More game websites need to review and give a spotlight to indie games. Indie games getting more popular is only a good thing for the gaming industry as a whole.
Been playing it non-stop since launch day. Had a few crashes every now and then, screen freezing, etc. But nothing game-breaking to me. I could always replay the last few seconds. I've already upgraded everything mostly to the max, so hoping for new updates to bring in more stuff!
Its shutdown my switch a few times, and wish theyd give more love to the rogue like aspect and dungeons. Overall love it. Only wanted it for the pc cuz i was interested in what the modding community would do with it.

My dad's had the worst luck, he was trapped in the village 3 times at start (can't leave village no quests) his rituals froze or didn't work and stole resources several times. And his game just crashed on him twice. He got so mad and frustrated hes not bothering to play anymore. And even asked me if it was actually finished. Meanwhile my file is fine and my sister has only gotten two minor glitches. It's definitely a problem. (This was for xboxX)
For me, on Switch, I started out not seeing any bugs for quite a bit into the game, but I'd say after the halfway point or so they started happening much more frequently all of a sudden. Things like, my lamb wouldn't walk back to the podium after performing a ritual, a follower room wouldn't unlock after I killed all the enemies forcing me to leave, the follower selection menu not showing up when I try to perform rituals sometimes so I'd have to save and restart, Not being able to collect loyalty anymore after getting the last weapon upgrade, even though there were other minor upgrades left to get, a bunch of followers still walking around with their hoods up after performing a ritual and leaving the building, a dissenting follower I've locked up in prison sometimes appearing in the middle of the entrance instead of in the prison (still in the locked up pose), devotion bars not updating after collecting it from a building that generates it, gardening plots glitching out if I tried to interact with one at the same time as a follower, so the plant would get picked but visually it's still there and I can't interact with it anymore....one time I straight up just lost the ability to help with any construction... It's a lot.
First game I’ve played all the way through since as long as I can remember. Such a great game. I didn’t have many issues with bugs aside from being stuck in a room two or three times.
From what I've heard from others, the cult builder aspect overshadows the rogue-like aspect. It doesn't mean it's bad mind you. If any of you like it, then it's fine by me.
Had it since release day, and I love it (despite rogue-likes and resource management games are two genres I don't love), but at this point (about 90 days in) I'm so tired of wrestling with the glitches that it's pretty much unplayable for me
I know this is late but I just finished it myself. The glitches and my game crashing has frustrated me so much I was ready to quit and not touch the game lol. It really sucks :/
I actually just recently found out about this game a couple months ago and I freaking love it! It's so much fun. The only real issues I've found are that the game sometimes gets a little laggy once you get 15 to 20 followers. Or sometimes when the Switch is put in sleep mode the game might be a little glitchy when you come back to it. Nothing major or game breaking though.

The minor glitches weren’t a deal breaker and i genuinely enjoy and love the game and gameplay. My only criticism would be a feature that allows you to immediately pick up where you died when facing a boss instead of having to restart the dungeon all over again. But i suppose that’s the “rogue-like” element of it? 🤷🏿♂️ It’s my first time playing a “rogue-like” game so not sure if that’s a common thing in that genre.
It feels like an early access, which is really sad. If you haven't bought it yet I'd suggest waiting for a few months. Patches are already coming out on other platforms so hopefully not a long wait for it to be a bit more polished
at the start this game is so overwhelming with all the tasks and keeping your followers devoted... but once you get the janitor, healing and wood stone mines, the game gives you a breather... loved this game I am still ways to go but the game has been fantastic.
This game on ps5 is amazing...however, it's still glitchy and you cannot complete the snail trophy for the platinum as its bugged. Devs got some work to do if it's become as big as it seems.
It’s a buggy mess, unfortunately. The fact that you can only have 6 followers come inside your temple at once when on PC you get access to your entire cult at once. It’s soft locked so often when you try to perform a ritual I actually lost count.

I'm enjoying the hell out of this game but yeah there are a bunch of glitches that just kinda ruin certain moments for me. Aside from softlocks, I've lost a few quests because not all of my followers show up for ritual so if I'm trying to do something specific with one of them then I'm pretty much screwed. There's also a visual glitch since the very beginning for me where The one who waits and its guardians are white colored instead of black and although odd I do find it amusing and in a way nice since I am able to appreciate its expressions more lol.
I've been excitedly keeping an eye on this game, but I'm disappointed to hear it's so much of a technical mess. I suppose I'll have to wait until (hopefully) patches make it playable.

Blame the hardware. The game has a unique style and visual elements that area tiny bit GPU intensive that cutting back on it wouldn't make it what it already is. They worked with what they had and did pretty good imo. It's just that pretty good is almost unplayable because of the garbage hardware. Not everyone has a Nintendo team that powerhouses through optimization. Get a Steam deck or similar, Get a cart dumper for the switch games you buy / already have, and emulate them even better than real hardware.
So buggy and glitchy on my switch unfortunately! Still continue to play it though. It glitched during rituals and I’ve had to save and open the game, do the ritual again, it glitches again. Only dealt with that twice though. It’s gotten worse as I add more things/decorations around the land 😩 disconnected mid fight with one of the Bishops too. I was wondering about why only a certain number of followers were in my temple compared to others but thanks to the comments i got my answer. Playing on PC seems to be the best option imo.

I've played Hades, The Witcher 3, Nier: Automata, Alien Isolation, etc. on the Switch and they all run really well. No excuse for a 2D game to run so poorly, even if there's a lot going on on the screen.

I mostly wait to buy games on sale, but I've loved so many Devolver titles that I picked this up right away on Switch. I was enjoying it until I encountered the black fog issue that softlocked me at camp. So...I quit out and began from scratch. Again, small glitches and hiccups begin creeping in to ruin the experience. Enemies become invisible or glitch outside the level. The biggest issue is the framerate when multiple entities inhabit the screen at once or at the start of a new day. It's a struggle even making food for just 13 cult members as, the instant I complete the minigame and prepare the first meal, they all approach the food stand at once and the framerate plummets so horribly that it becomes impossible to accurately do the minigame unless I'm making Berry Bowls or something with an enormously forgiving target. I've given up for now and moved on. It seems like a fun game, but unplayable until these problems are addressed.
Gameplay loop looks fantastic to me…the theme kind of makes me uncomfortable though :/ which is what they’re going for, but all the same I think I’ll have to pass

Crashed twice on switch, and one menu glitch. Not sure if it's my problem, I cannot crusade and I don't have resources for the quest, so my game is stuck.
They really need to patch the performance on switch. Once you have alot of buildings and followers (15+) it gets very laggy. It even gets so far that you are almost unable to cook cause the lag makes it impossible to hit the green bar consistently. Also, when you are with your cult and a new day starts you get up to 5 sec. Freezes.
I will definitely keep this on my radar because the game ticks so many boxes for me, but I would rather wait for now. I'm confident that the devs can patch this up to run nicely though.
Oh there's plenty of games Christians will never touch these days. I have a pentecostal friend and I feel so bad for his son. He barely even allows him to play Mario games.
Runs like garbage, even after over a year since release. Constant freezes, crashes, and input lag make it basically unplayable for me. Better to get it on any other platform.
I've been playing on the switch and it's my favorite game by far, the soft-locking is the only problem, and they're just gonna fix it in a update. Amazing game 10/10
The game is great but it is literally not worth it for the Switch. Opt to get it on PC or something, the Switch has all the bugs the PC does but cranked up to 500 with constant FPS drops, actual gameplay blocks (ONLY 6 out of 15 cultists would show up to sermons and quests where cultists ask to get sacrificed couldn't be completed because they weren't one of the 6 to show up to the sermons) and constant soft locks when actually fighting. PC has the soft lock issues in fights but not nearly to the same degree and they get patched faster.
honestly the game was fine when playing in the beginning but then got to the endgame and decorated my cult. Boom framerate drops, lag here and there. I cant play because im scared of it crashing or just cant do normal things anymore
Could be worse, could be Civ 6, which, after years of being out, still crashes probably once every 2 hours on average and has multiple UI glitches that affect you even when the game is running correctly.
It’s been a few weeks and the patches have helped but the game is still A mess past the second world. A lot of crashes and frame drops when a few enemies attack at once. It becomes unplayable and will crash every run.
I have 4 followers and now can't seem to leave the camp. After googling it it looks like a ritual bug, I have a ritual on cooldown and can't progress until that's done.... But it was good until that point
To all those Christians that have a problem with this game: deal with it. Your religion is not the objective truth and is certainly not above criticism.
No doubt it's a good game, but the problems you mentioned in your personal thoughts section kinda overshadows the positive for me. Plus, I'm not in the mood of playing the head of mindless cult members who can't even cook their own food.
not quite enjoyable in lite tho maybe bc of the screen ration so rather i played it most often in oled but rvet tho it has tons of bugs hope they'll fix it soon

Is it me or it just frame drops when you open the game every single time. Like the "Devolver Digital" logo just stutters every single time. Also the animation/cutscene when you receive the crown also stutters. 😬
The game is awesome, but the performance really ruined the experience for me. After reaching 16 members in my cult and increasing the number of buildings the game crashed frequently. And after the second boss, the dungeons got unplayable as well :( I had to leave it unfinished until they hopefully can fix the issues
Same for me, loved the game sooooo much but damn these freezes and performance issues with late game cult forced me to stop the game until it gets patched, it's a shame
I’m getting tired of the switch not running anything properly. Practically every new game that has come out recently runs poorly unless it’s first party and has been optimised. I’m very ready for a more powerful console so I can enjoy games like this without any of the bugs or awful performance.
It's such a shame that I can't trust the Switch anymore for third party titles. It feels like almost every new game suffers to run on the Switch nowadays. It really sucks, and makes me with Nintendo could announce a pro model or sucessor already, the hardware is just too outdated now.
This isn't a switch problem PS/Xbox have same issues with Xbox being the smoothest but still bad. Only PC seems to run "perfectly" I say that only because some glitches have been reported but nothing game breaking unlike console. It's not a issue with the switch not being able to run it but the team not optimizing or testing enough for console.
Awesome game just DON'T BUY IT ON SWITCH It keeps freezing a lot, buging a lot and crushing it gets to the point where you can't even complete some missions or you lost because of the input lag or you lost your resources because the game freezes I love this game but it's not worth it in switch just play it on pc and it's a completely different game
Only about 10 minutes for the Roguelike gameplay? I thought it was like 30+ for the combat. I can't accept that after playing 30 or more minutes on every run for Roguelike games like Dead Cells and Hades
I loved the game, but couldn't play it on switch, performance is pretty shit, some graphical bugs here and there, but the main issue was that I was getting crashes. I ended up double dipping and getting the steam version, way better experience for me overall.
The game is so bad *on switch*, that I had to get it refunded... it's a shame since I had it pre ordered and got the extras. I opted for ps4 and plays well there
Well I went to nintendos website and contacted support, through chat support. I told them the situation and they looked into it and refunded me. They're definitely more strict but its doable for extreme situations.

I got it on xbox S/X and it keeps messing with my HDMI out. like the tv starts going crazy sometimes. it's odd. hope the patch comes out soon

Definitely seems like my type of game, but the performance is unexcuseable. Probably just wait a few months until is properly patched up.
The soundtrack is quite good, I feel it's a bit undersold in this review.

Gameplay loop looks fantastic to me…the theme kind of makes me uncomfortable though :/ which is what they’re going for, but all the same I think I’ll have to pass
The game is really good guys mines some bugs but trust me it's ganna get fixed. I have be playing it non stop and honestly love it. The bugs are not even that bad.
Crashed twice on switch, and one menu glitch. Not sure if it's my problem, I cannot crusade and I don't have resources for the quest, so my game is stuck.

They really need to patch the performance on switch. Once you have alot of buildings and followers (15+) it gets very laggy. It even gets so far that you are almost unable to cook cause the lag makes it impossible to hit the green bar consistently. Also, when you are with your cult and a new day starts you get up to 5 sec. Freezes.
I will definitely keep this on my radar because the game ticks so many boxes for me, but I would rather wait for now. I'm confident that the devs can patch this up to run nicely though.

Oh there's plenty of games Christians will never touch these days. I have a pentecostal friend and I feel so bad for his son. He barely even allows him to play Mario games.

Runs like garbage, even after over a year since release. Constant freezes, crashes, and input lag make it basically unplayable for me. Better to get it on any other platform.
I've been playing on the switch and it's my favorite game by far, the soft-locking is the only problem, and they're just gonna fix it in a update. Amazing game 10/10
Nothing like trying to face a boss that spams enemies all over the place, then the game decides to lag like no tomorrow.

The game is great but it is literally not worth it for the Switch. Opt to get it on PC or something, the Switch has all the bugs the PC does but cranked up to 500 with constant FPS drops, actual gameplay blocks (ONLY 6 out of 15 cultists would show up to sermons and quests where cultists ask to get sacrificed couldn't be completed because they weren't one of the 6 to show up to the sermons) and constant soft locks when actually fighting. PC has the soft lock issues in fights but not nearly to the same degree and they get patched faster.
This feels like a mash up between "The Sword of Ditto" and "Oxygen not Included"

honestly the game was fine when playing in the beginning but then got to the endgame and decorated my cult. Boom framerate drops, lag here and there. I cant play because im scared of it crashing or just cant do normal things anymore
It just got patched, it runs a lot better, now. The 6 followers issue I stated in my last comment has been fixed, and now they all go in.
Hopefully it'll get upped from an 8 to a 9 once the bugs and glitches are fixed
I ordered the physical so hopefully by the time it gets here it's all patched up.

Could be worse, could be Civ 6, which, after years of being out, still crashes probably once every 2 hours on average and has multiple UI glitches that affect you even when the game is running correctly.
It’s been a few weeks and the patches have helped but the game is still A mess past the second world. A lot of crashes and frame drops when a few enemies attack at once. It becomes unplayable and will crash every run.
Game plays at 30 fps max. In battles 15 fps on Switch Oled (docked or not).
I recommend to avoid this bugfest untill patched. Unplayable for now.
I have 4 followers and now can't seem to leave the camp. After googling it it looks like a ritual bug, I have a ritual on cooldown and can't progress until that's done.... But it was good until that point

No doubt it's a good game, but the problems you mentioned in your personal thoughts section kinda overshadows the positive for me. Plus, I'm not in the mood of playing the head of mindless cult members who can't even cook their own food.
not quite enjoyable in lite tho maybe bc of the screen ration so rather i played it most often in oled but rvet tho it has tons of bugs hope they'll fix it soon

This game is literally unplayable for me because it crashes so much. Other than the bugs, I give it 10/10. With the bugs, maybe a 7/10.

Is it me or it just frame drops when you open the game every single time. Like the "Devolver Digital" logo just stutters every single time. Also the animation/cutscene when you receive the crown also stutters. 😬
The game is awesome, but the performance really ruined the experience for me. After reaching 16 members in my cult and increasing the number of buildings the game crashed frequently. And after the second boss, the dungeons got unplayable as well :( I had to leave it unfinished until they hopefully can fix the issues
Same for me, loved the game sooooo much but damn these freezes and performance issues with late game cult forced me to stop the game until it gets patched, it's a shame
I’m getting tired of the switch not running anything properly. Practically every new game that has come out recently runs poorly unless it’s first party and has been optimised. I’m very ready for a more powerful console so I can enjoy games like this without any of the bugs or awful performance.

It's such a shame that I can't trust the Switch anymore for third party titles. It feels like almost every new game suffers to run on the Switch nowadays. It really sucks, and makes me with Nintendo could announce a pro model or sucessor already, the hardware is just too outdated now.
This isn't a switch problem PS/Xbox have same issues with Xbox being the smoothest but still bad. Only PC seems to run "perfectly" I say that only because some glitches have been reported but nothing game breaking unlike console.
It's not a issue with the switch not being able to run it but the team not optimizing or testing enough for console.

Awesome game just DON'T BUY IT ON SWITCH It keeps freezing a lot, buging a lot and crushing it gets to the point where you can't even complete some missions or you lost because of the input lag or you lost your resources because the game freezes
I love this game but it's not worth it in switch just play it on pc and it's a completely different game
Only about 10 minutes for the Roguelike gameplay? I thought it was like 30+ for the combat. I can't accept that after playing 30 or more minutes on every run for Roguelike games like Dead Cells and Hades

I loved the game, but couldn't play it on switch, performance is pretty shit, some graphical bugs here and there, but the main issue was that I was getting crashes. I ended up double dipping and getting the steam version, way better experience for me overall.

Well I went to nintendos website and contacted support, through chat support. I told them the situation and they looked into it and refunded me. They're definitely more strict but its doable for extreme situations.
