit more replay value I would still be playing it but I already did everything and I'm done with it
Playing this a year later. No idea what yall saw on release but its a complete blast in 2023. Im not big into roguelikes but i wanted to try my hand at them and the unique cult theme of this game really put it over the edge. Im glad it isnt too refined in its combat system. Keeping it simple and not too relentless was ideal for me. Adding the building/sim elements made it even better. The highlights of the game are the bits of dialogue. Reading the effects if your new commandments. Seeing how much the characters, even in their adorable blithe unawareness, resemble real people who prayed themselves into insanity. Idk how to explain it. Its addictive without being exhausting. Im fine with my games not being 60 hour slogs. Just got it on sale and im having a blast. Also maybe a moral awakening.
With how stale the AAA landscape is in the games industry.... We NEED games like this, they remind us why we game in the first place - its not to simply buy lootboxes!!!
I would say it's more of a Management Sim, but with Rogue-like elements...Stardew Valley also has dungeons (even tho not randomly generated) Great review as always Kodiak!
My fiance's son might like this game. He used to play games like Don't Starve and Binding of Isaac. Also Animal Crossing. So he'll definitely like this.
I love the game except for what I think is a bug where all my follows do not show up in menus. It chooses 6 of them arbitrarily and I have no say. So I have 18 followers and one of them asks me to sacrifice them it's highly likely they won't appear in the temple ever. Stuff like that.
Im really hoping there are some massive updates coming up because right now while immensely fun I feel like its barely more than a pre release but I could see it getting big large updates over the next 6 months.
I love this game, but it feels a bit beta still. It's going to need more content to keep it repayable. Right now it's just a one time play through, but a fantastic one time play
@@KeimpeJ yeah, probably 12-15 hours if you rush. If you take time to build your base up 25 or so. Im moving slow and right below the final tier and Im at 16 hours
@@KeimpeJ oh yeah. I told a buddy of mine the same thing. If you're on the fence hold on for a sale and snag it. They may even have more content by then too
I’m hoping the devs add more content because I LOVE this game!! I wish progression was longer too and that the game as a whole was replayable. Other than that I have no qualms it’s such an awesome game! The concept and art\animations and music are sooo goood! Easily becoming one of my all time fav games!
Thanks for making this review. It's well written and makes a good introduction to the game without feeling overwhelmed. Mind you, I stopped before the 4 minute mark because it fulfilled its purpose by then, at least for me.
my one issue with the combat is sometimes the hurtbox of enemy attacks linger long ofter their attack sequence is over. like taking damage after a frog has already landed
this is a weird game where it's built on two relatively big flawed systems and is still amazing. the management Sim is limited, and the Rouge lite is simple, neither are great mechanically. yet the world is so dark and cute, the rituals so bombastic, and experience so addicting it's a must play. is it perfect? not at all. is it worth playing, hell yeah, one of the great indy gems of the year for sure.
Happy to hear you can do more management parts than dungeons and still progress, etc. I'll definitely be on easy mode, but just don't care for battling in my games much anymore but love the idea of this game. Hopefully a solid Switch patch comes soon, I'm kinda holding off buying it just yet with all the bugs, glitching I've heard so far. Thanks so much for a thorough review!
as my first rougelike, i am absolutely loving it never thought managing health will be a fun thing in a game whereas most games gave infinite supply of potions and healing items RNG is fun rather than being frustrating also this game fills you up, you are not not playing "one more day" like stardew. i play 1½ hour a day and not wanting to play more. really love it.

Im hoping the free dlc will adress the lackluster roguelite elements of the game, since i feel like the game is kinda mediocre on both sides (the building sims and roguelite) Also theres still quite problems of the game, especially on switch console, even on PS5 theres kind of lag/stutter in some scenarios, but the most problem are in the church when we doing rituals, sermon etc it sometimes stuck, also theres a stuck and out of screen problems in the dungeon too So its okay if anyone want to wait for a discounted price, so they will get a better and completed experience of the game
Solid 7.5/10 game. Love it so far. One thing that they need to add is a way to rebalance doctrine so you can try everything thing rather than having to completely start over. Also love that you can actually game over.
I just finished the game and overall liked it, but my biggest problem is the rogue-like gameplay it has. It has way too few weapon choices, it feels there are just two types of weapons honestly and nothing special or funny about them. I really think it should have a much higher variety when it comes to that, also the card draws are pretty boring as well.
I think they put a lot of stock in the life-sim part of things and made a functional dungeon crawling experience. It's not great, but it gets the job done.
@@LegacyGamingUS i think you're right. Just a tad bit dissapointed, as I feel the rogue-like part was the biggest draw for me, eventho I ended up loving the town building and getting followers etc.
Totally agree on the combat critique. Also, it feels like it took a lot of work to get my base going, then I beat the game and I felt a tad robbed. I kept playing to try and flesh out my base a bit more, but there was just a lack of postgame content to justify any more time into it. Still a dope experience and a beautiful game in a lot of ways.
What are you talking about lol. I touched on the first 2 minutes of the story, and then showed off generic gameplay. Would you rather look at my face for 10 minutes? I'm guessing no.
I think you should change your title for this video. It says it’s spoiler free, but then you show/describe what’s happening in the beginning of the game. I didn’t want details of the plot, when trying to find out if this game is good for me.
Well the game did just come out so there’s bound to be some issues and the common consensus seems to be that it’s short but has a lot of potential. With it’s current popularity and the existence of a road map, I’m optimistic the devs will be able to grow and expand their game further to make it a more solid title.
The two biggest criticisms were that the Crusades lack depth, and the base never becomes fully self sufficient. Both of which are end-game complaints. The game is great until it hits a wall at the end.
@@acat5338 true, but that could easily be fixed by making it so that your followers can cook for themselves instead of having you do it. Or more ways to maintain faith in your absence. Like I said, it's flawed but it can be easily fixed and there's tons of potential for improvement. The game is solid at it's core, the devs just need to expand the concept and depth further.
Spoiler free and you reveal almost the entire story :( but the game looks so amazing that i will still get it 😊 since ilove the 4 things that combines 1. Top down hack and slash 2. Dungeon- rogue like 3. Cartoonish crisp graphics 4. Lovecraftian/Dark/Cosmic horror themes
im really interested in religion lore stuff, playing dark souls only amplified it because of solaire, playing elden ring made it worse this probably will make it worse as well
It was fun for a bit but I didn't drink that game's Kool aid. The fact that it forces you to spend 60-70% dealing with your village isn't really nice. The combat is nice enough. The performance on PS5 is awful. Overall it's a great idea, but the balance is off in so many departments, and two years after launch, it performs like poop and is buggy AF.
combat is basic the sim element are decent only thing original is the interaction with followers like rebelions and sickness and faith and rituals but what makes the game boring is the fact that the progression is very linear and easy and there is no player agency you can unlock anything in any order without consequence unlike a game like dont starve where if you waste your time and resources youll die quickly and lose everything where here the only risk is losing followers but you can easily get new ones and many mechanics are useless like every follower being unique at first you think its a big deal but then you see that it makes very little difference and you can all treat them the same so what if he can recover 10% faster from sickness overall i think its a 5/10 game a waster potentiel cuz it has many ideas but doesnt do anything great
