Brave in D tier are you kidding? A tier for me.
I practically NEVER die in battle. If I have the brave trait, I don't involve myself in them. Like one of you pointed out, decent commanders aren't exactly rare, especially at higher ranks. It's also virtuous to Asatru and other religions.
Humble A tier is also weird to me, it's stress machine to the one who wishes to expand.

I think Impatient is really underrated because it unlocks a decision that allows you to execute a scheme immediately. If you have a 95% success chance anyways there is literally no reason for you to wait 12 months and click away all the events on every scheme so it can be quite handy on an intrigue character

I play vikings, so I use my leader as a commander. Brave is A tier my dude. You take the first perk from chivalry lifestyle, and negate any penalty. I never lost a brave leader in battle. Just saying, brave wrathful vengeful are all A/S tier for the direct command style, which is a really strong playstyle.

    • @laszlobandi6456
      @laszlobandi6456 26 дней назад

with genius you got 30% learning any tree, accolades on tactician can give up to 60 (realistically 40-50 but if you fight a lot you get it maxed) and books, well, for learning my max was 100% for martial maybe 40-60%. could clear strategist or absolver and 4-8 gallant (technically the marriage acceptance might worth early) and still do other trees. as a piety is a good trait, and it's a piety for most tribals, not just asatru, depending on location, you could swap to Táltosism for example and vengeful is not piety, wrathful isn't either but brave and honest and gregarious is so a bunch of norse have those. vengeful feels bad for the crazy amount of rival events which lead to house feuds then a loop of assasinations. especially that rivals are competitors but also enemies, I don't really want to bother with a bunch of wandering nobodies but I do get killed by their plots.

  • @wsw2291

A brief case for Brave: I often make custom characters as a Tribal count and give my character huge prowess and martial to gobble up land quickly. I find it difficult to truly rate the personality traits, because a lot of it depends of the religion/culture of your character. Personally I see Brave as an S-tier trait in most cases. Especially as I absolutely love playing Norse, where Brave is a virtue and also adds piety. Leading your troops on raids, getting viking trait and becoming filthy rich, definitely great.

The best trait by far is „generous“ (especially in endgame) in combination with creating your own religion where you are the pope in combination with communions where you will get gold presence every 3 seconds ranging from 100 to 1500 gold and the cultural tradition where gold presences are more common and if you do them you get +20% opinion bonus.
Combine that with a good diplomatic education and the skill where you get more opinion bonus on presences.
Now you have nearly infinite money and you can get every character to +100 opinion no matter how he hates you in addition you get stress relief every time you make a money present through generous which basically means stress is no longer relevant and you also get the money back immediately.
Combine that with „diligent“ and the development option which comes with it and you are very OP.
(stress is really no problem at all now, money too and you can make everybody love you through money)
It’s the most effective way in endgame to create a very stable kingdome and very stable character

since the pairs often swap for grandsons, if you don't educate them directly, good traits are the ones with good opposites and mild debuffs on the negative ones
      my personal choice would be
1 lazy (to get diligent), arbitrary ok
      2 arrogant or callous
3 humble except if intrigue, honest in taltosism or sami
4 diligent best trait both steward and martial but all good
5 fickle for diplo or intrigue but forgiving for stewards except norse wrathful
      6 stubborn
      7 temperate
8 greedy cause great pair with generous just different perspective (vassals don't build with greedy) gregarious good for feasts and now the leisure palace with small bonuses better for capital than tax office, especially with grand marriages
9 zealous, except for tribal martial then brave
10 ambitious except for nepfews, sadistic ok for you or your heir but he can't be landed and you need to rush inheritance
11 content and trusting for vassals and non heir kids, fickle just for intrigue or diplo
12 impatient best but shy ok for artificers
overwrite any if it's a piety for your faith
rulers that can both gain and lose stress with activities are pretty good(also a 'bad' trait which is ok, but the opposite is good, is great for the above reason getting it a different setup on grandson), learning education can handle bad traits, as the stress reductions are better. check wiki for hidden traits on the traits, basically sliders, they all come with 2-4 extra stats, would go for rationality and greed. I play steward, bossy is better than pensive, basically the more tyrannical style. you can influence that by having more stewardship and martial, and your wife too. I focus on genius trait, that increases stats a lot and education in any tree. so I wouldn't care about stats from the traits too much, also it won't count for education stars, also the focus either, won't take opposite but neutral is fine to force a path at first if you know what you going for. 12 learning is minimum for the mystic event line but requires a specific trait setup, not sure what. good trait combos can trigger events in specific learning combinations, like steward/domain/duty focus with diligent and either stubborn or temperate or some buffs and I had every year a road/aquaduct/cattle/improvement event line and finished stewardship 3 trees by age 42, without book artifacts. on learning you can have similar if you befriend your priest, steal his book and ask his help for reading, get 1-1-1 learning, swap your priest and repeat. if you start on learning and trigger stress, you can get the better reductions. 12 perks and swap to other tree then go back later when you get older, you can get around 10 years to live with iron constitution and another perk and finally the whole body. with books you clear learning way too fast so then you can't use the last points.

  • @itsjess012

Lustful isn't that bad to play with if you don't have a confederate partition as your succession type. The easiest way to farm renown and gold is by having lots of kids, marrying them off to neighbouring rulers, and then getting the stewardship perk of getting paid for hooks.

Sadistic is easilly S or high A tier. The fact that you can kill off kids is amazing. Especially if you somehow fucked up (we all have at some point) and have heirs that are outside of your dynasty. It can be the only saviour in an ironman game. Do not underestimate the power of the dark side xD Having one sinful trait is not gonna kill you, even if you work alot with piety. You make it sound way worse than it is ^^
Also trusting IMO deserves to be lowest of D tiers, maybe even F tier. It has like zero benefits other than 2 diplomacy, the rest is absolute trash with it. It's an NPC trait, you love having vassals with this trait, but having it on yourself or kids? Hell no. It's really bad.

there are 17 pairs and 2 of those are 3x, with eccentric being the new one. gives -200 rationality but people seem to love it for the skills. there are like 8? sliders and hidden traits for each of them. also the fact that a trait often swaps to it's opposite for your grandkids, makes ok pairs better than cherry picking one trait then having a horrible opposite. had to search for the 12 you said but I'm certain that there are others that give traits. there were differences in traits between faiths, I saw zealous in different ones. gotta compare to wiki for sliders, see which event adds what, might be a pattern.
when I got a wife/prisoner that has a piety trait, I don't ask them to convert. for example wise man on max level for Táltosism (born as mystic) was instant winner for the election, even being my smaller kid, he inherited a kingdom while I was ruling, lost it, gained it back, became my heir and no one ever tried to kill him. it's a low cost tenet with a high roll random trait, but it's better than the varangian adventurer prestige and skills. they judged traits based on asatru and catholic. asatru gets weaker if the scandinavians convert, jomsviking fails and cultures split. catholic is a lazy choice that is not great and too big to control it, reforming it is a bit unrealistic. especially considering how good insular is for uk, or krstjani for balkans or other holy sites, and tribals with catholic syncretism get the marriages without giving up the other bonuses.

Brave 100% capture or death is completely negated by high prowess, it is extremely easy to get prowess in this game especially after tours and tournaments. As some events increase your prowess by +1 or 2 permanently. If you have over 20 prowess your chances of dying is practically non existent. It's bare minimum of A tier trait, as it has absolutely no downsides, and extra popular and attractiveness opinion is a cherry on the cake! Its also pious with the Asatru Faith which is easily the best faith in the game! Not only will it let you raid as a kingdom it will also give your knights the Berserker trait every time they kill on the battlefield, given that they are also of a North Germanic descent.

And Wrathful I would lower it because you may end up murdering someone during feasts (maybe hunt as well?), including your best heir or some other important character - than can really mess up your plans and this is not a choice, you only get a choice after the murder to kill some witness as well but it already happened.

honest is ok, not that bad of a stress, but wouldn't take with just, one of those are fine but together is crazy stres on plots.
I lost a game with arpad almos, because I landed my son, had a kid with a concubine, I started a plot to kill her but a pox killed my son and then their kid and she was next in line for the empire, game over because couldn't kill her without killing myself from stress and literally had to delay the plot when she got pregnant which was all the more reason to kill her earier. piety traits btw (honest) for Táltosism which is really good holy sites for east europe.

Obviously a lot of those placements can change depending on if your religion has this trait as a virtue/sin, or if your culture has maluses to them etc. the really fun thing is that your placements can heavily vary on your playstyle which is pretty great, for example hostile schemes are pretty much my last resort, so traits like Honest and Forgiving are much more valuable to me than any of the intrigue ones. overall I would mostly agree with the tier list except for Brave, its an overall really good trait, I almost never lead my armies except for start of game where I can restart if I perish, or I actively want to die, but it still is a very well liked trait with a lot of positives so I would say its B for me

they are in pairs and have hidden stats, you can check wiki
a good skill is something that has a good opposite, since your grandkids are more likely to inherit. your own skills pass down to your kids and it's less and less likely to repeat, unless you force it by taking stress, the ai won't do that, so you often end up with an opposite skill. these hidden traits are like greed, zeal, energy, sociability, boldness, rationality, honor, vengefulness, compassion so it controls the struggles and inner conflicts, also some characters are middle or close to middle. Jarl Dyre for example has the cynical trait often pop up as an option in stress events, and you swap out gregarious for it.
The traits come from education path, I suppose religion then parents. often gives traits related to sins and pieties, that's why I think, the 2-3 choices are not only pairs but sometimes it's a pair, gotta check next time for hidden stats. for example gives zealous, sadist or paranoid in one hunt event.
The marriage options change based on prestige levels and house renown, religion is biggest, but it is what it is, hard to overcome and if you do you won't get value for the same part. 15 per trait is generally not bad, characters rarely share 3 trait, even 2 is rare. it's common for siblings tho, and friends share 2-3 and rivals share 1 sometimes.
That said, dilligent is good for both steward (develop capital) and martial (warhorse) and few other events. but lazy is not that big of a deal either, you can skip stuff for stress reduction or gain stress by forcing yourself.
Temperate good for the events that make your overeat or overdrink, I think it comes handy as an excuse. That's the other part , traits allow special choices in events and usually are good outcomes.
Ambitious is the opposite of content, which isn't good for you, unless you expanded a lot. also if you play a lot, you gonna see that one greedy ambitious nephew you trained and takes your throne when you get infirm.
chaste is only good for catholic, and lustful in a custom faith would be always better. but it is annoying when you want specific heirs and don't have elections. that event comes as a 2 way choice but if not, I would not take either, rather would not be on that focus, same thing with brave and craven.
sadist is a triple with callous and compassionate. it's super fun and easy to play as sadist but having others on it, it's a disaster during hunts and feasts.
    calm/wrathful okayish, again, asatru piety.
    best is greedy/generous
    diligent/lazy
shy/gregarious ok, pops up often enough for feasts, also shy makes good artificers +5 point, scheme resistance and travel safety also good, and stress can be manageable if it's the only skill.
humble/arrogant is great pair. arrogant is actually a good amount of prestige and only matters with lowborn decisions and you can make lowborns house members by landing them in secondary castles.
    patient/impatient also decent pair.
zealous/cynical decent. playing as steward I end up like evil thinker or something smart but a dick, so generally I'm on the cynical side, for roleplay is fine.
people like the new eccentric but it's -200 rationality. also pairs with stubborn which is also only ok for stats but not hidden stats, fickle is ok for a few reasons but as a steward not :D
trusting/paranoid pair is the worst that's true. you jump out of a window instead of taking your birthday gift. but also has scheme resistance options so if you manage your stress, it's not that bad of a trait for the event options. but the trusting gets you killed as a higher rank. honest+just is also a bad combo, while deceitful and arbitrary are ok on intrigue path.
all in all, I really liked characters that are able to gain stress and lose stress at the same time with their traits. also some people mentioned that it's quite good to use a stress level 2 for like torturer path or avaricious. you can absolutely have characters that die from stress, or you need to do crazy stuff if you ever stress, like send away all the courtiers or burn down the land. but it also not complete without stress reductions, which are always better on learning path, like flagellant, journaller or athletic. even tho I focus on learning than phisicality, athletic is better because it can spread trought the event and it pops up in stress choices too, so yo ucan ignore bad choices afterwards. flagellant is good to train physicians, you might need a few books to buff your health.
irritable is also a fun reduction which is best if you can gain stress, like shy for example, you start and stop an action, then use irritable to bonk someone, if chained up on rivals, they might get a serious injury from 2 duels.
stress reductions can also 'inherit' so order might matter. I had a bunch of fat kings with hungary, having too many direct vassals, too many feasts, everyone died of gout or overeating or drinking issues. choosing a wife with visibly smaller body made my next king smaller and have no overeating issues. so height and weight and other things might inherit too.
so I would rather choose and force a good pair than highroll for something like brave or temperate or ambitious. but if you want some fun, try focusing on the hidden traits, open wiki and check what they give and always choose one set like max rationality or zeal or something, might change events a lot or balance it out for a medium one and get events that way.

    For myself:
S Tier- Diligent, Temperate, Stubborn. Best traits for a Stewardship character.
A Tier- Greedy, Gregarious, Content, Humble, Patient. Greedy is good imo because of the crazy amount of money you can get while at lvl 1 stress and the Avaricious skill tree combined. Content, Humble, and Patient are good traits to give Children you plan to turn into monks or to have for vassals so they don't mess with you.
B Tier- Sadistic, Just, Chaste, Calm, Wrathful. Just is just annoying sometimes since it makes you gain stress for demanding payments from hooks or doing almost ANY hostile scheme.
C Tier- Fickle, Arbitrary, Arrogant, Callous, Deceitful, Forgiving, Vengeful, Trusting, Lustful. Usually traits I really don't care to ever give my children.
D Tier- Honest, Compassionate, Brave, Impatient, Cynical. More traits I'd just rather not have.
F Tier- Generous, Lazy, Gluttonous, Craven, Shy. Traits I'D NEVER WANT. Generous is here purely because it makes me gain less money.
FFFF Tier- Paranoid. If I ever see this as an option for my child Idc if I am gaining Lvl 3 stress. I am not having a paranoid heir.
I know no one asked but hey I felt like doing one of these myself since I have like 600+hrs in the game.

Sometimes being able to gain stress on demand is good. There are several mechanics in game that give bonuses per stress level. Getting Athletic or Journaller from a mental break is always nice. As long as you have a bit of disease resistance you can camp out at level 2 stress relatively safely.
To me that makes Honest and Just very good traits. You can blackmail and get money if you want some stress. You can reveal secrets to reduce stress. I think there's an argument for Just being as high as S tier and Honest being as high as A.

content has a beautiful +20 same opinion bonus which is pretty useful for keeping your realm peaceful even if you don't have a good diplomat ruler. also gregarious is A for me because it has no downsides.

Awesome tier list. Would love to see one for traits we want/wouldn’t want on vassals. Such as ambitious or vengeful being something you wouldn’t want

Paranoid actually saved my game once. My character didn’t have an heir and everyone in my empire hated me and since he was paranoid he was able to find and stop a bunch of murder schemes with high success chances until he had a child. It could’ve been our luck but I wouldn’t know.

Callous is an exellent trait, because with that you don't get stress from "morallu questionable" acts, and it doesn't have the negative opinion and piety effects of sadistic.

a lot of these are skill specific, religion Specific, or Situational.
Say you want to make a Intrigue Focused Character, Paranoid, Deceitful, and Vengeful/Sadistic are your go to 3.
A Warrior? Brave, Wrathful, Diligent (as a Norse), Etc etc.
GOLD GOLD GOLD? Stubborn/ Temperate/ Greedy (if you play with the Stress)

Really enjoyed this. I like giving Chaste for my kids because I find that after they're grown and they're on their own while I'm still ruling, I find that it keeps them out of trouble until I can take control of them. By the same token, that's why I try to avoid Lustful.

I like paranoid cause it helps with intrigue. But only take it if you have the gold for lots of feasts, hunts, grand rites, etc. Or possibly another trait that comes with decisions to manage stress. Generous makes it really easy, if you have a lot of gold. Lose stress from sending gifts,

Greedy is one of my least favorite traits, I often use gifts to manipulate vassals and secure loyalties and it constantly gets in my way. I would place it in F tier! Also this list feels a little specific to playstyle, to someone who prefers diplomacy and martial over intrigue and stewardship a lot of these would be switched.

Brave in D is crazy though. Martial ruler in Tribal with chivalry and sull strategist tree makes you pretty much unstoppable. You basically become a living legend at like 45yo. Also you get the ego of the gigachad character so...
