I wish Govee would make an actual Syncbox alternative though rather than camera based systems. I dont know why but the camera on top of the screen really irritates me and ruins the whole set up to the point I cant have one. I would love an actual box that does it
@@TwanJaarsveld1 I have have the Govee Flow Pro Bars camera on the bottom of the screen but it’s hidden behind the Center Speaker of the surround sound system.
It's a shame it can't go at the bottom of the screen. With the explosion of WFH cameras and bars (Poly P15 for example), space at the top and center of monitors is at a premium these days.
@@Oreonis I can't see any info on that update. As Paul Hibbert says in his video, it has to go at the top of the screen. Also, on page 3 of the manual (cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0512/3489/8105/files/B604A.pdf?v=1640077723) it still states "Ensure the camera is positioned at the top-center of the screen". It'll be great if this can be resolved with a software update, but at the moment that doesn't appear to be the case.
@@Oreonis well assuming that's the case, that's great news. It's weird that Paul explicitly calls that out at 10:05 as a feature that's only available in the old model, but not this one, and so does the installation manual. Perhaps they've updated it in the last couple of days?
I have been using a DIY ambilight solution on my TV, Hyperion. You run it from a Raspberry Pi, an HDMI switch amongst other bits. I'm very glad I put the extra effort in to DIY it rather than the out of the box Govee camera based system that I was considering at the time. I highly recommend it for the level of customisation and with the current version I think you have the choice of whether you want a camera based system or an HDMI feed. I don't recommend unless you're happy to do a lot of tinkering to get it working. It works with Home Assistant, I have 2 profiles set up, one for when the TV is in it's normal position facing the living room and one for when the TV is turned towards the kitchen (detected with a door sensor) to dim the lights on the side which are now closer to the wall, so it is less harshly backlit.
I love Govee's new products and prebuilt effects and their price is very attractive. But I still can't justify replacing my whole house from Hue to Govee because hue uses a bridge and the lights are a lot more responsive. I have one room that's Govee and it's just not the same experience as my Hue rooms, also having a lot of Govee lights would be a big burden on my router. I wish they develop a bridge or fingers crossed Matter makes them more responsive. Thoughts?
After writing this comment I realize Paul already addressed this multiple times and is one of his pet peeves lol Oh well, just my personal experience. There are some other options that use Zigbee or some sort of private mesh network like Lifx uses. All that being said, I wish I switched to Lifx before getting 30 bulbs deep into Hue lol.
If you reach goove support service, they sent you a new control box to use with an old (compatible) product, so you can update the software and sync your lights.
I have the Govee Camera and lights installed on a 65 inch TV and I have the Phillips hue sync box installed on a 70 inch TV. I don’t think either product has anything to worry about. They’re both good but, I do like The Phillips hue sync box much better. However, on the GOVEE system. If you lose Internet connection the lights will continue to sync to where the Phillips HDMI Sync box will not. There’s pros and cons to each of them.
About those complains regarding Hue Play sync box: you need to remember that TV can handle only 3 CEC "playback" type devices - and that's how most devices are being introduced to your tv. So you might need to disable CEC on some of them.
It actually does work with the old ones just fine. I have the H6199 . The main problem with the sync centre I found is that it disables the ability to us the API to turn them on in HA. once you turn them on you can use the API to trurn them off using an automation.
Govee needs to take the kit they are using for computer monitors and upsize it for TVs at least up to 65". The gaming kit won't fit most monitors anyway. I'd rather put the light rope type setup on my TV than just a plain LED strip. I'm stuck at the moment because as soon as I buy the current TV kit they will come out with an improved kit similar to the gaming one.
Another thing to note about Govee is that their customer service is awesome. If you use their forum, you can get free things, along with participating in events.
Also the fact that Govee played with the listing and the listing has 17k reviews for an item released just recently with reviews for older generation items (completely different item) from 2 years ago and more is a telltale sign of how good and still how bad the company is. Why Govee, Why?
My "older" camera with the 2nd generation box supports DreamView and I love it. But I bought the 65ft RGBIC light strips to go around all the corners of my living room ceiling, but the problem is the light strip advertises itself as 1 strip (just like your standing lamp does) but there are 2 separate strips of RGBIC lights that extend out from their central power source box. And the area mapping applies to both strips equally in their same respective spot down the strip. So the area mapping doesn't work at all. Half the room is perfect and the other half just mirrors that effect and doesn't correspond to the side of the TV it should be mimicking. You've got the ability to tug on Govee's ear, can you tell them to go back to the drawing board for their area mapping on certain devices? The light bars advertise as 1 strip like your standing lamp, but they divide the strip down the middle for half the spots controlling one bar and he other half the other bar. They need to apply the same logic to their RGBIC strips that have one central power source feeding multiple strips. I Subscribed to your channel in hopes this persuades you to pass on my suggestions to your contact at Govee 😁
I have to say your dedication to the smart home seems to become stronger as time goes on where I am pushing further and further away from all of this craziness.
Funny. I started writing this before you threatened us with a fish slapping. I like Govee, thanks to you I have a number of their devices around the house and am happy with them. Unfortunately, after a while, its very noticeable with the Govee - because it uses a CAM!. Anyway, IMHO the Lytmi is so much superior to the Govee Sync Box I'm willing to forgo syncing up all my devices. Thanks Paul.

So what’s the go-to now? I liked the look of the Lytmi apart from the singular input… those strips on the govee look like they plug straight in, so fixed length?
I wish Govee TV backlight could turn on when TV turns on. I forget to use it 99% of the time. I like the backlight but going to app to turn it on or off every time sucks and I end up never doing it. Though I guess I could create a routine in home assistant to watch the TV status. More things to do now! Why can’t you put it on a large monitor? I have the old version on my 85” TV even though it says only 65”. I just have a Gap at bottom which is blocked by my sound bar anyways. Block the bottom where your desk reduces the benefit.
It is really funny because I just bought the tv backlight 2 days ago and have got the p1 bars and neon tv backlight and I agree with you it is an amazing product, you always make crazy funny videos, keep up all the good work and like if you think he is the best 👍🏻
You can but it requires a splitter. You essentially split the signal so that one side goes to the sync box and one goes directly to the tv. Not ideal at all but can be done!
I do agree with Bezos this episode, there are not enough yachts, I wonder if there will ever be enough, I am on the edge of my seat every episode, I hope this series gets renewed for another season
1 comment 1 question. First comment, will not buy until next version where you can put on the bottom. This is how I have my TV setup and do not want that bulky cam on top of monitor. Second question, is there a simple way to see what other Govee devices are actually compatible with dreamview? Putting the G1 aside, even for the TV, which bulbs, strips, lamps, etc work with the immersion kit. TY
Not sure I agree with you regarding having the system show up in the app for the old system and saying it’s not compatible. It gives certainty, rather than the system not showing up and the user thinking that the reason it’s not showing up is because they’re doing something wrong. 💙🙃

I just have a
Gap at bottom which is blocked by my sound bar anyways.
You forgot that there are no sync boxes out there that can cope with HDMI 2.1, so can't be used with my Xbox or PlayStation 5
You can but it requires a splitter. You essentially split the signal so that one side goes to the sync box and one goes directly to the tv. Not ideal at all but can be done!
Where did you get that test pattern to test the lights?
32" maximum is a dealbreaker, really a shame, such a great product. getting the P1 instead
Camera is definitely a deal breaker. Please don't hit me with a fish!
I do agree with Bezos this episode, there are not enough yachts, I wonder if there will ever be enough, I am on the edge of my seat every episode, I hope this series gets renewed for another season
What's the name of the video you're showing on your monitor to showcase the lights?
I CANT BELIEVE YOUR AT 200K!
TY
Can they just make a hdmi box version I don’t want a camera till then I can’t retire the Hyperion diy setup
🐟💥
would love to you attempt to put the tv version of the camera under the tv.
Would this work with a projector setup?...
When/if you do the TV system review can you see if you can get it to work with your projector set up?
I am extremely interested, however my monitor is a 49 inch ultrawide. Do they have plans on including something for that sort of set up?
Not sure I agree with you regarding having the system show up in the app for the old system and saying it’s not compatible. It gives certainty, rather than the system not showing up and the user thinking that the reason it’s not showing up is because they’re doing something wrong. 💙🙃
